Activation tagging identifies WRKY14 as a repressor of plant thermomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis

Increases in recorded high temperatures around the world are causing plant thermomorphogenesis and decreasing crop *** INTERACTING FACTOR 4(PIF4)is a central positive regulator of plant ***,the molecular mechanisms underlying PIF4-regulated thermomorphogenesis remain largely *** this study,we identified ABNORMAL THERMOMORPHOGENESIS 1(ABT1)as an important negative regulator of PIF4 and plant *** of ABT1 in the activation tagging mutant abt1-D caused shorter hypocotyls and petioles under moderately high temperature(HT).ABT1 encodes WRKY14,which belongs to subgroup II of the WRKY transcription *** of ABT1/WRKY14 or its close homologs,including ABT2/WRKY35,ABT3/WRKY65,and ABT4/WRKY69in transgenic plants caused insensitivity to HT,whereas the quadruple mutant abt1 abt2 abt3 abt4 exhibited greater sensitivity to *** were expressed in hypocotyls,cotyledons,shoot apical meristems,and leaves,but their expression were suppressed by *** assays showed that ABT1 can interact with TCP5,a known positive regulator of PIF4,and interrupt the formation of the TCP5-PIF4 complex and repress its transcriptional activation *** analysis showed that ABT1 functioned antagonistically with TCP5,BZR1,and PIF4 in plant *** together,our results identify ABT1/WRKY14 as a critical repressor of plant thermomorphogenesis and suggest that ABT1/WRKY14,TCP5,and PIF4 may form a sophisticated regulatory module to fine-tune PIF4 activity and temperature-dependent plant growth.

Conductive phthalocyanine-based metal-organic framework as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for carbon dioxide reduction reaction

Porous crystalline metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)are one class of promising electrode materials for CO_(2)electroreduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)by virtue of their large CO_(2)adsorption capacities and abundant tunable active sites,but their insulating nature usually leads to low current ***,a two-dimensional(2D)Ni-phthalocyanine-based MOF(NiPc-Ni(NH)4)constructed by 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octaaminophthalocyaninato nickel(II)(NiPc-(NH_(2))_(8))and nickel(II)ions attained high electrical conductivity due to the high overlap of d-πconjugation orbitals between the nickel node and the Ni-phthalocyanine-substituted *** CO_(2)RR,the NiPc-Ni(NH)4 nanosheets achieved a high CO Faradaic efficiency of 96.4%at−0.7 V and a large CO partial current density of 24.8 mA cm^(−2)at−1.1 V,which surpassed all the reported two-dimensional MOF electrocatalysts evaluated in an *** control experiments and density functional theory(DFT)calculations suggested that the Ni-N_(4)units of the phthalocyanine ring are the catalytic active *** work provides a new route to the design of highly efficient porous framework materials for the enhanced electrocatalysis via improving electrical conductivity.

Despite continual progress in the technologies and regimens for cancer therapy,the treatment outcome of fatal metastatic breast cancer is far from ***,nanotechnology has emerged as a valuable tool to optimize drug delivery process in cancer therapy via preventing the cargos from degradation,improving the tumor-targeting efficiency,enhancing therapeutic agents’retention in specific sites,and controlling drug *** the last decade,several mechanisms of suppressing tumor metastasis by functional nano drug delivery systems(NDDSs)have been revealed and a guidance for the rational design of anti-metastasis NDDSs is summarized,which consist of three aspects:optimization of physiochemical properties,tumor microenvironment remodeling,and biomimetic strategies.A series of medicinal functional biomaterials and anti-metastatic breast cancer NDDSs constructed by our team are introduced in this *** is hoped that better anti-metastasis strategies can be inspired and applied in clinic.

A facile and environmentally-friendly method is developed to prepare graphene/waterborne epoxy(WEP)composite *** graphene nanosheets are produced with electrochemical-exfoliation in the solution containing surfactants,cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB)and sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS).The nanosheets containing solution thus formed are subjected to a quick dialysis and then directly used as a diluent for WEP without any further *** preparation method overcomes the commonly identified problems of aggregations and‘corrosion promotion’effect associated with graphene,and increases the impedance of the composite coatings by more than two orders of *** analysis of anticorrosion performance suggested that the presence of surfactants not only improves the dispersibility of graphene nanosheets but also endows the composite coatings with both barrier and corrosion inhibition *** strategy reported herein may pave the path to the large-scale production of graphene anticorrosion coatings.

With the breakthrough of AlphaGo,human-computer gaming AI has ushered in a big explosion,attracting more and more researchers all over the *** a recognized standard for testing artificial intelligence,various human-computer gaming AI systems(AIs)have been developed,such as Libratus,OpenAI Five,and AlphaStar,which beat professional human *** rapid development of human-computer gaming AIs indicates a big step for decision-making intelligence,and it seems that current techniques can handle very complex human-computer ***,one natural question arises:What are the possible challenges of current techniques in human-computer gaming and what are the future trends?To answer the above question,in this paper,we survey recent successful game AIs,covering board game AIs,card game AIs,first-person shooting game AIs,and real-time strategy game *** this survey,we 1)compare the main difficulties among different kinds of games and the corresponding techniques utilized for achieving professional human-level AIs;2)summarize the mainstream frameworks and techniques that can be properly relied on for developing AIs for complex human-computer games;3)raise the challenges or drawbacks of current techniques in the successful AIs;and 4)try to point out future trends in human-computer gaming ***,we hope that this brief review can provide an introduction for beginners and inspire insight for researchers in the field of AI in human-computer gaming.

Effects of Earthworms and Ryegrass on the Removal of Fluoranthene from Soil

Earthworms can promote the bioremediation of contaminated soils through enhancing plant growth and microorganism development. The individual and combined effects of earthworms and ryegrass （Lolium multifloram Lain.） on the removM of fiuoranthene from a sandy-loam alluvial soil were investigated in a 70-d microcosm experiment. The experiment was set up in a complete factorial design with treatments in four replicates： without earthworms or ryegrass （control, CK）, with earthworms only （E）, with ryegrass only （P）, and with both earthworms and ryegrass （EP）. The residual fluoranthene, microbial biomass C, and polyphenol oxidase activity in the soil changed significantly （P 〈 0.01） with time. In general, the residual concentration of fluoranthene in the soil decreased sharply from 71.8-88.7 to 31.7-37.4 mg kg-1 in 14 d, and then decreased gradually to 19.7-30.5 mg kg-1 on the 70th d. The flu- oranthene concentration left in the soil was the least with both earthworms and ryegrass, compared to the other treatments at the end of the experiment. Half-life times of fluoranthene in the E, P, and EP treatments were 17.8%-36.3% smaller than that of CK. More fluoranthene was absorbed by earthworms than ryegrass. However, the total amounts of fluoranthene accumulated in both the ryegrass and earthworms were small, only accounting for 0.01%-1.20% of the lost fluoranthene. Therefore, we assumed that microbial degradation would play a dominant functional role in fluoranthene removal from soil. We found that earthworms significantly increased microbial biomass C and polyphenol oxidase activity （P 〈 0.01） in the presence of ryegrass at the end of the experiment. Furthermore, microbial biomass C and polyphenol oxidase activity were significantly （P 〈 0.05） and negatively related to the residual fluoranthene concentration. This implied that earthworms might promote the removal of fluoranthene from soil via stimulating microbial biomass C and polyphenol oxidase activity.

Folate levels in mucosal tissue but not methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase polymorphisms are associated with gastric carcinogenesis

AIM: To evaluate whether folate levels in mucosal tissue and some common methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) variants are associated with the risk of gastric cancer through DNA methylation. METHODS: Real-time PCR was used to study the expression of tumor related genes in 76 mucosal tissue samples from 38 patients with gastric cancer. Samples from the gastroscopic biopsy tissues of 34 patients with chronic superficial gastritis (CSG) were used as controls. Folate concentrations in these tissues were detected by the FOL ACS: 180 automated chemiluminescence system. MTHFR polymorphisms were analyzed by PCR-RFLP, and the promoter methylation of tumor-related genes was determined by methylation-specific PCR (MSP). RESULTS: Folate concentrations were significantly higher in CSG than in cancerous tissues. Decreased expression and methylation of c-myc accompanied higher folate concentrations. Promoter hypermethylation and loss of p16INK4A in samples with MTHFR 677CC were more frequent than in samples with the 677TT or 677CT genotype. And the promoter hypermethylation and loss of p21WAF1 in samples with MTHFR 677CT were more frequent than when 677CC or 677TT was present. The 677CT genotype showed a non-significant higher risk for gastric cancer as compared with the 677CC genotype. CONCLUSION: Lower folate levels in gastric mucosal tissue may confer a higher risk of gastric carcinogenesisthrough hypomethylation and overexpression of c-myc.

A quantum network is a promising quantum many-body system because of its tailored geometry and controllable interaction. Here,we propose an external control scheme for the qubit-photon interaction and multiqubit reset in a dissipative quantum network,which comprises superconducting circuit chains with microwave drives and filter-filter couplings. The traditional multiqubit reset of the quantum network requires physically disconnected qubits to prevent their entanglement. However, we use an original effect of dissipation, i.e., consuming the entanglement generated by qubits’ interaction, to achieve an external control of the multiqubit reset in an always-connected superconducting circuit. The reset time is independent of the number of qubits in the quantum network. Our proposal can tolerate considerable fluctuations in the system parameters and can be applicable to higherdimensional quantum networks.

Catalytic Film and Selective Oxidation of Iso-butylene

A kind of heteropoly compound film supported on Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 oxide was prepared on a porous titanium tube. The catalytic activity of the film for the selective oxidation of iso-butylene was tested and compared with the fixed-bed reactor. Results show that the catalytic film increases the yield of the target product-methacrylic acid, and avoids the temperature fluctuation caused by the reaction heat.
