The aim of this study was to prepare pellets of gliclazide by extrusion spheronization process by use of two methods in situ cross linking method and interfacial complexation method and to study the effect of different cross linking agents on the formed pellets. Extrusion/spheronization being an established technique for producing spherical pellets so this technique was used to prepare pellets. The gliclazide pellets prepared by extrusion-spheronization techniques and then the formed pellets were coated with pectin solution by interfacial complexation method. The effect of cross-linkers calcium chloride and aluminium chloride concentration, by in situ cross linking on properties of gliclazide pellets like swelling and drug release were studied. The formed pellets were subjected to swelling, analysis of morphology, in dissolution and vivo studies. most of the pellets were of acceptable shape. From the results calcium chloride when coated with pectin, retarded drug release. As the concentration of calcium chloride increased, it led to slow release of the drug. This may be due to the water solubility of calcium salt, which induced cross linking with pectin. Thus pellets with calcium chloride cross linked with pectin were beneficial, because it retarded the release of the drug. Though the release from interfacial coated pellets was retarded, it was less as compared to the in situ formed pellets. The in vivo studies on alloxan-induced diabetic rats indicated the significant hypoglycemic effect that was observed 24 h after oral administration of optimized pellets. Thus, the developed and optimized pellets were suitable for prolonged systemic absorption of gliclazide to maintain lower blood glucose level and improved patient compliance. The results suggested that the in situ cross linking pellets were able to retard the release of gliclazide greater than the interfacial complexation method. Therefore, this approach has been effectively achieved.

Plastic scintillation detectors based whole body β/γ contamination monitors are developed for use in radiation *** microcontroller-based multi-detector system uses 13 plastic scintillator detectors,with minimized dead detection zones,monitoring the whole body,and conforming to the contamination limit prescribed by the regulatory *** system has the features for monitoring hands,feet,head,and faceβ/γusing contamination monitors and portal exit *** can detect gamma sources at a dose rate of 10 n Gyh^(-1).The system is calibrated using b sources^(90)Sr/^(90)Y,^(204)Tl,and^(36)Cl,and the efficiency is found to be 29%,22%,and 18%,***β/γcontaminationis0.15 Bqcm^(-2),which is significantly less than the minimum detection objectives on head,face,hands,and feet.

Deterioration of Early Holocene coral reef due to sea level rise along west coast of India:Benthic foraminiferal testimony

A total of 103 surface sediment samples collected from the water depth range of 15-3300 m along Vijaydurg-Karwar stretch of central west coast of India were analyzed for foraminiferal content. Relict benthic foraminiferal assemblage was noted within 50--135 m water depth. The relict benthic foraminiferal assemblage that includes Amphistegina, Operculina and Alveolinella in sediment samples within the water depth of 85-- 135 m indicates presence of coral reef at this depth during Early Holocene. The presence of barnacle fouling on Relict foraminifera at 60--90 m confirms the paleo-shoreline. The shallow depth zone is characterized by presence of agglutinated relict foraminifera. The agglutinated forms indicate freshwater influx, which eventually increased the sea level and subsequently deteriorated the paleo-coral reef.

The development of next-generation sequencing （NGS） platforms spawned an enormous volume of data. This explosion in data has unearthed new scalability challenges for existing bioinformatics tools. The analysis of metagenomic sequences using bioinformatics pipelines is complicated by the substantial complexity of these data. In this article, we review several commonly-used online tools for metagenomies data analysis with respect to their quality and detail of analysis using simulated metagenolnies data. There are at least a dozen such software tools presently available in the public domain. Among them, mGRAST, ImG/m, and mETAVIR are the most well-known tools according to the number of citations by peer-reviewed scientific media up to mid-2015. Here, we describe 12 online tools with respect to their web link, annotation pipelines, clustering methods, online user support, and availability of data storage. We have also done the rating for each tool to screen more potential and preferential tools and evaluated five best tools using synthetie metagenome. The article comprehensively deals with the contemporary problems and the prospects of metagenomies from a bioinformatics viewpoint.

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is fast emerging as a practically usefulcomputational simulation tool for a wide variety of engineering problems. SPH isalso gaining popularity as the back bone for fast and realistic animations in graphicsand video games. The Lagrangian and mesh-free nature of the method facilitates fastand accurate simulation of material deformation, interface capture, etc. Typically,particle-based methods would necessitate particle search and locate algorithms tobe implemented efficiently, as continuous creation of neighbor particle lists is acomputationally expensive step. Hence, it is advantageous to implement SPH, on modernmulti-core platforms with the help of High-Performance Computing (HPC) tools. Inthis work, the computational performance of an SPH algorithm is assessed on multicore Central Processing Unit (CPU) as well as massively parallel General PurposeGraphical Processing Units (GP-GPU). Parallelizing SPH faces several challenges suchas, scalability of the neighbor search process, force calculations, minimizing threaddivergence, achieving coalesced memory access patterns, balancing workload, ensuringoptimum use of computational resources, etc. While addressing some of these challenges,detailed analysis of performance metrics such as speedup, global load efficiency, globalstore efficiency, warp execution efficiency, occupancy, etc. is evaluated. The OpenmP andCompute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) parallel programming models have beenused for parallel computing on Intel Xeon(R) E5-2630 multi-core CPU and NVIDIAQuadro m4000 and NVIDIA Tesla p100 massively parallel GPU architectures. Standardbenchmark problems from the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) literature are chosen for the validation. The key concern of how to identify a suitable architecturefor mesh-less methods which essentially require heavy workload of neighbor search andevaluation of local force fields from neighbor interactions is addressed.

Background and Aims: Psychometric hepatic encephalop-athy score(PHES)is used widely for diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(mHE).This prospective study aimed to determine the utility of the inhibitory control test(ICT)for the diagnosis of ***,the efficacy of rifaximin and lactulose for reversal of mHE was ***:A total of 180 eligible cirrhotic patients underwent testing for *** PHES was ≤ ?5 and ICT lures were ≥ 14,mHE was *** 108 patients with mHE were randomized to three groups for treatment with either lactulose,rifaximin,or *** outcomes were measured at the end of 3 ***: The 108 patients with mHE diagnosed by PHES and/or ICT accounted for 60%.The diagnosis of mHE was made by both ICT and PHES positivity in 56 patients,by abnormal ICT and normal PHES in 37 patients,and by abnor-mal PHES and normal ICT in 15 *** diagnosis of mHE,ICT had sensitivity of 78.87%,specificity of 66.06%with 60.22%positive predictive value and 82.76%negative predictive *** area under the curve value of 0.724(95%CI: 0.653–0.788)was obtained for diagnosis of *** of mHE was seen in 71.42%,70.27%and 11.11%of patients in the rifaximin,lactulose and placebo arms(p min showed better tolerability compared to ***: For the diagnosis of mHE,ICT is a simple tool but has lower sensitivity and better specificity than *** is as efficacious as lactulose in the treat-ment of mHE and better tolerated.

Hypolipidemic activity of a hydroalcoholic extract of Cyperus scariosus Linn. root in guinea pigs fed with a high cholesterol diet

Lipid-lowering and antioxidant activities of a hydroalcoholic extract of Cyperus scariosus Linn. root(HCS) were evaluated in guinea pigs fed with a high cholesterol diet. Serum lipid profile(total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-C, VLDL-C, and HDL-C), atherogenic indices and serum enzymes(ALT, AST, ALP, LDH, and CK-mB) were performed in each group at 0 days and at the end of 60 days. Histological study of liver and kidney was done in groups 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7. The total phenolic and flavonoid content in HCS and its antioxidant activity were evaluated by the DPPH assay. Both doses of HCS decreased serum lipid profile and atherogenic indices(P mmunosuppressive and antioxidant properties, and mays have value in atherosclerosis prevention. The higher dose of HCS also reduced serum AST, ALP, and LDH levels and rosuvastatin increased AST and ALP levels(P mulation and improvement in hepatocytes in HCStreated animals. The antioxidant activity of HCS may be responsible for its lipid lowering and cytoprotective action. HCS had significant lipid lowering and antioxidant activity, which; may be due to the phenolic compounds. HCS may be a safe and cost effective alternative to current statin therapy for patients with dyslipidaemia.
