Expression patterns and action analysis of genes associated with drug-induced liver diseases during rat liver regeneration

AIM: To study the action of the genes associated with drug-induced liver diseases at the gene transcriptional level during liver regeneration (LR) in rats. METHODS: The genes associated with drug-induced liver diseases were obtained by collecting the data from databases and literature, and the gene expression changes in the regenerating liver were checked by the Rat Genome 230 2.0 array. RESULTS: The initial and total expression numbers of genes occurring in phases of 0.5-4 h after partial hepatectomy (PH), 4-6 h after PH (G0/G1 transition), 6-66 h after PH (cell proliferation), 66-168 h after PH (cell differentiation and structure-function reconstruction) were 21, 3, 9, 2 and 21, 9, 19, 18, respectively. It is illustrated that the associated genes were mainly triggered at the initial stage of LR and worked at different phases. According to their expression similarity, these genes were classified into 5 types: only up- regulated (12 genes), predominantly up-regulated (4 genes), only down-regulated (11 genes), predominantly down-regulated (3 genes), and approximately up-/ down-regulated (2 genes). The total times of their up- and down-expression were 130 and 79, respectively, demonstrating that expression of most of the genes was increased during LR, while a few decreased. The cell physiological and biochemical activities during LR were staggered according to the time relevance and were diverse and complicated in gene expression patterns. CONCLUSION: Drug metabolic capacity in regenerating liver was enhanced. Thirty-two genes play important roles during liver regeneration in rats.

On the Physical Processes in Contact Binary Systems

Three important physical processes occurring in contact binary systems are studied. The first one is the effect of spin, orbital rotation and tide on the structure of the components, which includes also the effect of meridian circulation on the mixing of the chemical elements in the components. The second one is the mass and energy exchange between the components. To describe the energy exchange, a new approach is introduced based on the understanding that the exchange is due to the release of the potential, kinetic and thermal energy of the exchanged mass. The third is the loss of mass and angular momentum through the outer Lagrangian point. The rate of mass loss and the angular momentum carded away by the lost mass are discussed. To show the effects of these processes, we follow the evolution of a binary system consisting of a 12M⊙ and a 5M⊙ star with mass exchange between the components and mass loss via the outer Lagrangian point, both with and without considering the effects of rotation and tide. The result shows that the effect of rotation and tide advances the start of the semi-detached and the contact phases, and delays the end of the hydrogen-burning phase of the primary. Furthermore, it can change not only the occurrence of mass and angular momentum loss via the outer Lagrangian point, but also the contact or semi-contact status of the system. Thus, this effect can result in the special phenomenon of short-term variations occurring over a slow increase of the orbital period. The occurrence of mass and angular momentum loss via the outer Lagrangian point can affect the orbital period of the system significantly, but this process can be influenced, even suppressed out by the effect of rotation and tide. The mass and energy exchange occurs in the common envelope. The net result of the mass exchange process is a mass transfer from the primary to the secondary during the whole contact phase.

Cytokine release syndrome(CRS)embodies a mixture of clinical manifestations,including elevated circulating cytokine levels,acute systemic inflammatory symptoms and secondary organ dysfunction,which was first described in the context of acute graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation and was later observed in pandemics of influenza,SARS-CoV and COVID-19,immunotherapy of tumor,after chimeric antigen receptor T(CAR-T)therapy,and in monogenic disorders and autoimmune ***,severe CRS is a very significant and life-threatening complication,which is clinically characterized by persistent high fever,hyperinflammation,and severe organ ***,CRS is a double-edged sword,which may be both helpful in controlling tumors/viruses/infections and harmful to the *** a high incidence and high levels of cytokines are features of CRS,the detailed kinetics and specific mechanisms of CRS in human diseases and intervention therapy remain *** the present review,we have summarized the most recent advances related to the clinical features and management of CRS as well as cutting-edge technologies to elucidate the mechanisms of *** that CRS is the major adverse event in human diseases and intervention therapy,our review delineates the characteristics,kinetics,signaling pathways,and potential mechanisms of CRS,which shows its clinical relevance for achieving both favorable efficacy and low toxicity.

Numerical investigation of the effects of turbulence on the ignition process in a turbulent MILD flame

In this study,we conduct three-dimensional nonlinear large-eddy simulation to investigate the interaction between turbulence and reaction during the initial ignition process of a turbulent methane/hydrogen jet-in-hot-coflow flame under moderate or intense low-oxygen dilution(MILD)*** focus has been placed on the spatial development of the flame and the temporal evolution of representative ignition spots that characterize the range of ignition behaviors observed in the *** show that the ignition process of the flame consists of four consecutive *** occurs initially with relatively lean mixtures,and compared to the corresponding homogeneous stagnant adiabatic combustion,the loss of radical species associated with flow transportation causes a delay in *** initial ignition spots formed during the autoignition phase provide sufficient conditions for the stabilization of the flame,including the provision of a variety of key *** also show that the flow convection accompanying the hot coflow dominated the slow flame propagation,and the turbulent mixing is of great importance for rapid flame *** findings will broaden our knowledge of MILD combustion and provide useful insights into advanced ignition contr.

Migration and transformation of Sb are affected by Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)associated with lepidocrocite originating from Fe(Ⅱ)oxidation

Antimony(Sb)is a recognized priority pollutant with toxicity that is influenced by its mi-gration and transformation *** of Fe(Ⅱ)to Fe(Ⅲ)oxides,which is a com-mon phenomenon in the environment,is often accompanied by the formation of Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)and might affect the fate of *** this study,incorporated Mn(Ⅲ)and sorbed/precipitated Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)associated with lepidocrocite were prepared by adding Mn(Ⅱ)during and after Fe(Ⅱ)oxidation,respectively,and the effects of these Mn species on Sb fate were *** results indicated that the association of these Mn species with lepidocrocite obviously enhanced Sb(Ⅲ)oxidation to Sb(V),while concomitantly inhibiting Sb sorption due to the lower sorption capacity of lepidocrocite for Sb(V)than Sb(Ⅲ).Additionally,Mn oxide equivalents increased in the presence of Sb,indicating that Sb oxidation by Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)associated with lepidocrocite was a continuous recycling process in which Mn(Ⅱ)released from Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)reduction by Sb(Ⅲ)could be oxidized to Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)*** recycling pro-cess was favorable for effective Sb(Ⅲ)***,Sb(Ⅴ)generated from Sb(Ⅲ)ox-idation by Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)enhanced Mn(Ⅱ)sorption at the beginning of the process,and thus favored Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)formation,which could further promote Sb(Ⅲ)oxidation to Sb(V).Over-all,this study elucidated the effects of Mn(Ⅲ/Ⅳ)associated with lepidocrocite arisen from Fe(Ⅱ)oxidation on Sb migration and transformation and revealed the underlying reaction mechanisms,contributing to a better understanding of the geochemical dynamics of Sb.

Multicolour single-mode polarized microlasers with visible to near-infrared output have very important applications in photonic integration and multimodal biochemical sensing/imaging but are very difficult to ***,we demonstrate a single crystal with multiple segments based on the host-guest metal-organic framework ZJU-68 hierarchically hybridized with different dye molecules generating controllable single-mode green,red,and nearinfrared lasing,with the lasing mode mechanism revealed by computational *** segmented and oriented assembly of different dye molecules within the ZJU-68 microcrystal causes it to act as a shortened resonator,enabling us to achieve dynamically controllable multicolour single-mode lasing with a low three-colour-lasing threshold of ~1.72 mJ/cm^(2)(approximately seven times lower than that of state-of-the-art designed heterostructure alloys,as reported by Fan F et al.(***.10:796-803,2015)considering the single pulse energy density)and degree of polarization>99.9%.Furthermore,the resulting three-colour single-mode lasing possesses the largest wavelength coverage of ~186 nm(ranging from ~534 to ~720 nm)ever *** findings may open a new route to the exploitation of multicolour single-mode micro/nanolasers constructed by MOF engineering for photonic and biochemical applications.

Crystallization behavior of blast furnace slag modified by adding iron ore tailing

Blast furnace （BF） slag is a by-product of the ironmaking process and could be utilized to manufacture slag fiber by adding iron ore tailing. The crystallization behavior of the modified BF slag is significant to the fi- brosis process. To investigate the influence of basieity on the crystallization behavior, BF slag was modi- fied by adding iron ore tailing at room temperature and melted at 1 500 ℃. FactSage simulation, X-ray dif- fraction, scanning electron microscopy backscattered electron imaging coupled to an energy dispersive spectrometer, and hot thermocouple technique analysis were performed to explore the crystallization be- havior of the modified BF slag during the cooling process. It was found that the initial crystallization tem- perature increased with the increase in basicity. Melilite, anorthite, clinopyroxene, and wollastonite could be generated during the cooling process as basicity ranged from 0.7 to 0.9. Spinel could be found as one of the phases; however, wollastonite disappeared under a basicity of 1.0. The initial crystallization tempera- ture was controlled by the crystallization of melilite during the cooling process when the basicity of the modified BF slag ranged from 0. 7 to 1.0. Moreover, the cooling rate could also influence the crystalliza- tion of the modified BF slag.

Efficient nitrogen doped porous carbonaceous CO_(2) adsorbents based on lotus leaf

In this work, the waste biomass lotus leaf was converted into N-doped porous carbonaceous CO_(2) adsorbents. The synthesis process includes carbonization of lotus leaf, melamine post-treatment and KOH activation. For the resultant sorbents, high nitrogen content can be contained due to the melamine modification and advanced porous structure were formed by KOH etching. These samples were carefully characterized by different techniques and their CO_(2) adsorption properties were investigated in detail. These sorbents hold good CO_(2) adsorption abilities, up to 3.87 and 5.89 mmol/g at 25 and 0 °C under 1 bar, respectively. By thorough investigation, the combined interplay of N content and narrow microporous volume was found to be responsible for the CO_(2) uptake for this series of sorbents. Together with the high CO_(2) adsorption abilities, these carbons also display excellent reversibility, high CO_(2)/N 2 selectivity, applicable heat of adsorption, fast CO_(2) adsorption kinetics and good dynamic CO_(2) adsorption capacity. This study reveals a universal method of obtaining N-doped porous carbonaceous sorbents from leaves. The low cost of raw materials accompanied by easy synthesis procedure disclose the enormous potential of leaves-based carbons in CO_(2) capture as well as many other applications.

The blood flow model admits the steady state,in which the flux gradient is non-zero and is exactly balanced by the source *** this paper,we present a high order well-balanced finite difference weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WENO)scheme,which exactly preserves the steady *** order to maintain the wellbalanced property,we propose to reformulate the equation and apply a novel source term *** numerical experiments are carried out to verify the performances of the current scheme such as the maintenance of well-balanced property,the ability to capture the perturbations of such steady state and the genuine high order accuracy for smooth solutions.

Biosorption of Cr(Ⅲ)from aqueous solution by freeze-dried activated sludge:Equilibrium,kinetic and thermodynamic studies

Batch biosorption experiments were conducted to remove Cr(Ⅲ)from aqueous solutions using activated sludge from a sewage treatment *** investigation was conducted on the effects of the initial pH,contact time,temperature,and initial Cr(Ⅲ)concentration in the biosorption *** results revealed that the activated sludge exhibited the highest Cr(Ⅲ)uptake capacity(120 mg·g^(–1))at 45℃,initial pH of 4,and initial Cr(Ⅲ)concentration of 100 mg·L^(–1).The biosorption results obtained at various temperatures showed that the biosorption pattern accurately followed the Langmuir *** calculated thermodynamic parameters,ΔGo(–0.8––4.58 kJ·mol^(–1)),ΔHo(15.6–44.4 kJ·mol^(–1)),andΔSo(0.06–0.15 kJ·mol^(–1)·K^(–1))clearly indicated that the biosorption process was feasible,spontaneous,endothermic,and *** pseudo first-order and second-order kinetic models were adopted to describe the experimental data,which revealed that the Cr(Ⅲ)biosorption process conformed to the second-order rate expression and the biosorption rate constants decreased with increasing Cr(Ⅲ)*** analysis of the values of biosorption activation energy(Ea=–7 kJ·mol^(–1))and the intraparticle diffusion model demonstrated that Cr(Ⅲ)biosorption was film-diffusion-controlled.
