Thickening progression mechanism of silica fume-oil well cement composite system at high temperatures

This work studied the thickening progression mechanism of the silica fume-oil well cement composite system at high temperatures(110-180.C) in order to provide a theoretical guidance for the rational application of silica fume in the cementing engineering. Results showed that silica fume seldom affected the thickening progression of oil well cement slurry at 110-120.C, but when temperature reached above130.C, it would aggravate the bulging degree of thickening curves and significantly extend the thickening time, meanwhile causing the abnormal “temperature-based thickening time reversal” and“dosage-based thickening time reversal” phenomena in the range of 130-160.C and 170-180.C respectively. At 130-160.C, the thickening time of oil well cement slurry was mainly associated with the generation rate of calcium hydroxide(CH) crystal. The introduced silica fume would be attracted to the cement minerals' surface that were hydrating to produce CH and agglomerate together to form an“adsorptive barrier” to hinder further hydration of the inner cement minerals. This “adsorptive barrier”effect strengthened with the rising temperature which extended the thickening time and caused the occurrence of the “temperature-based thickening time reversal” phenomenon. At 170-180.C, the pozzolanic activity of silica fume significantly enhanced and considerable amount of C-S-H was generated, thus the “temperature-based thickening time reversal” vanished and the “dosage-based thickening time reversal” was presented.

Prediction of vertical PM2.5 concentrations alongside an elevated expressway by using the neural network hybrid model and generalized additive model

A study on vertical variation of PM2.5 concentrations was carried out in this paper. Field measurements were conducted at eight different floor heights outside a building alongside a typical elevated expressway in downtown Shanghai, China. Results show that PM2.5 concentration decreases significantly with the increase of height from the 3rd to 7th floor or the 8th to 15th floor, and increases suddenly from the 7th to 8th floor which is the same height as the elevated expressway. A non-parametric test indicates that the data of PM2.5 concentration is statistically different under the 7th floor and above the 8th floor at the 5% significance level. To investigate the relationships between PM2.5 concentration and influencing factors, the Pearson correlation analysis was performed and the results indicate that both traffic and meteorological factors have crucial impacts on the variation of PM2.5 concentration, but there is a rather large variation in correlation coefficients under the 7th floor and above the 8th floor. Furthermore, the back propagation neural network based on principal component analysis （PCA-BPNN）, as well as generalized additive model （GAM）, was applied to predict the vertical PM2.5 concentration and examined with the field measurement dataset. Experimental results indicated that both models can obtain accurate predictions, while PCA-BPNN model provides more reliable and accurate predictions as it can reduce the complexity and eliminate data co-linearity. These findings reveal the vertical distribution of PM2.5 concentration and the potential of the proposed model to be applicable to predict the vertical trends of air pollution in similar situations.

Investigation of the spatiotemporal variation and influencing factors on fine particulate matter and carbon monoxide concentrations near a road intersection

The minute-scale variations of fine particulate matter （PM2.5） and carbon monoxide （CO） concentrations near a road intersection in Shanghai, China were investigated to identify the influencing factors at three traffic periods. Measurement results demonstrate a synchronous variation of pollutant concentrations at the roadside and setbacks, and the average concentration of PM2.5 at the roadside is 7% （44% for CO） higher than that ofsethacks within 500 m of the intersection. The pollution level at traffic peak periods is found to be higher than that of off-peak periods, and the morning peak period is found to be the most polluted due to a large amount of diesel vehicles and unfavorable dispersion conditions. Partial least square regressions were constructed for influencing factors and setback pollutant concentrations, and results indicate that meteorological factors are the most significant, followed by setback distance from the intersection and traffic factors. CO is found to be sensitive to distance from the traffic source and vehicle type, and highly dependent on local traffic conditions, whereas PM2.5 originates more from other sources and background levels. These findings demonstrate the importance of localized factors in understanding spatiotemporal patterns of air pollution at intersections, and support decision makers in roadside pollution management and control.

The Triassic granitoids in Central Tianshan play a key role in determining the petrogenesis and tectonic evolution on the southern margin of the Central Asian orogenic *** this study,we present SHRIMP zircon U-Pb ages,Hf isotopic and geochemical data on the Xingxingxia biotite granite,amazonite granite and granitic pegmatite in Central Tianshan,NW *** U-Pb dating yielded formation ages of 242 Ma for the biotite granite and 240 Ma for the amazonite *** granitoid rocks have high K_(2)O with low MgO and CaO *** are enriched in Nb,Ta,Hf and Y,while being depleted in Ba and Sr,showing flat HREE patterns and negative Eu *** have typical A-type granite geochemical signatures with high Ga/A_(1)(8–13)and TFeO/(TFeO+MgO)ratios,showing an A_(2) affinity for biotite granite and an A_(1) affinity for amazonite granite and granitic *** ε_(Hf)(t)values of the granitoids are 0.45–2.66,with Hf model ages of 0.99–1.17 *** suggests that these A-type granites originated from partial melting of the lower *** propose that Xingxingxia Triassic A-type granites formed under lithospheric extension from post-orogenic to anorogenic intraplate settings and NE-trending regional strike-slip fault-controlled magma emplacement in the upper crust.

Ion and electron motions in the outer electron diffusion region of collisionless magnetic reconnection

Two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations are performed to study the coupling between ion and electron motions in collisionless magnetic *** electron diffusion region(EDR),where the electron motions are demagnetized,is found to have a two-layer structure:an inner EDR near the reconnection site and an outer EDR that is elongated to nearly 10 ion inertial lengths in the outflow *** the inner EDR,the speed of the electron outflow increases when the electrons move away from the X *** the outer EDR,the speed of the electron outflow first increases and then decreases until the electrons reach the boundary of the outer *** the boundary of the outer EDR,the magnetic field piles up and forms a depolarization *** the perspective of the fluid,a force analysis on the formation of electron and ion outflows has also been *** the X line,the electrons are accelerated by the reconnection electric field in the out-of-plane *** the electrons move away from the X line,we find that the Lorentz force converts the direction of the accelerated electrons to the x direction,forming an electron *** electric field forces and electron gradient forces tend to drag the electron *** acceleration along the x direction is caused by the Lorentz force,whereas the pressure gradient force tends to decelerate the ion *** these two terms are important,their effects on ions are almost *** Hall electric field force does positive work on ions and is not *** ions are continuously accelerated,and the ion and electron outflow velocities are almost the same near the depolarization front.

A toroidal SAW gyroscope with focused IDTs for sensitivity enhancement

A surface acoustic wave(SAW)gyroscope measures the rate of rotational angular velocity by exploiting a phenomenon known as the SAW gyroscope *** a gyroscope is a great candidate for application in harsh environments because of the simplification of the suspension vibration mechanism necessary for traditional microelectromechanical system(MEMS)***,for the first time,we propose a novel toroidal standing-wave-mode SAW gyroscope using focused interdigitated transducers(FIDTs).Unlike traditional SAW gyroscopes that use linear IDTs to generate surface acoustic waves,which cause beam deflection and result in energy dissipation,this study uses FIDTs to concentrate the SAW energy based on structural features,resulting in better focusing performance and increased SAW *** experimental results reveal that the sensitivity of the structure is 1.51µV/(°/s),and the bias instability is 0.77°/s,which are improved by an order of magnitude compared to those of a traditional SAW ***,the FIDT component can enhance the performance of the SAW gyroscope,demonstrating its superiority for angular velocity *** work provides new insights into improving the sensitivity and performance of SAW gyroscopes.

The increasingly frequent and severe regional-scale compound heatwave-drought extreme events(CHDEs),driven by global warming,present formidable challenges to ecosystems,residential livelihoods,and economic ***,uncertainty persists regarding the future trend of CHDEs and their insights into regional spatiotemporal *** integrating daily meteorological data from observations in 1961-2022 and global climate models(GCMs)based on the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways,the evolution patterns of CHDEs were compared and examined among three sub-catchments of the Yangtze River Basin,and the return periods of CHDE in 2050s and 210Os were *** findings indicate that the climate during the 2022 CHDE period was the warmest and driest recorded in 1961-2022,with precipitation less than 154.5 mm and a mean daily maximum temperature 3.4°C higher than the average of 1981-2010,whereas the char-acteristics in the sub-catchments exhibited temporal and spatial *** July-August 2022,the most notable feature of CHDE was its extremeness since 1961,with return periods of~200-year in upstream,80-year in midstream,and 40-year in downstream,*** 2050,the return periods witnessed 2022 CHDE would likely be reduced by *** towards 2100,under the highest emission scenario of SSP585,it was projected to substantially increase the frequency of CHDEs,with return periods reduced to one-third in the upstream and downstream,as well as halved in the *** findings provide valuable insights into the changing risks associated with forthcoming climate extremes,emphasizing the urgency of addressing these challenges in regional management and sustainable development.
