MSCs-exosomes in regeneration medicine:Current evidence and future perspectives

Exosomes,especially from mesenchymal stem cells,have attracted extensive attention in regeneration medicine.Mesenchymal stem cells derived exosomes(MSCs-exosomes)have shown anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant,antiapoptosis and tissue regeneration effects in a variety of tissue injury repair models.MSCs-exosomes hold many excellent properties such as low immunogenicity,biocompatibility,and targeting capability.With the in-depth study on the generation and function of exosomes,MSCs-exosomes are considered to be the bright stars in the field of regenerative medicine.However,there are still many obstacles to overcome in terms of exosomes isolation,clinical trials and safety evaluation.In this article,what we should focus on about MSCs-exosomes in regeneration medicine will be discussed.

Introduction:Previous studies have demonstrated significant changes in social contacts during the firstwave coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in Chinese mainland.The purpose of this study was to quantify the time-varying contact patterns by age in Chinese mainland in 2020 and evaluate their impact on the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Methods:Diary-based contact surveys were performed for four periods:baseline(prior to 2020),outbreak(February 2020),post-lockdown(March–May 2020),and post-epidemic(September–November 2020).We built a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered(SIR)model to evaluate the effect of reducing contacts on transmission.Results:During the post-epidemic period,daily contacts resumed to 26.7%,14.8%,46.8%,and 44.2%of the pre-COVID levels in Wuhan,Shanghai,Shenzhen,and Changsha,respectively.This suggests a moderate risk of resurgence in Changsha,Shenzhen,and Wuhan,and a low risk in Shanghai.School closure alone was not enough to interrupt transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5,but with the addition of a 75%reduction of contacts at the workplace,it could lead to a 16.8%reduction of the attack rate.To control an outbreak,concerted strategies that target schools,workplaces,and community contacts are needed.Discussion:Monitoring contact patterns by age is key to quantifying the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks and evaluating the impact of intervention strategies.

In this paper,firstly,we give a counterexample to point out there exist deficiencies in our previous works(Wu et al.in J Glob Optim 31:45-60,2005).In addition,we improve the corresponding results.Finally,an example is presented to illustrate how a monotone non-convex optimization problem can be transformed into an equivalent convex minimization problem.

Primary membranous nephropathy(PMN)is the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults.Most patients with PMN have circulating immunoglobulin G4 autoantibody to the podocyte membrane antigen phospholipase A2 receptor(PLA2R).Venous thromboembolism is a common and important complication of nephrotic syndrome,while arterial thromboembolic events such as coronary,peripheral,and cerebral infarctions are rarely seen.Ischemic stroke(IS)in patients with nephrotic syndrome has been described in several reports.But the etiology of IS,the correlation between IS and kidney disease or anti-PLA2R antibodies,the prognosis of IS,and the imaging characteristics in such patients have not been fully elucidated.In the present study,we reviewed the clinical and neuroimaging characteristics of patients with IS and anti-PLA2R antibody-positive PMN to identify the correlation between IS and anti-PLA2R antibody-positive PMN.This research was approved by the Ethics Committee of Peking University(No.IRB00001052-17018),written informed consent was not required under local legislation.

A Novel Fine-Grained Method for Vehicle Type Recognition Based on the Locally Enhanced PCANet Neural Network

In this paper, we propose a locally enhanced PCANet neural network for fine-grained classification of vehicles. The proposed method adopts the PCANet unsupervised network with a smaller number of layers and simple parameters compared with the majority of state-of-the-art machine learning methods. It simplifies calculation steps and manual labeling, and enables vehicle types to be recognized without time-consuming training. Experimental results show that compared with the traditional pattern recognition methods and the multi-layer CNN methods, the proposed method achieves optimal balance in terms of varying scales of sample libraries, angle deviations, and training speed. It also indicates that introducing appropriate local features that have different scales from the general feature is very instrumental in improving recognition rate. The 7-angle in 180° （12-angle in 360°） classification modeling scheme is proven to be an effective approach, which can solve the problem of suffering decrease in recognition rate due to angle deviations, and add the recognition accuracy in practice.

Dear Editor,POEMS-associated multicentric Castleman disease(POEMS-MCD)is a subtype of MCD that presents POEMS symptoms(polyneuropathy,organomegaly,endocrinopathy,M protein,and skin changes)as well as the manifestations of MCD.Among these symptoms,polyneuropathy is a critical feature.However,its mechanism remains poorly understood.The present study presents a case of severe peripheral neuropathy in a POEMSMCD patient.Whole-exome sequencing(WES),threedimensional modeling,and protein stability analysis demonstrated that the mutation V49G in PDLIM5 resulted in instability of the protein,which may play a key role in the pathogenesis of peripheral neuropathy in POEMSMCD.

The exploration of novel,super-potent and low-cost electrocatalysts for water splitting has always been the kernel in the field of renewable sources.Herein,exfoliated Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXenes work as a substrate to vertically grow polypore N,Ni-Co2P nanoarrays(N,Ni-Co2P@TC)through an in situ interface-growth strategy and subsequent phosphorization and nitridation.The well-defined heterointerfaces with positive and negative ions co-modulation as coupled hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)catalysts for efficient overall water splitting are investigated,which possesses excellent durability even at a large current density(±500 mA cm^(-2)).For HER,suitable H_(2)O∗and H∗absorption energies and accelerated electronic transmission make N,Ni-Co2P@TC display a low overpotential of 27 mV at-10 mA cm^(-2) and Tafel slope of 38 mV dec^(–1) in 1 mol/L KOH.For OER,the synergy of N,Ni-Co2P@TC with selfreconfiguration can give enhanced activity with a low overpotential of 232 mV at 10 mA cm^(-2) and a Tafel slope of 57 mV dec^(–1).Additionally,the excellent bifunctional activity allows easily combining for efficient overall water splitting with a low driving voltage(1.51 V)at 10 mA cm^(-2),and the electrolyzer can be driven by a 1.5 V AAA battery.

Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)represents the second most common type of stroke,with high mortality and disability rates.^([1,2])In 2010,there were approximately 5.3 million ICH cases,with 3 million deaths worldwide.^([1])However,there is still no validated medical treatment for ICH,with the role of surgery remaining controversial.^([2,3])Cusack et al^([4])demonstrated that lowering blood pressure rapidly in hypertensive ICH patients may be safe and at least partially effective in inhibiting hematoma expansion.

Fourteen new geranyl phenyl ethers(1–14)along with three known compounds(15–17)were isolated from Illicium micranthum,and their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic methods.Illimicranins A–H(1–8)were characterized as geranyl vanillin ethers,while 9 and 10 were dimethyl acetal derivatives.Illimicranins I and J(11 and 12)were rare geranyl isoeugenol ethers.Illimicranins K and L(13 and 14)represented the first example of geranyl guaiacylacetone ether and geranyl zingerone ether,respectively.Compounds 1,2 and 15 exhibited anti-HBV(hepatitis B virus)activity against HBsAg(hepatitis B surface antigen)and HBeAg(hepatitis B e antigen)secretion,and HBV DNA replication.
