Assessment of knowledge, skill and attitude of oncology nurses in chemotherapy administration in tertiary hospital Pakistan

Objective: To measure the levels of nurse’s knowledge and attitude after the conduct of education session regarding chemotherapy administration and management. Methodology: This research study was conducted at two oncology units of tertiary Hospital Rawalpindi. A prepost test intervention study design was used on 35 nurses by using Verity’s tools. Results: The mean scores of knowledge were calculated by Cochran’s q test showed that knowledge scores have significantly increased with ‘educational training’ (p value < 0.001). The difference in the attitude of the nurses was not found to be statistically significant in repeated measure of ANOVA. Conclusion: The results show that knowledge is the weakest component and attitude is strongest component of oncology nurses ‘competencies in chemotherapy administration.

We report the fabrication and characterization of silicon carbide microdisks on top of silicon pillars suited for applications from near-to mid-infrared. We probe 10 μm diameter disks with different under-etching depths,from 4 μm down to 1.4 μm, fabricated by isotropic plasma etching and extract quality factors up to 8400 at telecom wavelength. Our geometry is suited to present high q single-mode operation. We experimentally demonstrate high-order whispering-gallery mode suppression while preserving the fundamental gallery mode and investigate some requirements for nonlinear optics applications on this platform, specifically in terms of quality factor and dispersion for Kerr frequency comb generation.

Self-referenced dissipative Kerr solitons (DKSs) based on optical microresonators offer prominent characteristics allowing for various applications from precision measurement to astronomical spectrometer calibration. To date,direct octave-spanning DKS generation has been achieved only in ultrahigh-q silicon nitride microresonators under optimized laser tuning speed or bi-directional tuning. Here we propose a simple method to easily access the octave-spanning DKS in an aluminum nitride (AlN) microresonator. In the design,two modes that belong to different families but with the same polarization are nearly degenerate and act as a pump and an auxiliary resonance,respectively. The presence of the auxiliary resonance can balance the thermal dragging effect,crucially simplifying the DKS generation with a single pump and leading to an enhanced soliton access window. We experimentally demonstrate the long-lived DKS operation with a record single-soliton step (10.4 GHz or83 pm) and an octave-spanning bandwidth (1100–2300 nm) through adiabatic pump tuning. Our scheme also allows for direct creation of the DKS state with high probability and without elaborate wavelength or power schemes being required to stabilize the soliton behavior.

Maize（Zea mays L.） root morphology exhibits a high degree of phenotypic plasticity to nitrogen（N） de ficiency,but the underlying genetic architecture remains to be investigated Using an advanced BC_4F_3 population,we investigated the root growth plasticity under two contrasted N levels and identi fied the quantitative trait loci（qTLs） with qTL-environment（q×E）interaction effects. Principal components analysis（PCA） on changes of root traits to N de ficiency（D LN-HN） showed that root length and biomass contributed for 45.8% in the same magnitude and direction on the first PC,while root traits scattered highly on PC_2 and PC_3. Hierarchical cluster analysis on traits for D LN-HN further assigned the BC_4F_3 lines into six groups,in which the special phenotypic responses to N de ficiency was presented These results revealed the complicated root plasticity of maize in response to N de ficiency that can be caused by genotype environment（G×E） interactions. Furthermore,qTL mapping using a multi-environment analysis identi fied 35 qTLs for root traits. Nine of these qTLs exhibited signi ficant q×E interaction effects. Taken together,our findings contribute to understanding the phenotypic and genotypic pattern of root plasticity to N de ficiency,which will be useful for developing maize tolerance cultivars to N de ficiency.

The acquisition of secondary chromosomal aberrations in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) karyotype signifies clonal evolution associated with the progression of the disease to its accelerated or blastic phase. Therefore, these aberrations have clinical and biological significance. T(3;12)(q26;p13), which is a recurrent chromosomal aberration observed in myeloid malignancies, is typically associated with dysplasia of megakaryocytes, multilineage involvement, short duration of any blastic phase, and extremely poor prognosis. We have identified a recurrent reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 3 and 12 with different breakpoint at bands 3q21 in the malignant cells from a 28-year-old man. The patient was initially diagnosed as having Ph+ CML in the chronic phase. The t(3;12)(q21;p13) translocation occurred 4 years after the patient was first diagnosed with CML while undergoing tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy. We confirmed the t(3;12)(q21;p13) translocation via fluorescence in situ hybridization assay by using whole-chromosome paint probes for chromosomes 3 and 12. Our findings demonstrate that, similar to other recurrent translocations involving 3q26 such as t(3;3) and t(3;21), the t(3;12)(q21;p13) translocation is implicated not only in myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia but also in the progression of CML. These findings extend the disease spectrum of this cytogenetic aberration.

Investigation of Combustion Characteristics of Premixed Propane/Air Flame

The combustion process in hydrocarbon fuels,?involves complicated chemical reactions associated with bond braking, radicals production and heat generation which are responsible for flames initiation. The conditions,?such as?pressure, temperature and mixture strength,?make a strong influence on combustion. This paper reports an investigation of combustion characteristics of premixed?propane/air flames and the effects of initial conditions on heat production rates, emissions (combustion products) and final equilibrium pressure and temperature values. Different mixtures concentrations were used in this study, including lean, stoichiometric and rich (f?= 0.8, 1.0, 1.2), subject to different pressures and temperatures ranging from 5?-?40 bars and 350?-?600 K, respectively.?Theelevated pressures and temperatures values were deliberately selected in this study to have more data available in the literature to fill in the gap in research and also to cover conditions that are similar to those in engines, in an attempt to have a better understanding on how to control emissions from these engines which is a major concern nowadays. Results show that rich mixture of propane fuel produces the highest rate for carbon monoxide (CO) with slight increase as pressure and temperature increase,?where the stoichiometric mixture produces the highest rate of carbon dioxide (CO2). It was noted that this type of emission decreases with the increase of pressure and temperature. On the other hand, nitric acid (NO) was found to be the highest for the lean mixture with sharp increase as pressure and temperature increase. Finally, the combustion heat (q)?is?extracted from each mixture which?plotted against pressure and it was also found that rich mixture of this fuel produces the highest and increases sharply with increased pressures and temperatures.

An estimation of combustion products (pollutants) which include CO, CO2 and NO mole fraction are reported in this paper for premixed methane/air flames. Different mixtures were used in this study, including lean, stoichiometric and rich subjected to varying degrees of pressures and temperatures ranging from 5 - 40 bars and 350 - 600 K, respectively. In this work, computer software was used to calculate the produced emissions species as well as the final (adiabatic) temperatures for each mixture. Results show that rich mixture of methane fuel produces the highest rate for carbon monoxide (CO) with slight increase as pressure and temperature increase. Where the stoichiometric mixture produces the highest rate of carbon dioxide (CO2). Results showed that this type of emission decreases with the increase of pressure and temperature. AIM To examine the influence on apoptotic mechanisms following inhibition of polo-like kinases as therapeuticallyapproach for cholangiocellular cancer treatment. METHODS As most cholangiocarcinomas are chemotherapyresistant due to mechanisms preventing tumor cell death, we investigated the effect of Cisplatin on cholangiocellular carcinoma(CCA) cell lines KMCH-1 and Mz-Ch-1. Polo-like kinases(PLK) are important regulators of the cell cycle and their inhibition is discussed as a potential therapy while PLK inhibition can regulate apoptotic mediators. Here, cells were treated with PLK inhibitor BI6727(Volasertib), Cisplatin, and in combination of both compounds. Cell viability was assessed by MTT; apoptosis was measured by DAPI staining and caspase-3/-7 assay. Western blot and q RT-PCR were used to measure expression levels of apoptosis-related molecules Bax and Bcl-2. RESULTS The cell viability in the CCA cell lines KMCH-1 and Mz-Ch-1 was reduced in all treatment conditions compared to vehicle-treated cells. Co-treatment with BI6727 and cisplatin could even enhance the cytotoxic effect of cisplatin single treatment. Thus, co-treatment of cisplatin with BI6727 could slightly enhance the cytotoxic effect of the cisplatin in both cell lines whereas there was evidence of increased apoptosis induction solely in Mz-Ch-1 as compared to KMCH-1. Moreover, PLK inhibition decreases protein levels of Bcl-2; an effect that can be reversed by the proteasomal degradation inhibitor MG-132. In contrast, protein levels of Bax were not found to be altered by PLK inhibition. These findings indicate that cytotoxic effects of Cisplatin in Mz-Ch-1 cells can be enhanced by co-treatment with *** In conclusion, BI6727 treatment can sensitize CCA cells to cisplatin-induced apoptosis with proteasomal Bcl-2 degradation as an additional pro-apoptotic effect.
