The risks of sulfur addition on cadmium accumulation in paddy rice under different water-management conditions

Recently, the application of sulfur(S) has been recommended to control the accumulation of cadmium(Cd) in rice in contaminated paddy soil. However, the effects of exogenous S on Cd transfer in paddy rice systems under different water-management practices have not been systematically investigated. Pot experiments were performed to monitor the composition of soil pore water and the Cd accumulation in iron plaque and rice tissue were compared under different S(0 and 200 mg/kg Na_(2)SO_(4)) and water(continuous and discontinuous flooding) treatments. Sulfur application significantly increased Cd concentrations in soil pore water under discontinuous flooding conditions, but slightly reduced them under continuous flooding. Moreover, the oxidation/reduction potential(Eh) was the most critical factor that affected the Cd levels. When the Eh exceeded-42.5 mV, S became the second critical factor, and excessive S application promoted Cd dissolution. In addition, S addition elevated the Cd levels in iron plaque and reduced the Cd transfer from the iron plaque to rice roots. In rice, S addition inhibited Cd transfer from the rice roots to the straw;thus, more Cd was stored in the rice roots. Nevertheless, additional S application increased the Cd content in the rice grains by 72% under discontinuous flooding, although this effect was mitigated by continued flooding. Under simulated practical water management conditions, S addition increased the risk of Cd contamination in rice, suggesting that S application should be reconsidered as a paddy fertilization strategy.

The tight sandstone in the Tarim Basin has the characteristics of large burial depth and development of nature fractures due to concentrated in-situ stress. Identifying the present-day in-situ stress orientation is important in hydrocarbon exploration and development, but also a key scientific question in understanding naturally fractured reservoirs. This paper presents a case study where we integrate various methods using wireline and image-log data, to identify present-day in-situ stress direction of ultra-deep fractured tight sandstone reservoirs, in the Kuqa depression. We discuss the formation mechanism of the elliptical borehole, compares the advantages and applicable conditions of the double caliper method,resistivity image logs and array sonic logs method. The well borehole diameter is measured orthogonally,then the ellipse is fitted, and the in-situ stress orientation is identified by the azimuth of the short-axis borehole, but it fails in the borehole expansion section, the fracture development section and the borehole collapse section. The micro-resistivity image logs method reveals the borehole breakouts azimuth, and also the strike of induced fractures, which are used to determine the orientation of in-situ stress. However, under water-based mud conditions, it’s hard to distinguish natural fractures from induced fractures by image logs. Under oil-based mud conditions, the induced fractures are difficult to identify due to the compromised image quality. As for the sonic log, shear waves will split when passing through an anisotropic formation, shear waves will split during propagation, and the azimuth of fast shear waves is consistent with the orientation of in-situ stress. However, it is usually affected by the anisotropy caused by the excessively fast rotation of the well log tools, so that the azimuth of fast shear wave cannot effectively reflect the orientation of the in-situ stress. Age-period-cohort analysis of pulmonary tuberculosis reported incidence, China, 2006-2020

Background:Tuberculosis(TB)poses a severe public health challenge in China and worldwide.This study evaluated the effects of age,period,and birth cohort on reported incidence trends of TB based on population and refined the characteristics of high-risk groups.Methods:Aggregate data that reported pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)cases from China Tuberculosis Management Information System(TBIMS)from 2006 to 2020 were used to analyze effect coefficients through the age-period-cohort(APC)model based on intrinsic estimator(IE)method,and converted them into relative risk(RR)to estimate trends.Results:A total of 14.82 million cases of PTB were reported in China from 2006 to 2020,showing a continuous downward trend.The reporting rate increased with age by age group,with 70-74 years old being 2-3 times higher than that in 20-24 years old.APC analysis model showed that age effects were bimodal in 20-24 years old[RR=2.29,95%confidence interval(CI):1.73-3.03]and 70-74 years old(RR=1.95,95%CI:1.67-2.27),and lower than the overall average in the groups under 15 years old.Stratified results showed that the risk was higher for women under age 40 than men and higher for men over 40.The risk was higher in urban than in rural areas under 30 years old and slightly higher in rural than in urban between 30 and 64 years old.The risk for 15-34 years old was significantly higher in the east than in other regions.The period effects showed a decreasing trend,and the risk was higher in rural in recent years.Except for cohorts born in 1961-1965 and 2001-2005,where theRR increased,the later the cohort was born,the lower the risk.The cohort 1926-1930 in eastern had the highest risk(RR=3.49,95%CI:2.44-4.98).Conclusions:The reported incidence of PTB continued to decline in China from 2006 to 2020.The young(20-24 years old)and the elderly(70-74 years old)were equally at high risk.There were differences in the age,period and cohort effects on PTB incidence among gender,urban-rural and regions.Our findings better reflected the characteristics of high-ris

Pelvic osteotomy is commonly used to adjust acetabula dysplasia for congenital dislocation of the hip, whereas congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis(CIPA) is a rare hereditary disease that often has the characteristics of joint development deformity and easy fracture. This article reports the case involving a CIPA patient who was surgically treated by Chiari pelvic osteotomy and proximal femoral rotation osteotomy for congenital dislocation of the left hip joint and was provided long-term follow-up for redislocation and bilateral femoral head absorption.

Analysis of the Fragile X Mental Retardation 1 Premutation in Han Chinese Women Presenting with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency

Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of the fragile X mental retardation 1(FMR1) gene premutation in Han Chinese women with primary ovarian insufficiency(POI) using a rapid and cost-effective method. Methods: A total of 153 Han Chinese women with sporadic POI were systematically analyzed for trinucleotide repeats within the FMR1 gene. We employed an improved strategy to screen for cytosine-guanine-guanine repeats in the 5’ untranslated region of the FMR1 gene. Before using the previously reported Fragil Ease polymerase chain reaction(PCR) method for premutation identification, we developed a new cost-effective PCR-based method to exclude most of the normal allele carriers during the initial screening stage. Results: In our initial screening, 62.1% of women with POI were found to carry heterozygous normal alleles of FMR1, which were recognized by our sensitive and cost-effective method. The remaining women were further screened for the presence of the FMR1 premutation. We identified a Han Chinese woman with a premutation allele of FMR1 out of 153 sporadic POI women(0.7%). Conclusions: The frequent FMR1 premutation in Caucasian individuals with POI may not be a common genetic cause of sporadic POI in the Han Chinese population.

A Fibonacci View on the Galois NFSR Used in Trivium

Trivium is an international standard of lightweight stream ciphers(ISO/IEC 29192-3:2012).In this paper,the Trivium-like NFSRs,a class of Galois NFSRs generalized from the Galois NFSR of Trivium,are studied from the perspective of Fibonacci NFSRs.It is shown that an n-stage Trivium-like NFSR cannot be equivalent to an n-stage Fibonacci NFSR,which is proved by showing the existence of“collision initial states”.As an intermediate conclusion,a necessary and sufficient condition for a kind of linear degeneracy of a Trivium-like NFSR is obtained from the persepective of interleaved sequences.Moreover,the smallest stage number of a Fibonacci NFSR that can generate all the output sequences of an n-stage Trivium-like NFSR is shown to be greater than n-7 and this value is no less than 371=287+min{93,84,111}specifically for the 288-stage Galois NFSR used in Trivium.These results contradict the existence of a equivalent Fibonacci model of Trivium NFSR of small stage,which implies that Trivium algorithm possesses a fair degree of immunity against“structure attack”.

Adaptive fault-tolerant control for non-minimum phase hypersonic vehicles based on adaptive dynamic programming

In this paper,a novel adaptive Fault-Tolerant Control(FTC)strategy is proposed for non-minimum phase Hypersonic Vehicles(HSVs)that are affected by actuator faults and parameter uncertainties.The strategy is based on the output redefinition method and Adaptive Dynamic Programming(ADP).The intelligent FTC scheme consists of two main parts:a basic fault-tolerant and stable controller and an ADP-based supplementary controller.In the basic FTC part,an output redefinition approach is designed to make zero-dynamics stable with respect to the new output.Then,Ideal Internal Dynamic(IID)is obtained using an optimal bounded inversion approach,and a tracking controller is designed for the new output to realize output tracking of the nonminimum phase HSV system.For the ADP-based compensation control part,an ActionDependent Heuristic Dynamic Programming(ADHDP)adopting an actor-critic learning structure is utilized to further optimize the tracking performance of the HSV control system.Finally,simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed FTC algorithm.

Chaotic Map-Based Authentication and Key Agreement Protocol with Low-Latency for Metasystem

With the rapid advancement in exploring perceptual interactions and digital twins,metaverse technology has emerged to transcend the constraints of space-time and reality,facilitating remote AI-based collaboration.In this dynamic metasystem environment,frequent information exchanges necessitate robust security measures,with Authentication and Key Agreement(AKA)serving as the primary line of defense to ensure communication security.However,traditional AKA protocols fall short in meeting the low-latency requirements essential for synchronous interactions within the metaverse.To address this challenge and enable nearly latency-free interactions,a novel low-latency AKA protocol based on chaotic maps is proposed.This protocol not only ensures mutual authentication of entities within the metasystem but also generates secure session keys.The security of these session keys is rigorously validated through formal proofs,formal verification,and informal proofs.When confronted with the Dolev-Yao(DY)threat model,the session keys are formally demonstrated to be secure under the Real-or-Random(ROR)model.The proposed protocol is further validated through simulations conducted using VMware workstation compiled in HLPSL language and C language.The simulation results affirm the protocol’s effectiveness in resisting well-known attacks while achieving the desired low latency for optimal metaverse interactions.

Single-particle spectroscopies of p-wave and d-wave interacting Bose gases in normal phase

Motivated by experiments with interacting quantum gases across high partial wave resonance,we investigate the thermodynamic properties and single-particle spectra of Bose gases in normal phase for different interaction strengths for both p-and d-wave interactions.The equation of state,contact density,momentum distributions and self-energies of single-particle Green’s functions are obtained in the spirit of ladder diagram approximations.The radio-frequency(RF)spectrum,as an important experimental approach for detecting Feshbach molecules or the interaction effect,is calculated at different temperatures.A reversed temperature dependence on the Bose–Einstein condensation side and Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer side is identified for both p-and d-wave interactions.An estimate for the signal of RF spectra under typical experimental conditions is also provided.

Extensive prediction of drug response in mutation-subtype-specific LUAD with machine learning approach

Lung cancer is the most prevalent cancer diagnosis and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide.Therapeutic failure in lung cancer(LUAD)is heavily influenced by drug resistance.This challenge stems from the diverse cell populations within the tumor,each having unique genetic,epigenetic,and phenotypic profiles.Such variations lead to varied therapeutic responses,thereby contributing to tumor relapse and disease progression.Methods:The Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer(GDSC)database was used in this investigation to obtain the mRNA expression dataset,genomic mutation profile,and drug sensitivity information of NSCLS.Machine Learning(ML)methods,including Random Forest(RF),Artificial Neurol Network(ANN),and Support Vector Machine(SVM),were used to predict the response status of each compound based on the mRNA and mutation characteristics determined using statistical methods.The most suitable method for each drug was proposed by comparing the prediction accuracy of different ML methods,and the selected mRNA and mutation characteristics were identified as molecular features for the drug-responsive cancer subtype.Finally,the prognostic influence of molecular features on the mutational subtype of LUAD in publicly available datasets.Results:Our analyses yielded 1,564 gene features and 45 mutational features for 46 drugs.Applying the ML approach to predict the drug response for each medication revealed an upstanding performance for SVM in predicting Afuresertib drug response(area under the curve[AUC]0.875)using CIT,GAS2L3,STAG3L3,ATP2B4-mut,and IL15RA-mut as molecular features.Furthermore,the ANN algorithm using 9 mRNA characteristics demonstrated the highest prediction performance(AUC 0.780)in Gefitinib with CCL23-mut.Conclusion:This work extensively investigated the mRNA and mutation signatures associated with drug response in LUAD using a machine-learning approach and proposed a priority algorithm to predict drug response for different drugs.
