Nanostructured AlFeO_(3) thin films as a novel photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting

The earth-abundant and robust aluminum ferrite,AlFeO_(3)(AFO),is mainly studied in the context of ferroelectrics.Herein,we demonstrate that AFO can be used as a stable solar absorber in photoelectrochemical cells for solar water splitting,exhibiting attractive performance.This is the first report on the photoelectrochemical activity of AFO.AFO thin-film photoelectrodes prepared by solution-processing methods are composed of vertically oriented thin nanosheets,featuring the rhombohedral symmetry(R3c)and n-type conductivity.The as-prepared AFO photoanodes generate a photocurrent density of+0.78 mA·cm^(-2) at 1.23 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE)with the photocurrent _(onset) potential(U_(onset))close to the flat band potential of 0.5 V vs.RHE in the presence of hole scavengers.Remarkably,the U_(onset) of AFO for solar water splitting coincides with the flat band potential as well,which is rare in n-type inorganic absorbers.We also report other properties of AFO associated with photoelectrochemical performance.AFO films exhibit a band gap energy of 2.31 eV and positive band edges with low dispersion.Moreover,the carrier lifetimes in AFO films are up to millisecond timescales under the mediation of defect traps.Based on the photoelectrochemical behavior and optoelectronic properties,we believe that AFO has great potential for application in photoelectrochemical cells.

Catalytic cracking oil slurry is a by-product of catalytic cracking projects,and the efficient conversion and sustainable utilization of this material are issues of continuous concern in the petroleum refining industry.In this study,oxygen-enriched activated carbon is prepared using a one-step KOH activation method with catalytic cracking oil slurry as the raw material.The as-prepared oil slurry-based activated carbon exhibits a high specific surface area of 2102 m^(2)/g,welldefined micropores with an average diameter of 2 nm,and a rich oxygen doping content of 32.97%.The electrochemical performance of the nitrogen-doped porous carbon is tested in a three-electrode system using a 6 mol/L KOH solution as the electrolyte.It achieves a specific capacitance of up to 230 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g.Moreover,the capacitance retention rate exceeds 89%after 10000 charge and discharge cycles,demonstrating excellent cycle stability.This method not only improves the utilization efficiency of industrial fuel waste but also reduces the production cost of supercapacitor electrode materials,thereby providing a simple and effective strategy for the resource utilization of catalytic cracking oil slurries.

Most mechanistic details of chronologically ordered regulation of leaf senescence are unknown.Regulatory networks centered on AtWRKY53 are crucial for orchestrating and integrating various senescence-related signals.Notably,AtWRKY53binds to its own promoter and represses transcription of AtWRKY53,but the biological significance and mechanism underlying this selfrepression remain unclear.In this study,we identified the VQ motif-containing protein AtVQ25as a cooperator of AtWRKY53.The expression level of AtVQ25 peaked at mature stage and was specifically repressed after the onset of leaf senescence.AtVQ25-overexpressing plants and atvq25 mutants displayed precocious and delayed leaf senescence,respectively.Importantly,we identified AtWRKY53 as an interacting partner of AtVQ25.We determined that interaction between AtVQ25 and AtWRKY53 prevented AtWRKY53from binding to W-box elements on the AtWRKY53promoter and thus counteracted the selfrepression of AtWRKY53.In addition,our RNA-sequencing data revealed that the AtVQ25-AtWRKY53 module is related to the salicylic acid(SA)pathway.Precocious leaf senescence and SA-induced leaf senescence in AtVQ25-overexpressing lines were inhibited by an SA pathway mutant,atsid2,and Nah G transgenic plants;AtVQ25-overexpressing/atwrky53 plants were also insensitive to SA-induced leaf senescence.Collectively,we demonstrated that AtVQ25 directly attenuates the self-repression of AtWRKY53 during the onset of leaf senescence,which is substantially helpful for understanding the timing of leaf senescence onset modulated by AtWRKY53.

Cartilage development is controlled by the highly synergistic proliferation and differentiation of growth plate chondrocytes,in which the Indian hedgehog(IHH)and parathyroid hormone-related protein-parathyroid hormone-1 receptor(PTHrP-PTH1R)feedback loop is crucial.The inositol-requiring enzyme 1a/X-box-binding protein-1 spliced(IRE1α/XBP1s)branch of the unfolded protein response(UPR)is essential for normal cartilage development.However,the precise role of ER stress effector IRE1α,encoded by endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1(ERN1),in skeletal development remains unknown.Herein,we reported that loss of IRE1α accelerates chondrocyte hypertrophy and promotes endochondral bone growth.ERN1 acts as a negative regulator of chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation in postnatal growth plates.Its deficiency interrupted PTHrP/PTH1R and IHH homeostasis leading to impaired chondrocyte hypertrophy and differentiation.XBP1s,produced by p-IRE1α-mediated splicing,binds and up-regulates PTH1R and IHH,which coordinate cartilage development.Meanwhile,ER stress cannot be activated normally in ERN1-deficient chondrocytes.In conclusion,ERN1 deficiency accelerates chondrocyte hypertrophy and cartilage mineralization by impairing the homeostasis of the IHH and PTHrP/PTH1R feedback loop and ER stress.ERN1 may have a potential role as a new target for cartilage growth and maturation.

Zeolite-encapsulated metal nanoclusters are at the heart of bifunctional catalysts,which hold great potential for petrochemical conversion and the emerging sustainable biorefineries.Nevertheless,efficient encapsulation of metal nanoclusters into a high-silica zeolite Y in particular with good structural integrity still remains a significant challenge.Herein,we have constructed Ru nanoclusters(~1 nm)encapsulated inside a high-silica zeolite Y(SY)with a SiO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3) ratio(SAR)of 10 via a cooperative strategy for direct zeolite synthesis and a consecutive impregnation for metal encapsulation.Compared with the benchmark Ru/H-USY and other analogues,the as-prepared Ru/H-SY markedly boosts the yields of pentanoic biofuels and stability in the direct hydrodeoxygenation of biomass-derived levulinate even at a mild temperature of 180℃,which are attributed to the notable stabilization of transition states by the enhanced acid accessibility and properly sized constraints of zeolite cavities owing to the good structural integrity.

In this editorial,we commented on the article published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Diabetes.Diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM)is characterized by myocardial fibrosis,ventricular hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction in diabetic patients,which can cause heart failure and threaten the life of patients.The pathogenesis of DCM has not been fully clarified,and it may involve oxidative stress,inflammatory stimulation,apoptosis,and autophagy.There is lack of effective therapies for DCM in the clinical practice.Statins have been widely used in the clinical practice for years mainly to reduce cholesterol and stabilize arterial plaques,and exhibit definite cardiovascular protective effects.Studies have shown that statins also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.We were particularly concerned about the recent findings that atorvastatin alleviated myocardial fibrosis in db/db mice by regulating the antioxidant stress and antiinflammatory effects of macrophage polarization on diabetic myocardium,and thereby improving DCM.

Classification and instability mechanism of anchored "beam-arch" composite structure in rock burst roadways with top-coal

The rock burst frequently occurs in the roadways with top coal, and the roof disasters are particularly severe under dynamic stress in China. In order to explore the classification and instability mechanisms of anchoring structures in the roadways with top-coal, analog simulation experiments, theoretical analysis, and data statistics were used under the engineering background of the large-area rock burst roof failure in the Working Face 301 of a mine in Shaanxi Province, China. The dynamic load response characteristics of the stress, displacement, and surface acceleration of the surrounding rock in the roadways with top coal were analyzed. The classification characteristics of the roof anchoring structure under the influence of top coal thickness and cables were studied. The stress response mechanism of the roadways with top coal under elastic waves was explored, and the instability mechanism of the anchoring "beam arch" structure was proposed. The rock burst resistance of the air-return roadway in the Working Face 301 was evaluated, and the corresponding optimization schemes for the "beam-arch" composite structure were proposed. The results show that ① the monitoring data of stress and displacement of the surrounding rock in the roadways with top coal under dynamic stress verify the existence of internal and external beam or arch anchoring structures in the roof. Due to the increase in the thickness of top coal, there is a transition from "beam" to "arch" in the anchoring structure of the inner layer of the roof; ② based on the relative relationship between the thickness of the top coal and the cables, the roof anchoring structure is divided into "superimposed-beam and arch" for thin top coal, "composite-beam and arch" for thick top coal, and "combined arch" for extra thick top coal. Oncogenes are critical factors in tumorigenesis of diverse cancer types and play essential roles in tumor immune escape.Mutations in Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog(KRAS)and epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)are among the most frequent gain-of-function alterations[1].After many years of in-depth research,inhibitors targeting EGFR or KRAS mutations have been successfully developed,however,their clinical benefit is relatively limited,and they will inevitably encounter the challenge of drug resistance.The emergence of resistance is attributed to secondary mutations in driver genes and other complicated factors.

Objective: Few studies have explored the suitability of endometrial thickness (EMT) as a predictor of ectopic pregnancy (EP) in frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles. Our study aimed to investigate the association between EMT and EP and explore the cutoff value of EMT to predict EP.Methods: This retrospective cohort study included women aged 20-45 years undergoing FET between March 2015 and September 2021. The primary outcomes and measured variables were EP and EMT, respectively. The threshold effect of EMT on EP was calculated based on a constructed smooth curve fitting. The patients were divided into two groups based on the threshold for comparison. A subgroup analysis was conducted to examine whether the relationship between EMT and EP remained consistent across the different subgroups. Additionally, a generalized linear model was used to analyze the interactions between the treatment factors and EMT in EP.Results: In total, 27,549 FET cycles were included, with 27,086 intrauterine and 463 ectopic pregnancies. The risk of EP in the EMT ≤8.7 mm group was 3.36 times higher than that in the EMT >8.7 mm group (odds ratio [OR]: 3.36, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.57-4.05). Subgroup analysis further indicated that a thin EMT was a risk factor for EP, independent of other risks. We also noted that diminished ovarian reserve, tubal factor infertility, transfer of two embryos, or transfer of cleavage-stage embryos may further enhance the risk of EP in patients with thin endometrium.Conclusions: Thin endometrium was associated with an increased risk of EP. Patients with EMT less than 8.7 mm need close medical observation and management after embryo transfer. In addition, diminished ovarian reserve, tubal factor infertility, transfer of two embryos, or transfer of cleavage-stage embryos may significantly enhance the effect of a thin endometrium on the risk of EP.
