The mismatch between the photovoltaic(PV)cells absorption and the solar irradiance on earth is one of the major limitations towards more efficient PV energy *** aspect was addressed by downshifting the solar irradiance on Earth through luminescent down-shifting layers based on lanthanidedoped surface-functionalized ionosilicas(ISs)embedded in poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA)coated on the surface of commercial Si-based PV *** IS-PMMA hybrid materials exhibit efficient solar radiation harvesting(spectral overlap of^9.5×10^19 photons/(s·m2))and conversion(quantum yield^52%).The direct solar radiation and the down-shifted radiation are partially guided and lost through total internal reflection to the layer edges being unavailable for PV conversion of the coated PV *** tuning the down-shifting layer thickness,it also acts as luminescent solar concentrator enabling the collection of the guided radiation by flexible PV cells applied on the borders of the down-shifting layer leading to an enhancement of the PV energy conversion from^5%(in the case of the single-use of the luminescent down-shifting layer)to^13%comparing with the bare PV *** overall electrical output of the device resulted in an absolute external quantum efficiency increase of^32%for the optimized Eu^3+-based films in the UV spectral region(compared with the bare PV device,which is among the best values reported so far).

The synthesis and properties of carbon xerogels are briefly described in this mini-review, emphasizing the methods used for tuning their surface chemistry and textural properties in order to design efficient electrocatalysts for fuel cells. In particular, the role played by the surface functional groups in determining the loading, dispersion, oxidation state and stability of the metal phases is addressed.

Total porosity （TP）, determined by image analysis, pore type and pore size distribution were evaluated on impregnated soil blocks from an undisturbed Brazilian sandy loam soil using a digital portable optical microscope. The free software Image J （version 1.40g） was used for image analysis. Procedures for soil image collection and analysis were presented. The image analysis allowed the evaluation of pore sizes with diameters ranging from 20 to 〉 1 000 μm. The following types of pores were also obtained： rounded, elongated and intermediate. The results M[owed the characterization of the soil as moderately porous （TP = 21.6%）. rounded, intermediate and elongated pores were responsible for 11.6%, 31.7% and 56.7% of TP. In relation to pore size 51.1% of TP was in the 100-500μm size class and a third of TP came from the pores larger than 500μm.

BACKGrOUND The individual performances and the complementarity of Crohn's disease(CD)activity index(CDAI), C-reactive protein(CrP) and faecal calprotectin(fcal) to monitor patients with CD remain poorly inves-tigated in the era of "tight control"and "treat to target" *** To assess CDAI, CrP and fcal variation, alone or combined, after 12 wk(W12) of anti-tumor necrosis factor(TNf) therapy to predict corticosteroids-free remission(CfrEM = CDAI rP fcal rapeutic intensification and no surgery) at *** CD adult patients needing anti-TNf therapy with CDAI > 150 and either CrP >2.9 mg/L or fcal > 250 μg/g were prospectively *** Among the 40 included patients, 13 patients(32.5%) achieved CfrEM at W52. In univariable analysis, CDAI rP level fcal improvement at W12(fcal r, for patients with initial fcal rease of fcal or normalization of fcal(re predictive of CfrEM at W52. Combined endpoint(CDAI rP ≤ 2.9 mg/L and fCal improvement) at W12 was the best predictor of CfrEM at W52 with positive predictive value = 100.0%(100.0-100.0)and negative predictive value = 87.1%(75.3-98.9). In multivariable analysis, fcal improvement at W12 [odd ratio(Or) = 45.1(2.96-687.9); P = 0.03] was a better predictor of CfrEM at W52 than CDAI r = 9.3(0.36-237.1); P = 0.145]and CrP ring of CDAI, CrP and fcal after anti-TNf induction therapy is able to predict favorable outcome within one year in patients with CD.

The recovery of lithium from hard rock minerals has received increased attention given the high demand for this element. There- fore, this study optimized an innovative process, which does not require a high-temperature calcination step, for lithium extraction from le- pidolite. Mechanical activation and acid digestion were suggested as crucial process parameters, and experimental design and re- sponse-surface methodology were applied to model and optimize the proposed lithium extraction process. The promoting effect of amorphi- zation and the formation of lithium sulfate hydrate on lithium extraction yield were assessed. Several factor combinations led to extraction yields that exceeded 90%, indicating that the proposed process is an effective approach for lithium recovery.

Background: An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feed restriction(fr) and sex on the quantitative and qualitative carcass traits of Morada Nova lambs. Thirty-five animals with an initial body weight of 14.5 ± 0.89 kg and age of 120 d were used in a completely randomized study with a 3 × 3 factorial scheme consisting of three sexes(11 entire males, 12 castrated males and 12 females) and three levels of feeding(ad libitum – AL and 30% and 60% fr).results: Entire males presented greater hot and cold carcass weights(P followed by castrated males and females. However, the hot carcass yield was higher for females and castrated males than for entire males. Luminosity values were influenced(P re males presenting higher values than castrated males and *** showed higher(P rations of linoleic acid and arachidonic acid in the meat of the longissimus thoracis muscle. The meat of animals submitted to AL intake and 30% fr showed similar(P > 0.05) concentrations, and the concentrations of palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and conjugated linoleic acid were higher(P f animals with 60% fr. The meat of females had a higher ω6/ω3 ratio and lower h/H ratio, and females had greater levels of feeding. The meat of animals on the 60% fr diet had a greater ω6/ω3 ratio, lower h/H ratio and lower concentration of desirable fatty acids in addition to a greater atherogenicity index(AI) and thrombogenicity index(TI).Conclusion: Lambs of different sexes had carcasses with different quantitative traits without total influence on the chemical and physical meat characteristics. The lipid profile of the meat was less favorable to consumer health when the animals were female or submitted to 60% feed restriction.
