Visual experimental study of nanofluids application to promote CO_(2) absorption in a bubble column

The addition of dispersed-phase nanoparticles in the liquid phase can enhance the gas-liquid transfer process as the suspended nanoparticles affect the transfer process inside the fluid through microdisturbance or micro-convection *** this article,a high-speed digital camera was used to visualize the bubble behavior of CO_(2) in pure water and nanofluids to examine the effects of CO_(2) gas flow rate,nanoparticle solid content and type on the bubble behavior in the *** CO_(2) absorption performance in three water-based nanofluids were compared in a *** the mass transfer characteristics during CO_(2) bubble absorption and the reasons for the enhanced gas-liquid mass transfer effect of nanoparticles were *** results showed that the presence of nanoparticles affected the formation process of bubbles in the fluid,shortened the bubble detachment time,reduced the detachment diameter,effectively increased the gas-liquid contact area,and improved the bubbles detachment *** system with MCM-41 corresponded to a higher overall mass transfer *** MCM-41 contained surfactant that enhanced foaming behavior in *** prevented the transfer of CO_(2) to some extent,and the CO_(2) absorption by uncalined MCM-41/H_(2)O was 5.34%higher than that by pure *** with SiO_(2) nanoparticles with the same particle size and the same composition,MCM-41 had a higher adsorption capacity and better hydrophilicity due to its larger specific surface area and rich porous structure,which was more favorable to accelerate the collision between nanoparticles and CO_(2) bubbles to cause *** the condition of 0.1%(mass)solid content,the enhancement of CO_(2) absorption process by MCM-41 nanoparticles was more significant and improved by 16.9%compared with pure water.

Nitric oxide being a major gas pollutant has attracted much attention and various technologies have been developed to reduce NO emission to preserve the *** persulfate oxidation technology is a workable and effective choice for wet flue gas denitrification due to its high efficiency and green ***,NO absorption rate is limited and affected by mass transfer limitation of NO and aqueous persulfate in traditional *** this study,a rotating packed bed(RPB)was employed as a gas-liquid absorption device to elevate the NO removal efficiency(η_(NO))by aqueous persulfate((NH_(4))_(2)S_(2)O_(8))activated by ferrous ethylenediaminetetraacetate(Fe^(^(2+))-EDTA).The experimental results regarding the NO absorption were obtained by investigating the effect of various operating parameters on the removal efficiency of NO in *** the concentration of(NH_(4))_(2)S_(2)O_(8) and liquid-gas ratio could promoted the oxidation and absorption of NO while theη_(NO) decreased with the increase of the gas flow and NO *** addition,improving the high gravity factor increased theη_(NO) and the total volumetric mass transfer coefficient(K_(G)α )which raise theη_(NO) up to more than 75%under the investigated *** observations proved that the RPB can enhance the gas-liquid mass transfer process in NO *** correlation formula between K_(G)α and the influencing factors was determined by regression calculation,which is used to guide the industrial scale-up application of the system in NO *** presence of O_(2) also had a negative effect on the NO removal process and through electron spin resonance spectrometer detection and product analysis,it was revealed that Fe^(2+)-EDTA activated(NH_(4))2S_(2)O_(8) to produce•SO_(4)^(-),•OH and•O_(2)^(-),played a leading role in the oxidation of NO,to produce NO_(3)^(-)as the final *** obtained results demonstrated a good applicable potential of RPB/PS/Fe^(2+)-EDTA in the

Preparation by High-gravity Technology of a Cu/N-TiO_(2) Nanophotocatalyst for Photodegradation of Phenol Wastewater

TiO_(2) is a promising photocatalyst,but its practical use is restricted by its low catalytic efficiency caused by the large particle size and uneven size distribution,which arise from the limited contact area of the liquid-liquid interface during *** stream-rotating packed bed(IS-RPB)reactors,which are used for process intensification,overcome the mixing limitation of traditional stirred-tank reactors and provide a micromixing environment at the molecular scale for the two liquid phases,which can reduce the particle size and distribution ***/N-TiO_(2) nanoparticles were prepared in an IS-RPB reactor by the one-step precipitation method using urea as the nitrogen source,titanyl sulfate as the titanium source,copper chloride as the copper source,and ammonium hydroxide as the *** particle size of the photocatalyst was about 11.40 nm with a narrow size distribution measured by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that N replaced some O and was uniformly dispersed in the TiO_(2) lattice as interstitial and substitutional *** replaced some Ti and was present as Cu^(2+).The synergistic effects of these two elements formed a new impurity energy level and reduced the band gap energy of the TiO_(2) *** specific surface area of the Cu/N-TiO_(2) nanoparticles was 152.97 m^(2)/*** effects of the main factors on the degradation rate were studied,and the removal efficiency reached 100%under the optimal operating conditions after 2 h ultraviolet *** electron paramagnetic resonance measurements showed that the superoxide radical played a main role in the degradation process,whereas the photogenerated holes and hydroxyl radicals had weak effects.

低结晶度B-Co_(3)O_(4)纳米颗粒电催化硝酸盐还原合成氨

采用简单的沉淀-煅烧工艺合成了B-Co_(3)O_(4)Nano-particles(NPs),研究了B-Co_(3)O_(4)NPs电催化硝酸盐还原合成氨(NitrRR)的性能。研究发现:在含0.1 mol/L NaNO_(3)的NaOH(1 mol/L)溶液中进行电催化反应,B-Co_(3)O_(4)NPs具有较高的电催化活性。当电压在-0.8 V(***)时,获得20 mg/(h·cm^(2))的NH_(3)产率和94%的法拉效应(FE)。当电压在-0.6 V(***)时,获得17.2 mg/(h·cm^(2))的NH_(3)产率和95%的FE。电极材料B-Co_(3)O_(4)NPs优异的电化学性能得益于B-Co_(3)O_(4)NPs中的B—O键在电催化过程中能有效抑制析氢反应。较低的结晶度和特殊的多孔结构有效促进了B-Co_(3)O_(4)NPs对NO_(3)^(-)的吸附性和还原活性,也促进了电子的传输与转移过程。

Applications of high-gravity technologies in gas purifications: A review

The traditional gas purification techniques such as wet gas desulfurization, with their advantages of large-scale implementation and maturity, have still been widely used. However, the main drawback of these techniques is the low transfer efficiency, which normally needs towers as tall as tens of meters to remove the pollutants. Therefore, new technologies which could enhance the mass transfer efficiency and are less energy-intensive are highly desirable. As a process intensification technology, high-gravity technology, which is carried out in a rotating packed bed(RPB), has recently demonstrated great potential for industrial applications due to its high mass transfer efficiency, energy-saving, and smaller volume. This consequently provides higher efficiency in toxic gas removal, and can significantly reduce the investment and operation costs. In this review, the mechanism,characteristics, recent developments, and the industry applications of high-gravity technologies in gas purifications, such as hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds and nanoparticle removal are discussed, most of the demonstration projects and practical application examples in gas purification come from China. The perspective and prospective of this technology in gas purification and other fields are also briefly discussed.

Mass transfer characteristics in a rotating packed bed with split packing

The rotating packed bed （RPB） with split packing is a novel gas-liquid contactor, which intensifies the mass transfer processes controlled by gas-side resistance. To assess its efficacy, the mass transfer characteristics with adjacent rings in counter-rotation and co-rotation modes in a split packing RPB were studied experimentally. The physical absorption system NH3-H2O was used for characterizing the gas volumetric mass transfer coeffi- cient （kyae） and the effective inteffacial area （ae） was determined by chemical absorption in the CO2-NaOH sys- tem. The variation in kyae and ae with the operating conditions is also investigated. The experimental results indicated that kyae and ae for counter-rotation of the adjacent packing rings in the split packing RPB were higher than those for co-rotation, and both counter-rotation and co-rotation of the split packing RPB were superior over conventional RPBs under the similar ooerating conditions.

Optimization of High-Gravity Chelated Iron Process for Removing H_2S Based on Response Surface Methodology

By using a mixture of N2 and H2S as the simulated APG(associated petroleum gas), the desulfurization experiment was performed in a cross-flow rotating packed bed(RPB) based on the chelated iron oxidation-reduction method. In order to determine the operating conditions of the system, the effects of the concentration of Fe3+ ions(ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 mol/L), the liquid-gas volume ratio(ranging from 15 to 25 L/m3) and the high gravity factor(ranging from 36 to 126) on the removal of H2 S were studied by means of the Box-Behnken design(BBD) under response surface methodology(RSM). The overall results have demonstrated that the BBD with an experimental design can be used effectively in the optimization of the desulfurization process. The optimal conditions based on both individualized and combined responses(at a Fe3+ ion concentration of 0.16 mol/L, a liquid-gas volume ratio of 20.67 L/m3 and a high gravity factor of 87) were found. Under this optimum condition, the desulfurization efficiency could reach 98.81% when the H2 S concentration was 7 g/m3 in APG. In this work, the sulfur product was analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and the energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDX). The results of analysis show that the sulfur is made of the high-purity orthorhombic crystals, which are advantageous to environmental conservation.

Selection of Chelated Fe(Ⅲ)/Fe(Ⅱ) Catalytic Oxidation Agents for Desulfurization Based on Iron Complexation Method

Optimization of factors influencing the experiments on reactions involving 8 different chelating agents and soluble Fe(III)/Fe(II) salts was carried out to yield chelated iron complexes. A combination of optimized influencing factors has resulted in a Fe chelating capacity of the iron-based desulfurization solution to be equal to 6.83—13.56 g/L at a redox potential of 0.185—0.3. The desulfurization performance of Fe(III)/Fe(II) chelating agents was investigated on a simulated sulfur-containing industrial gas composed of H2 S and N2 in a cross-flow rotating packed bed. Test results have revealed that the proposed iron-based desulfurization solution showed a sulfur removal efficiency of over 99% along with a Fe chelating capacity exceeding 1.35 g/L. This desulfurization technology which has practical application prospect is currently in the phase of commercial scale-up study.

Comparison of Mass Transfer Characteristics between Countercurrent-Flow and Crosscurrent-Flow Rotating Packed Bed

The rotating packed bed(RPB), mainly including the countercurrent-flow RPB(Counter-RPB) and the crosscurrentflow RPB(Cross-RPB) that are classified from the perspective of gas-liquid contact style, is a novel process intensification device. A significant measurement standard for evaluating the performance of RPB is the mass transfer effect. In order to compare the mass transfer characteristics of Counter-RPB and Cross-RPB with the same size, the liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient(k_La_e) and effective interfacial area(a_e) were measured under identical operating conditions. Meanwhile, the comparison of comprehensive mass transfer performance was conducted using the ratio of ΔP(pressure drop) to kLae as the standard. Experimental results indicated that kLae and ae increased with the increase in liquid spray density q, gas velocity u, and high gravity factor β. Furthermore, compared with the Cross-RPB, the Counter-RPB has higher liquid volumetric mass transfer coefficient and slightly larger effective interfacial area. The experimental results of comprehensive mass transfer performance showed that the Counter-RPB had higher ΔP/k_La_e than the Cross-RPB with changes in liquid spray density and high gravity factor, and there exists a turning point at 0.71 m/s accompanied by a variation with gas velocity. Moreover, the relative error of experimental value to calculated value, which was computed by the correlative expressions of kLae, was less than 5 %. In conclusion, the mass transfer characteristics of RPB are deeply impacted by the manner in which the flows are established and the Cross-RPB would have a great potential for industrial scale-up applications.
