Airblast evolution initiated by Wangjiayan landslides in the M_(s)8.0 Wenchuan earthquake and its destructive capacity analysis

Airblasts,as one common phenomenon accompanied by rapid movements of landslides or rock/snow avalanches,commonly result in catastrophic damages and are attracting more and more scientific attention.To quantitatively analyze the intensity of airblast initiated by landslides,the Wangjiayan landslide,occurred in the Wenchuan earthquake,is selected here with the landslide propagation and airblast evolution being studied using FLUENT by introducing the Voellmy rheological law.The results reveal that:(1)For the Wangjiayan landslide,its whole travelling duration is only 12 s with its maximum velocity reaching 36 m/s at t=10 s;(2)corresponding to the landslide propagation,the maximum velocity,28 m/s,of the airblast initiated by the landslide also appears at t=10 s with its maximum pressure reaching594.8 Pa,which is equivalent to violent storm;(3)under the attack of airblast,the load suffered by buildings in the airblast zone increases to 1300 Pa at t=9.4 s and sharply decreased to-7000 Pa as the rapid decrease of the velocity of the sliding mass at t=10 s,which is seriously unfavorable for buildings and might be the key reason for the destructive collapse of buildings in the airblast zone of the Wangjiayan landslide.

Background Chinese indigenous pigs are popular with consumers for their juiciness,flavour and meat quality,but they have lower meat production.Insulin-like growth factor 2(IGF2) is a maternally imprinted growth factor that promotes skeletal muscle growth by regulating cell proliferation and differentiation.A single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) within intron 3 of porcine IGF2 disrupts a binding site for the repressor,zinc finger BED-type containing 6(ZBED6),leading to up-regulation of IGF2 and causing major effects on muscle growth,heart size,and backfat thickness.This favorable mutation is common in Western commercial pig populations,but absent in most Chinese indigenous pig breeds.To improve meat production of Chinese indigenous pigs,we used cytosine base editor 3(CBE3)to introduce IGF2 intron3-C3071T mutation into porcine embryonic fibroblasts(PEFs) isolated from a male Liang Guang Small Spotted pig(LGSS),and single-cell clones harboring the desired mutation were selected for somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) to generate the founder line of IGF2^(T/T) pigs.Results We found the heterozygous progeny IGF2^(C/T) pigs exhibited enhanced expression of IGF2,increased lean meat by 18%-36%,enlarged loin muscle area by 3%-17%,improved intramuscular fat(IMF) content by 18%-39%,marbling score by 0.75-1,meat color score by 0.53-1.25,and reduced backfat thickness by 5%-16%.The enhanced accumulation of intramuscular fat in IGF2^(C/T) pigs was identified to be regulated by the PI3K-AKT/AMPK pathway,which activated SREBP1 to promote adipogenesis.Conclusions We demonstrated the introduction of IGF2-intron3-C3071T in Chinese LGSS can improve both meat production and quality,and first identified the regulation of IMF deposition by IGF2 through SREBP1 via the PI3KAKT/AMPK signaling pathways.Our study provides a further understanding of the biological functions of IGF2and an example for improving porcine economic traits through precise base editing.

Controllable design of the catalytic electrodes with hierarchical superstructures is expected to improve their electrochemical performance.Herein,a self-supported integrated electrode(NiCo-ZLDH/NF)with a unique hierarchical quaternary superstructure was fabricated through a self-sacrificing template strategy from the metal–organic framework(Co-ZIF-67)nanoplate arrays,which features an intriguing well-defined hierarchy when taking the unit cells of the NiCo-based layered double hydroxide(NiCo-LDH)as the primary structure,the ultrathin LDH nanoneedles as the secondary structure,the mesoscale hollow plates of the LDH nanoneedle arrays as the tertiary structure,and the macroscale three-dimensional frames of the plate arrays as the quaternary structure.Notably,the distinctive structure of NiCo-ZLDH/NF can not only accelerate both mass and charge transfer,but also expose plentiful accessible active sites with high intrinsic activity,endowing it with an excellent electrochemical performance for urea oxidation reaction(UOR).Specially,it only required the low potentials of 1.335,1.368 and 1.388 V to deliver the current densities of 10,100 and 200 mA cm^(-2),respectively,much superior to those for typical NiCo-LDH.Employing NiCo-ZLDH/NF as the bifunctional electrode for both anodic UOR and cathodic HER,an energy-saving electrolysis system was further explored which can greatly reduce the needed voltage of 213 mV to deliver the current density of 100 mA cm^(-2),as compared to the conventional water electrolysis system composed of OER.This work manifests that it is prospective to explore the hierarchically nanostructured electrodes and the innovative electrolytic technologies for high-efficiency electrocatalysis.

To accommodate the tremendous increase of mobile data traffic,cache-enabled device-to-device(D2D)communication has been taken as a promising technique to release the heavy burden of cellular networks since popular contents can be pre-fetched at user devices and shared among subscribers.As a result,cellular traffic can be offloaded and an enhanced system performance can be attainable.However,due to the limited cache capacity of mobile devices and the heterogeneous preferences among different users,the requested contents are most likely not be proactively cached,inducing lower cache hit ratio.Recommendation system,on the other hand,is able to reshape users’request schema,mitigating the heterogeneity to some extent,and hence it can boost the gain of edge caching.In this paper,the cost minimization problem for the social-aware cache-enabled D2D networks with recommendation consideration is investigated,taking into account the constraints on the cache capacity budget and the total number of recommended files per user,in which the contents are sharing between the users that trust each other.The minimization problem is an integer non-convex and non-linear programming,which is in general NP-hard.Therewith,we propose a timeefficient joint recommendation and caching decision scheme.Extensive simulation results show that the proposed scheme converges quickly and significantly reduces the average cost when compared with various benchmark strategies.

In order to explore the impact of circadian disturbance on erectile function,we randomly divided 24 adult male rats into groups of control(light on at 8:00 a.***.and off at 8:00 p.m.),dark/dark(DD;constant dark),light/light(LL;constant light),and shift dark/light(DL;light off at 8:00 a.***.and on at 8:0o p.m.).Four weeks later,erectile function was measured and corpora cavernosa were harvested for analysis.The maximum intracavernous pressure(mlcP)and mCP/mean arterial pressure(MAP)ratio in the DD,LL,and DL groups were significantly lower than that in the control group.The LL and DL groups showed significantly attenuated endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS),while DD,LL,and DL showed reduced neuronal nitric oxide synthase(nNOS)at both mRNA and protein levels.The production of nitric oxide(NO)and cyclic guanosinemonophosphate(cGMP)was inhibited by altered light/dark cycles to varying degrees.Circadian disturbance impaired endothelial function and contributed to erectile dysfunction.For the core circadian elements,mRNA expression of circadian locomotor output cycles kaput(Clock)and brain/muscle aryl-hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator-like protein 1(Bmal1)was elevated in the DL group,but their protein expression was not significantly changed.DD,LL,and DL increased period 1(Per1)and Per3 levels,while LL and DL increased PER1 levels.No significant difference was found for Per2levels,and PER2 and PER3 concentrations were not significantly changed.Moreover,LL and DL significantly increased cryptochrome-1(CRY1)and CRY2 at both mRNA and protein levels.The altered light/dark rat model showed that circadian disturbance contributed to erectile dysfunction probably by impairing endothelial function.Meanwhile,the core circadian elements were detected in the corpora cavernosa,but these were disrupted.However,which circadian element regulates erectile function and how it works need further analysis.

Background Brain network describing interconnections between brain regions contains abundant topological information.It is a challenge for the existing statistical methods(e.g.,t test)to investigate the topological differences of brain networks.Methods We proposed a kernel based statistic framework for identifying topological differences in brain networks.In our framework,the topological similarities between paired brain networks were measured by graph kernels.Then,graph kernels are embedded into maximum mean discrepancy for calculating kernel based test statistic.Based on this test statistic,we adopted conditional Monte Carlo simulation to compute the statistical significance(i.e.,P value)and statistical power.We recruited 33 patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD),33 patients with early mild cognitive impairment(EMCI),33 patients with late mild cognitive impairment(LMCI)and 33 normal controls(NC)in our experiment.There are no statistical differences in demographic information between patients and NC.The compared state-of-the-art statistical methods include t test,t squared test,two-sample permutation test and non-normal test.Results We applied the proposed shortest path matched kernel to our framework for investigating the statistical differences of shortest path topological structures in brain networks of AD and NC.We compared our method with the existing state-of-the-art statistical methods in brain network characteristic including clustering coefficient and functional connection among EMCI,LMCI,AD,and NC.The results indicate that our framework can capture the statistically discriminative shortest path topological structures,such as shortest path from right rolandic operculum to right supplementary motor area(P=0.00314,statistical power=0.803).In clustering coefficient and functional connection,our framework outperforms the state-of-the-art statistical methods,such as P=0.0013 and statistical power=0.83 in the analysis of AD and NC.Conclusion Our proposed kernel based statistic framework not only can be used to

The optical rotation technique arose in the 1990 s.Optical tweezer brought an ideal platform for research on the angular momentum of laser beams.For decades,the optical rotation technique has been widely applied in laboratory optical manipulation and the fields of biology and optofluidics.Recently,it has attracted much attention for its potential in the classical and quantum regimes.In this work,we review the progress of experiments and applications of optically induced rotation.First,we introduce the basic exploration of angular momentum.Then,we cover the development and application of optical rotation induced by orbital angular momentum,and the spin angular momentum is presented.Finally,we elaborate on recent applications of the optical rotation technique in high vacuum.As precise optical manipulation in a liquid medium enters its maturity,optical tweezers in high vacuum open a new path for the high-speed micro-rotor.

Grain boundary(GB)mediated deformation is a vital contributor to the plasticity of polycrystalline materials,where the disconnection model has become a widely recognized approach to depict the GB dynamics.However,experimental understanding of the atomistic disconnection dynamics remains scarce.In this case study of gold nanocrystals,atomistic disconnection dynamics governing the shear-coupled migration of flat GBs have been systematically investigated via in situ transmission electron microscopy nanomechanical testing supported by molecular dynamics simulations.Specifically,the site-dependent nucleation,shear-driven propagation,and diverse interactions associated with distinct GB disconnections are systematically elucidated and quantitatively compared.Moreover,the disconnection-mediated GB plasticity proves to prevail among different tilt and mixed GBs in gold.Eventually,a conceptual map of disconnection-mediated GB dynamics is established,which would furnish a unified understanding of GB plasticity in metallic materials.

Polygonatum sibiricum is a traditional medicinal and dietary plant of the family Liliaceae. The main functional macromolecules of P. sibiricum are polysaccharides, which function in antioxidation and regulating immunity. Previous studies have shown that insulin resistance(IR), oxidative stress, and inflammation are important factors in the induction of lipid metabolic diseases such as obesity. Therefore, in this study, we established a high-fat diet-induced rat model of obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) to explore the potential protective effect of P. sibiricum polysaccharides(PSPs) and the mechanisms behind it. After 4 weeks of high-fat diet feeding to induce obesity, the rats were treated with different doses of PSP solution or distilled water for 6 weeks. Compared with untreated obese rats, PSP-treated obese rats showed a decrease in body weight, serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, hepatic aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activity, hepatic malondialdehyde content, and hepatic levels of the pro-inflammatory factors tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, and interleukin-6, as well as increased serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and hepatic superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase activity. Pathological analysis and immunoblotting of the liver tissues indicated that mechanistically, PSPs reduced obesity and NAFLD in rats by upregulating insulin receptor expression, increasing adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase phosphorylation, and downregulating sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 and low-density lipoprotein receptor expression, thus promoting lipid metabolism, decreasing body weight, and reducing inflammation and oxidative stress caused by lipid accumulation. Based on these results, PSPs may have the potential to reduce obesity and NAFLD associated with a high-fat diet.
