In a study published in Cellular and Molecular Immunology,Singh et *** a new mechanism of monocyte IL-1βproduction.1 It was observed that TLR-4-and TLR-2-induced IRAK-ERK pathway cross-talk with p67phox-Nox-2 for reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation,thus regulating IL-1βtranscription and processing in *** study not only establishes a direct link between IRAK and ERK,but also demonstrates the regulation of p67phox-Nox-2 by ERK for ROS and IL-1βproduction(Fig.1).This study shows that the IRAK-ERK axis can regulate both IL-βtranscription and processing through ROS.

Winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus (L.) DC.) is a potential legume crop of the tropics with high protein and oil content in the seeds. Analysis of the mutual genotypic relationships among twenty four genotypes of P. tetragonolobus through Mantel test found a significant correlation (r = 0.839) between similarity matrices of the results obtained from the use of the RAPD and ISSR molecular markers. The UPGMA tree based on Jaccard’s similarity coefficient generated from their cumulative data showed two distinct clusters and seven sub-clusters among these accessions. Quantification of total polyphenols, flavonoids and tannin revealed the highest percentage of occurrence of kaempferol (1.07-790.5 μg/g) and the lowest percentage of gallic acid (0.09-3.49 μg/g) in the seeds. Phytochemical analysis of the winged bean genotypes revealed that, some of the exotic lines are distinct. Analysis of photosynthesis rate, photosynthetic yield and stomatal conductance data also showed two clusters and was in congruence with the phytochemical affinities of the genotypes. The overall high level of polymorphism and varied range of genetic distances across the genotypes revealed a wide range of genetic base of P. tetragonolobus. The present investigation therefore, has provided significant insights for further improvement of winged bean germplasm for its qualitative and quantitative traits.

Effect of bioflocculants on the coagulation activity of alum for removal of trihalomethane precursors from low turbid water

Reactivity of chlorine towards hydrophobic groups present in natural organic matter（NOM）provokes the formation of carcinogenic disinfection byproducts such as trihalomethanes in chlorinated water. The present study aimed to investigate the variations in coagulant activity of alum using two different bioflocculants（coagulant aid） namely, Moringa oleifera and Cyamopsis tetragonoloba for the removal of hydrophobic fractions of NOM and subsequent chlorine consumption by treated water. Effect of dual coagulants on trihalomethane surrogate parameters such as total organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon, UV absorbing materials and prominent hydrophobic species such as phenolic groups along with aromatic chromophores, polyhydroxy aromatic moiety have also been studied. The concept of differential spectroscopy and absorbance slope index has been employed to understand the combined effects of alum-bioflocculants on the reactivity of NOM with chlorine. Our result shows that the combination of alum and C. tetragonoloba is more efficient for reducing trihalomethane surrogates from chlorinated water as compared to M. oleifera. C. tetragonoloba elicited synchronized effects of sweep coagulation and particle bridging-adsorption which eventually facilitated efficient removal of hydrophobic fractions of NOM. The variation in the mechanistic approach of bioflocculants was due to the presence of cationic charge on M. oleifera and adhesive property of C. tetragonoloba.

目的探讨质量源于设计(QbD)工具在评估印度5个不同地区余甘子地理变异中的应用。方法在本实验中,采用简化四次模型的Box-Behnken设计,运行105次,结合使用Design Expert软件进行随机响应面映射。本研究使用了三种不同的浸提方法(索氏浸提、浸渍浸提和超声浸提)以及三种溶剂[蒸馏水、甲醇和水-甲醇混合物(50:50 v/v)]。采用气相色谱-质谱法(GC-MS)测定并分析余甘子的抗氧化活性、总黄酮含量(TFC)和总酚含量(TPC),以鉴定其主要成分。结果QbD叠加图显示余甘子的提取值不低于30%w/w,2,2-二苯基-1-三硝基苯肼(DPPH)不低于60%mcg/mL(微克每毫升),TFC不低于75 mg QE/g(毫克槲皮素当量每克干原料),TPC不低于80 mg GAE/g(毫克没食子酸当量每克干原料)。此外,(GC-MS)数据证实了余甘子的生物活性存在变异。结论本研究模型能较好的描述浸提值、DPPH、TFC和TPC的变化。QbD方法可能倾向于在浸提过程中优先考虑彻底性,最终提高浸提产品的质量。
