Relationship between age, size, fecundity and climatic factors in Panax wangianus an endangered medicinal plant in the sacred grove forest of North-East India

Panax wangianus （Syn. Panax pseudoginseng） S. C. Sun （Araliaceae） is a critically endangered, medicinal plant of North-East India. The objective of this study was to determine how plant size affects flowering phenology and to evaluate the effect of climatic factors on flowering, fruiting and seed production. Data on vegetative and repro- ductive characters were monitored from 2016 individuals of Panax wangianus population in Law Lyngdoh, Smit sacred grove in Nongkrem, Shillong, India. Leaflet area was measured by a planimeter. Size variables of both vegetative and reproductive traits in different age classes were measured. Climatic factors were recorded from 2007 to 2009. Age was recorded by counting the number of bud scale scars on the rhizome. Light intensity and relative humidity were measured using a photometer, LiCor Model LI-189 and thermohygrometer respectively. Different climatic variables are correlated with vegetative and reproductive phenological events. Statistical analysis revealed that a strong positive correlation was observed between the age versus vegetative and reproductive characters, except 1%–2% plants showed neoteny. Morphological variations were observed in natural conditions on the basis of the number of prong and carpellate conditions. Phenological status revealed that most of the individuals of the age class 35–50 years and above 50 years contributed the most to flowering, fruiting and seed production. Age class was significant to predict the size of the plant and its reproductive capacity. Climatic factors such as temperature, precipitation and relative humidity show synergistic effect on both the vegetative and reproductive phases in Panax wangianus in the undisturbed Nongkrem sacred grove. The color of flowers of P. wangianus also varied depending upon the sunlight intensity. Therefore, in the view of conservationand management, the age class of 35–50 years and above 50 years is the most important for population sustainability.

The risk of flammability is an unavoidable issue for gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs).Usually,flameretardant solvents are necessary to be used,but most of them would react with anode/cathode easily and cause serious interfacial instability,which is a big challenge for design and application of nonflammable ***,a nonflammable GPE(SGPE)is developed by in situ polymerizing trifluoroethyl methacrylate(TFMA)monomers with flame-retardant triethyl phosphate(TEP)solvents and LiTFSI–LiDFOB dual lithium *** is strongly anchored to PTFMA matrix via polarity interaction between-P=O and-CH_(2)CF_(3).It reduces free TEP molecules,which obviously mitigates interfacial reactions,and enhances flame-retardant performance of TEP *** TEP molecules are also inhibited in solvation of Li^(+),leading to anion-dominated solvation sheath,which creates inorganic-rich solid electrolyte interface/cathode electrolyte interface *** coordination structure changes Li^(+)transport from sluggish vehicular to fast structural transport,raising ionic conductivity to 1.03 mS cm^(-1) and transfer number to 0.41 at 30℃.The Li|SGPE|Li cell presents highly reversible Li stripping/plating performance for over 1000 h at 0.1 mA cm^(−2),and 4.2 V LiCoO_(2)|SGPE|Li battery delivers high average specific capacity>120 mAh g^(−1) over 200 *** study paves a new way to make nonflammable GPE that is compatible with Li metal anode.

Antioxidant activity of phytosynthesized biomatrix-loaded noble metallic nanoparticles

Biofabrication of noble monometallic platinum nanoparticles(Pt-NPs) and bimetallic gold–silver nanoparticles(Au Ag-NPs) using aqueous extract of Delonix regia is presented here. Antioxidant activity of biomatrix-loaded metallic nanoparticles is estimated for scavenging of two model radicals i.e., 2,2′-Azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt and 1,1′-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl. Broad spectral continuum spanning from visible to ultra-violet region(Pt-NPs: 30 min) and broad high intensity absorption peak around at 500 nm(Au Ag-NPs: 10 min) in two different UV–Visible spectra confirmed the biofabrication. Nanoparticles fabricated with distorted spherical shape and crystalline face-centred-cubic geometry. Strong signal around at 2.10 ke V(pure-phase platinum) and typical X-ray peaks observed at 2.20 and 3 ke V suggested, co-existence and alloying interaction of Au and Ag in Au Ag-NPs. ζ potential(-15.2 mV: Pt-NPs and -13.9 mV: Au Ag-NPs) values suggested surface adsorption of polyphenolic compounds to provide stability. Nanoparticles exhibited pronounced antioxidant activity against free radicals through their electron/hydrogen transfer ability.

Possible role of sialylation of retinal protein glycans in the regulation of electroretinogram response in mice

AIM： To evaluate if the nature, degree and extent of Siaa2-3-/Siaa2-6-sialylation of retinal protein glycans plays a possible role in the development and regulation of electroretinogram response （ERG） in mice. METHODS： Proteins extracted, from retinae of postnatal day 2 （PN2）, PN7, and PN14 wild type （wt） and retinal degeneration 1 （rdl） mice were quantified, labeled and used for lectin-microarray profiling with immobilized lectins which recognize a wide range of N-/O-glycans. Net fluorescence intensities of lectin-ligand complexes were measured and images of fluorescent lectin-microarrays were acquired. From the binding curves between each lectin and protein extracts from PN14 wt and PN14 rdl mice retinae, the protein concentration was selected to determine optimum signal intensity for lectin-ligand binding. Mean_＋SEM values of proteins and fluorescence- intensities of lectin-ligand-complexes between 45 lectins and 36 protein extracts from wt and rdl mice retinae were compared for significance of differences. RESULTS： Comparison of the progressive relative changes in the sialylated glycans of retinal proteins from wt and rdl mice showed that Siao2-3Gall-4GIcNAc-glycans （but not Siaa2-6-glycans） were detectable and quantifiable from the retinal-proteins of PN7 and PN14 wt and rdl mice. Siaa2- 3-sialylation of retinal-protein Gal/o-linked-Gal-glycans was significantly increased with age in PN7 and PN14 wt and less so in PN14 rdl mice. Siao2-3-/Siaa2-6-sialylation of retinal-protein Gal/a-linked-Gal-glycans was absent in PN2 wt and rdl mice. Comparison of published ERG responses of wt and rdl mice retinae with degree of Siaa2- 3-sialylation of retinal-protein-glycans showed that PN2 wt and rdl mice lack both the ERG response and Siaa2- 3-/Siao2-6-sialylation of retinal-protein Gal/a-linked-Gal-glycans; rdl mice with relatively lower Siaa2-3-sialylation of retinal-protein Gal/a-linked-Gal-glycans showed aberrant ERG response; and wt mice with significantly higher Sia

Finite control set model predictive control of three-port converter for interfacing a PV-battery energy storage system to a three-phase stand-alone AC system

Early detection of pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is a low-incident but highly mortal disease. It accounts for only 3% of estimated new cancer cases each year but is currently the fourth common cause of cancer mortality. By 2030, it is expected to be the 2nd leading cause of cancer death. There is a clear need to diagnose and classify pancreatic cancer at earlier stages in order to give patients the best chance at a definitive cure through surgery. Three precursor lesions that distinctly lead to pancreatic adenocarcinoma have been identified, and we have increasing understanding the non-genetic and genetic risk factors for the disease. With increased understanding about the risk factors, the familial patters, and associated accumulation of genetic mutations involved in pancreatic cancer, we know that there are mutations that occur early in the development of pancreatic cancer and that improved genetic risk-based strategies in screening for pancreatic cancer may be possible and successful at saving or prolonging lives. The remaining challenge is that current standards for diagnosing pancreatic cancer remain too invasive and too costly for widespread screening for pancreatic cancer. Furthermore, the promises of noninvasive methods of detection such as blood, saliva, and stool remain underdeveloped or lack robust testing. However, significant progress has been made, and we are drawing closer to a strategy for the screening and early detection of pancreatic cancer.
