Mesoporous MCM-41 and Fe loaded MCM-41（Fe/MCM-41）,which were successfully prepared by a hydrothermal method and a dipping method respectively,were applied as heterogeneous catalysts for ozonation of p-chlorobenzoic acid（p-CBA） in aqueous ***-41 and Fe/MCM-41 were characterized by XRD,FT-IR and diffuse reflectance UV-vis（DR-UV-vis） techniques. The presence of either MCM-41 or Fe/MCM-41 improves p-CBA and total organic carbon（TOC） removal efficiency compared to ozonation *** the experimental condition,TOC removal rate of Fe/MCM-41/O_3 process is over 63.5%at 60 min oxidation time,44.5%using MCM-41 as catalyst,only 37.7%with ozonation *** presence of tert-butanol（TBA） in the Fe/MCM-41/ O_3 process indicated that the oxidation mechanism of p-CBA occurs via OH in the liquid *** Fe/MCM-41 is a promising catalyst.

AIM： To explore the concrete mechanism of a Mongolian compound medicine-Gurigumu-13 （GRGM） for glaucoma treatment. METHODS： DBA/2J mice, as glaucoma models, were intragastric administrated with GRGM to study the effect of GRGM on retinal ganglion cells （RGCs）. The loss of RGCs was evaluated with the number of RGCs and axons. The expression of the target protein of RGCs or mouse retinas was determined by Western blot. The relative content of malondialdehyde （MDA） was examined by EliSA assay. RESULTS： GRGM distinctly improved retina damage via increasing the number of neurons, RGCs and axons in a concentration dependent manner. Meanwhile, GRGM obviously decreased the high level of MDA and the expression of oxidative stress-related proteins in retinas of DBAJ2J mice, but promoted the expression of antioxidant proteins. Additionally, GRGM also significantly inhibited the protein expression of Bip and Chop, which were markers of endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis. CONCLUSION： GRGM have obvious protective effects on RGCs in DBA/2J mice, and increase the number of RGCs and axons via inhibiting oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress.

LRRC4 is a novel relatively specific gene,which displays significant down-regulation inprimary brain tumor biopsies and has the potential to suppress brain tumor *** this study,we inves-tigated the growth inhibitory effect of LRRC4 on tumorigencity in vivo and on cell proliferation in vitro by atetracycline-inducible expression *** showed that LRRC4 significantly reduced the growth andmalignant grade of xenografts arising from glioblastoma U251MG *** proliferation was markedlyinhibited after U251MG Tet-on-LRRC4 cell induction with *** cytometry and Western blotanalysis demonstrated that LRRC4 mediated a delay of the cell cycle in late G1,possibly through up-regulat-ing the expressions of p21Wafl/cip 1 and p27Kip 1 and down-regulating the expressions of cyclin-dependentkinase 2,retinoblastoma protein and epidermal growth factor ***,these findings provideclues to the function of LRRC4 as a negative regulator of cell growth and underscore a link between theabove-mentioned cyclins,cyclin-associated molecules and tumorigenicity.

Characteristics of myocardial postsystolic shortening in patients with coronary artery disease assessed by strain rate imaging

Background Postsystolic shortening （PSS） has been proposed as a marker of myocardial dysfunction. Strain rate imaging （SRI） is a novel ultrasonic technique, allowing reliable and noninvasive measurement of myocardial deformation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of myocardial longitudinal PSS by SRI in ischemic and infarct myocardium in patients with coronary artery disease, and to explore its clinical applicability. Methods Eleven patients with angina pectoris, 21 patients with myocardial infarction and 20 healthy subjects were included in the study. Apical four-, three- and two-chamber views were displayed; and septal, lateral, anteroseptal, posterior, anterior and inferior walls of the left ventricle were scanned, respectively. PSS strain （εpss）, the ratio of εpss and systolic strain （εpss/εsys）, the ratio of εpss and maximum strain （εpss/εmax） and the duration of PSS （Tpss） in ischemic, infarct and normal myocardium were analyzed. Results PSS was found more frequent in the ischemic and infarct segments compared with the normal segments （39% vs 22% and 56% vs 22%, respectively; both P〈0.01）. It was even more frequent in the infarct segments than in the ischemic segments （56% vs 39%, P〈0.01 ）. The absolute magnitude of εpss, εpss/εsys, εpss/εmax were significantly larger and mpss significantly longer in the ischemic and infarct segments compared with that in the normal myocardium （P〈0.01）. εpss/εsys, εpss/εmax were even larger and Tpss even longer in the infarct than in the ischemic segments （P〈0.01）. Conclusions PSS is a common and important feature of the ischemic and infarct myocardium. εpss, εpss/εsys, εpss/εmax and mpss as measured by SRI may be promising markers for the quantitative assessment of regional myocardial dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease. εpss/εsys, εpss/εmax and mpss may be helpful in differentiating infarct from ischemic myocardium.

AIM: To detect the expression of soluble TRAIL (TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand, TRAIL) in the peripheral blood of HBV infected patients and try to elucidate whether the expression level of sTRAIL have any correlativity with the clinical staging, the expression level of HBV markers and the degree of liver ***: 52 cases of HBV infected patients were investigated, induding 8 HBV carriers, 30 chronic hepatitis B, 11 drrhotics and 3 HBV infection related hepatocellular carcinoma. Expression of soluble TRAIL and markers of the hepatitis B were mearsured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***: The expression level of sTRAIL in the peripheral blood of the HBV infected patients was significantly higher than that of healthy controls (1378.35±540.23 pg/ml vs 613.75±175.80 pg/ml, P＜0.001). In the group of chronic hepatitis, the expression level of sTRAIL was coincident with the status of the disease and was significantly correlated with the level of ALT. In the group of cirrhosis and liver cancer, its expression level was significantly higher than that of the healthy persons and HBV carriers, but lower than that of the hepatitis B patients; meanwhile, the expression of siRAIL did not have any correlativity with the functional indexes of the liver. CONCLUSION: The soluble TRAIL in the HBV infected people may participate in the liver damage. Our results indicated that the expression level of soluble TRAIL may reflect the ravage of liver caused by host immune reaction to a certain degree.

Silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs)have attracted attention in the field of biomaterials due to their excellent antibacterial ***,the reducing and stabilizing agents used for the chemical reduction of Ag NPs are usually toxic and may cause water *** this work,Ag NPs(31.2 nm in diameter)were prepared using the extract of straw,an agricultural waste,as the reducing and stabilizing *** analysis revealed that the straw extract contained lignin,the structure of which possesses phenolic hydroxyl and methoxy groups that facilitate the reduction of silver salts into Ag *** surfaces of Ag NPs were negatively charged due to the encapsulation of a thin layer of lignin molecules that prevented their *** the prepared Ag NPs were added to the precursor solution of acrylamide,free radical polymerization was triggered without the need for extra heating or light irradiation,resulting in the rapid formation of an Ag NP-polyacrylamide composite *** inhibition zone test proved that the composite hydrogel possessed excellent antibacterial ability due to the presence of Ag *** prepared hydrogel may have potential applications in the fabrication of biomedical materials,such as antibacterial dressings.

Background Sterol regulatory element binding protein （SREBP）-2 plays a key role in lipid homeostasis by stimulating gene expression of cholesterol biosynthetic pathways. The insulin-like growth factor binding protein （IGFBP） family regulates growth and metabolism, especially bone cell metabolism, and correlates with osteonecrosis. However, association of their gene polymorphisms with risk of avascular necrosis of the femoral head （ANFH） has rarely been reported. We determined whether SREBP-2 and IGFBP-3 gene polymorphisms were associated with increased ANFH risk in the Chinese population. Methods Two single nucleotide polymorphisms of SREBP2 gene, rs2267439 and rs2267443, and one of IGFBP-3 gene, rs2453839, were selected and genotyped in 49 ANFH patients and 42 control individuals by direct sequencing assay. Results The frequencies of rs2267439 TT and rs2267443 GA of SREBP2 and rs2453839 TT and CT of IGFBP-3 in the ANFH group showed increased and decreased tendencies （against normal control group）, respectively. Interaction analysis of genes revealed that the frequency of carrying rs2267439 TT and rs2267443 GA genotypes of SREBF-2 in ANFH patients was significantly higher than in the control group （P 〈0.05）. Association analysis between polymorphisms and clinical phenotype demonstrated that the disease course in ANFH patients with the rs2453839 TT genotype of IGFBP-3 was significantly shorter than that of CT＋CC carriers （P 〈0.01）. CT＋CC genotype frequency in patients with stage Ill/IV bilateral hip lesions was significantly higher than in those with stage Ill/IV unilateral lesions and stage II/111 bilateral lesions （P 〈0.05-0.02）. Conclusions Our results suggested that interaction of SREBP-2 gene polymorphisms and the relationship between the polymorphisms and clinical phenotype of IGFBP-3 were closely related to increased ANFH risk in the Chinese population. The depression mechanism of sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite in the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite still lacked in-depth ***,the depression mechanism of sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite in the flotation separation of galena from sphalerite was further systematically investigated with experiments and density functional theory(DFT)*** X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy(XPS)results,DFT calculation results,and frontier molecular orbital analysis indicated that sulfite ions were difficult to be adsorbed on sphalerite surface,suggesting that sulfite ions achieved depression effects on sphalerite through other non-adsorption ***,the oxygen content in the surface of sphalerite treated with sulfite ions in creased,which enhanced the hydrophilicity of the sphalerite and further increased the difference in hydrophilicity between sphalerite and ***,sulfite ions were chelated with lead ions to form PbSO_(3)in *** hydrophilic PbSO_(3)was more easily adsorbed on sphalerite than *** interaction between sulfite ions and lead ions could effectively inhibit the activation of *** addition the UV spectrum showed that after adding sulfite ions,the peak of perxanthate in the sphalerite treated xanthate solution was significantly stronger than that in the galena with xanthate solution,indicating that xanthate interacted more readily with sulfite ions and oxygen mo lecules within the sphalerite system,leading to the formation of ***,sulfite ions hardly depressed the flotation of ga lena and could promote the flotation of galena to some *** study deepened the understanding of the depression mechanism o sulfite ions on sphalerite and Pb^(2+)activated sphalerite.
