Effect of nursing on postoperative respiratory function and mental health of lung cancer patients

BACKGROUND Both pulmonary rehabilitation training and psychological care have been shown to have a positive effect on the postoperative recovery of patients with lung cancer.However,few studies have combined the two to explore their combined effect.Therefore,this study aimed to investigate the effects of pulmonary rehabil-itation training combined with psychological care on postoperative respiratory function and mental health in lung cancer patients.AIM To investigate effect of nursing on postoperative respiratory function and mental health of lung cancer patients.METHODS 122 cases of lung cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment in our hospital and were treated in our department from January 2022 to April 2023 were selected and randomly divided into the control group and observation group.The control group performed the routine care intervention.The obser-vation group was given pulmonary rehabilitation training and psychological care based on conventional nursing interventions.Forced expiratory volume,forced vital capacity.Maximum ventilatory volume(MVV)in one second was measured,and the patient's 6-min walking distance and dyspnoea index scale were used to assess the patient's respiratory condition.The Connor-Davidson resilience scale(CD-RISC),self-rating anxiety scale(SAS),and self-rating depression scale(SDS)were used to evaluate the mental health of the patients.RESULTS There was no difference between the two groups regarding age,gender,education level,surgical procedure,type of pathology,and treatment(P>0.05).After treatment,MVV,6-min walking distance,toughness,strength,optimism,and total CD-RISC scores were significantly higher in the observation group(P<0.05),dyspnoea scores,SAS,and SDS scores were substantially lower in the control group compared to the observation group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Pulmonary rehabilitation training combined with psychological care for patients after lung cancer resection could improve lung function,enhance daily activities,effectively relieve negative emotions such as anx

Effect of biochar application on rice,wheat,and corn seedlings in hydroponic culture

In recent years,biochar has attracted considerable attention for soil quality improvement and carbon sequestration due to its unique physicochemical properties.However,the mechanism by which biochar application negatively affects the growth of crop seedlings has not been fully investigated.In this study,a hydroponic experiment was conducted to evaluate the response of rice,wheat,and corn seedlings to biochar application(CK,0 g/L;BC1,0.5 g/L;and BC2,1.0 g/L).Compared with the CK treatment,the BC1 and BC2 treatments decreased the fresh shoot and root weights of rice and corn seedlings(P0.05).For the contents of nutrient elements in seedlings,both BC1 and BC2 treatments hindered the roots from absorbing Fe and Cu and increased the uptake of Ca and Mn.Compared with the CK treatment,the translocation factor(TF)values of Ca,Mn,and Zn were significantly decreased especially in rice seedlings(35.3%-36.8%,68.7%-76.5%,and 29.8%-22.0%,respectively)under the BC1 and BC2 treatments,while only Mn was significantly decreased in wheat and corn seedlings(P<0.05).Transmission electron microscope(TEM)analysis of root cross-sections showed that nano-sized biochar particles(10~23 nm)were found in the root cells under BC2 treatment conditions.Our findings reveal that a large amount of biochar application can reduce nutrient absorption and translocation,and hinder rice,wheat,and corn seedlings,particularly rice seedling,in hydroponic system.

Background The reproductive performance of chickens mainly depends on the development of follicles.Abnor-mal follicle development can lead to decreased reproductive performance and even ovarian disease among chick-ens.Chicken is the only non-human animal with a high incidence of spontaneous ovarian cancer.In recent years,the involvement of circRNAs in follicle development and atresia regulation has been confirmed.Results In the present study,we used healthy and atretic chicken follicles for circRNA RNC-seq.The results showed differential expression of circRALGPS2.It was then confirmed that circRALGPS2 can translate into a protein,named cir-cRALGPS2-212aa,which has IRES activity.Next,we found that circRALGPS2-212aa promotes apoptosis and autophagy in chicken granulosa cells by forming a complex with PARP1 and HMGB1.Conclusions Our results revealed that circRALGPS2 can regulate chicken granulosa cell apoptosis and autophagy through the circRALGPS2-212aa/PARP1/HMGB1 axis.

BACKGROUND Morgagni hernias are rare anomalies that are easily misdiagnosed or missed.AIM To summarize the ultrasound(US)imaging characteristics of Morgagni hernias through a comparison of imaging and surgical results.METHODS The records of children with Morgagni hernias who were hospitalized at two hospitals between January 2013 and November 2023 were retrospectively re-viewed in terms of clinical findings,US features,and operative details.RESULTS Between 2013 and 2023,we observed nine(five male and four female)children with Morgagni hernias.Upper abdominal scanning revealed a widening of the prehepatic space,with an abnormal channel extending from the xiphoid process to the right or left side of the thoracic cavity.The channel had intestinal duct and intestinal gas echoes.Hernia contents were found in the transverse colon(n=6),the colon and small intestine(n=2),and the colon and stomach(n=1).Among the patients,seven had a right-sided lesion,two had a left-sided lesion,and all of them had hernial sacs.CONCLUSION US imaging can accurately determine the location,extent,and content of Morgagni hernias.For suspected Mor-gagni hernias,we recommend performing sonographic screening first.

Citrus is the typical mycorrhizal fruit tree species establishing symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. However, arbuscule development and senescence in colonized citrus roots, especially in response to drought stress, remain unclear, which is mainly due to the difficulty in clearing and staining lignified roots with the conventional method. Here, we improved the observation of colonized roots of citrus plants with the sectioning method, which enabled the clear observation of AM fungal structures. Furthermore, we investigated the effects of one week of drought stress on arbuscule development and senescence with the sectioning method. Microscopy observations indicated that drought stress significantly decreased mycorrhizal colonization (F%and M%) although it did not affect plant growth performance. Fluorescence probes (WGA 488 and/or Nile red) revealed that drought stress inhibited arbuscule development by increasing the percentage of arbuscules at the early stage and decreasing the percentages of arbuscules at the midterm and mature stages. Meanwhile, drought stress accelerated arbuscule senescence, which was characterized by the increased accumulation of neutral lipids. Overall, the sectioning method developed in this study enables the in-depth investigation of arbuscule status, and drought stress can inhibit arbuscule development but accelerate arbuscule senescence in the colonized roots of citrus plants. This study paves the way to elaborately dissecting the arbuscule dynamics in the roots of fruit tree species in response to diverse abiotic stresses.

Occurrence and risk assessment of azole fungicides during the urban water cycle:A year-long study along the Yangtze River,China

Azole fungicides(AFs)play an important role in the prevention and treatment of fungal diseases in agricultural crops.However,limited studies are addressing the fate and ecological risk of AFs in the urban water cycle at a large watershed scale.To address this gap,we investigated the spatiotemporal distribution and ecological risk of twenty AFs in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River across four seasons.Carbendazim(CBA),tebuconazole(TBA),tricyclazole(TCA),and propiconazole(PPA)were found to be the dominant compounds.Their highest concentrations were measured in January(188.3 ng/L),and November(2197.1 ng/L),July(162.0 ng/L),and November(1801.9 ng/L),respectively.The comparison between wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs)effluents and surface water suggested that industrial WWTPs are major sources of AFs in the Yangtze River.In particular,TBA and PPA were found to be the most recalcitrant AFs in industrial WWTPs,while difenoconazole(DFA)was found to be the most potent pollutant in municipal WWTPs,with an average removal rate of less than60%.The average risk quotient(RQ)for the entire AFs was 6.45 in the fall,which was higher than in January(0.98),April(0.61),and July(0.40).This indicates that AFs in surface water posed higher environmental risks during the dry season.Additionally,the exposure risk of AFs via drinking water for sensitive populations deserves more attention.This study provides benchmark data on the occurrence of AFs in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River,and offers suggestions for better reduction of AFs.

Unresolved Excess Accumulation of Myelin-Derived Cholesterol Contributes to Scar Formation after Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury triggers complex pathological cascades,resulting in destructive tissue damage and incomplete tissue repair.Scar formation is generally considered a barrier for regeneration in the central nervous system.However,the intrinsic mechanism of scar formation after spinal cord injury has not been fully elucidated.Here,we report that excess cholesterol accumulates in phagocytes and is inefficiently removed from spinal cord lesions in young adult mice.Interestingly,we observed that excessive cholesterol also accumulates in injured peripheral nerves but is subsequently removed by reverse cholesteroltransport.Meanwhile,preventing reverse cholesterol transport leads to macrophage accumulation and fibrosis in injured peripheral nerves.Furthermore,the neonatal mouse spinal cord lesions are devoid of myelin-derived lipids and can heal without excess cholesterol accumulation.We found that transplantation of myelin into neonatal lesions disrupts healing with excessive cholesterol accumulation,persistent macrophage activation,and fibrosis.Myelin internalization suppresses macrophage apoptosis mediated by CD5L expression,indicating that myelin-derived cholesterol plays a critical role in impaired wound healing.Taken together,our data suggest that the central nervous system lacks an efficient approach for cholesterol clearance,resulting in excessive accumulation of myelin-derived cholesterol,thereby inducing scar formation after injury.

Quasi-two-dimensional(2D)Ruddlesden‒Popper(RP)halide perovskites,as a kind of emerged two-dimensional layered materials,have recently achieved great attentions in lasing materials field owing to their large exciton binding energy,high emission yield,large optical gain,and wide-range tuning of optical bandgap.This review will introduce research progresses of RP halide perovskites for lasing applications in aspects of materials,photophysics,and devices with emphasis on emission and lasing properties tailored by the molecular composition and interface.The materials,structures and fabrications are introduced in the first part.Next,the optical transitions and amplified spontaneous emission properties are discussed from the aspects of electronic structure,exciton,gain dynamics,and interface tailoring.Then,the research progresses on lasing devices are summarized and several types of lasers including VCSEL,DFB lasers,microlasers,random lasers,plasmonic lasers,and polariton lasers are discussed.At last,the challenges and perspectives would be provided.

Prediction of temperature field in machined workpiece surface during the cutting of Inconel 718 coated with surface-active media

The heat generated and accumulated on the machined surface of an Inconel 718 workpiece causes thermal damage during the cutting process.Surface-active media with high thermal conductivity coated on the workpiece to be machined may have the potential to reduce the generation of cutting heat.In this study,a theoretical model for predicting the instantaneous machined surface temperature field is proposed for surface-active thermal conductive medium(SACM)-assisted cutting based on the finite element and Fourier heat transfer theories.Orthogonal cutting experiments were performed to verify the results predicted using the proposed surface-temperature field model.Three SACMs with various thermal conductivities were used to coat Inconel 718 surface to be machined.Thermocouples embedded into the workpiece were used to measure the cutting temperature at different points on the machined workpiece surface during the cutting process.The experimental results were in agreement with the predicted temperatures,and the maximum error between the experimental results and predicted temperatures was approximately 9.5%.The cutting temperature on the machined surface decreased with an increase in the thermal conductivity of the SACM.The graphene SACM with high thermal conductivity can effectively reduce the temperature from 542℃ to 402℃,which corresponds to a reduction of approximately 26%.The temperature reduction due to SACM decreases with an increase in the distance between the temperature prediction point and machined workpiece surface.In conclusion,the cutting temperatures on the machined workpiece surface can be reduced by coating with SACM.

Molecular surface functionalization of In_(2)O_(3) to tune interfacial microenvironment for enhanced catalytic performance of CO_(2) electroreduction

Indium-based materials(e.g.,In_(2)O_(3))are a class of promising non-noble metal-based catalysts for electroreduction of carbon dioxide(CO_(2)).However,competitive hydrogen reduction reaction(HER)on indium-based catalysts hampers CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)process.We herein tune the interfacial microenvironment of In_(2)O_(3) through chemical graft of alkyl phosphoric acid molecules using a facile solution-processed strategy for the first time,which is distinguished from other researches that tailor intrinsic activity of In_(2)O_(3) themselves.The surface functionalization of alkyl phosphoric acids over In_(2)O_(3) is demonstrated to remarkably boost CO_(2) conversion.For example,octadecylphosphonic acid modified In_(2)O_(3) exhibits Faraday efficiency for H_(2) H_(2) H_(2)(FE)of as low as 6.6%and FEHCOOH of 86.5%at-0.67 V vs.RHE,which are far superior to parent In_(2)O_(3) counterparts(FE of 24.0%and FEHCOOH of 63.1%).Moreover,the enhancing effect of alkyl phosphoric acid functionalization is found to be closely related to the length of alkyl chains.By virtue of comprehensive experimental characterizations and molecular dynamics simulations,it is revealed that the modification of alkyl phosphoric acids significantly alters the interface microenvironment of the electrocatalyst,which changes the electrocatalyst surface from hydrophilic and aerophobic to hydrophobic and aerophilic.In this case,the water molecules are pushed away and more CO_(2) molecules are trapped,increasing local CO_(2) concentration at In_(2)O_(3) active sites,thus leading to the significantly enhanced CO_(2)RR and suppressed HER.This work highlights the importance of regulating the interfacial microenvironment of inorganic catalysts by molecular surface functionalization as a means for promoting the electrochemical performance in electrosynthesis and beyond.
