The occurrence characteristics of shale oil are of great significance to the movability of shale *** this study,the occurrence characteristics of oil in the shale matrix at Funing Formation shale in Subei Basin were quantitatively evaluated by organic geochemistry and microscopic pore structure characterization *** Multiple Isothermal Stages Pyrolysis(MIS)experiment results show that the content of total oil,adsorbed oil,and free oil in the shales are 3.15-11.25 mg/g,1.41-4.95 mg/g,and 1.74-6.51 mg/g,*** which the silicon-rich shale has the best *** relative content of free oil shows an increasing trend in pores with pore diameters greater than 3 *** the relative content of free oil reaches 100%,the pore size of silicon-rich shale is about 200 nm,while that of calcium-rich shale,clay-rich shale,and siliceous mixed shale is about 10 *** occurrence law of adsorbed oil is opposite to that of free oil,which indicates that shale oil will occur in the pores and fractures in a free state in a more extensive pore size range(>200 nm).This study also enables us to further understand the occurrence characteristics of shale oil under the interaction of occurrence state and occurrence space.

Thermal maturity evaluation using Raman spectroscopy for oil shale samples of USA:comparisons with vitrinite reflectance and pyrolysis methods

Thermal maturity is commonly assessed by various geochemical screening methods(e.g.,pyrolysis and organic petrology).In this contribution,we attempt to establish an alternative approach to estimating thermal maturity with Raman spectroscopy,using 24 North American oil shale samples with thermal maturity data generated by vitrinite reflectance(VRo%)and pyrolysis(Tmax)-based maturity calculation(VRe%).The representative shale samples are from the Haynesville(East Texas),Woodford(West Texas),Eagle Ford and Pearsall(South Texas)Formations,as well as Gothic,Mancos,and Niobrara Formation shales(all from Colorado).The Raman spectra of disordered carbonaceous matter(D1 and G bands separation)of these samples were directly obtained from the rock chips without prior sample *** the Gaussian and Lorentzian distribution approach,thermal maturities from VR were correlated with carbon G and *** found that the Raman band separation(RBS)displayed a better correlation for equivalent VRe%than vitrinite reflectance VRo%.The RBS(D1–G)distance versus total organic carbon,free hydrocarbons from thermal extraction(S1),and the remaining hydrocarbon generating potential(S2)indicate that the RBS(D1–G)distance is also related to kerogen *** presented here from three methods of maturity determination of shale demonstrate that Raman spectroscopy is a quick and valid approach to thermal maturity assessment.

Pore structure and tracer migration behavior of typical American and Chinese shales

With estimated shale gas resources greater than those of US and Canada combined, China has been embarking on an ambitious shale development program. However, nearly 30 years of American experience in shale hydrocarbon exploration and production indicates a low total recovery of shale gas at 12 %-30 % and tight oil at 5 %-10 %. One of the main barriers to sustainable devel- opment of shale resources, namely the pore structure （ge- ometry and connectivity） of the nanopores for storing and transporting hydrocarbons, is rarely investigated. In this study, we collected samples from a variety of leading hydrocarbon-producing shale formations in US and China. These formations have different ages and geologic char- acteristics （e.g., porosity, permeability, mineralogy, total organic content, and thermal maturation）. We studied their pore structure characteristics, imbibition and saturated diffusion, edge-accessible porosity, and wettability with four complementary tests： mercury intrusion porosimetry, fluid and tracer imbibition into initially dry shale, tracer diffusion into fluid-saturated shale, and high-pressure Wood＇s metal intrusion followed with imaging and ele- mental mapping. The imbibition and diffusion tests use tracer-bearing wettability fluids （API brine or n-decane） to examine the association of tracers with mineral or organic matter phases, using a sensitive and micro-scale elemental laser ablation ICP-MS mapping technique. For two molecular tracers in n-decane fluid with the estimated sizes of 1.39 nm x 0.29 nm x 0.18 nm for 1-iododecane and 1.27 nm ~ 0.92 nm ~ 0.78 nm for trichlorooxobis （triph- enylphosphine） rhenium, much less penetration was observed for larger molecules of organic rhenium in shales with median pore-throat sizes of several nanometers. This indicates the probable entanglement of sub-nano-sized molecules in shales with nano-sized pore-throats. Since the mechanisms of methane-mudstone interactions are important for estimating shale gas reserves,methane adsorption under supercritical conditions of 30 MPa pressure and 303.15,333.15,363.15 K temperatures was studied to measure the excess methane adsorption in two mudstone samples from Yanchang Formation,Ordos *** adsorption features inflection points where the amount of adsorbed gas changes from increasing to decreasing *** methods(fixed,slope,and freely fitted density)were applied to calculate the adsorbed-phase density(rad),which was then used to fit the measured excess *** criteria,the goodness-of-fit and whether the fitting can obtain reasonable absolute adsorption,were applied to determine the most accurate *** indicated that the supercritical Dubinin-Radushkevich(SDR)model with freely fitted rad was the most reasonable *** volume of adsorbed methane at 363.15 K is close to the micropore(d<2 nm)volume of the corresponding *** the actual geological conditions,the adsorbed gas should be predominantly stored in *** parameters reveal that the methane adsorption on mudstone is a physisorption process that is jointly controlled by the heterogeneity of,and interaction forces between the methane molecule and,the rock surface.

Fracture mechanism of inclusions in thick plate center under tensile loading

Segregation of solute atoms in the center of thick plates of the tempered steel can cause an inhomogeneous structural transformation and generate micron-sized inclusions,which leads to lamellar tearing of thick plate and decreases the plasticity and *** formation and fragmentation mechanisms of micron-sized inclusions,like MnS and(Nb,Ti)C,in the center of thick plates were investigated by using thermodynamic calculations,finite element simulations,and electron backscatter diffraction characterization *** results show that micron-sized inclusions nucleate and grow in the liquid phase,and under tensile loading,they exhibit three fragmentation *** local stress during the fragmentation of inclusions is lower than the critical fracture stress of adjacent grains,and phase boundaries can effectively impede crack propagation into the *** existence of a low proportion of high-angle grain boundaries(58.1%)and high Kernel average misorientation value(0.534°)in the segregation band promotes inclusions fragmentation and crack *** difference in crack initiation and propagation direction caused by the morphology of inclusions and physical properties,as well as different matrix arrest abilities,is the main reasons for the diversity of inclusion fragmentation.

In situ meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin ligand substitution in Hf-MOF for enhanced catalytic activity and stability in photoredox reactions

Though there are numerous intrinsic merits of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),low charge separation efficiency has imposed heavy restrictions on their photocatalytic ***,in situ porphyrin ligand substitution,as a strategy for improving the charge separation efficiency and increasing the amounts of active sites,has been designed and realized in a Hf-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid(BPDC)***,a size and geometry matched meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin(TCPP)ligand was selected and doped into Hf-BPDC MOF by forming coordinating bonds with Hf centers,forming dualligand Hf-BPDC-TCPP *** resultant Hf-BPDC-TCPP MOF showed significantly improved activity and chemical stability in the photocatalytic H_(2)generation(261μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1))and tetracycline(TC)degradation reactions(95.8%),which was 48 and 1.47 folds higher than that of the Hf-BPDC *** and electrochemical studies revealed that the introduction of porphyrin ligand could generate a stronger internal electric field for boosting the charge separation and transfer,increase the specific surface area for providing more active sites,and narrow the band gap to enhance the visible light *** in situ ligand substitution method provides a promising approach to build a tunable platform for constructing high-performance MOF photocatalysts.

Origin of carbonate minerals and impacts on reservoir quality of the Wufeng and Longmaxi Shale, Sichuan Basin

The Ordovician-Silurian Wufeng and Longmaxi Shale in the Sichuan Basin were studied to understand the genesis and diagenetic evolution of carbonate minerals and their effects on reservoir quality. The results of geochemical and petrological analyses show that calcite grains have a negative Ce anomaly indicating they formed in the oxidizing environment of seawater. The high carbonate mineral contents in the margin of basin indicate that calcite grains and cores of dolomite grains appear largely to be of detrital origin. The rhombic rims of dolomite grains and dolomite concretions with the δ^(13)C of –15.46‰ and the enrichment of middle rare earth elements were formed during the sulfate-driven anaerobic oxidation of methane. The calcite in radiolarian were related to the microbial sulfate reduction for the abundant anhedral pyrites and δ^(13)C value of –11.34‰. Calcite veins precipitated in the deep burial stage with homogenization temperature of the inclusions ranging from 146.70 ℃ to 182.90 ℃. The pores in shale are mainly organic matter pores with pore size mainly in the range of 1–20 nm in diameter. Carbonate minerals influence the development of pores through offering storage space for organic matter. When calcite contents ranging from 10% to 20%, calcite grains and cement as rigid framework can preserve primary pores. Subsequently, the thermal cracking of liquid petroleum in primary pores will form organic matter pores. The radiolarian were mostly partially filled with calcite, which combining with microcrystalline quartz preserved a high storage capacity.

Atomization characteristics of pyrolysis oil derived from waste tires

The atomization characteristics play a key role in the highly efficient combustion of pyrolysis oil derived from waste *** this study,the fuel properties of tire pyrolysis oil(TPO)were initially studied,and then a high-speed camera and a phase Doppler particle analyzer were employed to characterize the atomization feature of *** influence of pressure and nozzle orifice diameter on atomization characteristics such as spray angle,droplet velocity,and droplet size distribution was *** results showed that TPO had a high calorific value of about 43.6 MJ/kg and a low viscosity of 3.84×10^(–6)m^(2)/s at 40℃,which made it have the potential to be used as an alternative *** pressure expanded the spray angle and extended the spray in both the axial and radial *** increasing pressure,spray angle and droplet velocity raised,and the increase in crushing effect of air reduced the Sauter mean diameter(SMD)of the *** obtain proper atomization quality for combustion,the pressure is expected to be higher than 1.25 *** increasing nozzle orifice diameter,droplet velocity increased,and the SMD of the droplets increased as well due to weakened crushing effect of the ***,the pressure must be increased to maintain the atomization quality when using a nozzle with a larger *** to the lower viscosity,the velocity and particle size distribution of TPO droplets after atomization were smaller than those of diesel *** extremely small carbon black contained in TPO also contributed to the breaking of droplets and played a certain role in the size reduction of the oil droplets,but it may cause the risk of nozzle *** summary,TPO showed great atomization characteristics for alternative fuel applications.

Maternal weight and its association with risk of overweight in offspring:a trajectory analysis from a birth cohort in China

Background Most studies on the association of maternal pregnancy weight with offspring weight trajectory have a short follow-up *** study aimed to explore the associations of maternal prepregnancy body mass index(BMI)and gestational weight gain(GWG)with childhood weight trajectories in a 7-year birth *** A total of 946 mother–child pairs(467 boys and 479 girls)from a longitudinal birth cohort in Tianjin City,China,were included in this study,ranging from pregnancy to offspring at 7 *** outcome variable was defined as overweight or not overweight in offspring at the last round.A group-based trajectory model was applied to identify childhood BMI trajectory *** Five discrete BMI trajectory groups were identified and characterized as constant underweight(25.2%),constant normal weight(42.8%),and high or increasing trajectory[at risk of overweight(16.9%),progressive overweight(11.0%)and progressive obesity(4.1%)].Maternal prepregnancy overweight was associated with 1.72(95%CI 1.14–2.60,P=0.01)to 4.02(95%CI 1.94–8.36,P<0.001)times the risk of all high or increasing trajectory groups,and excessive GWG was related to groups at risk of overweight[relative risk ratio(RRR)2.09,95%CI 1.27–3.46,P=0.004]and progressive obesity(RRR 3.33,95%CI 1.13–9.79,P=0.029).Children in all high or increasing trajectory groups were associated with greater overweight risk at the last round[risk ratios(RRs)ranged from 3.54(95%CI 2.53–4.95,P<0.001)to 6.18(95%CI 4.05–9.42,P<0.001)].Conclusion Maternal prepregnancy overweight and excessive gestational weight gain were associated with increasing or high-level childhood body mass index trajectories as well as a greater risk of overweight at 7 years.
