Wood frog Lithoba.es sylva.icus ta.p.les develop.in temp.ra.y wetla.ds where high p.p.la.ion densities ca. force ta.p.les into a.grega.ions tha. intensify comp.tition a.d ca. lea. to ca.niba.ism. However, chemica. a.a.m cues relea.ed from injured consp.cifics could a.so dissua.e ca.niba.ism. The p.rp.se of this study wa. to test mecha.isms tha. ma. influence ca.- niba.istic beha.iour. We tested whether the tendency of ta.p.les to consume consp.cifics would increa.e with the p.esence of comp.tition a.d/or cues of p.ofita.le diets. Ta.p.les p.a.ed in 1L exp.rimenta. conta.ners were tested for feeding initia.ion times of multip.e diets, including consp.cific tissues a.d consp.cific tissues combined with chemica. cues from the a.terna.ive diets （brine shrimp.a.d comrnea.）. Ta.p.les were tested in the p.esence a.d a.sence of a.comp.titor, a.d a. multip.e times over the course of the study. Ta.p.les exhibited a. a.tered resp.nse to diets over time; however the p.esence of a.comp.titor reduced re- sp.nse times to a.l diets including consp.cific tissues. Simila.ly, the p.esence of sp.cific diets a.so reduced the resp.nse time of ta.p.les to consp.cific tissues. These results suggest comp.tition a.ong feeding ta.p.les could result in a.gressive beha.iour lea.ing to indiscrimina.e p.eda.ion a.d ca.niba.ism [Current Zoology 60 （5）： 571-580, 2014 ].
