Serum triglycerides concentration in relation to total and cardiovascular mortality in an elderly Chinese population

OBJECTIVE To investigate serum triglycerides in relation to all-cause,cardiovascular,and non-cardiovascular mortality in an elderly Chinese *** The study participants(n=3565)were elderly(≥60 years)community dwellers living in a suburban town of *** was defined as a serum triglycerides concentration≥2.30 mmol/L(definite)and≥1.70 mmol/L(borderline),*** The prevalence of definite and borderline hypertriglyceridemia at baseline was 7.5%and 29.5%,*** was higher in women(n=1982,9.0%and 33.8%,respectively)than men(n=1583,6.2%and 27.9%,respectively),in obese and over-weight participants(n=1566,10.5%and 36.4%,respectively)than normal weight participants(n=1999,5.6%and 27.1%,respect-ively),and in diabetic participants(n=177,11.9%and 39.0%,respectively)than non-diabetic participants(n=3388,7.5%and 30.8%,respectively).During a median of 7.9 years follow-up,all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular deaths occurred in 529,216 and 313 participants,*** analyses according to the quintile distributions of serum triglycerides concentration,the sex-and age-standardized mortality rate was lowest in the middle quintile for all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascu-lar mortality(18.6,7.8 and 11.9 per 1000 person-years,respectively,versus 21.5,10.5 and 12.7 per 1000 person-years,respectively,in the two lower quintiles and 21.7,9.5 and 14.0 per 1000 person-years,respectively,in the two higher quintiles).The fully adjus-ted hazard ratios(95%CI)for the middle quintile versus the combined two lower with two higher quintiles were 0.85(95%CI:0.67-1.07,P=0.17),0.81(95%CI:0.54-1.19,P=0.28)and 0.87(95%CI:0.64-1.17,P=0.35)for all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality,*** Our study showed high prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia,especially when defined as borderline and in obese and overweight participants,and mildly but non-significantly elevated risks of cardiovascular mort

Current and recent cigarette smoking in relation to cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality in an elderly male Chinese population

OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between current and former smoking and the risk of mortality in elderly Chinese *** Our study participants were elderly(≥60 years)men recruited in a suburban town of *** smoking status was categorized as never smoking,remote(cessation>5 years)and recent former smoking(cessation≤5 years),and light-to-moderate(≤20 cigarettes/day)and heavy current smoking(>20 cigarettes/day).Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic splines were used to examine the associations of *** The 1568 participants had a mean age of 68.6±7.1 *** all participants,311 were never smokers,201 were remote former smokers,133 were recent former smokers,783 were light-to-moderate current smokers and 140 were heavy current *** a median follow-up of 7.9 years,all-cause,cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular deaths occurred in 267,106 and 161 participants,*** current smokers had the highest risk of all-cause and non-cardiovascular mortality,with an adjusted hazard ratio(HR)of 2.30(95%CI:1.34-4.07)and 3.98(95%CI:2.03-7.83)versus never smokers,*** former smokers also had a higher risk of all-cause(HR=1.62,95%CI:1.04-2.52)and non-cardiovascular mortality(HR=2.40,95%CI:1.32-4.37)than never *** regression restricted cubic spline models showed the highest risk of all-cause and non-cardiovascular mortality within 5 years of smoking cessation and decline *** subgroup analyses showed interaction between smoking status and pulse rate(≥70 beats/min vs.<70 beats/min)in relation to the risk of all-cause and non-cardiovascular mortality,with a higher risk in current versus never smokers in those participants with a pulse rate below 70 beats/*** Cigarette smoking in elderly Chinese confers significant risks of mortality,especially when recent former smoking is considered together with current smoking.

Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking Analysis of the Mechanisms of Combined Radix Bupleuri(Chai-Hu) and Radix Paeoniae Alba(Bai-Shao) Treatment in the Prevention and Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease

Objective: Radix Bupleuri and Radix Paeoniae Alba are referred to as Chai-Hu and Bai-Shao, respectively, in Chinese. We used molecular docking and network pharmacological approaches to explore the active components of this Chinese herb combination which is commonly used for treating Alzheimer's disease(AD), the Chai-Hu and Bai-Shao pair(CBP). Materials and Methods: The active compounds and action targets of Chai-Hu and Bai-Shao were identified in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database, and the Therapeutic Target Database, Drug Bank, Gen Cards, Dis Ge NET, and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man databases were used to identify therapeutic targets in patients with AD. To identify a common target of CBP in the treatment of AD, we used the Metascape tool to perform Gene Ontology function enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses. In addition, CBP-AD protein–protein interaction(PPI) and herb-component-target networks were created using Cytoscape 3.8.2. Molecular docking was verified using Auto Dock tools. Results: We identified 20 active compounds of CBP, 202 active targets, 1,323 disease targets, and 117 active compound disease intersection targets;the PPI network showed that the top eight key targets were AKT1, interleukin(IL) 6, JUN, MAPK1, tumor necrosis factor, TP53, vascular endothelial growth factor, and epidermal growth factor. These act mainly on the fluid shear stress, atherosclerosis, IL-17, hypoxia-inducible factor-1, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease pathways, among others, which control immune inflammation, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. Based on molecular docking results, the active components of CBP bind well to its key targets. Conclusion: Our results indicated that CBP was effective for treating AD by reducing the expression of inflammatory factors, promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, and preventing nerve cell death and anti-neuronal cell apoptosis.

Cosmological Constraints on Neutrino Masses in Light of JWST Red and Massive Candidate Galaxies

The overabundance of the red and massive candidate galaxies observed by the James Webb Space Telescope(JWST)implies efficient structure formation or large star formation efficiency at high redshift z~*** the scenario of a low or moderate star formation efficiency,because massive neutrinos tend to suppress the growth of structure of the universe,the JWST observation tightens the upper bound of the neutrino *** A cold dark matter cosmology and a star formation efficiency∈[0.05,0.3](flat prior),we perform joint analyses of Planck+JWST and Planck+BAO+JWST,and obtain improved constraints∑m_(ν)<0.196 eV and ∑m_(ν)+<0.111 eV at 95% confidence level,*** on the above assumptions,the inverted mass ordering,which implies ∑m_(ν)≥0.1 eV,is excluded by Planck+BAO+JWST at 92.7% confidence level.

Let G be a finite group generated by S and C(G,S) the Cayley digraphs of G with connection set *** this paper,we give some sufficient conditions for the existence of hamiltonian circuit in C(G,S),where G=Zm×H is a semiproduct of Zmby a subgroup H of *** particular,if m is a prime,then the Cayley digraph of G has a hamiltonian circuit unless G=Zm×*** addition,we introduce a new digraph operation,called φ-semiproduct of Γ1by Γ2and denoted by Γ1×Γ_φΓ2,in terms of mapping φ:V(Γ2)→{1,-1}.Furthermore we prove that C(Zm,{a})×_φ C(H,S) is also a Cayley digraph if φ is a homomorphism from H to{1,-1} ≤ Zm~*,which produces some classes of Cayley digraphs that have hamiltonian circuits.

Adaptive Algorithms on Maximizing Monotone Nonsubmodular Functions

Submodular optimization is widely used in large *** order to speed up the problems solving,it is essential to design low-adaptive algorithms to achieve acceleration in *** general,the function values are given by a value oracle,but in practice,the oracle queries may consume a lot of ***,how to strike a balance between optimizing them is *** this paper,we focus on maximizing a normalized and strictly monotone set function with the diminishing-return ratio under a cardinality constraint,and propose two algorithms to deal with *** apply the adaptive sequencing technique to devise the first algorithm,whose approximation ratio is arbitrarily close to 1-e^(-γ)in O(logn·log(log(k\γ))adaptive rounds,and requires O(logn^(2)·log(log(k\γ))*** by adding preprocessing and parameter estimation steps to the first algorithm,we get the second *** second algorithm trades a small sacrifice in adaptive complexity for a significant improvement in query *** the same approximation and adaptive complexity,the query complexity is improved *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first paper of designing adaptive algorithms for maximizing a monotone function using the diminishing-return ratio.

Obesity is associated with gut dysbiosis and metabolic *** tea extract(JSTE)reduced fat accumulation and body weight in obese ***,the effects and mechanism of JSTE in preventing obesity were ***,we used different doses of JSTE(75,150 and 300 mg/(kg·day))to evaluate the effect on high-fat diet(HFD)-induced rats under 8 weeks of ***,our results showed that JSTE could significantly reduce body weight gain,blood lipid levels and fat accumulation,improve fatty damage in liver tissue(P<0.05).In addition,JSTE increased the expression of intestinal tight junction proteins(P<0.05),relieved metabolic endotoxemia(P<0.05)and chronic low-grade inflammation in HFD *** of fecal samples showed that JSTE could effectively reverse the microbial diversity and the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes to normal levels in HFD-fed *** and Erysipelotrichaceae,which are positively related to obesity,were decreased by JSTE intervention(P<0.05).while Bifidobacteriaceae,Bacteroidaceae,Akkermansia,and Clostridium,which are negatively related to obesity,were ***,these results suggested that JSTE might effectively prevent obesity by modulating gut microbiota dysbiosis,intestinal barrier dysfunction,metabolic endotoxemia and chronic low-grade infl ammation in HFD-induced rats.

This paper presents a numerical study to improve the understanding of the complex subject of penetration and perforation of concrete targets impacted by low-velocity *** main focus is on the damage mechanisms and the major factors that account for the target resistance of the *** improved continuous surface cap model recently proposed was *** model was first equipped with element erosion criteria and was adequately validated by comparisons with ballistic *** numerical simulations were carried out where the individual influence of tensile,shear,and volumetric behaviors(pore collapse)of a concrete target on its ballistic performance was *** demonstrated that cratering on the front face and scabbing on the rear face of the concrete target were mainly dominated by its tensile *** major target resistance came from the second tunneling stage which was primarily governed by the shear and volumetric behaviors of the ***,this study captured the pore collapse-induced damage phenomenon during the high-pressure tunneling stage,which has been extensively reported in experiments but has usually been neglected in previous numerical investigations.

Dynamic interwell connectivity analysis of multi-layer waterflooding reservoirs based on an improved graph neural network

The analysis of interwell connectivity plays an important role in the formulation of oilfield development plans and the description of residual oil distribution. In fact, sandstone reservoirs in China's onshore oilfields generally have the characteristics of thin and many layers, so multi-layer joint production is usually adopted. It remains a challenge to ensure the accuracy of splitting and dynamic connectivity in each layer of the injection-production wells with limited field data. The three-dimensional well pattern of multi-layer reservoir and the relationship between injection-production wells can be equivalent to a directional heterogeneous graph. In this paper, an improved graph neural network is proposed to construct an interacting process mimics the real interwell flow regularity. In detail, this method is used to split injection and production rates by combining permeability, porosity and effective thickness, and to invert the dynamic connectivity in each layer of the injection-production wells by attention *** on the material balance and physical information, the overall connectivity from the injection wells,through the water injection layers to the production layers and the output of final production wells is established. Meanwhile, the change of well pattern caused by perforation, plugging and switching of wells at different times is achieved by updated graph structure in spatial and temporal ways. The effectiveness of the method is verified by a combination of reservoir numerical simulation examples and field example. The method corresponds to the actual situation of the reservoir, has wide adaptability and low cost, has good practical value, and provides a reference for adjusting the injection-production relationship of the reservoir and the development of the remaining oil.

Quantifying the Tension between Cosmological Models and JWST Red Candidate Massive Galaxies
