Bilayer Compounded Polytetrafluoroethylene Membrane for Enhanced Oil-Water Emulsion Separation

In order to achieve efficient and durable oil-water emulsion separation,the membranes possessing high separation efficiency and mechanical strength attract extensive attention and are in great *** present study,a kind of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)-based bilayer membrane was fabricated by electrospinning fibrous PTFE(fPTFE)on an expanded PTFE(ePTFE)*** morphological observation revealed that the fibrous structure of the fPTFE layer could be tailored by controlling the formulation of spinning *** addition of appropriate polyoxyethylene(PEO)would make the fibers in the fPTFE layer finer and more *** a result,the compounded membrane exhibited a small pore size of approximately 1.25µm and a substantial porosity nearing 80%.This led to super-hydrophobicity,characterized by a high water contact angle(WCA)of 149.8°,and facilitated rapid oil *** water-in-oil emulsion separation experiment further confirmed that the compounded membrane not only had a high separation efficiency closing 100%,but such an outstanding separation capacity could be largely retained,either through multiple cycles of use or through strong acid(pH=1),strong alkali(pH=12),or high-temperature(100°C)***,the mechanical behavior of the bilayer membrane was basically contributed by that of each layer in terms of their volume *** significantly,the poor creep resistance of fPTFE layer was suppressed by compounding with ePTFE ***,this study has laid the groundwork for a novel approach to create PTFE-based compounded membranes with exceptional overall characteristics,showing promise for applications in the realm of emulsion separation.

Effects of GM-CSF, IL-3, and GM-CSG/IL-3 fusion protein on apoptosis of human myeloid leukemic cell line Tf-1 induced by irradiation

AIM: To observe the effects of three cytokines on the apoptosis of Tf-1 cells induced by y irradiation and investigate the relationship between apoptosis and caspase-3 activity. METHODS: Different cytokines GM-CSF, IL-3 and GM-CS/IL-3 fusion protein were added into the irradiated Tf-1 cells. MTT assay, morphology, flow cytometry, and DNA fragmentation assay were used to observe the effects of cytokines on apoptosis. The caspase-3 activity was determined with a fluorocytometer. RESULTS: Irradiated Tf-1 cells showed typical morphological characteristic of apoptosis demonstrated by transmission electron microscopy and were accumulated in G0/G1 phase. In the groups treated with growth factors after irradiation, three cytokines significantly increased the viability rate, distinctly decreased the apoptosis rate and the proportion of DNA fragmentation. Study on the anticarcinogenic effect and acutetoxicity of liver-targeting mitoxantrone-nanoparticles

AIM To study the anticarcinogenic effect and acute toxicity of liver targeting mitoxantrone nanospheres. METHODS The anticarcinogenic effect of mitoxantrone polybutylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles (DHAQ PBCA NP) was investigated by using heterotopic and orthotopic transplantation models of human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in nude mice and was compared with mitoxantrone (DHAQ) and doxorubicin (ADR). The acute toxicity of DHAQ PBCA NP lyophilized injection in mice was also studied. RESULTS The tumor inhibition rates of ADR, DHAQ, DHAQ PBCA NP to orthotopically transplanted HCC were 60 07%, 67 49% and 99 44%, respectively, but regard to heterotopically transplanted HCC, these were 80 03%, 86 18% and 92 90%, which were concordant with the results acquired by mitosis counting and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). After iv administration to mice with DHAQ PBCA NP, the LD 50 was 16 9*!mg/*!kg ± 3 9*!mg/*!kg , no obvious local irritation was observed and there was no significant damage to the structure of liver cells, and that of the heart, spleen and kidneys. CONCLUSION The effect of DHAQ PBCA NP was significantly higher than that of DHAQ and ADR in the anti orthotopically transplanted HCC and the acute toxicity was relatively low.

Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of novel curcumin analogues

Five novel curcumin analogues bearing different substituents at 4-position of phenyl group were synthesized. Their structures were confirmed by NMR and HRMS spectrum. Their cytotoxic activities against six tumor cell lines were tested by the standard MTT assay in vitro. The results indicated that four analogues （1A-1C, 1E） with solubilizing moieties showed selective potent cytotoxicity against HepG2, HeLa and CT26 cell lines, and analogue 1A and 1C exhibited more potent cytotoxicity than curcumin against CT26 cell line. It was suggested that introduction of appropriate substituents to 4-position of phenyl group might be a potential option for structural modification of curcumin.

Localized delivery,comparing to systemic drug administration,offers a unique alternative to enhance efficacy,lower dosage,and minimize systemic tissue toxicity by releasing therapeutics locally and specifically to the site of ***,a localized drug delivery platform ("plum?pudding"structure) with controlled release and long-acting features is developed through an injectable hydrogel ("pudding") crosslinked via self-assembled triblock polymeric micelles ("plum") to help reduce renal interstitial *** strategy achieves controlled and prolonged release of model therapeutics in the kidney for up to three weeks in *** a single injection,local treatments containing either anti-inflammatory small molecule celastrol or anti-TGFb antibody effectively minimize inflammation while alleviating fibrosis via inhibiting NF-k B signaling pathway or neutralizing TGF-b1 ***,the micelle-hydrogel hybrid based localized therapy shows enhanced efficacy without local or systemic toxicity,which may represent a clinically relevant delivery platform in the management of renal interstitial fibrosis.

ANALYSIS OF OSCILLATORY BLOOD FLOW IN VARYING-AREA ELASTIC VESSEL

In this paper, by solving the fundamental e-qualions of periodicallyoscillatory blood flow, the distributions of pressure gradient and blood velocity in varying-areae-lastic vessel were obtained, and then the wall shear stress and its gradient were calculated. Asan example, the pulsatile blood flow in human carotid was analyzed and the effects of vessel taperangle on the distribution of wall shear stress and its gradient were discussed in detail. Numercialresults show that the wall shear stress will enlarge when the taper angle increases. Meantime, nomatter whether the vessel is converging or diverging, with the increase of the absolute value oftaper angle, the amplitude of wall shear stress gradient will enlarge significantly.

Learning in games:a systematic review

Game theory studies the mathematical models for self-interested individuals. Nash equilibrium is arguably the most central solution in game theory. While finding the Nash equilibrium in general is known as polynomial parity arguments on directed graphs(PPAD)-complete, learning in games provides an alternative to approximate Nash equilibrium, which iteratively updates the player's strategy through interactions with other players. Rules and models have been developed for learning in games, such as fictitious play and no-regret learning. Particularly, with recent advances in online learning and deep reinforcement learning,techniques from these fields greatly boost the breakthroughs in learning in games from theory to *** a result, we have witnessed many superhuman game AI systems. The techniques used in these systems evolve from conventional search and learning to purely reinforcement learning(RL)-style learning methods,gradually getting rid of the domain knowledge. In this article, we systematically review the above techniques,discuss the trend of basic learning rules towards a unified framework, and recap applications in large ***, we discuss some future directions and make the prospect of future game AI systems. We hope this article will give some insights into designing novel approaches.

Competitive Cloud Pricing for Long-Term Revenue Maximization

We study the pricing policy optimization problem for cloud providers while considering three properties of the real-world market:1)providers have only incomplete information about the market;2)it is in evolution due to the increasing number of users and decreasing marginal cost of providers:3)it is fully competitive because of providers'and users'revenuedriven *** far as we know,there is no existing work investigating the optimal pricing policies under such realistic *** first propose a comprehensive model for the real-world cloud inarket and formulatc it as a stochastic *** we use the Markov perfect equilibrium(MPE)to describe providers5 optimal *** we decompose the problem of computing the MPE into two subtasks:1)dividing the stochastic game into many normal-formal games and calculating their Nash equilibria,for which we develop an algorithm ensuring to converge,and 2)computing the MPE of the original game,which is efficiently solved by an algorithm combining the Nash equilibria based on a mild *** results show that our algorithms are efficient for computing MPE and the MPE strategy leads to much higher profits for providers compared with existing policies.
