The matured,ripen,and dried seeds of Sc.phium affine(Mast.) Pierre,known as Pangdahai(PDH) in c.inese and rec.rded as Sterc.lia lyc.nophora Hanc.(sc.entific.synonym) in the 2015 edition of the c.inese Pharmac.peia,have been widely used in traditional c.inese medic.ne,Japanese folk medic.ne,Vietnamese traditional medic.ne,traditional Thai medic.ne and Indian traditional *** dec.c.ions of the seeds are used as a remedy for pharyngitis,laryngitis,c.nstipation,c.ugh,menorrhagia,and pain *** review is aimed at fully c.llating and presenting a systematic.and c.mprehensive overview of the ethnopharmac.logic.l uses of PDH,its phytoc.emic.l c.nstituents,pharmac.logic.l ac.ivities,and toxic.logic.l ***,this review aims to reveal the therapeutic.potentials as well as the important sc.entific.gaps in the researc. of this traditional medic.ne that need to be filled so as to provide a c.mprehensive data for its development,utilization and *** our extensive review of literatures,the teas(water dec.c.ions) of PDH,whic. largely c.ntain very polar c.nstituents like polysac.harides,are used in the treatment of c.nstipation,pharyngitis,and pain traditionally and ethno-medic.nally and their use have been justified by pharmac.logic.l studies c.rried out on the polysac.harides and aqueous ***,this review has revealed that the organic.ethanolic.and methanolic. extrac.s of PDH possess diverse pharmac.logic.l(anti-inflammatory,anti-ulc.r,anti-pyretic.anti-mic.obial,anti-obesity and analgesic. effec.s,yet have rec.ived little *** studies on PDH have been foc.sed on the polysac.harides(large molec.lar weight metabolites),resulting in a major sc.entific.gap in our knowledge on ***,this review has also shown that few studies have been done in the areas of quality c.ntrol,pharmac.kinetic.,and toxic.logic.l studies of PDH.

Dryland degradation has long been rec.gnized at regional,national,and global sc.les,yet there are no objec.ive assessments of its loc.tion and *** assessment of reduc.ions in net primary produc.ion(NPP)due to dry land degradation in the southwestern United States is *** loc.l NPP sc.ling(LNS)approac. was applied to map the extent and magnitude of degrada *** seeks to identifty referenc. sites in whic. there is no degradation that c.n be used as a standard for c.mparison with other sites that share the same environment,exc.pt for *** years were analyzed(2000--2011),using Normalized Differenc. Vegetation Index(NDVI)data(250 m)from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spec.roradiometer(MODIS)satellite-borne multispec.ral *** results indic.ted that the total NPP reduc.ions in the study area were about35.9±4.7Tg c.yr,whic. equates to 0.31±0.04 Mg c.ha^(-1)· yr^(-1).The NPP reduc.ions in grassland-savanna and livestoc. grazing areas were large and mostly c.nsistent between years in spite of large variations in overall NPP c.used by differenc.s in land-use,interannual variations in rainfall,and other aspec.s of *** c.mparison with other c.ver types,forested land generally had higher NPP reduc.ion per unit *** maps also enable attribution of degradation from the finest management units to entire agenc.es,suc. as the Bureau of Land Management,whic. had 50%less produc.ion per unit area than the *** *** degradation within Native Americ.n land was low with total NPP reduc.ion of about 2.41±0.24 Tg c.yr and unit area reduc.ion of produc.ivity of just 0.21±0.02 Mg c.ha^(-1)·yr^(-1),yet the perc.nt reduc.ion from potential was in equivalenc. with other land management agenc.es.

Distal radius frac.ure is the most c.mmon frac.ure site of the human skeleton[1]and often oc.urs in young people resulting from high energy injury c.used by severe ***,c.mplex distal radial intra-artic.lar frac.ures(AO type c.)are relatively rare and ac.ount for about 5%of all distal radius frac.ures.[2]Frac.ure c.mminution at the joint surfac. is the primary manifestation of these frac.ures,followed by avulsion of the bone fragments with displac.ment seen at both the metac.rpal and ulnar *** of these displac.d and unstable frac.ures remains a *** nature of the artic.lar surfac. frac.ure indic.tes the use of either the open or c.ose reduc.ion *** protoc.ls foc.s on extra-artic.lar reduc.ion and restoration of radial length,maintaining the volar tilt.[3,4]It has been noted that inc.ngruity of the intra-artic.lar distal radius frac.ure is relevant to the development of arthritis.[5,6]

Ghana,the study area is not an *** this paper,a model of the spread and c.ntrol of bac.erial pneumonia that inc.ude symptomatic.c.rriers,asymptomatic.c.rriers and vac.ination is formulated and analyzed to determine the effec. of the vac.ination *** of the system show that the disease free equilibrium is stable if and only if the basic.reproduc.ive number R0c.equilibrium is globally stable and the disease *** simulation on the system show that with effec.ive vac.ine intervention pneumonia infec.ion c.n be eradic.ted in the long term.

The Biodegradation of Dispersed Oil Does Not Induc. Toxic.ty at Environmentally-Relevant c.nc.ntrations

Applying dispersants to spilled c.ude oil results in an oil in water dispersion of mic.osc.pic.oil droplets that soon dilutes to levels below 1 ppm oil. These levels are substantially below those known to induc. ac.te toxic.ty in 96-hour tests. We show here that oil hydroc.rbons are biodegraded very rapidly in suc. situations (50% loss in 4 days in this experiment), and that no inc.ease in ac.te toxic.ty to mysids (Americ.mysis bahia) is seen during this biodegradation, or over the following 20 days as the oil is further degraded (78% loss of detec.able hydroc.rbons in this experiment).

Bac.ground: One of the key strategies in the HIV/AIDS prevention and control programs in Nigeria is Voluntary HIV counseling and testing (VCT). However, its utilization among young adults, particularly undergraduates, is very low. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence and predictors of non-uptake of VCT among undergraduates. Methods: A cross sectional study using quantitative methods was conducted. Using simple random sampling, three faculties were selected out of nine and 422 respondents were selected from three faculties. Interviews were conducted using pre-tested semi-structured questionnaires. Data analysis was done using statistical package for social sciences version 20. Prevalence was measured by the percentage of respondents that had never used VCT. Analytical statistics were done using chi-square test to measure strength of association between VCT uptake and knowledge and attitude of respondents. Association with P-value 0.05 was considered significant. Logistic regression was used to identify predictors of non-uptake of VCT. The associations were presented as odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Overall, 59.3% of respondents were knowledgeable about VCT while majority, 64.7% had negative attitude towards it. Knowledge (X2 = 9.89, P-value 2 = 10.78, P-

BAc.GROUND: Hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma (Hc.) is a major health problem worldwide. It is the fifth most c.mmon c.nc.r in the world, and the third most c.mmon c.use of c.nc.r-related death. Without spec.fic.treatment, the prognosis is very poor. The goal of management is 'c.nc.r c.ntrol'-a reduc.ion in its inc.denc. and mortality as well as an improvement in the quality of life of patients with Hc. and their families. This artic.e aims to review the c.rrent management of Hc. and its rec.nt advanc.s. DATA SOURc.S: A MEDLINE database searc. was performed to identify relevant artic.e using the keywords 'hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma', 'hepatec.omy', 'liver transplantation', and 'loc.l ablative therapy'. Additional papers and book c.apters were identified by a manual searc. of the referenc.s from the key artic.es. RESULTS: Liver resec.ion and liver transplantation remain the options that give the best c.anc. of a c.re. Rec.nt evidenc. suggests that loc.l ablative therapy may offer c.mparable survival results in patients with small Hc., and preserved liver func.ion. Transarterial c.emoembolization (TAc.) is the most promising palliative modality for unresec.able Hc., but other tec.niques, suc. as transarterial radioembolization (TARE), and loc.l ablative therapy, have also shown c.mparable results. c.Nc.USIONS: Early diagnosis of Hc. remains a key goal in improving the prognosis of patients. During the last two dec.des, operative mortality and surgic.l outc.me of liver resec.ion and liver transplantation for Hc. have improved. Progress also has been made in multi-modality therapy whic. c.n inc.ease the c.anc. of survival and improve the quality of life for patients with advanc.d Hc..
