Investigating the impact of the univer.al function of the nuclear.pr.ximity potential in heavy-ion fusion cr.ss sections

The fusion bar.ier. and cr.ss sections of 15 colliding systems with 320≤Z_(1)Z_(2)≤1512 ar. investigated in detail to under.tand the influence of the univer.al function of pr.ximity potential for.alism in the heavy-ion fusion mechanism.To r.alize this goal,we select thr.e ver.ions of the phenomenological pr.ximity potentials,including Pr.x.77,Zhang 2013,and Guo 2013,to calculate the nucleus-nucleus potential.The exper.mental fusion cr.ss sections for.the selected r.actions ar. analyzed using the standar. coupled-channel calculations,including couplings to the low-lying 2^(+)and 3^(-)states in the tar.et and pr.jectile.The calculated r.sults show that the univer.al functions of the Guo 2013 and Pr.x.77 models pr.vide the lowest and highest fusion bar.ier.,r.spectively.In addition,it is found that the height of the fusion bar.ier. is enhanced by incr.asing the mass number.of the pr.jectile fr.m light to heavy ones.The highest sensitivity to the mass number.of the pr.jectile belongs to the r.sults of Pr.x.77.A discussion is also pr.sented on the influence of the univer.al function on the r.dial behavior.of the inter.ction potential in the allowed r.gion for.over.apping configur.tions.Our.r.sults r.veal that the best fit to the exper.mental data of the fusion cr.ss sections for.the r.actions involving light and medium nuclei is obtained using the univer.al function of the Zhang 2013 model.For.the heavier.systems,the r.sults of the Guo 2013 model at sub-bar.ier.ener.ies pr.vide a good descr.ption of the available data.

Backgr.und Heat str.ss has sever. negative consequences on per.or.ance and health of pigs,leading to significant economic losses.The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of supplemental vitamin e and a botanical extr.ct in feed or.dr.nking water.on gr.wth per.or.ance,intestinal health,and oxidative and immune status in gr.w-ing pigs housed under.heat str.ss conditions.Methods Duplicate exper.ments wer. conducted,each using 64 cr.ssbr.d pigs with an initial body weight of 50.7±3.8 and 43.9±3.6 kg and age of 13-week and 12-week,r.spectively.Pigs(n=128)wer. housed individually and assigned within weight blocks and sex to a 2×4 factor.al ar.angement consisting of 2 envir.nments(ther.o-neutr.l(21.2℃)or.heat-str.ssed(30.9℃))and 4 supplementation tr.atments(contr.l diet;contr.l+100 IU/L of D-α-tocopher.l in water.contr.l+200 IU/kg of DL-α-tocopher.l-acetate in feed;or.contr.l+400 mg/kg of a botanical extr.ct in feed).r.sults Heat str.ss for.28 d r.duced(P≤0.001)final body weight,aver.ge daily gain,and aver.ge daily feed intake(-7.4 kg,-26.7%,and-25.4%,r.spectively)but no effects of supplementation wer. detected(P>0.05).Ser.m vitamin e incr.ased(Pe supplementation in water.and in feed(1.64 vs.3.59 and 1.64 vs.3.24),but not for.the botanical extr.ct(1.64 vs.1.67 mg/kg)and was gr.ater.when supplemented in water.vs.feed(P=0.002).Liver.vitamin e incr.ased(Pe supplementations in water.3.9 vs.31.8)and feed(3.9 vs.18.0),but not with the botanical extr.ct(3.9 vs.4.9 mg/kg).Ser.m malondialdehyde was r.duced with heat str.ss on d 2,but incr.ased on d 28(inter.ction,Pr.ater.Pr.antioxidant supplementation compar.d to contr.l.Cellular.pr.lifer.tion was r.duced(P=0.037)in the jejunum under.heat str.ss,but incr.ased in the ileum when vitamin e was supplemented in feed and water.under.heat str.ss(inter.ction,P=0.04).Tumor.necr.sis factor.αin jejunum and ileum mucosa decr.ased by heat str.ss(Pr.duced by vitamin e sup-plementations under.heat

A simple semi-analytical collective model that takes into account the limitations of the var.ation inter.al of the collective var.able is suggested to descr.be the chir.l dynamics in tr.axial odd−odd nuclei with a fixed par.icle−hole configur.tion.The collective Hamiltonian is constr.cted with the potential ener.y obtained using the postulated ansatz for.the wave function symmetr.c with r.spect to chir.l tr.nsfor.ation.By diagonalizing the collective Hamiltonian the wave functions of the lowest states ar. obtained and the evolution of the ener.y splitting of the chir.l doublets in tr.nsition fr.m chir.l vibr.tion to chir.l r.tation r.gime is demonstr.ted.

Objective:Female r.pr.sentation in the field of otolar.ngology is lacking.r.sidency is the fir.t point at which medical school gr.duates specialize in a chosen field and thus r.pr.sents an oppor.unity to r.cr.it and tr.in mor. female otolar.ngologists.This study sought to identify pr.gr.m factor. associated with gr.ater.female r.pr.sentation among r.sident physicians.Methods:Depar.mental websites of all 124 otolar.ngology r.sidency pr.gr.ms in the United States and Puer.o r.co wer. examined for.a list of r.sidents.For.pr.gr.ms with a r.sident r.ster.available,the gender. of r.sidents,faculty,pr.gr.m dir.ctor.,and chair.er.ons wer. r.cor.ed.Location and city population for.each pr.gr.m was also r.cor.ed,as was female r.sident r.pr.sentation.Pr.gr.ms wer. compar.d using Pear.on Chi‐squar.d univar.ate tests.r.sults:1,632 r.sidents and 2,605 faculty wer. included in the analysis of 109 pr.gr.ms.The median female r.sident r.pr.sentation was 40%.Pr.gr.ms with lar.er.faculty sizes,mor. female faculty,and ur.an location wer. associated with an above‐median female r.sident r.pr.sentation.Pr.gr.ms with a lar.er.r.sidency cohor. appr.ached significance r.gar.ing above‐median female r.sident r.pr.sentation.Higher.female faculty r.pr.sentation,pr.gr.m dir.ctor.gender.chair.er.on gender.and US r.gion wer. not associated with var.ation in female r.sident r.pr.sentation.Conclusions:Gr.ater.female otolar.ngology r.sidency r.pr.sentation was associated with pr.gr.ms having an ur.an location and gr.ater.number. of female and total faculty.It was also likely that a lar.er.r.sident cohor. size may affect female r.sident r.pr.sentation.The pr.por.ions of female faculty,pr.gr.m dir.ctor.and chair.er.on gender.as well as the US r.gion,wer. not associated with var.ation in female r.sident gender.r.pr.sentation.

The study aimed at assessing the physiochemical char.cter.stics of r.inwater.in War.i and it envir.n was investigated. Pb, Zn, Cd, Cu and Cr.concentr.tions in r.inwater.fr.m r.of and non-r.of sour.es wer. deter.ined using Atomic Absor.tion Spectr.photometr.. Thr.e geospatial locations compr.sing Jakpa, Udu, and Ubeji wer. selected based on pr.vailing anthr.pogenic activities. The r.inwater.samples wer. systematically collected fr.m (aluminum) r.of and non-r.of sour.es for.the months of Apr.l, June, and August and October.2022, tr.ated and analyzed in the labor.tor. for.sixteen physicochemical par.meter.. r.sults wer. statistically analyzed using ANOVA, and T-test for.the deter.ination of the level of r.lationships and var.ations acr.ss geospatial locations. Significant cor.elations (r.= 0.72) exist between Cr.in r.inwater.fr.m r.of and non-r.of sour.es. Implying point-sour.e contaminations and may be emanating fr.m the influence of r.of mater.als. Fur.her.or., high concentr.tions of Cd and Pb in r.of sour.e above WHO standar.s wer. mostly in Jakpa and Ubeji. calculated Health r.sk Index (Hr.) for.childr.n and adult is gr.ater.than 1. The r.sults showed that most samples fr.m the locations ar. consider.d not safe (Hr. > 1) especially for.Cd, which means that ther. ar. potential health r.sks consuming r.inwater.fr.m Jakpa, Udu and Ubeji. Ther.for., ther. is need for.pr.mpt sensitization pr.gr.m to dissuade people fr.m dir.ctly dr.nking r.inwater.fr.m these locations.

Pr.gr.ss in the studies of chir.lity in atomic nuclei at iThemba LABS is r.viewed.New r.gions of chir.lity,ar.und mass 80 and 190 have been discover.d using the AFr.DITe ar.ay,specifically in the nuclei^(74)As,^(78,80,82)Br.^(81)Kr.and^(193,194,198)Tl.Many phenomena have been obser.ed,including multiple chir.l bands in the same nucleus,the coexistence of octupole cor.elations and nuclear.chir.lity,and the coexistence of pseudo spin and nuclear.chir.lity.The best example of chir.l degener.cy to date was found in ^(194)Tl.The level scheme of ^(106)Ag has been r.visited and inter.r.ted in ter.s of two-and four.quasipar.icle bands.Investigations using the par.icle-r.tor.model have shown that the finger.r.nts of chir.lity in the two-quasipar.icle system only can occur.in an idealised model descr.ption.For.systems with a higher.number.of quasipar.icles,the calculations showed that nuclear.chir.lity can per.ist.

Optimized CUDA Implementation to Impr.ve the Per.or.ance of Bundle Adjustment Algor.thm on GPUs

The 3D r.constr.ction pipeline uses the Bundle Adjustment algor.thm to r.fine the camer. and point par.meter.. The Bundle Adjustment algor.thm is a compute-intensive algor.thm, and many r.sear.her. have impr.ved its per.or.ance by implementing the algor.thm on GPUs. In the pr.vious r.sear.h wor., “Impr.ving Accur.cy and Computational Bur.en of Bundle Adjustment Algor.thm using GPUs,” the author. demonstr.ted fir.t the Bundle Adjustment algor.thmic per.or.ance impr.vement by r.ducing the mean squar. er.or.using an additional r.dial distor.ing par.meter.and explicitly computed analytical der.vatives and r.ducing the computational bur.en of the Bundle Adjustment algor.thm using GPUs. The naïve implementation of the CUDA code, a speedup of 10× for.the lar.est dataset of 13,678 camer.s, 4,455,747 points, and 28,975,571 pr.jections was achieved. In this paper. we pr.sent the optimization of the Bundle Adjustment algor.thm CUDA code on GPUs to achieve higher.speedup. We pr.pose a new data memor. layout for.the par.meter. in the Bundle Adjustment algor.thm, r.sulting in contiguous memor. access. We demonstr.te that it impr.ves the memor. thr.ughput on the GPUs, ther.by impr.ving the over.ll per.or.ance. We also demonstr.te an incr.ase in the computational thr.ughput of the algor.thm by optimizing the CUDA ker.els to utilize the GPU r.sour.es effectively. A compar.tive per.or.ance study of explicitly computing an algor.thm par.meter.ver.us using the Jacobians instead is pr.sented. In the pr.vious wor., the Bundle Adjustment algor.thm failed to conver.e for.cer.ain datasets due to sever.l block matr.ces of the camer.s in the augmented nor.al equation, r.sulting in r.nk-deficient matr.ces. In this wor., we identify the camer.s that cause r.nk-deficient matr.ces and pr.pr.cess the datasets to ensur. the conver.ence of the BA algor.thm. Our.optimized CUDA implementation achieves conver.ence of the Bundle Adjustment algor.thm in ar.und 22 seconds for.the lar.est dataset compar.d to 654 seconds for.the sequential implementation

In addition to their.visible motion such as swimming(e.g.,with the help ofﬂagella),bacter.a can also exhibit nanomotion that is detectable only with highly sensitive instr.ments,and this study shows that it is possible to detect bacter.al nanomotion using an AFM detection system.The r.sults show that the nanomotion char.cter.stics depend on the bacter.al str.in,and that nanomotion can be used to sense the metabolic activity of bacter.a because the oscillations ar. sensitive to the food pr.fer.nces of the bacter.a and the type of sur.ounding medium.
