Lipid-lowering and antioxidant activities of a hydroalcoholic extract of cyperus scariosus Linn. root(HcS) were evaluated in guinea pigs fed with a high cholesterol diet. Serum lipid profile(total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-c, VLDL-c, and HDL-c), atherogenic indices and serum enzymes(ALT, AST, ALP, LDH, and cK-MB) were performed in each group at 0 days and at the end of 60 days. Histological study of liver and kidney was done in groups 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7. The total phenolic and flavonoid content in HcS and its antioxidant activity were evaluated by the DPPH assay. Both doses of HcS decreased serum lipid profile and atherogenic indices(P cS has lipid lowering, immunosuppressive and antioxidant properties, and mays have value in atherosclerosis prevention. The higher dose of HcS also reduced serum AST, ALP, and LDH levels and rosuvastatin increased AST and ALP levels(P creased lipid accumulation and improvement in hepatocytes in HcStreated animals. The antioxidant activity of HcS may be responsible for its lipid lowering and cytoprotective action. HcS had significant lipid lowering and antioxidant activity, which; may be due to the phenolic compounds. HcS may be a safe and cost effective alternative to current statin therapy for patients with dyslipidaemia.

Thermo-mechanical properties of mullite–zirconia composites derived from reaction sintering of zircon and sillimanite beach sand: Effect of caO

Mullite–zirconia composites containing 20% zirconia（mass fraction） were prepared by reaction sintering route utilizing Indian coastal zircon flour and sillimanite beach sand. 4%-12% of caO（mole fraction） with respect to zirconia was used as additive. The effect of additive on densification, microstructure as well as various mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties was studied. Incorporation of caO reduced the densification temperature of the composites to 1550 ℃ compared to 1600 ℃（for caO free samples）. caO formed small amount of liquid phase（calcium aluminosilicate）, which facilitated sintering. Average grain size of the composites decreased up to 4% caO addition, afterwards grain size increased with further addition of caO. Samples with 4% caO exhibited ～225 MPa of flexural strength, ～6 MPa·m^1/2 of fracture toughness and significant improvement in thermal shock resistance. caO stabilized the tetragonal zirconia phase and thus improved the mechanical properties.

Background:Rice is a major cereal crop and staple food of eastern India,and most farmers depend solely on rice for their *** farming provides both tangible and non-tangible benefits to ecosystems which need to be maintained and *** benefits are provided through ecosystem services(ES)that include both marketable and ***:In this study,the rice farms in eastern India were valued by quantifying the economic value of the services under conventional method of rice cultivation and the gap of ecosystem services value and farm income per unit area were assessed.A stratified random sampling technique was used in this study for selection of agro-climatic zones,districts,blocks,gram panchayat,and study units(households).Soil sampling was also performed for assessing the regulating services(biocontrol of pests,carbon flow,soil erosion,nitrogen fixation),provisioning services(food and by-products),and supporting services(soil fertility,hydrological flow,nutrient cycling,and soil formation).Results:The results indicated that the total economic value of ecosystem services ranged from US$1238 to 1688 ha−1 year−*** marketed(primary production)and non-marketed ecosystem services values ranged from 66–89 to 11–34%of the total,*** of some of the ecosystem services such as cultural services,biodiversity,and gas regulation,which may play a significant role in total ecosystem services,has not been made due to non-availability of data and appropriate methodology for rice *** values of parameters can explain the variability in ecosystem services among the agro-climatic zones in eastern *** of locations based on variability of ecosystem services helps in identifying intervention points for sustaining and improving ecosystem services,while permitting sustainable agro-ecological *** highest total economic gap between ES value and farm income was found in the north central plateau zone(US$

Effects of 42-year long-term fertilizer management on soil phosphorus availability, fractionation,adsorption–desorption isotherm and plant uptake in flooded tropical rice

Soil phosphorus(P) fractionation, adsorption, and desorption isotherm, and rice yield and P uptake were investigated in flooded tropical rice(Oryza sativa L.) following 42-year fertilizer and manure application. The treatments included low-input [unfertilized control without N, P, or K(c0N0)], farmyard manure(FYM)(c1N0), NP(c0NP), NPK(c0NPK), FYM + NP(c1NP), and high-input treatment, FYM + NPK(c1NPK). Grain yield was increased significantly by 74%over the control under the combined application of FYM + NPK. However, under low- and high-input treatments, yield as well as P uptake was maintained at constant levels for 35 *** the same period, high yield levels and P uptake were maintained under the c0 NP, c0 NPK,and c1 NPK treatments. These are unique characteristics of a tropical flooded ecosystem, which is a self-sustaining system for rice production. The Fe–P fraction was highest compared to the ca–P and Al–P fractions after 42 years of fertilizer application and was significantly higher under FYM + NPK treatment. The P adsorption capacity of soil was highest under the low-input treatment and lowest under long-term balanced fertilization(FYM + NPK). In contrast, P desorption capacity was highest under NPK and lowest in the control treatment. Long-term balanced fertilization in the form of FYM + NPK for 42 years lowered the bonding energy and adsorption capacity for P in soil but increased its desorption potential, increasing P availability to the plant and leading to higher P uptake and yield maintenance.

Nematodes play an important role in ecosystems;however,very little is known about their assembly processes and the factors influencing *** studied nematode communities in bulk soils from three Asian mountain ecosystems to determine the assembly processes of free-living nematode metacommunities and their driving *** each mountain,elevations span a range of climatic conditions with the potential to reveal assembly processes that predominate across multiple biomes.A phylogenetic null modeling framework was used to analyze 18S rRNA gene amplicons to quantify various assembly *** found that phylogenetic turnover between nematode communities on all mountains was dominated by stochastic processes,with“undominated processes”being the most predominant stochastic *** has a significant impact on the relative importance of deterministic and stochastic processes.A variety of climatic and edaphic variables significantly influenced the variations in community assembly processes with elevation,even though their impacts were not consistent between the ***,our results indicate that free-living nematode metacommunities in a wide range of environments are largely structured by stochastic processes rather than by niche-based deterministic processes,suggesting that metacommunities of soil free-living nematodes may respond to climate change in a largely unpredictable way.

尼泊尔低喜马拉雅推覆带油气苗来源不清极大地影响了该区油气勘探。在地质-地球物理综合调查的基础上,利用油气地球化学、碳同位素及生烃史模拟对尼泊尔代莱克地区油源和成藏过程进行了研究。结果表明:(1)尼泊尔代莱克地区油苗产于Padukasthan断裂,可分两期,第一期呈含油断层泥产出,氯仿沥青"A"为149~231μg/g,R_(o)为0.81%,氯仿沥青"A"的δ^(13)c相对较重(-26.24‰~-27.10‰),族组分具有正碳同位素序列,发黄绿色荧光,为典型的低熟煤成油,第二期呈液态油产出并遭受微生物降解,金刚烷I_(MD)指数为0.33~0.45,R_(o)为1.24%~1.53%,3,4-DMD含量46%~47%,全油δ^(13)c为-29.50‰~-29.45‰,族组分碳同位素趋于一致,发蓝色荧光,为海相成因高熟油;(2)第一期油来源于Surkhet群的Melpani组和Gondwana群煤系烃源岩,为Ⅲ型有机质低熟阶段的产物,第二期来源于Surkhet群的Swat组浅海陆棚相黑色页岩,为Ⅱ;型有机质生油高峰的产物,两期油与Lakharpata群过成熟黑色泥岩和Siwalik群未熟泥岩没有亲缘关系;(3)尼泊尔低喜马拉雅推覆带具有"多源多期、推覆增熟、砂体控储、披覆控聚"的油气成藏模式,油气成藏过程可划分为沉积浅埋、构造圈闭形成、深埋油藏形成、气藏形成和晚期改造定型5个演化阶段;(4)尼泊尔低喜马拉雅推覆有利于Gondwana群、Surkhet群深埋增温、持续快速生烃和晚期成藏,对比邻区巴基斯坦的含油气盆地,尼泊尔低喜马拉雅推覆带及相邻类似地区具备良好的油气成藏条件。

Prostate cancer (Pc) is one of the most common and leading cancer amongst the males all around the world. Depending upon it long latency and cost involved in its management and treatment, there is extensive need for more personalized and economical therapeutic approach for its effective therapy. The current review here discusses agents from natural dietary sources and drug class Non-Steroidal Antinflammatory (NSAIDS) that bears chemopreventive potential to regulate Pc progression & tumour development and therefore could be devised into effective future treatment strategy against Pc along with its metastatic castration-resistant form. Based on the literature search the therapeutic scope of selected agents are delineated, sighting their previous activity and prospects as epigenetic moderators in specific to particular Pc causing biomarkers like over expression of AKR1c3, lost intracellular glutathione/glutathione-s-tranferases(GSH/GST) expression, DNA hypermethylation, aberrant cell proliferation and other related factors that are thought to potentiate and aggravate the onset of Pc like smoking and use of other narcotics products.

chemical, isotopic and amino acid composition of Mukundpura cM2.0(cM1) chondrite: Evidence of parent body aqueous alteration

The carbonaceous chondrites are intriguing and unique in the sense that they are the only rocks that provide pristine records of the early solar nebular processes. We report here results of a detailed mineralogical, chemical, amino acid and isotopic studies of a recently observed fall at Mukundpura, near Jaipur in Rajasthan, India. Abundance of olivines in this meteorite is low and of serpentine minerals is high. FeO/SiO_2 = 1.05 in its Poorly characterized Phases(PcP) is similar to that observed in other cM2.0 chondrites. The water content of ～9.8 wt.% is similar to that found in many other cM *** examination of matrix shows that its terrestrial weathering grade is WO but aqueous parent body alteration is high, as reflected in low abundance of identifiable chondrules and abundant remnants of chondrules(～7%). Thus, most of the chondrules formed initially have been significantly altered or dissolved by aqueous alterations on their parent bodies. The measured bulk carbon(2.3%) and nitrogen content and their isotopic(δ^(13)c =-5.5‰, δ^(15)N = 23.6%0) composition is consistent with cM2.0 classification probably bordering cM1. Several amino acids such as Alanine, Serine, Proline, Valine, Threonine,Leucine, Isoleucine, Asparagine and Histamine are present. Tyrosine and Tryptophan may occur in trace amounts which could not be precisely determined. All these data show that Mukundpura chondrite lies at the boundary of cM2.0 and cM1 type carbonaceous chondrites making it one of the most primitive chondrites.
