Oyster studies reveal the duplication and functional diversification of Bivalvia caspase-8 genes

Caspase-8,first classified as a pro-apoptotic caspase,is considered to have arisen from duplication with caspase-10 and involves multiple immune and inflammatory responses in ***,few are known on the phylogeny and function of caspase-8 in molluscs,one of the largest phyla in marine *** this study,we conducted phylogenetic and functional analysis on molluscan caspase-8-like *** indicate that duplication occurred in molluscan caspase-8-like genes,resulting in at least two caspase-8 copies in some groups of *** studies in Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas showed different spatio-temporal expression patterns and subcellular localizations of CgCaspase-8-1 and *** no interaction was observed between CgCaspase-8-2 and CgFADD,the adaptor molecule in apoptosis,yeast two-hybrid and co-immunoprecipitation assays suggested the interaction between CgCaspase-8-1 and CgFADD,indicating its pro-apoptotic *** addition,CgCaspase-8-1 showed interaction with the CARD domain of *** with two NF-κB subunits(Cgp105 and CgRel),their transcripts were up-regulated in response to poly(I:C)stimuli,supporting the immune function of both pro-and *** results provide insight into the evolution and functional diversification of Bivalvia caspase-8 genes.

Social Effect of Environmental Pollution on Valley-cities in Western China

Accompanied with the acceleration of urbanization and industrialization,the large and medium-scale valley-cities in the western China are facing environmental problems at respective levels in common. The urban environmental pollution causes economic losses,and also brings out negative effects on urban society. Based on the social investigation method,this paper aims to study the harms to urban society brought by environmental pollution. After the investigation to the inhabitants of six typical valley-cities:Lanzhou,Xining,Chongqing,Baiyin,Luzhou and Zigong,we found that the urban environmental pollution has resulted in negative influences with different levels on residents' physical,psychological,work,recreations,studies and social activities. The problem of environmental pollution has become a serious restriction to sustainable development of cities mentioned above. Herewith,it has become urgent to strengthen the government regulations for controlling urban environmental pollution.

Mechanical properties and failure characteristics of fractured sandstone with grouting and anchorage

Based on uniaxial compression experimental results on fractured sandstone with grouting and anchorage, we studied the strength and deformation properties, the failure model, crack formation and evolution laws of fractured sandstone under different conditions of anchorage. The experimental results show that the strength and elastic modulus of fractured sandstone with different fracture angles are significantly lower than those of intact sandstone. Compared with the fractured samples without anchorage,the peak strength, residual strength, peak and ultimate axial strain of fractured sandstone under different anchorage increase by 64.5–320.0%, 62.8–493.0%, and 31.6–181.4%, respectively. The number of bolts and degree of pre-stress has certain effects on the peak strength and failure model of fractured sandstone. The peak strength of fractured sandstone under different anchorage increases to some extent, and the failure model of fractured sandstone also transforms from tensile failure to tensile–shear mixed failure with the number of bolts. The pre-stress can restrain the formation and evolution process of tensile cracks, delay the failure process of fractured sandstone under anchorage and impel the transformation of failure model from brittle failure to plastic failure.

Martensitic transformation,shape memory effect and superelasticity of Ti-xZr-(30-x)Nb-4Ta alloys

Martensitic transformations,mechanical properties,shape memory effect and superelasticity of Ti-xZr-(30-x)Nb-4Ta(x=15,16,17 and 18;at%) alloys were investigated.X-ray diffraction(XRD),optical microscopy(OM) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) results indicated that the Ti-16Zr-14Nb-4Ta,Ti-17Zr-13Nb-4Ta and Ti-18Zr-12Nb4Ta alloys were mainly composed of α″-martensite,while the Ti-15Zr-15Nb-4Ta alloy was characterized by predominant p *** reverse martensitic transformation temperatures increased when Nb was replaced by Zr,indicating stronger p-stabilizing effect for the *** Ti-15Zr-15Nb-4Ta alloy displayed superelasticity during tensile deformation with a recovery strain of 3.51%.For the other three alloys with higher Zr content,the martensitic reorientation occurred during tensile deformation,resulting in shape memory recovery upon subsequent *** maximum shape memory effect was 3.46% in the Ti-18Zr-12Nb-4Ta alloy.

BACKGROUND Spinal manipulation therapy(SMT)has been widely used worldwide to treat musculoskeletal diseases,but it can cause serious adverse *** epidural hematoma(SEH)caused by SMT is a rare emergency that can cause neurological *** herein report three cases of SEH after *** SUMMARY The first case was a 30-year-old woman who experienced neck pain and numbness in both upper limbs immediately after *** symptoms persisted after 3 d of conservative treatment,and she was admitted to our *** resonance imaging(MRI)demonstrated an SEH,extending from C6 to *** second case was a 55-year-old man with sudden back pain 1 d after SMT,numbness in both lower limbs,an inability to stand or walk,and difficulty *** revealed an SEH,extending from T1 to *** third case was a 28-year-old man who suddenly developed symptoms of numbness in both lower limbs 4 h after *** was unable to stand or walk and experienced mild back *** revealed an SEH,extending from T1 to *** three patients underwent surgery after failed conservative *** three cases recovered to ASIA grade E on day 5,1 wk,and day 10 after surgery,*** patients returned to normal after 3 mo of *** SEH caused by SMT is very rare,and the condition of each patient should be evaluated in full detail before *** should be diagnosed immediately and actively treated by surgery.

Comparative Analysis of the Generalized Omega Equation and Generalized Vertical Motion Equation

Research on vertical motion in mesoscale systems is an extraordinarily challenging *** for fewer assumptions,a new form of generalized vertical motion equation and a generalized Omega equation are derived in the Cartesian coordinate system(nonhydrostatic equilibrium)and the isobaric coordinate system(hydrostatic equilibrium),*** terms on the right-hand side of the equations,which comprise the Q vector,are composed of three factors:dynamic,thermodynamic,and mass.A heavy rain event that occurred from 18 to 19 July 2021 in southern Xinjiang was selected to analyze the characteristics of the diagnostic variable in the generalized vertical motion equation(Qz)and the diagnostic variable in the generalized Omega equation(Qp)using high-resolution model *** results show that the horizontal distribution of the Qz-vector divergence at 5.5 km is roughly similar to the distribution of the Qp-vector divergence at 500 hPa,and that both relate well to the composite radar reflectivity,vertical motion,and hourly accumulated *** Qz-vector divergence is more effective in indicating weak *** vertical cross sections,regions with alternating positive and negative large values that match the precipitation are mainly concentrated in the middle levels for both forms of Q *** temporal evolutions of vertically integrated Qz-vector divergence and Qp-vector divergence are generally *** perform better than the classical quasigeostrophic Q vector and nongeostrophic Q vector in indicating the development of the precipitation system.

High-temperature deformation behavior of a beta Ti-3.0Al-3.5Cr-2.0Fe-0.1B alloy

The high-temperature deformation behavior of a beta Ti-3.0 Al-3.5 Cr-2.0 Fe-0.1 B alloy was investigated by a Gleeble-1500 D thermal simulator. The height reduction was 50%, corresponding to a true strain of 0.693. The strain rate ranging from 0.01 to 10.00 s^-1 and the deformation temperature ranging from 800 to 950 ℃ were *** flow stress and the apparent activation energy for deformation, along with the constitutive equation, were used to analyze the behavior of the Ti-3.0 Al-3.5 Cr-2.0 Fe-0.1 B alloy. The processing map was established. The effect of strain rate on the microstructure at 850 ℃ was *** flow stress-strain curves indicated that the peak flow stresses increased along with an increase in the strain rate and decreased as the deformation temperature *** on the true stress-true strain curves, the constitutive equation was established and followed as the ε= 6.58×10-（10）[sinh（0.0113σ）]-（3.44）exp（-245481.3/RT）. The processing map exhibited the ＂unsafe＂ region at the strain rate of10 s^-1 and the temperature of 850 ℃,and the rest region was ＂safe＂. The deformation microstructure demonstrated that both dynamic recovery（DRV） and dynamic recrystallization（DRX） existed during deformation. At the lower strain rate of 0.01 s^-1, the main deformation mechanism was the DRV, and the DRX was the dominant deformation mechanism at the higher strain rate of 1.00 s^-1.

A new method for position-sensitive measurement of beta surface contamination

In this paper, we propose a new method for position-sensitive measurement of beta surface contamination. With a position-sensitive detector of enlarged sensitive detection area, accurate information of the contamination distribution can be obtained. The positionsensitive detection is based on a large-area plastic scintillator and the wavelength shifting(WLS) fibers and adopts the ‘‘light center of gravity'' method. Optical transmission of the detector is simulated with a preliminary detector model, and feasibility of the detector design and measurement method is evaluated using an experiment *** simulation and experiment results at different beta-ray incident points on the scintillator surface show that there is a polynomial relationship between the average amplitude ratio of the output pulses from the two parallel WLS fibers in the same fiber layer and the relative distance from the incident point to the WLS fiber.

Tribological behaviour of biomedical Ti–Zr-based shape memory alloys

The tribological behaviour of Ti-30Zr, Ti-20Zr-10Nb and Ti-19Zr-10Nb-1Fe alloys was investigated using reciprocating friction and wear tests. X-ray diffraction（XRD） results indicate that Ti-30Zr, Ti-20Zr-10Nb and Ti-19Zr-10Nb-1Fe alloys are composed of hexagonal a＇-martensite, orthorhombic a＇＇-martensite and bcc β phases,respectively. Ti-30Zr alloy has the highest hardness of HV（273.1 ± 9.3）, while Ti-20Zr-10Nb alloy exhibits the lowest hardness of HV（235.2 ± 20.4） among all the *** tribological results indicate that Ti-30Zr alloy shows the best wear resistance among these alloys, corresponding to the minimum average friction coefficient of 0.052 and the lowest wear rate of 6.4x10^-4mm3·N^-1·m^-1. Ti-20Zr-10Nb alloy displays better wear resistance than Ti-19Zr-10Nb-1Fe alloy, because the iron oxide is easy to fall off and less Nb2O5 films form on the worn surface of the *** and abrasive wear in association with adhesive wear are the main wear mechanism of these alloys.
