C-dots assisted synthesis of gold nanoparticles as labels to catalyze copper deposition for ultrasensitive electrochemical sensing of proteins

We report an ultrasensitive protocol for electrochemical sensing using the hydroxyl-rich C-dots assisted synthesis of gold nanoparticles(C-dots@AuNP) as labels with copper depositon reaction. The C-dots catalyzing copper deposition reaction was implemented for the first time. We constructed a sandwich-type immunosensor on the chitosan modified glassy carbon electrode(GCE) by glutaraldehyde(GA) crosslinking, with C-dots@AuNP as biolabels. Copper was deposited on the catalytic surfaces of second antibody-conjugated C-dots@AuNP nanoparticles through CuSO_4-ascorbic acid reduction, because both C-dots and AuNPs could strongly catalyze the CuSO_4 and ascorbic acid to form Cu particles, which amplified the detection signal. Then the corresponding antigen was quantified based on simultaneous chemical-dissolution/cathodic-preconcentration of copper for insitu analysis using anodic stripping square wave voltammetry(ASSWV) directly on the modified electrode. Under optimized conditions, these electrodes were employed for sandwich-type immunoanaly sis, pushing the lower limits of detection(LODs)down to the fg mL^(-1) level for human immunoglobulin G(IgG) and cardiac troponin I(cTnI), a cardiac biomarker. These novel sensors have good stability and acceptable accuracy and reproducibility, suggesting potential applications in clinical diagnostics.

Opto-electromechanically induced transparency in a hybrid opto-electromechanical system

We study opto-electromechanically induced transparency in a hybrid opto-electromechanical system made up of an optical cavity tunneling-coupled to an opto-mechanical cavity, which is capacitively coupled to a charged mechanical oscillator by a charged and moveable mechanical cavity mirror as an interface. By studying the effects of the different parameters on the output field, we propose a scheme to modulate the opto-electromechanically induced transparency(OEMIT). Our results show that the OEMIT with the transparency windows from single to double to triple can be modulated by changing the tunneling, opto-mechanical and electrical couplings. In addition, the explanation of the OEMIT with multi-windows is given by the energy level diagram based on quantum interference. Our investigation will provide an optimal platform to manipulate the transmission of optical field via microfabricated opto-electromechanical device.

Density functional theory study of the interaction of H_2 with pure and Ti-doped WO_3 (002) surfaces

Density functional theory （DFT） calculations are conducted to explore the interaction of H2 with pure and Tidoped WO3 （002） surfaces. Four top adsorption models of H2 on pure and Ti-doped WO3 （002） surfaces are investigated respectively, they are adsorption on bridging oxygen Olc, absorption on plane oxygen O2c, absorption on 5-fold W5c （Ti）, and absorption on 6-fold W6c. The most stable and H2 possible adsorption structure in the pure surface is H-end oriented to the surface plane oxygen O2c site, while the favourable adsorption sites for H2 in a Ti-doped surface is not only an O2c site but also a W6c site. The adsorption energy, the Fermi energy level EF, and the electronic population are investigated and the H2-sensing mechanism of a pure-doped WO3 （002） surface is revealed theoretically： the theoretical results are in good accordance with our existing experimental results. By comparing the above three terms, it is found that Ti doping can obviously enhance the adsorption of H2. It can be predicted that the method of Ti-doped into a WO3 thin film is an effective way to improve WO3 sensor sensitivity to H2 gas.

The pharmacologic characteristics of ^(99)Tc^m-N-ethyl-N_2S_2-memantine,an NMDA receptor imaging agent,was *** was prepared by a one-step reaction from N-ethyl-N_2S_*** affinity and specificity were determined by radio-ligand receptor binding assay(RRA).Biodistribution in vivo in mice was *** results showed that ^(99)Tc^m-N-ethyl-N_2S_2-memantine bound to a single site on NMDA receptor with a K_d of 584.32 nmol/L and a B_(max)of 267.05 nmol/mg.A competitive analysis showed that such specific binding could be inhibited by specific inhibitors of NMDA receptor,such as ketamine and(+)-*** biodistribution exhibited rapid uptake and favorable retention in mice *** major radioactivity was metabolized by the hepatic system.A two-compartment model of C=4.49e^(-0.083t)+ 1.42e^(-0.0016t)was established,and the half life was 8.35 min in *** conclusion,the new radio-ligand ^(99)Tc^m-N-ethyl-N_2S_2-Memantine has a moderate affinity and specific binding to NMDA receptor,and can easily cross the blood-brain barrier(BBB).Therefore,it may be a potential NMDA receptor imaging agent.

Nucleophilic substitution reaction and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds play significant roles in organic chemistry, and non-traditional intrinsic luminescence (NTIL) has become an emerging research area. Here, we demonstrate the successful nucleophilic substitution polymerization of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, including acetylacetone, 3,5-heptanedione, methyl acetoacetate, cyclopentane-1,3-dione, 1,3-indandione, 1-phenyl-1,3-butanedione and dibenzoylmethane, where reactive hydrogens at α position of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds are involved. Through this base catalyzed nucleophilic substitution polycondensation between 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and α,α’-dibromo xylene, a series of nonconjugated poly(1,3-dicarbonyl)s have been successfully prepared with high yield (up to >99%) under mild conditions. Investigations reveal that this nucleophilic substitution polycondensation exhibits self-accelerating effect and flexible stoichiometry characteristics, which exhibits advantages over traditional polycondensation methods. This polymerization also exhibits intriguing polymerization-induced emission (PIE) characteristics, where nonconjugated poly(1,3-dicarbonyl)s exhibit intriguing chemical structure dependent aggregation-induced emission (AIE) type NTIL. This work therefore expands the monomer, method, chemical structure and property libraries of polymer chemistry, which may cause inspirations to polymerization methodology, PIE, AIE and NTIL.

Using crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol polymer membrane as a separator in the microbial fuel cell

Separator between anode and cathode is an essential part of the microbial fuel cell （MFC） and its property could significantly influence the system perfor- mance. In this study we used polyvinyl alcohol （PVA） polymer membrane crosslinked with sulfosuccinic acid （SSA） as a new separator for the MFC. The highest power density of 7594-4 mW-m-2 was obtained when MFC using the PVA membrane crosslinked with 15% of SSA due to its desirable proton conductivity （5.16 x 10-2 ***）. The power density significantly increased to 11064- 30 mW.m-2 with a separator-electrode-assembly config- uration, which was comparable with glass fiber （11704- 46 mW.m-2）. The coulombic efficiencies of the MFCs with crosslinked PVA membranes ranged from 36.3% to 45.7% at a fix external resistance of lO00f2. The crosslinked PVA membrane could be a promising alter- native to separator materials for constructing practical MFC system.

Molecular and Functional Characterization of Sphingosine-1-Phosphate Lyase Homolog from Higher Plants

Sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase （SPL） is involved in degrading the conserved sphingolipid signaling molecule sphingosine-1-phosphate. However, molecular studies on plant SPL have not been reported to date. Here, we present bioinformatic, molecular and functional analyses of putative SPL proteins from Arabidopsis thaliana and rice （designated as AtSPL and OsSPL, respectively）. Amino acid sequence comparison revealed that plant SPL contalned the pyridoxal-dependent decarboxylase domain and the conserved residue that may be involved in substrate catalysis. When expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, AtSPL and OsSPL corrected the hypersensitive phenotype of the yeast dpl1 deletion strain, which is deficient in endogenous SPL activity, to exogenous supplied sphingolipid long chain bases （LCBs）, suggesting that plant SPL protein is functional In vivo in degrading phosphorylated LCBs. In Arabidopsis, AtSPL transcripts were detected in roots, stems, leaves, flowers and siliques. In pAtSPL-AtSPL∷GUS transgenic lines, the AtSPL∷GUS fusion protein was found in a variety of vegetative and reproductive tissues. AtSPL expression level was dynamically regulated during leaf development and senescence, and was steadily and significantly increased in Arabidopsis seedlings treated with the cell death-inducing fungal toxin fumonisin B1. The potential function of SPL in Arabidopsis is discussed.

Microstructure and Characterization of Capric-stearic Acid/Modified Expanded Vermiculite Thermal Storage Composites

In order to improve the thermal storage capacity of expanded vermiculite（EV） based formstable composite PCM（FS-PCM） via organic modification of EV, first, EV was modified with a sodium stearate（Na St） as surface modifier, and organic EV（OEV） with hydrophobicity and higher adsorption capacity for fatty acid was obtained. A novel capric-stearic acid eutectic（CA-SA）/OEV FS-PCM with high thermal storage capacity was then developed. OEV and CA-SA/OEV were characterized by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）, differential scanning calorimetry（DSC）, thermal gravimetry（TG）, and thermal cycling test. Results showed that OEV has obvious hydrophobicity and a higher adsorption capacity for fatty acid. Its adsorption ratio has increased by 48.71% compared with that of EV. CA-SA/OEV possesses high thermal storage density（112.52 J/g）, suitable melting temperature（20.49 ℃）, good chemical compatibility, excellent thermal stability and reliability, indicating great application potential for building energy efficiency. Moreover, organic modification of inorganic matrix may offer novel options for improving its adsorption capacity for organic PCMs and increasing heat storage capacity of corresponding FS-PCMs.

CO_2 sensing properties and mechanism of PrFeO_3 and NdFeO_3 thick film sensor

The CO_2 sensing of PrFeO_3 and NdFeO_3 sensors were investigated. Experimental results show that the resistances for PrFeO_3 and NdFeO_3 in CO_2 gas are larger than those in air and the responses for PrFeO_3and NdFeO_3 sensors increase with an increase in room-temperature relative humidity. When exposed to1000 ppm CO_2, the response of PrFeO_3 thick film based on nano-powders annealed at 700℃can reach8.44 at 160℃for the background of wet air with 58%of room-temperature relative humidity (RH),which is much larger than the corresponding value (3.03) in wet air with 25%RH. The sensing response S of NdFeO_3 thick-film sensor based on nano-powders annealed at 600℃to 3000 ppm CO_2 at the operating temperature 200℃can reach 2.36 for the background of wet air with 72%RH, which is larger than the corresponding value (1.83) in the air with 25%RH. Compared with other CO_2 sensing materials, the PrFeO_3 sensor has larger response at lower operating temperature for CO_2 gas and may be used as a new CO_2 sensing material.

Minimizing the cost of periodically replicated systems via model and quantitative analysis

Geographically replicating objects across multiple data centers improves the performance and reliability of cloud storage *** consistent replicas comes with high synchronization costs,as it faces more expensive WAN transport prices and increased *** replication is the widely used technique to reduce the synchronization *** replication strategies in existing cloud storage systems are too static to handle traffic changes,which indicates that they are inflexible in the face of unforeseen loads,resulting in additional synchronization *** propose quantitative analysis models to quantify consistency and synchronization cost for periodically replicated systems,and derive the optimal synchronization period to achieve the best tradeoff between consistency and synchronization *** on this,we propose a dynamic periodic synchronization method,Sync-Opt,which allows systems to set the optimal synchronization period according to the variable load in clouds to minimize the synchronization *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of our *** with the policies widely used in modern cloud storage systems,the Sync-Opt strategy significantly reduces the synchronization cost.
