Occurrence and Distribution of Antifouling Biocide Diuron along the Coastal Areas of Zanzibar Island

Diuron (N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N,N-dimethylurea) is one among the booster biocides substituted tributyltin as an antifouling agent. It has continued to be used ever since, though little is known about their levels in the maritime setting of Zanzibar. This paper details the occurrence and distribution of diuron around the coastline of Zanzibar Island. The reported concentrations of diuron in water ranged from Below Detection Limit to 1321.67 ± 52.3 ng/L at Bwawani. Majority of the sites showed levels above Environmental risk Limit of 430 ng/L as proposed by the Dutch Authorities. The findings suggest the contamination is elevated especial in Harbor, Bwawani, Chapwani and even at Marine Protected Areas such Mnemba Island where the value of 620.33 ± 5.70 ng/L was recorded. The main possible sources of the contamination are cargo shipping, passenger speedboats, fishing, and tourism activities taking places in these areas. Therefore, future studies on the antifouling biocide diuron particularly on long term monitoring, chronic exposure, risk assessment, organisms’ responses and pollution models will add special value towards better understanding of the mechanisms and sustainable marine ecosystem health.

The valorization of Amazonian wood residues into active chemical compounds could be an eco-friendly,cost-effective and valuable way to develop wood preservative formulations to enhance the decay and termite resistance of low-durable wood ***(Vouacapoua americana.,Fabaceae)is a well-known Guianese wood spe-cies commonly used in local wood construction due to its outstanding natural durability,which results from the presence of a large panel of extractives *** addition,its industrial processing generates large amounts of *** residues were extracted by maceration using four different solvents(water/ethanol,ethyl acetate,hexane and dichloromethane/methanol),separately and *** yield of each extractive fraction was determined,and their chemical compositions were analyzed by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(LC-MS).Ethyl acetate led to the highest extraction yield,and the active compounds were identiﬁed in the obtained extractive *** this sense,the fungicidal and termite-repellent properties of these extractives were then tested using a screening laboratory(with temperate and tropical microorganisms),according to the solution concentration(1%,2.5%,5%,8%and 10%).Finally,Virola michelii Heckel wood samples(low durable species)were impregnated with the 8%concentration *** impregnated wood samples were then exposed to a soil bed *** results highlighted that the nature of the solvent used during wood maceration affects the con-tent of the obtained extractive ***-Performance Liquid Chromatography–High-resolution Mass Spectrometry(UHPLC-HrMS)analyses showed the inﬂuence of extraction parameters on the nature of the extracted *** extracts(from ethyl acetate maceration)showed good anti-fungal and anti-termite ***,the concentration in extractives had an impact on the anti-termite activity level for reti-culitermesﬂavipes and Cryptotermes *** based on W

A thrust for looking multifunctional materials for applications in civil engineering structures has attracted interest among researchers across the *** based Ba0.85Ca0.15Zr0.1Ti0.88Sn0.02O3(***)composites were prepared for electrocaloric applications with varying *** to cement *** loops showed some signature of saturation in cement ***,loops of pure sample were saturated due to its ferroelectric ***,these composites were explored for the first time in solid state refrigeration technology namely electrocaloric effect(ECE).Peak electrocaloric performance shows an adiabatic temperature changes of 0.71,0.64 and 0.50 K and isothermal entropy changes of 0.86,0.80 and 0.65 J/(kg.K)for ***,10%and 15%cement composites,respectively,under application of 0-29 kV/cm electric *** adiabatic temperature change in cement based composites is comparable with that of the BCZT-Sn ferroelectric ***,the dielectric constant(εr)of composites with different ceramic contents at room temperature reveals that dielectric constant increases with an increase in BCZT-Sn proportion in *** cement based *** composite materials may be used in solid state refrigeration as they are fairly competitive with the pristine sample.

Phase change materials have a key role for wearable thermal management,but suffer from poor water vapor permeability,low enthalpy value and weak shape stability caused by liquid phase leakage and intrinsic rigidity of solid–liquid phase change ***,we report for the first time a versatile strategy for designed assembly of high-enthalpy flexible phase change nonwovens(GB-PCN)by wet-spinning hybrid grapheneboron nitride(GB)fiber and subsequent impregnating paraffins(e.g.,eicosane,octadecane).As a result,our GB-PCN exhibited an unprecedented enthalpy value of 206.0 J g^(−1),excellent thermal reliability and anti-leakage capacity,superb thermal cycling ability of 97.6%after 1000 cycles,and ultrahigh water vapor permeability(close to the cotton),outperforming the reported PCM films and fibers to ***,the wearable thermal management systems based on GB-PCN for both clothing and face mask were demonstrated,which can maintain the human body at a comfortable temperature range for a significantly long ***,our results demonstrate huge potential of GB-PCN for human-wearable passive thermal management in real scenarios.

The benefits of regular physical activity are well ***,few studies have examined the effectiveness of integrating physical activity(PA)into curricula within a post-secondary *** investigate the incorporation of PA into medical curriculum,we developed a series of optional exercise-based review sessions designed to reinforce musculoskeletal(MSK)anatomy course *** synchronous sessions were co-taught by a group fitness instructor and an anatomy *** fitness instructor would lead students through both strength and yoga style exercises,while the anatomy instructor asked questions about relevant anatomical structures related to course material previously *** the sessions,participants were asked to evaluate the classes on their self-reported exam preparedness in improving MSK anatomy knowledge,PA levels,and mental *** participants completed surveys;a majority agreed that the classes increased understanding of MSK concepts(90.0%)and activity levels(97.7%).Many(70.0%)felt that the classes helped reduce *** majority of respondents(90.0%)agreed that the classes contributed to increased feelings of social ***,medical students saw benefit in PA based interventions to supplement MSK course *** with increasing activity levels and promoting health behaviours,integrating PA into medical curriculum may improve comprehension of learning material,alleviate stress and foster social connectivity among medical students.

Bleeding Meckel’s in Pregnancy: A rare Cause of a rare Phenomenon

Meckel’s diverticulum complicating pregnancy is indeed a rare occurrence. The anatomical and physiological changes that occur in pregnancy make the clinical presentation and preoperative diagnosis of an acute abdomen extremely difficult. Even imaging modalities have to be used with caution keeping in mind the risks associated for both mother and fetus. Treatment of such cases must be prompt and accurate with a high index of suspicion in order to prevent high rate of maternal and fetal morbidity. We report one such case of bleeding of Meckel’s diverticulum. The most common cause of bleeding in a Meckel’s is ectopic gastric mucosa. When we performed an exploratory laparotomy we found to our surprise a bleeding Meckel’s diverticulum. Further investigations revealed a very interesting histopathological report of endometriosis as the cause of bleed.
