Cloud computing facilities can provide crucial computing support for processing the time series of satellite data and exploiting their spatio-temporal information ***,dedicated efforts are still required to develop workflows,executable on cloud-based platforms,for ingesting the satellite data,performing the targeted processes,and generating the desired *** this study,an operational workflow is proposed,based on monthly Evaporative Stress Index(ESI)anomaly,and implemented in cloud-based online Virtual Earth Laboratory(VLab)platform,as a demonstration,to monitor European agricultural water *** this end,daily time-series of actual and reference evapotranspiration(ETa and ET0),from the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager(SEVIRI)sensor,were used to execute the proposed workflow successfully on *** execution of the workflow resulted in obtaining one decade(2011–2020)of European monthly agricultural water stress maps at 0.04˚spatial resolution and corresponding stress reports for each *** support open science,all the workflow outputs are stored in GeoServer,documented in GeoNetwork,and made available through *** enables creating a dashboard for better visualization of the results for *** results from this study demonstrate the capability of VLab platform for water stress detection from time series of SEVIRI-ET data.

Monitoring of central corneal thickness after phacoemulsification—comparison of statical and rotating Scheimpflug pachymetry,and spectral-domain OCT

AIM:To explore the possibility of deploying three contactless devices(static and rotating Scheimpflug technology,spectral domain optical coherence tomography)for measuring central corneal thickness(CCT)in preoperative and postoperative examinations of cataract ***:Totally 72 patients who had undergone surgery without complications were *** CCT was measured prior to the operation,as well as on the first,5th-7th and 28th day following the operation using the Nidek NT 530-P,Sirius?,and Topcon OCT-2000 ***:A significant postoperative increase and subsequent decrease in CCT was identified with all three *** correlations were highly significant and thus reflect a very good degree of comparability at all times with the exception of the rotating Scheimpflug *** postoperative results from the latter differed significantly from the other *** correlations were Sirius/Topcon(P=0.010)and Sirius/Nidek(P<0.0005).No statistically significant difference could be identified in the comparison between Topcon and Nidek(P=0.056).CONCLUSION:All three devices are suitable for postoperative monitoring of *** measurement results are only comparable to a limited extent and not interchangeable in the course of treating a single *** is due to the different imaging technology used in the devices and the resulting modalities for conducting the measurements.

Nafion/polypyrrole and Nafion/DMSO Organic Coatings for Magnesium Protection

Nafion/polypyrrole and Nafion/Dimethysulfoxid (DMSO) organic coatings were prepared on the surface of pure magnesium by simple immersion and heat treatment. The morphologies and corrosion resistance of the organic coatings were investigated by using optical microscopy and electrochemical corrosion testing, respectively. It is shown that Nafion/polypyrrole organic coatings resulted in the corrosion resistance of magnesium decreasing; while Nafion/DMSO organic coatings can effectively improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium. Also, the corrosion resistance increased with the thickness of the Nafion/DMSO organic coating increased.

Vessel density in OCT angiography permits differentiation between normal and glaucomatous optic nerve heads

AIM：To evaluate whether optical coherence tomography angiography（OCTA） can detect altered vessel density（VD） at the optic nerve head（ONH） in glaucoma *** attention is paid to the accuracy of the OCTA technique for distinguishing healthy from glaucomatous ***：A total of 171 eyes were examined by the OCTA system Angio Vue^TM（Optovue）：97 eyes diagnosed with glaucoma and 74 healthy control *** papillary and peripapillary VD was ***,the VD was correlated with different structural and functional *** order to test the accuracy of differentiation between eyes with and without glaucoma,we calculated the receiver operating characteristic curve（ROC） and the area under the curve（AUC）.RESULTS：The papillary and peripapillary VD in glaucomatous eyes was significantly lower than in healthy eyes（P〈0.05）.The VD of the nasal peripapillary sector was significantly lower than in the other *** further the disease had progressed [measured by determining the thickness of the ganglion cell complex（GCC） and the retinal nerve fiber layer（RNFL）] the greater the VD *** AUC discriminated well between glaucomatous and normal eyes（consensus classifier 94.2%）.CONCLUSION：OCTA allows non-invasive quantification of the peripapillary and papillary VD,which is significantly reduced in glaucomatous eyes and accurately distinguishes between healthy and diseased *** expands the spectrum of procedures for detecting and monitoring glaucoma.

A computational fluid dynamics model for wind simulation:model implementation and experimental validation

To provide physically based wind modelling for wind erosion research at regional scale, a 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) wind model was developed. The model was programmed in C language based on the Navier-Stokes equations, and it is freely available as open source. Integrated with the spatial analysis and modelling tool (SAMT), the wind model has convenient input preparation and powerful output visualization. To validate the wind model, a series of experiments was con- ducted in a wind tunnel. A blocking inflow experiment was designed to test the performance of the model on simulation of basic fluid processes. A round obstacle experiment was designed to check if the model could simulate the influences of the obstacle on wind field. Results show that measured and simulated wind fields have high correlations, and the wind model can simulate both the basic processes of the wind and the influences of the obstacle on the wind field. These results show the high reliability of the wind model. A digital elevation model (DEM) of an area (3800 m long and 1700 m wide) in the Xilingele grassland in Inner Mongolia (autonomous region, China) was applied to the model, and a 3D wind field has been successfully generated. The clear imple- mentation of the model and the adequate validation by wind tunnel experiments laid a solid foundation for the prediction and assessment of wind erosion at regional scale.

Teriflunomide provides protective properties after oxygen-glucose-deprivation in hippocampal and cerebellar slice cultures

One of the major challenges in emergency medicine is out-of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA).Every year,about 53–62/100000 people worldwide suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest with serious consequences,whereas persistent brain injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality of those surviving a cardiac ***,only few and insufficient strategies are known to limit neurological damage of ischemia and reperfusion *** aim of the present study was to investigate whether teriflunomide,an approved drug for treatment of relapsing-remitting-multiple-sclerosis,exerts a protective effect on brain cells in an in vitro model of ***,organotypic slice cultures from rat hippocampus and cerebellum were exposed to oxygen-glucose-deprivation and subsequently treated with *** administration of teriflunomide in the reperfusion time on both hippocampal and cerebellar slice cultures significantly decreased the amount of detectable propidium iodide signal compared with an untreated culture,indicating that more cells survive after ***,hippocampal slice cultures showed a higher vulnerability to ischemic conditions and a more sensitive response to teriflunomide compared with cerebellar slice *** study suggests that teriflunomide,applied as a post-treatment after an oxygenglucose-deprivation,has a protective effect on hippocampal and cerebellar cells in organotypic slice cultures of *** procedures were conducted under established standards of the German federal state of North Rhine Westphalia,in accordance with the European Communities Council Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes.

Assessing hydrological and provisioning ecosystem services in a case study in Western Central Brazil

Introduction:Current land use in the Federal District,Western Central Brazil,causes problems related to the water supply which are linked to the regulation of ecosystem services(ES).In scope of an Integrated Water Resources Management concept,we further developed the web-based planning support tool GISCAME for the Pipiripau river basin case ***:We introduced analyses on ecosystem potentials in the raster-based tool to assess,in a spatially explicit manner,the scenario impact on water purification,sediment retention,water retention,and provision of food and fodder in order to identify potential pathways for conserving water *** demonstrate the method,we assess ES depending on a number of land use/land cover change(LULCC)***:We found that a considerable increase of water purification and sediment retention is difficult to achieve with realistic small scale LULCC,mainly because in areas with a low potential to provide hydrological ES and thus with a high demand for sustainable land use,such as native Savanna(Cerrado)and natural forests(Mata),favorable land uses were often already *** observed synergies in the response of regulating hydrological ES to LULCC but at the same time also trade-offs with provision of food and ***:Our findings suggest that further degradation and loss of Cerrado and Mata must be avoided and their restoration should be promoted in order to safeguard water *** suggest that restoration measures should be focused on arable land located at steep slopes near surface waters to effectively increase hydrological ES through the marginal reduction of provision services.

Effects of progesterone on T-type-Ca^(2+)-channel expression in Purkinje cells

Self-cleaning property of AZ31 Mg alloy during plasma electrolytic oxidation process

The rolling of metal sheet often leads to strong contamination of the resulting surface. The present work reports the effects of the surface contamination remaining after rolling of AZ31 Mg alloy on plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) treatment of the resulting sheet material. Results indicate that most of the contaminants on the surface of as-rolled AZ31 Mg alloy are removed in the early stages of PEO process. The contaminations slightly influence the phase composition of PEO coating. Non-uniform distribution of contaminations results in aggregation of pores on the surface of PEO samples. On the bare substrate the contaminations are responsible for poor wear and corrosion resistance but final PEO coatings reveals similar performance on contaminated substrate compared to the abraded one. A self-cleaning property of the PEO and possibility of one step process,avoiding pre-cleaning stages, is suggested.
