Ecosystem service values of gardens in the Yellow River Basin,China

Studies on the ecosystem service value(ESV)of gardens are critical for informing evidence-based land management practices based on an understanding of the local ecosystem.By analyzing equivalent value factors(EVFs),this paper evaluated the values of 11 ecosystem services of gardens in the Yellow River Basin of China in 2019.High-precision land use survey data were used to improve the accuracy of the land use classification,garden areas,and spatial distribution of the ESVs of gardens.The results showed that garden ecosystem generally had high ESVs,especially in terms of the ESV of food production,which is worthy of further research and application to the practice of land use planning and management.Specifically,the value of one standard EVF of ecosystem services in 2019 was 3587.04 CNY/(hm^(2)·a),and the ESV of food production of gardens was much higher than that of croplands.Garden ecosystem provided an ESV of 1348.66×10^(8)CNY/a in the Yellow River Basin.The areas with the most concentrated ESVs of gardens were located in four regions:downstream in the Shandong-Henan zone along the Yellow River,mid-stream in the Shanxi-Shaanxi zone along the Yellow River,the Weihe River Basin,and upstream in the Qinghai-Gansu-Ningxia-Inner Mongolia zone along the Yellow River.The spatial correlation of the ESVs in the basin was significant(global spatial autocorrelation index Moran's I=0.464),which implied that the characteristics of high ESVs adjacent to high ESVs and low ESVs adjacent to low ESVs are prominent.In the Yellow River Basin,the contribution of the ESVs of gardens to the local environment and economy varied across regions.We also put forward some suggestions for promoting the construction of ecological civilization in the Yellow River Basin.The findings of this study provide important contributions to the research of ecosystem service evaluation in the Yellow River Basin.

Subterranean estuaries(STE)are important seawater-groundwater mixing zones with complex biogeochemical processes,which play a vital role in the migration and transformation of dissolved materials.In this study,we first investigated the spatial distributions of dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN),dissolved inorganic phosphorous(DIP),dissolved inorganic silicon(DSi)and metal elements(As,Ba,Cr,Cu,Fe,Mn,Ni,Pb,and Zn)in STE including upper intertidal,seepage face and subtidal zones.We then estimated submarine groundwater discharge(SGD)and associated nutrient and metal element fluxes.From the generalized Darcy’s law method,SGD was estimated to be 30.13 cm/d,which was about 7 times larger than the inflow(4.16 cm/d).The nutrient and metal fluxes from SGD were estimated to be(5.33±4.99)mmol/(m^(2)·d)for DIN,(0.22±0.03)mmol/(m^(2)·d)for DIP,(16.20±2.05)mmol/(m^(2)·d)for DSi,(1325.06±99.10)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Fe,(143.41±25.13)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Mn,(304.06±81.07)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Zn,(140.21±13.33)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Cu,(84.49±2.94)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Pb,(37.38±5.51)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Ba,(27.88±3.89)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Cr,(10.10±6.33)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for Ni,and(6.25±3.45)μmol/(m^(2)·d)for As.The nutrient and metal fluxes from SGD were relatively higher than those from the inflow,suggesting that nearshore groundwater acted as the sources of nutrients and metal elements discharging into the sea.The environmental potential pollution of coastal seawater was evaluated by pollution factor index(Pi),comprehensive water quality index(CWQI),and ecological risk index(ERI).Pb mainly caused potential danger of nearshore environment with considerable contamination(Pi=5.78±0.19),heavy pollution(CWQI=4.09)and high ecological risk(ERI=18.00).This study contributed to better understanding the behavior of nutrients and metal elements and improving the sustainable management of STE under the pressure of anthropogenic activities and climate change.

The ridgetail white prawn Exopalaemon carinicauda is a euryhaline shrimp species in the estuarine and coastal areas of China.In this study,survival rates,transcription levels of two prophenoloxidase system-related genes(Ec LGBP and Ecpro PO)and PO activity were determined quantitatively in juvenile and adult E.carinicauda under different salinity levels.The results showed that E.carinicauda juveniles could survive in a wider range of salinity conditions than adults.For juvenile E.carinicauda,the expression levels of Ec LGBP and Ec Pro PO were upregulated in low salinities and showed no significant difference at 20–40,while PO activities in low salinities were higher compared to those in high salinities.For adult E.carinicauda,the expression profiles of Ec LGBP and Ecpro PO had a different trend of up-regulation in salinity stress treatments and no obvious difference was observed in the gene expression levels and PO activity between 30 and 40.The salinity tolerance range of immunity for juvenile and adult E.carinicauda is 20–40 and 30–40,respectively.

Expensive instruments and complicated data processing are often required to discriminate solvents with similar structures and properties.Colorimetric sensors with high selectivity,low cost,and good portability are highly desirable to simplify such detection tasks.Herein,we report the fabrication of a photonic crystal sensor based on the self-assembled resorcinol formaldehyde(RF)hollow spheres to realize colorimetric sensing of polar solvents,including homologs and isomers based on the saturated diffusion time.The diffusion of solvent molecules through the photonic crystal film exhibits a unique three-step diffusion profile accompanied by a dynamic color change,as determined by the physicochemical properties of the solvent molecules and their interactions with the polymer shells,making it possible to accurately identify the solvent type based on the dynamic reflection spectra or visual perception.With its superior selectivity and sensitivity,this single-component colorimetric sensor represents a straightforward tool for convenient solvent detection and identification.

The castables were prepared from spherical lightweight mullite aggregates,bauxite,SiO2 fine powder,α-Al2O3 fine powder and calcium aluminate cement.The performance changes of the castables were studied after heat treatment at 110℃for 24 h,1100℃for 3 h,1200℃for 3 h and 1300℃for 3 h.The results illustrate that the cold modulus of rupture and hot modulus of rupture of the castable increase with the rising heat treatment temperature.The cold crushing strength shows a“V”change trend when the heat treatment temperature rises from 1100 to 1300℃.After the specimen is heat treated at 1300℃,the thermal conductivity is 0.500 W·m-1·K-1,0.586 W·m-1·K-1,0.595 W·m-1·K-1 at 300,600 and 900℃,respectively.The SEM analysis explains the change trends of these properties.The prepared lightweight mullite castables can be applied as the working lining of hot-blast furnaces.

Prorocentrum minimum is a bloom-forming, planktonic mixotrophic dinoflagellate, and can cause stress in shrimp ponds. In this study, healthy Exopalaemon carinicauda were exposed to 5 × 10^4 cells mL^-1 P. minimum for 72 hours to investigate the adverse effect of P. minimum on shrimps. Elevated superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and malondialdehyde(MDA) content, reduced total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC) and catalase(CAT) activity, and regulatory glutathione peroxidase(GPX) activity were found in the hemolymph of E. carinicauda after exposure to P. minimum. In this study, P. minimum exposure induced oxidative stress and caused significant oxidative damage to E. carinicauda. P. minimum exposure increased the expression of HSP70 gene in the hemocyte, gills and hepatopancreas. Compared with the enhanced level of caspase-3 gene mR NA in the hemocyte and gills, the up-regulation of caspase-3 gene in the hepatopancreas was only observed from 3 to 6 h, and then the mRNA level of glutathione-S-transferase(GST) gene increased. These results indicated that GST might be involved in the shrimp hepatopancreas’ defense against P. minimum exposure. The present study demonstrates that exposure to P. minimum could induce oxidative stress and apoptosis in E. carinicauda. The SOD activity, HSP70 and GST(in the hepatopancreas) were evoked to protect cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis. This study will provide new insights into the toxic mechanism of P. minimum on shrimps.

Exopalaemon carinicauda is one of the important economic shrimp species in China, and can tolerate a wide range of salinities. However, its disease resistance remains to be unclear in comparison with other shrimp species under salinity stress. In this study, the resistance to white spot syndrome virus(WSSV) of E. carinicauda and Litopenaeus vannamei was determined by comparing their hemocyanin(Hc) and phenoloxidase(PO) activities under different salinity stresses. In E. carinicauda, the PO activity and Hc gene transcript abundance showed a coherent pattern of increase and decrease while Hc content showed a slightly decrease with Vibrio anguillarum and WSSV infections. For both E. carinicauda and L. vannamei under salinity stress, the PO activity showed a positive correlation with the salinity while the Hc content and expression level of its gene increased significantly in salinities of 5, 15 and 25 g L^(-1). The survival rate of E. carinicauda with WSSV infection was higher than that of L. vannamei in the first 24 h under different salinity stresses. Drastic mortality of E.carinicauda and L. vannamei appeared at 48 h and 3 h post-injection, respectively. Furthermore, compared with L. vannamei, E. carinicauda displayed higher PO activity, Hc content and abundance of Hc gene m RNA. The results collectively indicated that Hc and PO have obviously functional connection in resisting pathogens and tolerating salinity stress, and PO activity and Hc gene m RNA abundance may reflect the resistance of shrimp to disease. E. carinicauda has higher level of immune potential than L. vannamei, suggesting its greater capacity in resisting pathogens under salinity stresses.

In this paper,the effect of high temperature calcination on the structure and properties of bauxite-based homogeneous clinkers calcined at different temperatures for different durations was studied.The results show that with the rising of calcination temperature and the prolonging of holding time,the volume density of bauxite-based homogeneous clinkers increases and the apparent porosity decreases.After high temperature calcination,the linear expansion of bauxitebased homogeneous clinker is smaller than that of the non-calcined ones.Whether calcined at high temperatures or not,the thermal shock resistance of bauxite-based homogeneous clinkers is good.The crystalline phases of bauxite-based homogeneous clinkers are mainly mullite and corundum.There is more glass phase in the bauxite-based homogeneous clinkers without calcination.After calcination at high temperatures the glass phase content decreases significantly,and the mullite crystals develop better forming the cross-network structure.
