T6-treated 20 wt% B4 Cp/6061 Al sheets were joined under welding speeds of 400–1200 mm/min by friction stir welding(FSW) with a threaded cermet pin. The macro-defect-free FSW joints could be achieved at high welding speeds up to 1200 mm/min, but larger plunge depth was required at the welding speeds of 800 and 1200 mm/min to eliminate the tunnel defect. In the nugget zone(NZ) of the joints, the B4 C particles were broken up and uniformly redistributed. The NZ exhibited lower hardness than the base metal(BM), and the hardness value almost did not change with increasing welding speed, attributable to the dissolution of precipitates. Compared with the BM, the joints showed lower tensile strength. As the welding speed increased from 400 to 800 mm/min, the joint efficiencies were nearly the same and up to ~ 73%. When the welding speed increased up to 1200 mm/min, the tensile strength significantly decreased, due to the occurrence of kissing bond defect at the bottom of the NZ. With increasing welding speed, the fracture location of the joints transferred gradually from the heat-affected zone to the NZ due to the kissing bond defects.

Nonlinear interaction between tearing modes(TM) and slab ion-temperature-gradient(ITG) modes is numerically investigated by using a Landau fluid model. It is observed that the energy spectra with respect to wavenumbers become broader during the transition phase from the ITG-dominated stage to TM-dominated stage. Accompanied with the fast growth of the magnetic island, the frequency of TM/ITG with long/short wavelength fluctuations in the electron/ion diamagnetic direction decreases/increases respectively. The decrease of TM frequency is identified to result from the effect of the profile flattening in the vicinity of the magnetic island, while the increase of the frequencies of ITG fluctuations is due to the eigenmode transition of ITG induced by the large scale zonal flow and zonal current related to TM. Roles of zonal current induced by the ITG fluctuations in the instability of TM are also analyzed. Finally, the electromagnetic transport features in the vicinity of the magnetic island are discussed.

Hydroxyapatite/titania (HA/TiO2) double layers were coated onto Ti scaffolds throughout for orthopaedic applications by sol-gel method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD) were used for the characterisation of the phase transformations of the dried gels and coated surface structures. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) was used for the observation and evaluation of the morphology and phases of the surface layers and for the assessment of the in vitro tests. The in vitro assessments were performed by soaking the HA/TiO2 double coated samples into the simulated body fluid (SBF) for various periods. The TiO2 dipping-coating method at a speed of 12 cm/min, followed by a heat treatment at 600 ℃ for 20 min. The HA la lyaeyre wr wasa ssu cbosaetqeude bnytl ya dipping-coated on the outer surface at the same speed and then heat-treated at difference temperatures. The results indicat that the HA phase begins to crystallize after a heat treatment at 560 ℃. The crystallinity increases obviously at 760 ℃. SEM observations find no delamination or crack at the interfaces of HA/TiO2 and TiO2/Ti. The HA/TiO2 coated Ti scaffolds displays excellent bone-like apatite forming ability when it is soaked into SBF. quantum computing has shown great potential in various quantum chemical applications such as drug discovery,material design,and catalyst *** significant progress has been made in the quantum simulation of simple molecules,ab initio simulation of solid-state materials on quantum computers is still in its early stage,mostly owing to the fact that the system size quickly becomes prohibitively large when approaching the thermodynamic *** this work,we introduce an orbital-based multifragment approach on top of the periodic density matrix embedding theory,resulting in a significantly smaller problem size for the current near-term quantum *** demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of our method compared with the conventional methodologies and experiments on solid-state systems with complex electronic *** include spin-polarized states of a hydrogen chain(1D-H),the equation of state of a boron nitride layer(h-BN)as well as the magnetic ordering in nickel oxide(NiO),a prototypical strongly correlated *** results suggest that quantum embedding combined with a chemically intuitive fragmentation can greatly advance quantum simulation of realistic materials,thereby paving the way for solving important yet classically hard industrial problems on near-term quantum devices.

The structure,specific heat,magnetic and electrical properties of MnTe1-xSbx（x=0,0.1,0.15,0.2 and 0.25） alloys have been *** MnTe1-xSbx alloys crystallize in a hexagonal NiAs-type structure,and the impurity of MnSb phase appears when x≥*** MnTe0.9Sb0.1 compound exhibits ferrimagnetic behavior with hysteresis loops even at 350 K,showing that the magnetic properties of MnTe compound are very sensitive to little compositional *** ferromagnetism in the MnTe1-xSbx alloys with higher Sb contents may be attributed to the impurity of MnSb *** dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis on the MnTe0.9Sb0.1 compound indicates that Sb is very difficult to dope into the lattice of *** the anomaly of resistivity at 300 K of MnTe0.9Sb0.1 and the peak of specific heat around 304 K of all the alloys are thought to be related with the antiferromagnetic interactions of MnTe-based lattice.

In the metallic components fabricated by the emerging selective laser melting(SLM)technology,most strategies used for strengthening the materials sacrifice the ductility,leading to the so-called strengthductility *** the present study,we report that the strength and ductility of materials can be enhanced simultaneously by introducing nanoparticles,which can break the trade-off of the metallic *** the case of in-situ nano-TiB_(2)decorated AlSi10Mg composites,the introduced nanoparticles lead to columnar-to-equiaxed transition,grain refinement and texture *** increasing content of nanoparticles,the strength increases ***,the ductility first increases and then *** results show that the ductility is controlled by the competition between the crack-induced catastrophic fracture and ductile fracture associated with dislocation *** first increase of ductility is mainly attributed to the suppression of crack-induced catastrophic fracture when TiB_(2)nanoparticles *** the further increase of TiB_(2)nanoparticles,the subsequent decrease of ductility is mainly controlled by dislocation ***,the materials will exhibit the optimum strength and ductility combination in a certain range of TiB_(2)*** study clarifies the physical mechanism controlling ductility for nano-TiB_(2)decorated Al Si10Mg composites,which provides the insights for the design of structural materials.

Gradient Structured Copper by Rotationally Accelerated Shot Peening

A new technology-rotationally accelerated shot peening（RASP）, was developed to prepare gradient structured materials. By using centrifugal acceleration principle and large steel balls, the RASP technology can produce much higher impact energy compared to conventional shot peening. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, the RASP was utilized to refine the surface layer in pure copper（Cu） with an average grain size of 85 nm. The grain size increases largely from surface downwards the bulk, forming an800 ？m thick gradient-structured surface layer and consequently a micro-hardness gradient. The difference between the RASP technology and other established techniques in preparing gradient structured materials is discussed. The RASP technology exhibits a promoting future for large-scale manufacturing of gradient materials.
