Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Bacteria Isolated from Patients of Urinary Tract Infections in Iraq

Objectives: The main objective of this study was to investigate the bacterial infections of urinary tract in patients with urolithiasis. The patients were referred to and/or visiting the Urology Department in Tikrit Teaching Hospital in Tikrit city. methods: The present study was carried out from November 2011 until July 2012. One hundred and sixty patients with urolithiasis were included in the present study whose ages ranged from 12 to 70 years. male to female ratio was almost 2:1. The control group consisted of two groups;group one consisted of 40 persons (20 males and 20 females) who were selected randomly from Tikrit city during the period of this study and they had no previous personal nor family history of urolithiasis, while group two consist of 40 persons (20 males and 20 females) infected with urinary tract infection. Urine culture was done for all the patients and the control group. Results: Forty five percent (45/160) of these had UTI’s. Six patients revealed mixed bacterial growth. Eighty-four percent (38/45) of patients with UTI were infected with gram negative organisms where as only 16% (7/45) of patients were infected with gram positive organisms. The majority of the gram negative bacteria isolated belonged to the family Enterobacteriaceae particularly E. coli as it was isolated from 14 (31%) cases. The urease producing bacteria were isolated from 31 cases (50%). Conclusions: UTI’s in urolithiasis was more frequent in females than males and the percentages were 28/45 and 17/45 respectively. The most effective antimicrobial agent was amikacin and the least effective one was ampicillin, whereas ciprofloxacin, cefoxitin, levofloxacin, nitrofurantoin, nalidixic acid, chloramphenicol, amoxycillin and gentamicin were effective at different levels.

Helical Computed Tomography in Evaluation of Selected Cases of Acute Abdomen

Acute abdomen is a common presentation in emergency medicine. It represents 5% to 10% of all Emergency Department (ED) visits. Diagnosis by imaging includes digital X-ray unit, sonography (US) unit and computed tomography (CT) equipment. During the last years, a trend towards increased use of computed tomography in patients with acute abdomen can be seen. Additionally, patient with severe claustrophobic often cannot tolerate mR scanner. The aim of the present study was to investigate the possibility of optimizing Helical CT parameters in the protocol and emphasize the CT features of selected cases of disorders related acute abdominal complain at the Emergency Department both in general and in a number of selected conditions (Urolithiasis, Aortic Aneurysm Rupture and acute cholecystitis). According to this work findings, non-contrast CT after ultrasound is diagnostic modality for patients with urinary stones in the Emergency Department. Contrast-enhanced CT was highly sensitive for acute aortic syndrome and therefore the CT imaging protocols must be adjusted in order to minimize dose from radiation.

Tracing of Sertoli-Cell-Only Syndrome and Other Histopathological Abnormalities in Iraqi males with Primary Infertility of Azoospermia

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the histopathological examination of the testicular biopsies in infertile males with azoospermia. The patients were referred to the Urology Department in Salah Alden Hospital. methods: The present study was carried out from may 2017 until June 2018 and the number of the patients group was 60. The patients aged between 20 to 50 years. 20 of them were selected and subjected to histopathological examinations by taking biopsies from their testes. Results: The sertoli-cell-only syndrome (SCOS) was the most common positive histopathological finding comprising 35% of the cases. This was followed by testicular atrophy with 30%, while maturation arrest was 20%. The percentage of hypospermatogenesis was 10% and normal spermatogenesis was 5%. Conclusion: Among the 20 specimens examined, the sertoli-cell-only syndrome (SCOS) was the most common positive histopathological finding. The semen analysis and testicular biopsy provide valuable information about the etiology and the fertility potential of an individual.

Tracing of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Isolated from Semen of Iraqi males with Primary Infertility

Objectives: The main objective of this study was to investigate the bacterial infections of seminal fluid in males with primary infertility. The patients were referred to and/or visiting the Urology Department in Salah Al-Deen Teaching Hospital. methods: The present study was carried out from may 2017 to June 2018 and the number of the patients group was 60. The patients aged between 20 to 50 years. Semen was collected from infertile men of a couple that female failed to become pregnant after one year of regular and unprotected intercourse of marriage and submitted for seminal fluid analysis for the bacteriological analyses. The control group consisted of 50 fertile male who were selected randomly from Tikrit City during the period of this study. Semen culture was done for all the patients and the control group. Results: There were 30 patients who suffered from bacteriospermia and 16 of them (53.3%) were infected with gram positive organisms, while only 14 (46.7%) patients were infected with gram negative organisms. The most common organism was Staphylococcus aureus which was isolated from bacteriospermia. Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, S. saprophyticus, Proteus mirabilis and Niesseria gonorrhoae were also isolated and the frequencies of isolation were 23.3% (7), 13.3% (4), 10.0% (3), 10.0% (3), 6.6% (2), and 6.6% (2) respectively. The present study showed many antibiotics were not active against gram positive bacteria isolated e.g. the resistance frequenciy to rifampcin, vancomycin and clindamycin was 48%, 44% and 40% respectively. Conclusions: The gram positive organisms were more prevalent than gram negative organisms in patients with bacteriospermia and the isolationfrequencies of two groups were 16 (53.3%) and 14 (46.7%) respectively. The most effective antimicrobial agents were amikacin, ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin and the least effective one was ceftazidime, whereas moxifloxacin, norfloxacin, gentamicin, azithromycin, moxif

Geochemistry of Termite Hills as a Tool for Geochemical Exploration of Glass Sand in the Iraqi Western Desert

Sand glass deposits was located in the mid of the Western Desert of Iraq. It is situated within Rutba Formation (Ceno-manian). Ancient traditional mining method is still used in exploitation the unconsolidated white glass sand from glass sand quarry. The overburden thickness ranges from 2 to 4 m in average. Termite hills were observed around the glass sand quarry extending far from the quarry area. Termites could burrows down and penetrate the sand glass bringing it up to the surface. The depth of penetration reaches more than 35 m. The field observation of the white color of termite hills which are built up by sand glass gave a good indicator for the hidden subsurface deposit and it appears to be a surface signature for finding glass sand directly under the termite hills. The scattered white hills of glass sand on the surface with high content of SiO2, concordant Zr/Hf and Th/U ratios and heavy mineral distribution in both of quarry and termite hills provide a strong evidence of that those termite hills could be an effective tool for exploring subsurface hidden glass sand up to 35 m depth.

The synthesis of boronic-imine structured compounds and identification of their anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities

Boronic acid compounds with different substituted groups were handled to synthesize various ligands encoded as B1, B2, B3, B4, BS, B6, B7 and BS. B5 and B7 were tested for the cytotoxic activity against the prostate cancer cells and it was found that the cell viability of cancer cells was decreased while most of the healthy cells could still be viable. 5 μm solutions of B5 and B7 decreased the cell viability to 33% and 44%; whereas healthy cells were 71% and 95%, respectively, after treatment. Antimicrobial properties were explored against the bacterial and fungal microorganisms with B1, B5 and BZ The inhibition zones were evaluated for all boronic structures, and the growth inhibition zones were determined in a range of 7-13 mm diameter for different microorganism species. Staphylococcus aureus was the common micro- organism that three boronic compounds with imine ligands showed the activity. Antioxidant features of B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7 and B8 were investigated by different processes such as Beta-carotene bleaching （BCB）, 2,2-diphenyl picryl hydrazyl （DPPH）, 2,2″-azino-bis（ 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid）（ABTS） and CUPric reducing antioxidant capacity （CLIPRAC） methods. Significant antioxidant activity was achieved by the phenyl boronic based ligands and these compounds demonstrated as much activity as standards （α-Toc and BHT）. In addition, all structures were applied properly without any decomposition during the experiments. They were rather stable both in aqueous media and solid state.

The Effect of Urea Treatment on the Chemical Composition and Rumen Degradability of Sorghum Stover

The objectives of the study were to investigate the effects of different levels of urea treatments on chemical composition, nutritional value and rumen degradability of sorghum stover. Two groups of animals were used in this experiment. The first group, which served as control, was offered untreated sorghum stover. The other, the experiment group recived sorghum stover to which was added 2%, or 4% urea. Crude protein (CP) content of the treated sorghum was enhanced (P m 92.5% (control) to 89.8% and 87.8% for 2% and 4% urea respectively. Ether extract (EE) content was decreased (P m 1.77% (control) to 1.63% and 0.82% for 2% and 4% respectively. The rumen degradability was increased (P m 59.2% (control) to 64.2%, and 67.2% for 2%, and 4% sorghum and in hours 0, 4, 8, 16, 24, 48, 72 and 96.

Influence of metal Ions on Hydrogen Production by Photosynthetic Bacteria Grown in Escherichia coli Pre-Fermented Cheese Whey

The photosynthetic bacteria, Rodospirillum rubrum, produced hydrogen when grown in cheese whey in presence of light. The production increased three times as much when whey was used after being incubated in presence of Escherichia coli at 37℃ for 5 days, giving a total of 3600 ml of H2 in 10 days. The presence of Fe ions (5 mg/L) enhanced H2 production of treated whey to about 6000 ml in 10 days. mo ions (0.3 and 1.6 mg/l) did not affect achieved H2 production of treated whey. However, when Fe and mo ions were present together, the production was comparable with that of mo ions alone, i.e. mo prevented Fe of producing any enhancing effect. The addition of mn ions (7.68 mg/L) to treated whey containing Fe (5 mg/L) and mo ions (8 mg/L) increased H2 production to give about 9500 ml/10 days.

Geologists interpret seismic data to understand subsurface properties and subsequently to locate underground hydrocarbon *** are among the most important geological features interpreters analyze to locate petroleum ***,manual channel picking is both time consuming and ***,similar to any other process dependent on human intervention,manual channel picking is error prone and *** address these issues,automatic channel detection is both necessary and important for efficient and accurate seismic *** systems make use of real-time image processing techniques for different *** channel detection is a combination of different mathematical methods in digital image processing that can identify streaks within the images called channels that are important to the oil *** this paper,we propose an innovative automatic channel detection algorithm based on machine learning *** new algorithm can identify channels in seismic data/images fully automatically and tremendously increases the efficiency and accuracy of the interpretation *** algorithm uses deep neural network to train the classifier with both the channel and non-channel *** provide a field data example to demonstrate the performance of the new *** training phase gave a maximum accuracy of 84.6%for the classifier and it performed even better in the testing phase,giving a maximum accuracy of 90%.

The effect of hollow fiber module positions (horizontal and vertical) on separation performance for PVA solution by using polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membrane with the molecular weight cut-off (mWCO) 30 000 has been discussed. Experimental results illustrated that the suitable operation conditions for PVA solution were as follows: trans-membrane pressure 2.1 bar, solution temperature 75 °C and feed velocity 0.32 m/s. Under these suitable operation conditions, the permeate flux is from 36.8 L/(m2·h·bar) to 42.9 L/(m2·h·bar) for the horizontal module and from 39.8 L/(m2·h·bar) to 66.6 L/(m2·h·bar) for the vertical module. Besides, the separation performance of PES hollow fiber UF membrane was better by using vertical hollow fiber module than by using horizontal hollow fiber module. When the trans-membrane pressure increased from 1 bar to 2.1 bar, solution temperature from 50 °C to 75 °C, feed solution velocity from 0.16 m/s to 0.32 m/s, the PVA rejection would increase from 95.8% to 99.7%, 95.4% to 98.6%, 95.8% to 99.2% for horizontal module respectively, and from 98.8% to 99.8%, 98.6% to 99.4%, 98.5% to 99.4% for vertical module respectively. Therefore, PVA rejection in PES hollow fiber UF process was more than 98.5% for vertical module, and it is suitable for PVA recovery from wastewater.
