Astible Rivularis: Bioactive Compounds and Pharmacological Functions

Astilbe rivularis Buch. Ham., a rhizomatous perennial herb of the Saxifragaceae family, has been listed in rare species. In traditional medicine the plant has been used for the treatment of ulcer, bleeding during child birth, inflammation, body ache, diarrhea, and dysentery. This article reviews and analyses the traditional use, pharmacological activities of the corresponding bioactive compounds, and toxicological data on A. rivularis species. A. rivularis has been used across Indian subcontinent to treat various human ailments. Its extract consists of alkaloids, flavonoids, coumarins and glycosides. These extracts as well as isolated bioactive compounds demonstrated various biological activities including antimicrobial, anti-peptic ulcer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activity. Toxicological studies of the extract on brine shrimp larvae demonstrated mild toxicity;however no acute toxicity in mice. Although the pharmacological effect of A. rivularis has been poorly explored, the available data validated its use in ethnomedicine. To reveal the cryptic therapeutic potential of the species, research should focus on identification and mechanistic studies of the bioactive compounds.

A New High Performance Realization of Hyperchaotic Modified Canonical Chua Circuit Using JFETs

A new implementation of hyperchaotic modified canonical Chua circuit using junction field-effect transistors （JFETs） is proposed. The design is based on a source coupled JFET circuit to approximate a smooth cubic nonlinearity and a two-terminal negative resistance element containing a p-n-p silicon transistor and an n-channel JFET. The realization is supported by Orcad Pspice simulation and numerical MATLAB results. The hyperchaotic nature is confirmed by two positive Lyapunov exponents associated with the attractor which is a fractal with a Lyapunov dimension between 3 and 4.

Graph-Directed Coalescence Hidden Variable Fractal Interpolation Functions

Fractal interpolation function (FIF) is a special type of continuous function which interpolates certain data set and the attractor of the Iterated Function System (IFS) corresponding to a data set is the graph of the FIF. Coalescence Hidden-variable Fractal Interpolation Function (CHFIF) is both self-affine and non self-affine in nature depending on the free variables and constrained free variables for a generalized IFS. In this article, graph directed iterated function system for a finite number of generalized data sets is considered and it is shown that the projection of the attractors on is the graph of the CHFIFs interpolating the corresponding data sets.
