OBJECTIVE： Consuming botanical dietary supplements or herbal drugs along with prescription drugs may lead to potential pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic（pK-pD） herb-drug interactions（HDI）. The present study focuses on the importance of and novel approach for assessing HDI in integrative medicine with case examples of two frequently-used Ayurvedic Rasayana ***： The aqueous extracts of Asparagus racemosus（ARE） and Gymnema sylvester（GSE） were prepared as per Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India. Chemoprofiling of these extracts was done using high-performance liquid chromatography（HpLC）. Additionally, ARE was characterized for the presence of shatavarins IV and I using HpLC ＆ mass spectroscopy respectively. Effects of ARE and GSE were investigated on rat liver microsome using testosterone probe drug assay. The changes in formation of metabolite（6-β hydroxy testosterone） were monitored on incubation of testosterone alone, testosterone with ketoconazole, ARE and GSE using HpLC. Half inhibitory concentration（IC50） was used to predict plausible ***： ARE and GSE showed no inhibition with IC50 values 〉1 000 μg/m L while the standard inhibitor ketoconazole completely abolished CYp3A4-dependent activity at 0.531 μg/m L and IC50 was found to be 0.036 μg/m ***： ARE and GSE prepared as per Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India were found to be safe for CYp3A4-mediated inhibitory HDI in rats. Our in vitro study suggests the need of further in vivo investigation for HDI in order to provide clinical relevance.

AIM:Hypertrophied anal papillae and fibrous anal polyps are not given due importance in the proctology practice. They are mostly ignored being considered as normal *** present study was aimed to demonstrate that hypertrophied anal papillae and fibrous anal polyps could cause symptoms to the patients and that they should be removed in treatment of patients with chronic fissure in anus. METHODS:Two groups of patients were studied.A hundred patients were studied in group A in which the associated fibrous polyp or papillae were removed by radio frequency surgical device after a lateral subcutaneous sphincterotomy for relieving the sphincter *** group of a hundred patients who also had papillae or fibrous polyps,were treated by lateral sphincterotomy *** were followed up for one year. RESULTS:Eighty-nine percent patients from group A expressed their satisfaction with the treatment in comparison to only 64% from group B who underwent sphincterotomy alone with the papillae or anal polyps left *** A patients showed a marked reduction with regard to pain and irritation during defecation (p=0.0011), pricking or foreign body sensation in the anus (p=0.0006) and pruritus or wetness around the anal verge (p=0.0008). CONCLUSION:Hypertrophied anal papillae and fibrous anal polyps should be removed during treatment of chronic anal *** would add to effectiveness and completeness of the procedure.

The development of green experimental processes for the synthesis of nanoparticles is a need in the field of nanotechnology. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles was achieved using Bacillus cereus supernatant and1 m M silver nitrate. 100 m M glucose was found to quicken the rate of reaction of silver nanoparticles ***-visible spectrophotometric analysis was carried out to assess the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were further characterized by using Nanoparticle Tracking Analyzer(NTA),Transmission Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectra. These silver nanoparticles showed enhanced quorum quenching activity against Staphylococcus aureus biofilm and prevention of biofilm formation which can be seen under inverted microscope(40 X). The synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles along with antibiotics in biofilm quenching was found to be effective. In the near future, silver nanoparticles could be used in the treatment of infections caused by highly antibiotic resistant biofilm.

The present study deals with the rapid green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using fresh leaves of Cymbopogan Citratus(Lemongrass). Silver nanoparticles were formed within 8～10 minutes by microwave irradiation using aqueous solution of Ag NO3(1 m M) with fresh leaves extract of Cymbopogan Citratus. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by using UV-visible spectrophotometer analysis, nanoparticle tracking analyzer, transmission electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectra. The antibacterial activity of these nanoparticles was studied against multiple drug resistant hospital isolates of ***, ***,*** and hospital isolates of S. typhi, ***. Also, the antifungal activity of these nanoparticles was studied against ***(hospital isolate) and ***(NCIM 616). The synergistic effect of silver nanoparticles along with antibiotics was also studied against multiple drug resistant hospital isolates and found to be effective. The extracellular synthesis of Silver nanoparticles using leaves of Cymbopogan Citratus appears to be rapid and eco-friendly.

A simple and high yielding method for the integration of 1,5-benzodiazepines integrated with 5-methyl- 2-oxo-3-phenyl-△^4-1,3,4-oxadiazolines in 75%-90% yield by microwave irradiation is devised. Microwave-accelerated reaction was compared with thermal method. All the compounds were characterized by physical, analytical and spectral （IR, 1^H NMR, MS） data. Title compounds were screened for preliminary pharmacological activities.
