INTER-OBSERVER VARIATIONS OF DIGITAL RADIOGRAPH PULMONARY NODULE MARKING BY USING COMPUTER TOOLKIT

Objective To assess inter-observer variations of pulmonary nodule marking in routine clinical chest digital radiograph (DR) softcopy reading by using a lung nodule computer *** A total of 601 chest posterior-anterior DR images were randomly selected from routine outpatient screening in Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Two chest radiologists with experience more than ten years were first asked to read the images and mark all suspicious nodules independently by using computer toolkit IQQA-Chest, and to indicate the likelihood for each nodule detected. They were also asked to draw the boundary of the identified nodule manually on an enlarged region of interest, which was instantly analyzed by IQQA-Chest. Two sets of diagnostic reports, including the marked nodules, likelihood, manually drawn boundaries, quantitative measurements, and radiologists’ names, were automatically generated and stored by the computer system. One week later, the two radiologists read the same images together by using the same computer toolkit without referring to their previous reading results. Marking procedure was the same except that consensus was reached for each suspicious region. Statistical analysis tools provided in the IQQA-Chest were used to compare all the three sets of reading *** In the independent readings, Reader 1 detected 409 nodules with a mean diameter of 12.4 mm in 241 patients, and Reader 2 detected 401 nodules with a mean diameter of 12.6 mm in 253 patients. In the consensus reading, a total of 352 nodules with a mean diameter of 12.4 mm were detected in 220 patients. Totally, 42.3% of Reader 1’s and 45.1% of Reader 2’s marks were confirmed by the consensus reading. About 40% of each reader’s marks agreed with the other. There were only 130 (14.4%) out of the total 904 unique nodules were confirmed by both readers and the consensus reading. deviation exists between measured and simulated microwave radiometer sounding data. The bias results in low-accuracy atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles simulated by Back Propagation artificial neural network models. This paper evaluated a retrieving atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles method by adopting an input data adjustment-based Back Propagation artificial neural networks model. First, the sounding data acquired at a Nanjing meteorological site in June 2014 were inputted into the Mono RTM Radiative transfer model to simulate atmospheric downwelling radiance at the 22 spectral channels from 22.234 GHz to 58.8 GHz, and we performed a comparison and analysis of the real observed data; an adjustment model for the measured microwave radiometer sounding data was built. Second, we simulated the sounding data of the 22 channels using the sounding data acquired at the site from 2011 to 2013. Based on the simulated rightness temperature data and the sounding data, BP neural network-based models were trained for the retrieval of atmospheric temperature, water vapor density and relative humidity profiles. Finally, we applied the adjustment model to the microwave radiometer sounding data collected in July 2014, generating the corrected data. After that, we inputted the corrected data into the BP neural network regression model to predict the atmospheric temperature, vapor density and relative humidity profile at 58 high levels from 0 to 10 km. We evaluated our model's effect by comparing its output with the real measured data and the microwave radiometer's own second-level product. The experiments showed that the inversion model improves atmospheric temperature and humidity profile retrieval accuracy; the atmospheric temperature RMS error is between 1 K and 2.0 K; the water vapor density's RMS error is between 0.2 g/m^3 and 1.93 g/m3; and the relative humidity's RMS error is between 2.5% and 18.6%.

IMPROVED MARKING AND CHARACTERIziNG OF PULMONARY NODULES ON DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHS USING A COMPUTER-AIdeD DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM

Objective To evaluate and reduce inter-observer variations in the detection and characterization of pulmonary nodules on digital radiograph （DR） chest images. Methods Two hundreds and thirty-two new posterior-anterior DR chest images were collected from out-patient screening patients. Consensus was reached by two experienced radiologists on the marking, rating, and segmentation of small actionable nodules ranged from 5 to 15 mm in diameter using a computer-aided diagnosis （CAD） system. Both their own nodule findings and the computer＇s automatic nodule detection results were analyzed to make the consensus. Nodules identified together with corresponding likelihood rating and segmentation results were referred as ＂Gold Stand- ard＂. Two un-experienced radiologists were asked to first mark and characterize suspicious nodules independently, then were allowed to consult the computer nodule detection results and change their decisions. Results Large inter-observer variations in pulmonary nodule identification and characterization on DR chest images were observed between un-experienced radiologists. Un-expefienced radiologists could greatly benefit from the CAD system, including substantial decrease of inter-observer variation and improvement of nodule detection rates. Moreover, radiologists with different levels of skillfulness could achieve similar high level performance after using the CAD system. Conclusion The CAD system shows a high potential for providing a valuable assistance to the examination of DR chest images.

Early prediction of severe acute pancreatitis by urinary trypsinogen activation peptide

Objective: To investigate the value of urinary trypsi-nogen activation peptide (TAP) in the early predic-tion of severe acute pancreatitis and to compare itwith acute physiology and chronic health evaluationⅡ (APACHE Ⅱ).Methods: We assessed the predictive value of urinaryTAP concentrations measured by a competitive en-zyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Urine sampleswere collected for detecting TAP concentrations atadmission, and 24, 48, and 72 h from 41 patientswith acute pancreatitis (12 with severe disease, 29with mild disease) who presented within 48 h the on-set of symptoms and from 11 control patients, whileAPACHE Ⅱ scores were recorded at 48 h after ***: The peak median urinary TAP concentrationwas seen at admission. The median urinary TAPconcentration at admission for severe pancreatitis (95nmol/L) was significantly higher than the medianfor patients with mild pancreatitis (20 nmol/L, P<0. 005) and controls (15 nmol/L, P<0. 005). TAPconcentrations were significantly higher in patientswith severe acute pancreatitis than the median in pa-tients with mild pancreatitis (P<0. 05) and controls(P<0. 05) on days 2 to 3. The median APACHE Ⅱscores of severe patients were significantly differentfrom those of mild patients (10.5 vs 6.0, P<0.01).The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive, andnegative predictive values of an admission urinaryTAP≥35 nmol/L for severe pancreatitis were91.7%, 89.7%, 78.6% and 96.3%, whereas 48 hafter admission the values for APACHE Ⅱ scores(≥9) were 75.0%, 72.7%, 52.9% and 87.5%. Inprediction of disease severity, the urine TAP concen-tration was much better than APACHE Ⅱ at 48 ***: Urinary TAP obtained at the first 48 hof the onset of symptoms can predict severe acutepancreatitis. In prediction of disease severity, theurinary TAP is much better than APACHE Ⅱ score.

Activating coordinative conjugated polymer via interfacial electron transfer for efficient CO_(2) electroreduction

With tunable local electronic environment,high mass density of MN4sites,and ease of preparation,metal-organic conjugated coordinative polymer(CCP) with inherent electronic conductivity provides a promising alternative to the well-known M-N-C ***,the coordination reaction between Cu^(2+)and 1,2,4,5-tetraaminobenzene(TAB) was conducted on the surface of metallic Cu nanowires,forming a thin layer of CuN4-based CCP(Cu-TAB) on the Cu *** importantly,interfacial transfer of electrons from Cu core to the CuN4-based CCP nanoshell was observed within the resulting CuTAB@Cu,which was found to enrich the local electronic density of the *** such,the CuTAB@Cu demonstrates much improved affinity to the*COOH intermediate formed from the rate determining step;the energy barrier for C-C coupling,which is critical to convert CO_(2)into C2products,is also ***,it delivers a current density of-9.1 mA cm^(-2)at a potential as high as 0.558 V(***) in H-type cell and a Faraday efficiency of 46.4% for *** work emphasizes the profound role of interfacial interaction in tuning the local electronic structure and activating the CuN4-based CCPs for efficient electroreduction of CO_(2).

Slicing Strategy for Selective Laser Melting

Selective laser melting （SLM） is one of the most popular additive manufacturing （AM） technologies for metal parts. Slicing result, especially for the different dimensional slicing geometry and its topology, plays an important role because of the thermodynamic behavior of metal powders. To get correct geometry and reliable topology, a slicing strategy for SLM is proposed. The unavoidable numerical error caused by sampling and geometric transformation is suppressed firstly, according to shifting the z-coordinate of a vertex with a small value such the shifted vertex is on a slicing plane. The result of vertex-shifting makes it possible to identify different geometric features such as skin surfaces, overhang surfaces, extreme edges and volumetric solid. Second, from geometric primitives a hierarchy of axis-aligned bounding boxes （AABBs） is constructed and used to speed up intersection of slicing planes against sets of triangles. All intersecting segments are given different signs to depict their geometric or topological information. Based the different signs, the different dimensional geometry that is eventually represented by simple and anticlockwise oriented polygons, are identified. Finally, the polygons are classified and nested in a multi-tree data structure set to produce correct topological relations. The result of digital and physical experiments shows the proposed slicing strategy is feasible and robust.

Rose without prickle: genomic insights linked to moisture adaptation

Prickles act against herbivores, pathogens or mechanical injury, while also preventing water loss. However,whether prickles have new function and the molecular genetics of prickle patterning remain poorly explored. Here, we generated a high-quality reference genome assembly for ‘Basye’s Thornless’(BT), a prickle-free cultivar of Rosa wichuraiana, to identify genetic elements related to stem prickle *** BT genome harbors a high level of sequence diversity in itself and with cultivar ‘Old Blush’(R. chinensis), a founder genotype in rose domestication. Inheritance of stem prickle density was determined and two QTL were identified. Differentially expressed genes in QTL were involved in water-related functions, suggesting that prickle density may hitchhike with adaptations to moist environments. While the prickle-related gene-regulatory-network(GRN) was highly conserved, the expression variation of key candidate genes was associated with prickle density. Our study provides fundamental resources and insights for genome evolution in the Rosaceae. Ongoing efforts on identification of the molecular bases for key rose traits may lead to improvements for horticultural markets.

Repeated pancreatitis-induced splenic vein thrombosis leads to intractable gastric variceal bleeding: A case report and review

Gastric varices(GV) are one of the most common complications for patients with portal hypertension. Currently, histoacryl injection is recommended as the initial treatment for bleeding of GV, and this injection has been confirmed to be highly effective for most patients in many studies. However, this treatment might be ineffective for some types of GV, such as splenic vein thrombosis-related localized portal hypertension(also called left-sided, sinistral, or regional portal hypertension). Herein, we report a case of repeated pancreatitis-induced complete splenic vein thrombosis that led to intractable gastric variceal bleeding, which was treated by splenectomy. We present detailed radiological and pathological data and blood rheology analysis(the splenic artery- after a short gastric vein or stomach vein- gastric coronary vein- portal vein). The pathophysiology can be explained by the abnormal direction of blood flow in this patient. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case for which detailed patho-logy and blood rheology data are available.

This paper describes the design,construction,and performance of the wideband orthomode transducers(OMTs)for the L-(1.2–1.8 GHz),the S-(2–3 GHz)and the P-(0.56–1.12 GHz)band receiver systems of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST).These OMTs operate at the cryogenic temperature of 70 K to reduce their thermal noise contribution to the receiver *** development on the FAST L-and S-band quad-ridged waveguide(QRWG)OMTs is carried out based on the theoretical mode *** view of the miniaturization of FAST cryogenic receiver system at P-band,a novel wideband compact bowtie dipole OMT is designed with an octave bandwidth as well as a length of only quarter *** proposed L-,S-and P-band OMTs are designed and optimized by using Ansys High Frequency Structure Simulator(HFSS),and then manufactured,tested at room *** of FAST cryogenic receiver system noise is also performed with the L-,S-and P-band OMTs *** measured results fully comply with the design specifications.

Specialized Pro-resolving Mediators Regulate Alveolar Fluid Clearance during Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
