Thermal-force control ability under variation of electromagnetic stick structure parameters in RPECT

Thermal-force driving of roll profile electromagnetic control technology(RPECT),which can be used to adjust the roll profile,can be affected by the sequential temperature rise between the electromagnetic stick(ES)and electromagnetic control roll.Due to the limited space of ES and induction coil,the cross-sectional area of induction coil can be inevitably affected by changing the size of the ES induction zone,which can further change the energy input under the same electromagnetic parameters,the temperature rising effect and the bulging ability.To investigate this phenomenon,the effects of the radius of the induction zone on the thermal-force contribution ratio,the heating ability of ES and the temperature distribution were analyzed through an electromagnetic-thermal-structural finite element model.To ensure that the results are applicable to RPECT,the thermal energy conversion ability and thermal-force roll crown control ability under different lengths of the induction zone were analyzed.It was found that whether the current density regulation mode or the current frequency regulation mode is adopted,the cases with 20 or 25 mm radius of the induction zone have the great thermal energy conversion ability and the good thermal-force roll crown control ability.The reasonable adjustment of the length of the induction zone can reduce the radius required for the maximum energy efficiency regulation.Combined with the results of the simulation analysis,the optimization of ES based on the control ability maximization requirement is achieved,which provides the base for the design and configuration of ES in RPECT.

Numerical simulation of transient characteristics in a bulb turbine during the load rejection process

To evaluate the safety of the bulb tubular turbine,the dynamic hydraulic characteristics of a hydropower station system during the load rejection process are studied through numerical simulations and a prototype test.In the developed model,a dynamic grid technology(DGT)controls the closure of the guide vane and the blade,whilst the moment balance equation and the user-defined function(UDF)provide the runner’s rotation speed.The 3-D transient simulation method can well predict the rotation speed and mass flow curves in the state of load rejection.The simulation outcomes of the system performance are basically consistent with the measurement data of the prototype.As observed,the runner is subjected to the reversely increased torque and axial force,the system is in a braking phase,and the maximum speed peaks at 144.6%of the rated speed.Moreover,the internal flow of the runner is greatly affected by the closure of the guide vane,and the draft tube forms an eccentric spiral vortex rope.It breaks downstream,aggravating the instability of the draft tube.Overall,the transient characteristics span for the first five seconds,demonstrating the importance of establishing an efficient governing controller.The obtained results are useful for designing the turbine’s flow channel with a double regulating function and comprehending the turbine’s transient characteristics.

Molecular investigation into the transformation of recalcitrant dissolved organic sulfur in refinery sour water during stripping process

Refinery sour water primarily originates from the tops of towers in various units and coker condensate,and cannot be discharged directly to a wastewater treatment plant due to high levels of chemical oxygen demand(COD) and organic sulfur contents. Even after the recovery of H2S from the sour water by the stripping process, the effluent still contains a high concentration of dissolved organic sulfur(DOS), which can have a huge bad influence. While chemical composition of dissolved organic matter(DOM) in refinery wastewater has been extensively studied, the investigation of recalcitrant DOS from sour waters remains unclear. In the present study, chemical composition of sour water DOMs(especially DOS) was investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy(excitation-emission matrix, EEM) and mass spectrometry,including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) and high-resolution Orbitrap MS. The GC-MS and EEM results showed that volatile and low-aromaticity compounds were effectively removed during the stripping process, while compounds with high hydrophilicity and humification degree were found to be more recalcitrant. The Orbitrap MS results showed that weak-polar oxygenated sulfur compounds were easier to be removed than oxygenated compounds. However, the effluent still contained significant amounts of sulfur-containing compounds with multiple sulfur atoms, particularly in the form of highly unsaturated and aromatic compounds. The Orbitrap MS/MS results of CHOS-containing compounds from the effluent indicate that the sulfur atoms may exist as sulfonates, disulfide bonds, thioethers. Understanding the composition and structure of sour water DOS is crucial for the development of effective treatment processes that can target polysulfide compounds and minimize their impact on the environment.

Urea-induced interfacial engineering enabling highly reversible aqueous zinc-ion battery

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries（AZIBs） have been regarded as prospective rechargeable energy storage devices because of the high theoretical capacity and low redox potential of Zn metal.However,the uncontrollable formation of dendrites and the water-induced side reactions at the Zn/electrolyte interface,and the poor reversibility under a high current density(> 2 mA·cm-2) and large area capacity(>2 mAh·cm-2) still limit the practical applications of AZIBs.Therefore,a strategy that can overcome these difficulties is urgently needed.here,we introduce an environmentally friendly and low-cost additive,namely urea,to the electrolyte of AZIBs to induce uniform Zn deposition and suppress the side reactions.Measurements of the adsorption behavior,electrochemical characterization,and observations of the morphology revealed the interfacial modification induced by urea on the Zn/electrolyte interface,demonstrating its huge potential in AZIBs.Consequently,the long-term cycling stability（over2100 h） of a Zn/Zn symmetric cell under a high current density of 5 mA·cm-2and a capacity of 5 mAh·cm-2was achieved with a 1 mol·L-1ZnSO4electrolyte with the urea additive.Additionally,the assembled Zn/NH4V4O10full cell with urea exhibited excellent cycling performance and an outstanding average Coulombic efficiency of 99.98%.These results indicate that this is a low-cost and effective additive strategy for realizing highly reversible AZIBs.

Microorganisms play an essential role in the glacier carbon cycle;how they transform organic matter in mountain glacial cryoconite remains to be studied.here,we applied ultra-high resolution Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry(FT-ICR MS)and deep sequencing of 16S rRNA gene,to investigate the temporal microbial transformation of dissolved organic matter(DOM)of the Tibetan Plateau cryoconite.During the 60-day incubation,we found that DOM in cryoconite underwent a three-stage transformation,with decreasing bioavailability over time.The microbial community did not change much in the first week while degrading DOM molecules that were associated with higher H/C_(wa)and lower O/C_(wa).During days 15-30,DOM composition remained stable while microbial diversity increased.By day 60,the DOM was microbially converted into a higher state of recalcitrance,with higher values of aromatic index,O/C_(wa),and lower H/C_(wa),which contained molecules containing more heteroatoms.Cooperation among various microbial taxa,like Cyanobacteria,Bacteroidota,Gammaproteobacteria,Firmicutes,and Actinobacteriota,drove the DOM transformation in cryoconite.This study sheds light on the in-situ transformation of DOM composition meditated by microbial populations in cryoconite at a temporal scale,providing new insights into understanding the microbial roles in the glacier organic carbon transformation.

Effect of post rolling stress on phase transformation behavior of microalloyed dual phase steel

The slow phase transformation of microalloyed dual phase steel makes the nonuniform stress and temperature fields during the post rolling cooling process have a significant impact on the phase transformation process.Given the relatively slow phase transformation of DP780 steel within the microalloyed dual phase steel series,the influence of stress on the phase transformation behavior of DP780 steel was investigated.To quantify the nonuniform thermal and stress conditions in the steel coil,a thermo-mechanical coupled finite element model of the hot-rolled strip cooling process was established.Based on the simulation data,DP780 steel was chosen as the research material,and Gleeble 3500 thermal simulation equipment was used for experimental validation.The thermal expansion curves were analyzed through regression to establish the dynamic model of DP780 steel phase transformation under stress.Subsequently,metallographic analysis was conducted to determine phase transformation type and grain size of DP780 steel.The results confirmed that the stress promotes the occurrence of semi-diffusion-type bainite transformation.Furthermore,an appropriate level of stress facilitates the growth of bainitic grains,while the increased stress inhibits the growth of ferritic grains.

Progress in modeling and control of probe-and-drogue autonomous aerial refueling

By refueling aircraft while they are in flight,aerial refueling is an efficient technique to extend their endurance and range.Autonomous Aerial Refueling(AAR)is anticipated to be used to complete aerial refueling for unmanned aircraft.There are three aerial refueling methods:the Probe-and-Drogue Refueling(PDR)refueling method,the flying-boom refueling method,and the boom-drogue-adapter refueling method.The paper considers the PDR approach,the most challenging of the three,because the flexible hose-drogue assembly has fast dynamics and is susceptible to various kinds of winds,which makes the probe docking with the drogue difficult.PDR is divided into four phases,namely the rendezvous phase,joining phase,refueling phase,and reform phase,with the refueling phase being the most crucial.The controller design faces the greatest challenge during the docking control of the refueling phase since it calls for a high level of safety,precision,and efficiency.As a result,the modeling and control issues encountered during the refueling phase are typical and difficult.The fundamental idea of AAR is presented in the paper first,after which the characteristics and requirements of AAR are outlined.The progress in modeling and control techniques for the AAR’s refueling phase is then systematically reviewed.Finally,potential future work for high safety,precision,and efficiency requirements is examined and suggested.

A pH/ROS dual-responsive system for effective chemoimmunotherapy against melanoma via remodeling tumor immune microenvironment

Chemotherapeutics can induce immunogenic cell death(ICD)in tumor cells,offering new possibilities for cancer therapy.However,the efficiency of the immune response generated is insufficient due to the inhibitory nature of the tumor microenvironment(TME).here,we developed a pH/reactive oxygen species(ROS)dual-response system to enhance chemoimmunotherapy for melanoma.The system productively accumulated in tumors by specific binding of phenylboronic acid(PBA)to sialic acids(SA).The nanoparticles(NPs)rapidly swelled and released quercetin(QUE)and doxorubicin(DOX)upon the stimulation of tumor microenvironment(TME).The in vitro and in vivo results consistently demonstrated that the NPs improved anti-tumor efficacy and prolonged survival of mice,significantly enhancing the effects of the combination.Our study revealed DOX was an ICD inducer,stimulating immune responses and promoting maturation of dendritic cells(DCs).Additionally,QUE served as a TME regulator by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2(COX2)-prostaglandin E2(PGE2)axis,which influenced various immune cells,including increasing cytotoxic T cells(CLTs)infiltration,promoting M1 macrophage polarization,and reducing regulatory T cells(Tregs)infiltration.The combination synergistically facilitated chemoimmunotherapy efficacy by remodeling the immunosuppressive microenvironment.This work presents a promising strategy to increase anti-tumor efficiency of chemotherapeutic agents.

Application and management of continuous glucose monitoring in diabetic kidney disease

Diabetic kidney disease(DKD)is a common complication of diabetes mellitus that contributes to the risk of end-stage kidney disease(ESKD).Wide glycemic var-iations,such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia,are broadly found in diabetic patients with DKD and especially ESKD,as a result of impaired renal metabolism.It is essential to monitor glycemia for effective management of DKD.hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)has long been considered as the gold standard for monitoring glycemia for>3 months.However,assessment of HbA1c has some bias as it is susceptible to factors such as anemia and liver or kidney dysfunction.Continuous glucose monitoring(CGM)has provided new insights on glycemic assessment and management.CGM directly measures glucose level in interstitial fluid,reports real-time or retrospective glucose concentration,and provides multiple glycemic metrics.It avoids the pitfalls of HbA1c in some contexts,and may serve as a precise alternative to estimation of mean glucose and glycemic variability.Emerging studies have demonstrated the merits of CGM for precise monitoring,which allows fine-tuning of glycemic management in diabetic patients.Therefore,CGM technology has the potential for better glycemic monitoring in DKD patients.More research is needed to explore its application and management in different stages of DKD,including hemodialysis,peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation.
