External fixation is more suitable for intra-articular fractures of the distal radius in elderly patients

The purpose of this study was to compare the functional outcomes, psychological impact, and complication rates associated with external fixation and volar or dorsal plating in relation to the functional parameters following treatment of intra-articular fractures of the distal radius （IFDR） in patients older than 65 years. We hypothesized that using volar or dorsal plating would improve functional outcomes, but that it would be associated with more complications and equivalent functional outcomes when compared with the external fixation group. A total of 123 consecutive patients suffering from IFDR were recruited into the study. The patients were measured for clinical, radiological, and psychosocial functioning outcomes and were followed up after I week and 3, 6 and 12 months. After 3 months, the plating group had better pronation （P = 0.001）, supination, （P = 0.047） and extension （P = 0.043） scores. These differences were somewhat attenuated by 6 months and disappeared at I year. The plating group had a greater occurrence of wound infection （P = 0.043）, tendonitis, （P = 0.024） and additional surgery compared with the external fixation group. The only TNO-AZL Adult Quality of Life scores in the plating group that were lower than those in the external fixation group were in the ＂gross motor＂ category （walking upstairs, bending over, walking 500 yards; P = 0.023）. Internal fixation was more advantageous than external fixation in the early rehabilitation period; after I year the outcomes were similar. The plating group showed significantly higher levels of wound infection and tendonitis and had a greater need for additional surgeries.

Viscosity profile prediction of a heavy crude oil during lifting in two deep artesian wells

It has been known that the productivity of artesian wells is strongly dependent on the rheological properties of crude oils. This work targets two deep artesian wells(>5000 m) that are producing heavy crude oil. The impacts of well conditions including temperature, pressure and shear rate, on the crude oil rheology were comprehensively investigated and correlated using several empirical rheological models. The experimental data indicate that this heavy oil is very sensitive to temperature as result of microstructure change caused by hydrogen bonding. The rheological behavior of the heavy oil is also significantly impacted by the imposed pressure, i.e., the viscosity flow activation energy(Eμ) gently increases with the increasing pressure. The viscosity–shear rate data are well fitted to the power law model at low temperature. However, due to the transition of fluid feature at high temperature(Newtonian fluid), the measured viscosity was found to slightly deviate from the fitting data. Combining the evaluated correlations, the viscosity profile of the heavy crude oil in these two deep artesian wells as a function of well depth was predicted using the oilfield producing data.

We present a simple approach based on photonic reservoir computing(P-RC)for modulation format identification(MFI)in optical fiber communications.Here an optically injected semiconductor laser with self-delay feedback is trained with the representative features from the asynchronous amplitude histograms of modulation signals.Numerical simulations are conducted for three widely used modulation formats(on–off keying,differential phase-shift keying,and quadrature amplitude modulation)for various transmission situations where the optical signal-to-noise ratio varies from 12 to 26 d B,the chromatic dispersion varies from-500 to 500 ps/nm,and the differential group delay varies from 0 to 20 ps.Under these situations,final simulation results demonstrate that this technique can efficiently identify all those modulation formats with an accuracy of>95%after optimizing the control parameters of the P-RC layer such as the injection strength,feedback strength,bias current,and frequency detuning.The proposed technique utilizes very simple devices and thus offers a resource-efficient alternative approach to MFI.

Spatial Pattern Evolution and Casual Analysis of County Level Economy in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Urban Agglomeration, China

In order to evaluate whether or not the county units′ economy in the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan(Chang-Zhu-Tan) Urban Agglomeration was growing as expected, this study analyzed the spatial economy pattern at county-level by using the Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis(ESDA) method. In this process, the global Moran′s I and local Getis-Ord G*i indexes were employed to analyze indicators including per capita GDP and three industrials(i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary industry) from 2000 to 2010. The results show that: 1) the county units′ economy in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration has exhibited a strong spatial autocorrelation and an accelerated integration trend since 2008(Moran′ s I increased from 0.26 to 0.56); 2) there is a significant difference in economy development between the northern and southern county units in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration: the hotspot zone with high economic level was formed among the northern county units whereas the coldspot zone with low economic level was located in the southern areas. This difference was caused primarily by the increasingly prominent economic radiation effect of Changsha ′upheaval′; 3) town density, secondary industry, and the integration policy are the major contributors driving the evolution of the spatial economy pattern in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Urban Agglomeration.

Comparison axial length measurements from three biometric instruments in high myopia

AIM： To compare the axial lengths （ALs） measured with Lenstar, IOLMaster and A-scan contact ultrasound （Ultrasound） in normal and high myopia （HM）. METHODS： Eighty-four normal eyes and 49 HM eyes were included. Three consecutive measurements were performed on each eye in the following order： Lenstar, IOLMaster, and Ultrasound. The repeatabilities of the AL measurements for each instrument were assessed by calculating the pooled coefficients of variation （CVs） of 18 eyes in each group. Comparisons between the HM and normal groups were made with independent sample t-tests. The inter-device agreements were evaluated with Bland-Altman analyses and paired two-tailed t-tests. RESULTS： For normal group, the CVs of the AL measurements taken with the Lenstar, IOLMaster and Ultrasound were 0.001%, 0.01% and 0.14%, respectively. The corresponding CVs for the HM group were 0.005%, 0.02% and 0.15%, respectively. There was significant difference between the Lenstar and the IOLMaster in normal group （P=0.031） but not in HM group （n=0.100）. In the two groups, the Lenstar and the IOLMaster produced higher values than did the Ultrasound （all P〈 0.001）. All three instruments exhibited good agreement in terms of AL values. For the intraocular lens （IOL） power calculation using SRK II formula, the Lenstar and the IOLMaster showed 0.5 D higher than Ultrasound in both groups （all P〈0.001）. No significant difference existed between the Lenstar and the IOLMaster for the IOL power calculation in both normal （n=0.474） and HM group （P= 0.103）. CONCLUSION： The three devices exhibited excellent intra-visit repeatabilities in the AL measurements. The AL and IOL power difference between partial coherence interferometry and ultrasound instruments should be noticed.

Pointwise A Priori Estimates for Solutions to Some p-Laplacian Equations

In this article,we apply blow-up analysis to study pointwise a priori estimates for some p-Laplacian equations based on Liouville type theorems.With newly developed analysis techniques,we first extend the classical results of interior gradient estimates for the harmonic function to that for the p-harmonic function,i.e.,the solution ofΔpu=0,x∈Ω.We then obtain singularity and decay estimates of the sign-changing solution of Lane-Emden-Fowler type p-Laplacian equation-Δp^(u)=|u|^(λ-1)u,x∈Ω,which are then extended to the equation with general right hand term f(x,u)with certain asymptotic properties.In addition,point wise estimates for higher order derivatives of the solution to Lane-Emden type p-Laplacian equation,in a case of p=2,are also discussed.

本研究采用以O_(2)为氧化剂、CuO为催化剂的催化湿法氧化技术去除拜尔液中的有机物。首先,在O_(2)添加量为13.98 g/L、氧化温度为220℃、氧化时间为100 min、不添加CuO的条件下,总有机碳、腐植酸钠和草酸钠的去除率分别为86.59%、92.96%和71.36%。在此基础上,研究了O_(2)氧化拜尔液中有机物的自由基链式反应机理。然后,在CuO添加量为6%、O_(2)添加量为13.98 g/L、催化温度为250℃、催化时间为100 min的最佳条件下,总有机碳去除率为98.36%,腐植酸钠和草酸钠基本能够被全部去除。CuO形成的铜羟基络合物([Cu(Ⅱ)(OH)_x]~(2-x))基于络合反应机理是催化有机物降解的主要原因,溶解的CuO直接催化的自由基链式反应是第二个原因。催化湿法氧化技术能够有效去除拜尔液中的有机物,尤其是对氧化铝生产危害较大的草酸钠。

Ultrafast and real-time physical random bit extraction with all-optical quantization

Optical chaos generated by perturbing semiconductor lasers has been viewed,over recent decades,as an excellent entropy source for fast physical random bit generation(RBG)owing to its high bandwidth and large random fluctuations.However,most optical-chaos-based random bit generators perform their quantization process in the electrical domain using electrical analog-to-digital converters,so their real-time rates in a single channel are severely limited at the level of Gb/s due to the electronic bottleneck.Here,we propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical method for RBG where chaotic pulses are quantized into a physical random bit stream in the all-optical domain by means of a length of highly nonlinear fiber.In our proof-of-concept experiment,a 10-Gb/s random bit stream is successfully generated on-line using our method.Note that the single-channel real-time rate is limited only by the chaos bandwidth.Considering that the Kerr nonlinearity of silica fiber with an ultrafast response of few femtoseconds is exploited for composing the key part of quantizing laser chaos,this scheme thus may operate potentially at much higher real-time rates than 100 Gb/s provided that a chaotic entropy source of sufficient bandwidth is available.

蚜虫减量饲喂对七星瓢虫成虫产卵特性的影响

为了明确蚜虫减量饲喂对高密度条件下七星瓢虫(Coccinella septempunctata L.)成虫产卵特性的影响,试验设计0、25%、50%、75%、100%共5个蚜虫减量处理,分别为A(纯蚜虫)、B(3 d蚜虫1 d人工饲料)、C(1 d蚜虫1 d人工饲料)、D(1 d蚜虫3 d人工饲料)、E(纯人工饲料),分析蚜虫减量饲喂对七星瓢虫成虫产卵量、产卵位置选择、孵化率、寿命的影响。结果表明,A、B、C、D、E各处理七星瓢虫产卵量整体随蚜虫饲养量的减少而减少;B处理25%蚜虫减量与A处理纯蚜虫对照无显著差异;七星瓢虫各处理所产卵块绝大多数为可收集卵,卵块的可利用率高;除E处理为纯饲料外,各蚜虫减量处理对七星瓢虫的产卵位置选择、孵化率和寿命无显著影响。综上所述,B处理减量25%的豆蚜,并配合人工饲料饲喂高密度七星瓢虫,各项指标较A处理纯蚜虫对照均无显著差异,可以运用于七星瓢虫的高效繁育。
