Optimizing carbon/carbon supercapacitors in aqueous alkali sulfates electrolytes

Neutral aqueous alkali sulfate has shown great interests for developing environmentally friendly high voltage and high energy supercapacitors. This work focuses on systematically investigating the properties of symmetric carbon/carbon supercapacitors in neutral aqueous alkali sulfates. At room temperature, the largest power and energy density were obtained with K2SO4 electrolyte due to the smallest cation dimensions and highest electrical conductivity. At low temperature, aqueous Li2SO4 electrolyte presents the best performance due to the largest solubility, allowing a long-term stability at temperatures ranging between 20℃ and –10℃ at a maximum voltage of 1.8 V. The excellent stability has been confirmed that capacitance retention achieves as high as 92% after 10,000 cycles. The capacitance variations with temperatures could essentially result from kinetic diffusion barrier, ion dimension changes and fewer pseudo-capacitance contributions under different temperatures. This work highlights the selected virtues of different alkali sulfate electrolytes for enhanced supercapacitors.

Biointelligent manufacturing is currently at the center of industrial biotechnology.Industrial biotechnology has historic roots dating thousand years back where microbial fermentation was used to preserve foods,make bread and fermented drinks,but has risen to a modern industry.Much of the development into a modern industry was driven initially by production of antibiotics and later by production of food and feed ingredients.In this development,the late MIT emeritus Professor Arnold(Arny)Lester Demain was one of the drivers and is considered one of the founders of industrial biotechnology.His research founds wide applications and he stands as one of the giants in the field of industrial microbiology and biotechnology[1-7].

Today, the problems of power consumption and environmental pollution caused by road trafficare very serious. Automobiles produce large amounts of carbon monoxide and nitrogen, dust,and particles, which are the primary user of the fuel. Unconventional design methods will preventthe international process of replacing fuel-filled vehicles with electric vehicles. The promotionand adoption of electric vehicles can effectively alleviate these problems, but the planning ofelectric vehicle charging facilities needs to be resolved as soon as possible. The state-of-the-artmodeand power model of public charging equipment proposed in this paper can solve the problemof positioning charging equipment in large-scale transmission networks and research onrelated charging materials and location planning and energy model design methods that arebeneficial to the future development.

Power electronic converters under weak grid conditions may trigger new dynamic stability problems.Even though massive internal and external damping methods have been investigated,their system costs and robustness have not been solved in an effective way.This paper first proposes a sensorless active damping method based on the grid current feedback filter.The mid-frequency non-passive region of converters can be reduced effectively,thus system stability improvement in weak grids can be realized.Then this paper analyzes the feedback filter which may bring about additional non-passive regions in high frequency.What’s more,it has a poor robustness.The residual mid-frequency non-passive region can be enlarged under converter parameter variations.Furthermore,this paper proposes a hybrid active damping method.The grid voltage is fed forward through a low pass filter.The robustness against parameter variation is greatly improved and the non-passive region in high frequency is also totally eliminated.In order to further improve the system robustness in high frequency,a simple passive damping is also added.The damping resistor is designed small to reduce the damping loss.The simulation and experimental results prove that the proposed sensorless method can realize robust damping in an economic way.

Recently,C568 has emerged as a new carbon allotrope,which shows semiconducting properties with a band gap around 1 eV and has attracted much attention.In this work,the external strain effects on the electronic properties of C568 have been studied theoretically through first-principle calculations.The numerical results show that while in-plane uniaxial and biaxial strains both reduces the band gap of C568 in case of tensile strain,their effects are quite different in the case of compressive strain.With increasing compressive uniaxial strain,the band gap of C568 first increases,and then dramatically decreases.In contrast,the application of compressive biaxial strain up to -10% only leads to a slight increase of band gap.Moreover,an indirect-todirect gap transition can be realized under both types of compressive strain.The results also show that the optical anisotropy of C568 can be induced under uniaxial strain,while biaxial strain does not cause such an effect.These results indicate good strain tunability of the band structure of C568,which could be helpful for the design and optimization of C568-based nanodevices.

Objective:Secreted modular calcium-binding proteins (SMOCs) are extracellular glycoproteins of the secreted protein, acidic, and rich in cysteine-related modular calcium-binding protein family and include two isoforms, SMOC1 and SMOC2, in humans. Functionally, SMOCs bind to calcium for various cell functions. In this review, we provided a summary of the most recent advancements and findings of SMOC1 and SMOC2 in development, homeostasis, and disease states.Data sources:All publications in the PubMed database were searched and retrieved (up to July 24, 2019) using various combinations of keywords searching, including SMOC1, SMOC2, and diseases.Study selection:All original studies and review articles of SMOCs in human diseases and embryo development written in English were retrieved and included.Results:SMOC1 and SMOC2 regulate embryonic development, cell homeostasis, and disease pathophysiology. They play an important role in the regulation of cell cycle progression, cell attachment to the extracellular matrix, tissue fibrosis, calcification, angiogenesis, birth defects, and cancer development.Conclusions:SMOC1 and SMOC2 are critical regulators of many cell biological processes and potential therapeutic targets for the control of human cancers and birth defects.

Carbonate reservoirs have complex pore structures,which not only significantly affect the elastic properties and seismic responses of the reservoirs but also affect the accuracy of the prediction of the physical parameters.The existing rockphysics inversion methods are mainly designed for clastic rocks,and the inversion objects are generally porosity and water saturation.The data used are primarily based on the elastic parameters,and the inversion methods are mainly linear approximations.To date,there has been a lack of a simultaneous pore structure and physical parameter inversion method for carbonate reservoirs.To solve these problems,a new Bayesian nonlinear simultaneous inversion method based on elastic impedance is proposed.This method integrates the differential effective medium model of multiple-porosity rocks,Gassmann equation,Amplitude Versus Offset(AVO)theory,Bayesian theory,and a nonlinear inversion algorithm to achieve the simultaneous quantitative prediction of the pore structure and physical parameters of complex porous reservoirs.The forward modeling indicates that the contribution of the pore structure,i.e.,the pore aspect ratio,to the AVO response and elastic impedance is second only to that of porosity and is far greater than that of water saturation.The application to real data shows that the new inversion method for determining the pore structure and physical parameters directly from pre-stack data can accurately predict a reservoir's porosity and water saturation and can evaluate the pore structure of the effective reservoir.

Complex numbers are widely used in classical and quantum physics.Further,they play an important role in describing quantum systems and their dynamical behaviors.Herein,we propose several measures of the imaginarity of quantum states based on l1 norm and convex functions in the framework of resource theory.Further,we investigate the quantum state order after a quantum system passes through a real channel.Rigorous proof shows that these proposed measures possess all the desirable properties for a measure of imaginarity.The connection between the measure of imaginarity based on the l1 norm and the measure of imaginarity based on relative entropy is derived.Moreover,we demonstrate that the l1 norm-based and the relative entropy-based measures of imaginarity are of the same order for qubit quantum states.Further we discuss the influences of the bit flip channel,phase damping channel,and amplitude flip channel on single qubit state order.
