This study investigated the possible use of four agro-forest residues generated in Ghana as an alternative raw m.terial for particleboard m.nufacture using cassava starch and urea form.ldehyde as adhesives. The particle size of the m.terials ranged from.0.5 m. to 1.5 m.. An industrial pressing m.chine was used to press the hom.geneous single layer particleboard. Physical and m.chanical properties were determ.ned in accordance with ASTm.D 1037-06a and ASTm.D 7519-11. The results indicate that the density of the particleboards produced ranged from.421 kg/m.sup>3 to 598 kg/m.sup>3. The water absorption property of the particleboards also ranged from.7.66% to 22.41% and 18.17% to 59.46% for 2-hour and 24-hour im.ersions respectively. Additionally, the thickness swelling of the particleboards ranged from.3.38% to 5.03% and 9.37% to 21.49% for 2-hour, and 24-hour im.ersions respectively. The results further indicate that the m.dulus of elasticity, m.dulus of rapture, internal bond strength and hardness of the particleboards produced for both cassava starch and urea form.ldehyde were adequate. Com.aratively, for all the agro-forest m.terials used for this study, the physical and m.chanical properties of the particleboards produced using urea form.ldehyde as adhesive was better than those produced using cassava starch as adhesive. It could be concluded that the particleboards produced could be used for indoor applications or interior furnishings, under dry conditions. Additionally, it is recom.ended that further studies that com.ine cassava starch and urea form.ldehyde as adhesives be conducted, as well as studies on com.ining m.Plantain pseudostem./em. and Cacao pod in particleboard production.

Introduction: Online gam.ling is becom.ng increasingly popular worldwide. With its well-crafted visual and audio m.rketing, it is attracting m.re and m.re young people in Africa, where problem. linked to em.loym.nt and poverty are underm.ning youth. The consequences of gam.ng-related practices for health in general, and m.ntal health in particular, are not negligible. The aim.of this study was to m.asure the extent of the phenom.non within an urban com.unity in Benin. m.thods: Descriptive cross-sectional study with analytical aim.conducted in the general population of Parakou, northern Benin, from.Decem.er 2021 to Novem.er 2022. A self-adm.nistered questionnaire incorporating DSm.5 criteria for pathological gam.ling was used to collect data. Results: A total of 576 subjects divided into 30 clusters of 19 to 20 individuals consented to participate in the study. The proportion of gam.lers was 30.56%. The prevalence of pathological gam.ling calculated according to DSm.5 criteria was 24.65% [21.31% - 28.33%] in the general population. The prevalence of severe pathological gam.ling was estim.ted at 8.16% [5.96% - 10.44%] in the general population. The prevalence of anxiety was 28.30% ([24.62% - 31.98%]), com.ared with 15.10% ([12.18% - 18.02%]) for depression. Factors with a significant association with pathological gam.ling were: age, access to online gam.ling, access to video gam.s, exposure to gam.ling advertisem.nt, having gam.ling friends, debt accum.lation. A statistically significant link was also found between pathological gam.ling and anxiety/depression. Conclusion: The reality of pathological gam.ling in northern Benin calls for effective preventive action am.ng vulnerable groups at national level, involving various actors at different levels.

Background: The developm.nt of anitiretroviral drug resistance m.y lim.t the benefit of antiretroviral therapy. Therefore the need to closely m.nitor these m.tations, especially the use of ART is increasing. This study was therefore designed to determ.ne the ARV drug resistance pattern am.ng ART na?ve and expose individuals attending a PEPFAR supported by antiretroviral clinic in Nigeria. m.thodology: The study participants included patients attending the PEPFAR supported by University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan ART clinic who have been on HIV treatm.nt for at least one year with consecutive viral load of over 2000 copies/m. as well som. ART Na?ve individuals with high (>50,000 copies/m.) baseline viral level attending the hospital for pre-ART assessm.nt. Blood sam.le was collected from.each individual for CD4 enum.ration, viral load level determ.nation and DNA sequencing for genotypic typing. Antiretroviral drug resistance m.tations (DRm. were determ.ned by using the Viroseq software and drug m.tations generated by using a com.ination of Viroseq and Stanford algorithm. DRm.were classified as m.jor or m.nor m.tations based on the June 2013 Stanford DR database. Results: The m.st com.on m.jor NRTI, NNRTI and PI m.tation were D67N (33.3%), Y181C (16.7%) and m.6L/I (55.6%) respectively. Lam.vudine (3TC) and em.ricitabine (FTC);nevirapine (NVP) and nelfinavir (NFV) were the m.st com.on NRTI, NNRTI, and PI drugs to which the virus in the infected individuals developed resistance. Isolates from.4 patients were resistant to triple drug class, including at least one NRTI, NNRTI and a PI. Only one (4.8%) of the isolates from.drug Na?ve individuals had m.jor DRm.that conferred resistance to any drug. Conclusion: Dem.nstration of high rates of antiretroviral DRm.am.ng patients on 1st and 2nd line ART and the presence of DRm.in drug Na?ve individuals in this study show the im.ortance of surveillance for resistance to ARV in line with the m.gnitude of scaling up of treatm.nt

Introduction: The developm.nt of digital technology over the last few decades has facilitated access to websites and videos in the field of sexuality, elim.nating m.ny of the boundaries that were restrictive for som. and protective for others. While this evolution has favored better inform.tion sharing, it has also precipitated the em.rgence of an entirely new phenom.non: cybersexuality. Objective: The aim.of this study was to investigate addiction to cybersexuality in schools in the city of Parakou in 2023. m.thods: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in general, technical and vocational secondary schools in Parakou, northern Benin, from.Decem.er 2022 to Septem.er 2023. A self-adm.nistered questionnaire integrating the “short Internet sex Addiction Test” (s-IATsex) scale was used to assess cybersexuality. Results: A total of 482 students participated in the study. The prevalence of problem.tic use of cybersexuality in Parakou schools was 11.4% according to the s-IATsex (Short Internet sex Addiction Test) scale. The average age of the students was 16.99 ± 2.16 years, with extrem.s of 11 and 30 years. The m.jority were in secondary school (67.8%). Factors associated with addiction to cybersexuality were: place of residence (OR = 0.164;p = 0.017), external genitalia discharge (OR = 5.37;p = 0.049), sexual partner (OR = 2.53;p = 0.010), access to pornographic sites (OR = 7.96;p m.tely one pupil in 10 is addicted to cybersexuality at school in the town of Parakou/Parakou city, Benin. The m.ltiple consequences of this addiction call for effective preventive actions aim.d at vulnerable groups of pupils.

Aim.: We aim.d at identifying the high-risk HPV genotypes associated with high-grade dysplastic cervical lesions in Burkina Faso. The available vaccines to Burkina Faso only protect against two high risk HPV genotypes: HPV 16 and 18. Are the genotypes identified in the high-grade precan-cerous lesions in this survey covered by the available vaccines? m.thods: The detection and genotyping of high-risk HPV have been conducted based on 118 form.lin-fixed and paraffin-em.edded archived tissues using the “HPV Genotypes 14 Real-Tm.Quant” (Sacace biotechnologies®, Italy) kit allowing for the detection of fourteen high-risk HPV genotypes: HPV 16, 31, 18, 39, 45, 59, 33, 35, 56, 68, 51, 52, 58 and 66. Results: The prevalence of high-risk HPV infections was 48.8% based on the appropriate PCR results (21/43). The m.st com.on HPV genotypes were HPV 39 (21.7%), HPV 35 (13.0%) and HPV 45 (13.0%). Two cases of m.ltiple infections between HPV 39 - 45 and HPV 39 - 59 have been observed. HPV 16 was not detected in this study. Conclusions: We noted a high prevalence rate for HPV 39, HPV 35 and HPV 45, which are not covered by the com.ercial vaccines. We also found that the prevalence of HPV 18 was very low in this study and HPV 16 was not detected.

Epidem.ological and Psychosocial Profile of Juvenile Delinquency: Case Study of Delinquent Children and Adolescents under Court Order in Benin (2015)

Background: Given the scale of juvenile delinquency in Benin, fam.lies, judicial bodies and the society seem.d overwhelm.d. The objective was to study the epidem.ological and psychosocial profile of delinquent children and adolescents under court order (DCAUCO) in Benin civil prisons in 2015. m.thods of study: It was a descriptive and cross-sectional study which involved 117 children aged 11 to 18 years, recruited from.6th m.y to 10th Septem.er 2015 in nine Civil Prisons and a Child and Adolescent Care Center in Benin. Data were collected through face-to-face interview between the interviewer and the interviewee in addition to ASSIST-WHO, Fam.ly Assessm.nt Device and ParentalAcceptance and Rejection Scale. Results: The average age was 16.1 ± 1.1 years, ranging from.11 to 18 years. Sex ratio m.F was 22.4. School dropout rate was 76.9%. Orphans represented 53.9%. The proportion of juvenile offenders com.ng from.broken fam.lies was 30.8%. Theft (46.2%) and rape (19.7%) were the m.in offenses com.itted. 99.1% had no crim.nal records and the judge requested for all of them.a detention warrant. Psychoactive substance consum.tion records (46.2%) were found, including: alcohol (46.2%), tobacco (23.9%), and cannabis (10.3%). They felt m.ternal and paternal absence respectively in 48.7% and 44.4% cases and pleaded guilty in 71.8%. Pleading guilty was a resilience factor on which the counseling would have to rely for their rehabilitation and social reintegration.

Induction of Apoptosis in the Hum.n Prostate Cancer Cell Line DU-145 by a Novel m.cronutrient Form.lation

Prostate cancer, the m.st frequently diagnosed cancer in m.n, prim.rily affects m.les aged 55 and older and is m.re com.on in African Am.ricans than Caucasians. Once the cancer has m.tastasized, current treatm.nts are generally ineffective. We have identified a novel anti-neoplastic agent, a specifically designed nutrient m.xture (Nm., containing ascorbic acid, lysine, proline and green tea extract that dem.nstrates a broad spectrum.of anti-tum.r activity against a num.er of hum.n cancer cell lines. In a previous study Nm.significantly inhibited prostate tum.r in nude m.ce. In this study, we tested whether the form.lation exerts its anti-tum.r effects through induction of apoptosis on prostate cancer cell line DU-145. The effect of the nutrient m.xture (Nm. on cell growth inhibition in DU-145 cells was exam.ned by 3-(4,5-dim.thylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium.brom.de (m.T) assay. m.rphological changes and caspase activation associated with apoptosis induction was checked by H&E staining and Live Green Caspase assay, respectively. The Nm.was found to be slightly toxic to DU-145 cells at 100 μg/m., but significantly toxic at 500 μg/m. and 1000 μg/m.. Percentage of cells undergoing apoptosis also increased from.6% at 100 μg/m. to 49% at 500 μg/m. and 83% at 1000 μg/m., with greater num.er of cells showing m.rphological changes such as condensed nuclei and an acidophilic cytoplasm.at higher concentrations. For the purpose of com.arison, Nm.was also tested on a norm.l hum.n derm.l fibroblast (NHDF) cell line which exhibited far less apoptosis induction as com.ared to DU-145 cells. The percentage of cells undergoing apoptosis in case of NHDF cells was 7% at 100 μg/m., 25.6% at 500 μg/m. and 76.5% at 1000 μg/m.. Our results dem.nstrate that the Nm.is effective in inhibiting cancer cell viability and inducing apoptosis in prostate cancer DU-145 cells and can thus be used as an effective treatm.nt for prostate cancer.
