Stream.sedim.nt sam.les were analyzed for the concentrations of som. trace m.tals in the Obuasi gold m.ning environm.nt, Ghana. The objectives were to determ.ne the possible im.acts of m.ning operations in the area on sedim.nts’ trace m.tal load, and the resulting effects on agriculture and livelihoods. The concentrations of arsenic (As), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), with calcium.(Ca) as reference elem.nt, were com.ared to their respective background concentrations to calculate the enrichm.nt and contam.nation factors, and also geo-accum.lation and pollution load indices of each trace m.tal. These were in turn com.ared to standard tables to determ.ne the status of contam.nation. Q-m.de hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was then applied to the sam.les for spatial classification. This study suggests probable contribution of m.ning and associated activities in the Obuasi area to the concentrations of trace m.tals especially arsenic, in the stream.sedim.nts. Three spatial relationships were revealed based on the concentrations of these trace m.tals from.the Q-m.de HCA. The sam.les presented generally high concentrations, which were m.re profound for sam.les taken closer to holding pond and tailings dam., and decreased downstream.

Spatial variations in the essential aquifer param.ters obtained through regular aquifer tests were evaluated for som. aquifers of the Neoproterozoic sedim.ntary aquifers of the Voltaian Basin. Ordinary least squares regression m.dels have also been developed to relate aquifer transm.ssivity and specific capacity, and well yield and transm.ssivity. These analyses suggest that in the northern parts of the Voltaian, aquifer transm.ssivity exists in a non-linear relationship with specific capacity and yield. This is in keeping with the findings of previous research in the southern part of the Voltaian, and deviates from.the regular Dupuit-Thiem.relationship between the two m.jor aquifer param.ters. Lithology specific m.dels have been developed in this study. The exponent of the non-linear m.dels appears to be related to the lithology, and tends to approach unity in the m.dstone and siltstone aquifers, whilst m.nifesting obvious departures from.nonlinearity am.ngst the sandstone aquifers. This study finds that the sandstone aquifers are the m.st prolific and offer them.elves as the best lithologies for drilling successful wells in the area. Linear prediction m.ps suggest that the m.st prolific aquifers are located in the northern parts of the study area, where aquifer transm.ssivity, specific capacity, and well yield values are quite high due to enhanced secondary perm.abilities. There has been no obvious relationship between the m.jor aquifer param.ters and static water levels, which are quite high in the m.ddle and western sections of the study area. The hydrogeological properties of rocks within the Voltaian appear to be based on discrete structural entities which m.nifest high variability in the study area. Even within the sam. lithology, standard deviations are quite high in the data for all the aquifer param.ters exam.ned in this study.

Characteristics of term.te m.unds and associated Rhodic Acrisol and Haplic Acrisol in the coastal savanna zone of Ghana and their im.act on hydraulic conductivity were assessed. The texture of the m.unds was sandy clay in contrast to the sandy clay loam.of the surface soils. Translocation of fine to m.dium.sized soil m.terials influenced the relatively higher bulk density (>1.60 m./m.) and contents of organic carbon, nitrogen and exchangeable bases in the m.unds. Kaolinite was the dom.nant clay m.neral with pH values generally below 5.3 in all the soils reflecting the weathered tropical soil environm.nt. Dispersion ratio values, which were 0.5 for the surface soils, indicated greater stability of the m.und due to aggregate cem.nting action by the term.tes. Estim.ted m.und density was about 120 m.unds per ha, which tied in with known groundwater reserves at the study sites. m.jority of the m.unds exhibited a cone-shaped m.rphology with heights varying between 3.05-4.00 m.in the Rhodic Acrisol and 2.05-4.20 m.in the Haplic Acrisol with corresponding estim.ted total m.ss of 96,361 kg and 54,910 kg per 1000 m. land area. These estim.tes represented a large am.unt of m.terial relative to the 25,000-26,000 kg of surface soil m.terial within the sam. unit area. The K in the surface soils ranged from.3.3 x 10-5 to 5.0 x 10-5 m.s while the value for the m.und was ≤0.5 x 10-5 m.s. Lower porosity, θ;the effect was m.re pronounced when the m.und was applied on the soil surface. Im.rovem.nt in water retention and nutrient availability to plants and prevention of leaching to avoid groundwater contam.nation are som. of the positive attributes of this study.

Objective: To study the problem.tic use of video gam.s am.ng secondary school students in the city of Parakou in 2023. m.thods: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in the com.une of Parakou from.Decem.er 2022 to July 2023. The study population consisted of students regularly enrolled in public and private secondary schools in the city of Parakou for the 2022-2023 academ.c year. A two-stage non-proportional stratified sam.ling technique com.ined with sim.le random.sam.ling was adopted. The Problem.Video Gam. Playing (PVP) scale was used to assess problem.gam.ling in the study population, while anxiety and depression were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Results: A total of 1030 students were included. The m.an age of the pupils surveyed was 15.06 ± 2.68 years, with extrem.s of 10 and 28 years. The [13 - 18] age group was the m.st represented, with a proportion of 59.6% (614) in the general population. Fem.les predom.nated, at 52.8% (544), with a sex ratio of 0.89. The prevalence of problem.tic video gam. use was 24.9%, m.asured using the Video Gam. Playing scale. Associated factors were m.le gender (p = 0.005), pocket m.ney under 10,000 cfa (p = 0.001) and between 20,000 - 90,000 cfa (p = 0.030), addictive fam.ly behavior (p m.nogam.us fam.ly (p = 0.023), good relationship with father (p = 0.020), organization of video gam. com.etitions (p = 0.001) and definite anxiety (p Conclusion: Substance-free addiction is struggling to attract the attention it deserves, as it did in its infancy everywhere else. This study com.lem.nts existing data and serves as a rem.nder of the need to focus on this group of addictions, whose problem.tic use of video gam.s rem.ins the m.st frequent due to its accessibility and social tolerance. Preventive action com.ined with curative m.asures rem.ins the m.st effective m.ans of com.ating the problem.at national level.

Introduction: Post-traum.tic stress disorder (PTSD) is defined as “actual exposure to death or the threat of death, serious injury or sexual violence”, either directly or indirectly, resulting in a sym.tom.tic procession of repetition, avoidance, neurovegetative hyperactivity and individualized sym.tom., with or without negative cognitive and m.od changes. It therefore goes without saying that the defence and security forces constitute a high-risk population in need of attention. Objective: To study post-traum.tic stress disorder in defence and security forces in the city of Parakou in 2023. m.thods: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from.Decem.er 2022 to July 2023. The study population consisted of active m.litary, republican police and firefighters in the city of Parakou in 2023. Non-proportional stratified sam.ling was used, given the inaccessibility of the source population size for national security reasons. Post-traum.tic stress disorder was assessed using the “post-traum.tic stress disorder checklist-5 (PCLS-5) scale. Results: A total of 305 subjects participated in the survey. m.les dom.nated 90.2%. The m.st represented corps was the Republican Police (41.6%), m.st of whom.were non-com.issioned officers (46.6%). The m.jority count between 11 and 20 years of service (48.9%), with 2 to 5 m.ssions com.leted (67.5%). The calculated prevalence of post-traum.tic stress disorder was 11.8%, based on the post-traum.tic stress disorder checklist-5 (PCL-5). Of the 36 respondents with post-traum.tic stress disorder, 20 (55.6%) had experienced an arm.d attack, 25 (69.4%) had witnessed a violent death, 18 (50.0%) had witnessed the agony of a colleague, 15 (41.7%) had been exposed to a fire or explosion, while 26 (72.2%) had been traum.tized by physical and/or verbal aggression. 5 (13.9%) had consulted a specialist psychiatrist, while 6 (16.7%) were on m.dication and 26 (72.2%) used sport as a m.ans of m.intaining physical and m.ntal health. Objective: The aim.of the present study was to investigate the psychic repercussions of sexual assault am.ng fem.le students in Parakou in 2023. m.thods: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from.Decem.er 2022 to July 2023 am.ng all students at the University of Parakou. The sam.ling technique was stratified non-proportional at two levels. The dependent variable was self-reported sexual assault. The psychopathological repercussions linked to sexual assault and explored in these students were: post-traum.tic stress disorder assessed with the Post Traum.tic Stress Disorder Checklist-5 (PCL-5) scale;and current depression screened with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale. Results: A total of 376 fem.le students from.the University of Parakou m.eting the inclusion criteria were surveyed. The average age of the subjects surveyed was 20.56 ± 2.46 years, with extrem.s of 16 and 32 years. A predom.nance of subjects under 25 was observed. The prevalence of sexual assault am.ng fem.le students at the University of Parakou was 10.63%. The types of aggression suffered were m.stly rape (18 people;45%) and sexual touching (16 people;40%), and the aggressors were m.inly friends/boyfriends (13;32.5%), fam.ly m.m.ers (12;30.0%) and people from.the house/neighborhood (9;22.5%). Psychological repercussions included depression in 72.5% (29) of cases, with m.ld depression in 30% (12), m.derate depression in 37.5% (15) and severe depression in 5% (2). Anxiety disorders were present in 27.50% (11) of victim.. The risk factors associated with sexual assault in these students were gravidity (p = 0.014;OR = 15.32), unhappy life events (p = 0.01;OR = 17.24), and age of first sexual intercourse (p = 0.016;OR = 4.608). Conclusion: One in ten fem.le students in Parakou has been sexually assaulted. Introduction: From.their earliest hours, hum.n beings are able to identify a source of food and to feed them.elves. Feeding is therefore one of the m.st instinctive hum.n functions. It is regulated by several factors (physiological, psycho-affective and environm.ntal) whose disruption can lead to eating disorders. Objective: The aim.of this study was to investigate eating disorders am.ng students in the town of Parakou in 2023. m.thod: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from.January to July 2023 in various universities in the city of Parakou, Benin. The study population consisted of all students in grades 1 to 7 at these universities. A two-stage non-proportional stratified sam.ling technique com.ined with a sim.le random.draw was adopted. The Eating Attitude Test-26, Bulim.a Inventory Test Edinburgh and a set of questions focusing on the diagnostic criteria for pica were used to screen for pica and other disorders such as anorexia, bulim.a nervosa and binge eating disorder. Data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 25. Results: A total of 607 students were surveyed, 323 of whom.had eating disorders. A prevalence of 53.21% of students at risk of eating disorders was found. In relation to the total population, the prevalences of anorexia, bulim.a nervosa, binge eating disorder and pica were 45.96%, 0.82%, 15.48% and 12.68% respectively. In m.ltivariate analysis, seven factors explained the risk to develop at least one eating disorder am.ng the students surveyed. Introduction: Also known as m.ternal burnout syndrom., m.ternal burnout is a state of physical, em.tional and m.ntal exhaustion generated by prolonged stress in the fam.ly environm.nt. It is experienced by wom.n in their role as m.thers. Those affected can develop psychological disorders, sleep disturbances, etc., all of which im.air their day-to-day lives, and thus their m.ternal role. The repercussions affect both the child and other fam.ly m.m.ers. Objective: The aim.of the present study was to investigate m.ternal burnout am.ng fem.le users of public and private health facilities in the com.une of Parakou in 2023. m.thods: Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from.Decem.er 2022 to July 2023 am.ng all m.thers using public and private health facilities in the com.une of Parakou. All healthy m.thers with at least one biological or adoptive child fully dependent on them.and living at hom., who cam. for a consultation in one of the health facilities or for an appointm.nt at the Expanded Program.on Im.unization (EPI) and gave their free and inform.d consent. Sam.ling was done for non-exhaustive convenience were included in the study. Burnout was assessed using the Parental Burnout Assessm.nt (PBA) scale. Results: A total of 888 m.thers m.eting the inclusion criteria were surveyed. The prevalence of burnout calculated using the Parental Burnout Assessm.nt (PBA) scale was 6.19%. The risk factors for m.ternal burnout were poor relationships with fam.ly and friends (OR = 8.90;p = 0.045), m.derate (OR = 11.71;p = 0.020) and severe depression (OR = 40.85;p = 0.001), followed by the presence of repeated nocturnal awakening (OR = 5.14;p = 0.014). Conclusion: This is a subject that is alm.st never discussed in African society, but whose reality is revealed by the present study, which provided statistical data on m.ternal burnout. From.now on, the risk of burnout will no longer be discussed solely in the fam.ly context. It will also need to be explored within the fam
