Haptoglobin(HP)is a liver glycoprotein that is actively synthesized during in-flammatory and hemolytic *** also has pro-oxidant and proinflam-matory properties,which are a function of its *** genetic polymorp-hism of the chains leads to synthesis of three phenotypes/proteins,which are related to the number and type of chains and their molecular weight,namely HP1-1,HP1-2 and *** with HP2-2 have more vascular complications,while those with HP1-1 have *** is involved in the worsening of diseases,such as HP2-2 in aggravation of vaso-occlusive crises in sickle cell disease,and worsening of the pathophysiology of other *** contrast,HP1-1 confers better protection against *** of this suggests that further studies should be conducted,including experimental and analytical studies focused on de-monstrating the influence of different HP genotypes on individual clinical and hematological *** would help in understanding the role played by this genetic polymorphism in the pathophysiology of diseases.

The capital of Guinea, Conakry, faces a notable difficulty due to a water shortage, which is worsened by the rapid increase in population and urban development. The Guinean Water Company (SEG) faces challenges in supplying water to the entire city due to its limited area of approximately 420 km2 and a population of 2 million. Moreover, the population growth rate is anticipated to increase dramatically, exacerbating the difficulty of fulfilling future water requirements. As a result, this study employs data from the Knoema website and the Institute of National Statistics of Guinea (INS) to examine the water production and distribution process by the SEG. The study examines the challenges related to water scarcity in Conakry and suggests strategies to assist the city in managing the present circumstances and planning for the future. The primary objective is to get a long-lasting water supply and uphold water quality to advance public health.

A study was conducted in four compartments of a polycarbonate greenhouse at Gainesville,FL, USA to investigate how a soybean(Glycine max L. Merr.) cultivar, Maverick(maturity group III, indeterminate), responded to three elevated temperatures, ELT,(day/night of 34/26 °C, 38/30 °C, and 42/34 °C) in comparison to a control growth temperature(30/22 °C).Carbon dioxide(CO_2) concentration was maintained at 700 μmol mol^(-1) in each compartment by a processor controlled air-sampling and CO_2-injection system. Three sequential experiments were conducted at different times of year(summer, autumn, and early spring)to investigate the effect of intensity, timing, and duration of ELT on soybean node number,internode elongation, mainstem length, and number of pods set per plant. At the control temperature, the soybean plants grown in the polycarbonate greenhouse were taller than field-grown plants. When plants were grown under continuous ELT applied soon after sowing or at initial flowering, the number of nodes increased with increasing ELT intensity,whereas the length of individual internodes decreased. When ELT treatment was applied during the beginning of flowering stage(R1–R2) or earlier, more nodes were produced and the length of affected internodes was decreased. When the ELT was imposed later at reproductive stage R5+ just before the beginning of seed filling, effects on node numbers and internode lengths were negligible. Short-term(10-day) duration of ELT applied at four stages from V3 to R5+ did not significantly affect final mean numbers of nodes or mean mainstem lengths. Possible mechanisms of elevated temperature effects on soybean internode elongation and node number(internode number) are discussed. Total pod numbers per plant increased linearly with mainstem node numbers and mainstem ***, total pod numbers per plant were greatest at 34/26 °C rather than at the control temperature of 30/22 °C(and remained high at 38/30 °C). Changes in intramyocardial tissue pressure modulate the relationship between coronary pressure and flow during the cardiac cycle. The present study compared the relation between measured and calculated diastolic subendocardial tissue pressure and coronary pressure at zero flow in anesthetized dogs after modulation of either coronary sinus (i.e. Fogarty catheter) or left ventricular intracavity (i.e. volume loading) pressure. Experiments were conducted in anesthetized, instrumented dogs;coronary pressure flow relations were constructed during pharmacologic vasodilatation and intramyocardial tissue pressure was measured using micromanometer pressure sensors. Elevated coronary sinus pressures did not affect subendocardial pressure-flow relations signifying that diastolic tissue pressure within this layer is the effective coronary back pressure. Higher left ventricular intracavity pressure did not affect either diastolic subendocardial tissue pressure or pressure flow relations within this layer. Results show a direct linear relation (y = 1.106x - 0.652;r2 = 0.59. P = 0.001) between measured and calculated diastolic subendocardial tissue pressure and coronary pressure at zero-flow over a wide range of pressures after either LV systemic or coronary sinus pressure modulation. Knowledge of back pressure in the subendocardium is useful for the evaluation of efficacy of cardiac interventions on myocardial perfusion particularly at the level of the microcirculation.

AIM To examine the effect of high doses of vitamin C(VitC) on ex vivo human platelets(PLTs).METHODS Platelet concentrates collected for therapeutic or prophylactic transfusions were exposed to:(1) normal saline(control);(2) 0.3 mmol/L VitC(Lo VitC); or(3) 3 mmol/L VitC(Hi VitC, final concentrations) and stored appropriately. The Vit C additive was preservative-free buffered ascorbic acid in water, pH 5.5 to 7.0, adjusted with sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydroxide. The doses of Vit C used here correspond to plasma Vit C levels reported in recently completed clinical trials. Prior to supplementation, a baseline sample was collected for analysis. PLTs were sampled again on days 2, 5 and 8 and assayed for changes in PLT function by: Thromboelastography(TEG), for changes in viscoelastic properties; aggregometry, for PLT aggregation and adenosine triphosphate(ATP) secretion in response to collagen or adenosine diphosphate(ADP); and flow cytometry, for changes in expression of CD-31, CD41 a, CD62 p and CD63. In addition, PLT intracellular Vit C content was measured using a fluorimetric assay for ascorbic acid and PLT poor plasma was used for plasma coagulation tests [prothrombin time(PT), partial thrombplastin time(PTT), functional fibrinogen] and Lipidomics analysis(UPLC ESI-MS/MS).RESULTS VitC supplementation significantly increased PLTs intracellular ascorbic acid levels from 1.2 mmol/L at baseline to 3.2 mmol/L(Lo VitC) and 15.7 mmol/L(Hi VitC, P 0.05). PLT function assayed by TEG, aggregometry and flow cytometry was not significantly altered by Lo or Hi VitC for up to 5 d. However, PLTs exposed to 3 mmol/L VitC for 8 d demonstrated significantly increased R and K times by TEG and a decrease in the α-angle(P < 0.05). The ulnar collateral ligament(UCL) is a vital structure to the overhead athlete,especially the baseball *** reasons not completely understood,UCL injurieshave become increasingly more common in major league baseball(MLB) pitchers over the past 10 *** reconstruction(UCLR) is the current gold standard of treatment for these injuries in MLB pitchers who wish to return to sport(RTS) at a high level and who have failed a course of non-operative *** following UCLR in MLB pitchers have been encouraging,with multiple RTS rates now cited at greater than 80%.Unfortunately,with the rising number of UCLR,there has also been a spike in the number of revision UCLR in MLB *** to primary UCLR,the etiology of the increase in revision UCLR,aside from an increase in the number of pitchers who have undergone a primary UCLR,remains *** current literature has attempted to address several questions including those surrounding surgical technique(method of exposure,graft choice,management of the ulnar nerve,concomitant elbow arthroscopy,etc.),post-operative rehabilitation strategies,and timing of RTS following *** some questions have been answered,many remain *** literature surrounding UCLR in MLB pitchers will be reviewed,and future directions regarding this injury in these high level athletes will be discussed.
