Modeling of multiphase flow in low permeability porous media:Effect of wettability and pore structure properties

Multiphase flow in low permeability porous media is involved in numerous energy and environmental applications.However,a complete description of this process is challenging due to the limited modeling scale and the effects of complex pore structures and wettability.To address this issue,based on the digital rock of low permeability sandstone,a direct numerical simulation is performed considering the interphase drag and boundary slip to clarify the microscopic water-oil displacement process.In addition,a dual-porosity pore network model(PNM)is constructed to obtain the water-oil relative permeability of the sample.The displacement efficiency as a recovery process is assessed under different wetting and pore structure properties.Results show that microscopic displacement mechanisms explain the corresponding macroscopic relative permeability.The injected water breaks through the outlet earlier with a large mass flow,while thick oil films exist in rough hydrophobic surfaces and poorly connected pores.The variation of water-oil relative permeability is significant,and residual oil saturation is high in the oil-wet system.The flooding is extensive,and the residual oil is trapped in complex pore networks for hydrophilic pore surfaces;thus,water relative permeability is lower in the water-wet system.While the displacement efficiency is the worst in mixed-wetting systems for poor water connectivity.Microporosity negatively correlates with invading oil volume fraction due to strong capillary resistance,and a large microporosity corresponds to low residual oil saturation.This work provides insights into the water-oil flow from different modeling perspectives and helps to optimize the development plan for enhanced recovery.

This study employs advanced electrochemical and surface characterization techniques to investigate the impact of electrochemical hydrogen charging on the corrosion behavior and surface film of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy.The findings revealed the formation ofγ-TiH andδ-TiH_(2) hydrides in the alloy after hydrogen charging.Prolonging hydrogen charging resulted in more significant degradation of the alloy microstructure,leading to deteriorated protectiveness of the surface film.This trend was further confirmed by the electrochemical measurements,which showed that the corrosion resistance of the alloy progressively worsened as the hydrogen charging time was increased.Consequently,this work provides valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying the corrosion of Ti-6Al-4V alloy under hydrogen charging conditions.

Adhesion G protein-coupled receptors(aGPCRs)are the second largest diverse group within the GPCR superfamily,which play critical roles in many physiological and patho-logical processes through cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions.The adhesion GPCR Adgrg6,also known as GPR126,is one of the better-characterized aGPCRs.GPR126 was previously found to have critical developmental roles in Schwann cell maturation and its mediated myelination in the peripheral nervous system in both zebrafish and mammals.Current studies have extended our understanding of GPR126-mediated roles during develop-ment and in human diseases.In this review,we highlighted these recent advances in GPR126 in expression profile,molecular structure,ligand-receptor interactions,and associated physiological and pathological functions in development and diseases.

Promethazine(PHZ)is used as a sedative in veterinary medicine,and its residue can threaten the health of human.The electrochemical detection of PHZ is suitable method for application in the field.However,the traditional electroanalysis is difficult to perform directly in meat samples due to matrix interference.This work integrates magnetic solid-phase extraction and differential pulse voltammetry for highly sensitive and selective determination of PHZ in beef and beef liver for the first time.CoFe_(2)O_(4)/graphene coated with C_(18)-functionalized mesoporous silica(MG@mSiO_(2)-C_(18))is synthesized as dispersed magnetic adsorbent to extract PHZ.Magnetic glassy carbon electrode modified with nitrogen-doped hollow carbon microspheres(HCM)attracts the MG@mSiO_(2)-C_(18)with PHZ,and directly detects the PHZ without elution procedure.MG@mSiO_(2)-C_(18)can separate PHZ to avoid the interference of impurities on following detection,and also concentrate PHZ on magnetic electrode.Additionally,the electrode modification with HCM can amplify the electrochemical signal of PHZ.Finally,the integrated PHZ determination method exhibits a wide linear range from 0.08μmol/L to 300μmol/L with a low limit of detection of 9.8 nmol/L.The beef sample analysis presents excellent recovery,demonstrating that this protocol is promising for the rapid and onsite detection of PHZ in real meat samples。

Unfavorable environmental cues severely affect crop productivity resulting in significant economic losses to farmers. In plants, multiple regulatory genes, such as the WRKY transcription factor (TF) family, modulate the expression of defense genes. However, the role of the pineapple WRKY genes is poorly understood. Here, we studied the pineapple WRKY gene, AcWRKY28, by generating AcWRKY28 over-expressing transgenic pineapple plants. Overexpression of AcWRKY28 enhanced the salt stress resistance in transgenic pineapple lines. Comparative transcriptome analysis of transgenic and wild-type pineapple plants showed that “plant-pathogen interaction” pathway genes, including 9calcium-dependent protein kinases (CPKs), were up-regulated in AcWRKY28 over-expressing plants. Furthermore, chromatin immunoprecipitation and yeast one-hybrid assays revealed AcCPK12, AcCPK3, AcCPK8, AcCPK1, and AcCPK15 as direct targets of AcWRKY28. Consistently, the study of AcCPK12 over-expressing Arabidopsis lines showed that AcCPK12 enhances salt, drought, and disease resistance. This study shows that AcWRKY28 plays a crucial role in promoting salt stress resistance by activating the expression of AcCPK genes.

Background Brucellosis is a severe zoonotic disease that is often overlooked,particularly in impoverished countries.Timely identification of focal complications in brucellosis is crucial for improving treatment outcomes.However,there is currently a lack of established indicators or biomarkers for diagnosing these complications.Therefore,this study aimed to investigate potential warning signs of focal complications in human brucellosis,with the goal of providing practical parameters for clinicians to aid in the diagnosis and management of patients.Methods A multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted in China from December 2019 to August 2021.The study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and complications of patients with brucellosis using a ques-tionnaire survey and medical record system.The presence of warning signs for complications was assessed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression models.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves and the area under the curve(AUC)were used for variable screening and model evaluation.Results A total of 880 participants diagnosed with human brucellosis were enrolled.The median age of the patients Was 50 years[interquartile range(IQR):41.5-58.0],and 54.8%had complications.The most common organ system affected by complications was the osteoarticular system(43.1%),with peripheral arthritis(30.0%),spondylitis(16.6%),paravertebral abscess(5.0%),and sacroilitis(2.7%)being the most prevalent.Complications in other organ systems included the genitourinary system(4.7%),respiratory system(4.7%),and hematologic system(4.6%).Several fac-tors were found to be associated with focal brucellosis.These factors included a long delay in diagnosis odds ratio(OR)=3.963,95%confidence interval(CI):1.906-8.238 for>90 daysl,the presence of underlying disease(OR=1.675,95%CI:1.176-2.384),arthralgia(OR=3.197,95%CI:1.986-5.148),eye bulging pain(OR=3.482,95%CI:1.349-8.988),C-reactive protein(CRP)>10 mg/L(OR=1.910,95%CI:1.310-2.784)and erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)el

The Development of Khorgas Port in Xinjiang, China and Its Effect on Surrounding Towns

The sustainable development of border port-cities is of considerable significance to the stabilization and consolidation of border areas,unlike coastal-ports cities that consist of coastal ports and cities.Border ports should continue to drive the development of their surrounding towns to provide high-quality living conditions,employment,and housing for inhabitants of such towns and enhance the population agglomeration capacity of border areas.This study aimed to analyze the structure of employment and settlement in the cities surrounding the Khorgas Port at the different stages of its development—employing semi-structured interviews with individuals to analyze the spatial orientation characteristics of the daily needs of different groups of people and reveal the ways in which border ports drive the development of their surrounding towns—and recommend ways in which this can be improved.This study finds that as the Khorgas Port’s mutual trade market,industrial base,comprehensive management,and other functions continue to grow,the port is becoming increasingly important.As more people work and settl in the surrounding towns,their living needs also increase.However,a considerable number of employed people do not live nearby,and many living needs are not being addressed in the towns surrounding the port.The study also reveals the living services demands of government management personnel who work at the port on weekdays and return to Yining City on weekends,employees of industrial enterprises who work at the port and return home for the New Year’s celebration,and government management personnel and individual business personnel who work at the port and live nearby.In the future,the focus should be on improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of the towns surrounding Khorgas Port,including public services and the settlement ability of employees of industrial enterprises to better realize the radiation drive of the port on the surrounding towns.

Exploration of pathogenic microorganism within the small intestine of necrotizing enterocolitis

Background Necrotizing enterocolitis(NEC)is the most common severe gastrointestinal emergency in neonates.We designed this study to identify the pathogenic microorganisms of NEC in the microbiota of the small intestine of neonates.Methods Using the 16S ribosomal DNA(rDNA)sequencing method,we compared and analyzed the structure and diversity of microbiotas in the intestinal feces of different groups of neonates:patients undergoing jejunostomy to treat NEC(NP group),neonates undergoing jejunostomy to treat other conditions(NN group),and neonates with NEC undergoing conservative treatment(NC group).We took intestinal feces and saliva samples from patients at different time points.Results The beta diversities of the NP,NN,and NC groups were all similar.When comparing the beta diversities between different time points in the NP group,we found similar beta diversities at time points El to E3 but significant differences between the E2-E3 and E4 time points:the abundances of Klebsiella and Enterococcus(Proteobacteria)were higher at the E1-E3 time points;the abundance of Escherichia-Shigella(Proteobacteria)increased at the E2 time point,and the abundance of Klebsiella decreased significantly,whereas that of Streptococcus increased significantly at the E4 time point.Conclusions Our results suggest that the pathological changes of intestinal necrosis in the small intestine of infants with NEC are not directly caused by excessive proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in the small intestine.The sources of microbiota in the small intestine of neonates,especially in premature infants,may be affected by multiple factors.

Limit state analysis of rigid retaining structures against seismically induced passive failure in heterogeneous soils

Soils are not necessarily uniform and may present linearly varied or layered characteristics,for example the backfilled soils behind rigid retaining walls.In the presence of large lateral thrust imposed by arch bridge,passive soil failure is possible.A reliable prediction of passive earth pressure for the design of such wall is challenging in complicated soil strata,when adopting the conventional limit analysis method.In order to overcome the challenge for generating a kinematically admissible velocity field and a statically allowable stress field,finite element method is incorporated into limit analysis,forming finiteelement upper-bound(FEUB)and finite-element lower-bound(FELB)methods.Pseudo-static,original and modified pseudo-dynamic approaches are adopted to represent seismic acceleration inputs.After generating feasible velocity and stress fields within discretized elements based on specific criteria,FEUB and FELB formulations of seismic passive earth pressure(coefficient K_(P))can be derived from work rate balance equation and stress equilibrium.Resorting to an interior point algorithm,optimal upper and lower bound solutions are obtained.The proposed FEUB and FELB procedures are well validated by limit equilibrium as well as lower-bound and kinematic analyses.Parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effects of influential factors on seismic K_(P).Notably,true solution of K_(P) is well estimated based on less than 5%difference between FEUB and FELB solutions under such complex scenarios.

针对仿冒商进入市场引起的消费者权益难以保证,正品市场份额被抢占,正常的市场秩序受到破坏等问题,在考虑同时受欺骗型和非欺骗型仿冒商威胁的情形下,正品制造商通过零售商进行转售或自有渠道直销的两种销售模式,建立Stackelberg博弈对比研究正品制造商的两种销售模式的均衡结果,分析正品制造商的销售模式选择策略,探讨其销售模式选择策略对两类仿冒商的打击效果以及对消费者剩余和社会福利的影响.研究结果表明:正品制造商可能不会为了维护消费者利益而选择直销模式;正品制造商选择直销模式的意愿随消费者在转售模式下对正品和欺骗型仿冒品的感知质量及欺骗型仿冒品质量的提高而减小,随非欺骗型仿冒品质量的提高而增大;正品制造商选择直销模式总能有效打击非欺骗型仿冒商,然而,对欺骗型仿冒商而言,在一定条件下,正品制造商会选择转售模式并容忍欺骗型仿冒商的存在;正品制造商选择直销模式能够提高消费者剩余和社会福利.
