Protecting occupants or payloads in crashes and blasts is of utmost importance in both moving and immobile *** way of achieving this is by using a sacrificial energy *** tubes have been studied as potential energy absorbers due to their ability to fail progressively under axial *** this study,the energy absorption capability of these tubes is enhanced by adding hollow glass particles to the ***-weight tests are performed on composite tubes,and a digital image correlation(DIC)-based technique is used to capture their load-displacement *** eliminates the use of electronic data acquisition systems,load cells,and *** load-displacement curves of the tubes are obtained from the DIC-based technique and examined to understand their crushing *** the mean crush load shows a drop,an increase in crush length is *** specific energy absorbed by the tubes improves with an increase in GMB volume *** addition of 0.1,0.2,0.3 and 0.4 vol fractions of GMB results in the specific energy absorption increasing by6.6%,14.7%,24%and 36.6%,respectively,compared to neat glass fibre-epoxy *** examination of the tubes and comparison with tubes subject to quasi-static compression is also performed.

Estimation of good velocity models under complex near-surface conditions remains a topic of ongoing *** propose to predict near-surface velocity profiles from surface-waves transformed to phase velocity-frequency panels in a data-driven manner using deep neural *** is a different approach from many recent works that attempt to estimate velocity from directly reflected body waves or guided waves.A secondary objective is to analyze the influence on the prediction accuracy of various commonly employed deep learning practices,such as transfer learning and data *** numerical experiments on synthetic data as well as a real geophysical example,we demonstrate that transfer learning as well as data augmentations are helpful when using deep learning for velocity estimation.A third and final objective is to study lack of generalization of deep learning models for out-of-distribution(OOD)data in the context of our problem,and present a novel approach to tackle *** propose a domain adaptation network for training deep learning models that uses a priori knowledge on the range of velocity values in order to constrain mapping of the *** final comparison on field data,which was not part of the training data,show the deep neural network predictions compare favorably with a conventional velocity model estimation obtained with a dispersion curve inversion workflow.

In this paper,we have applied the univariate time series model to predict the number of COVID-19 infected cases that can be expected in upcoming days in *** adopted an Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA)model on the data collected from 31st january 2020 to 25th March 2020 and verified it using the data collected from 26th March 2020 to 04th April 2020.A nonlinear autoregressive(NAR)neural network was developed to compare the accuracy of predicted *** model has been used for daily prediction of COVID-19 cases for next 50 days without any additional *** from various sources,including the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW)and http://***/are used for the *** results showed an increasing trend in the actual and forecasted numbers of COVID-19 cases with approximately 1500 cases per day,based on available data as on 04th April *** appropriate ARIMA(1,1,0)model was selected based on the Bayesian Information Criteria(BIC)values and the overall highest R 2 values of *** NAR model architecture constitutes ten neurons,which was optimized using the Levenberg-Marquardt optimization training algorithm(LM)with the overall highest R 2 values of 0.97.

Natural ventilation is recognized for improving the thermal comfort of the built environment and indoor air *** provides comfortable conditions for building occupants and reduces energy consumption for ***,it is important to study and explore effective means of ventilation to improve the building *** study investigates the thermal comfort of a naturally ventilated hostel operational building in the composite climate of jaipur,India using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)simulation tool‘Cradle scSTREAM’.A 3D building model has been developed to analyze the thermal comfort for different natural ventilation strategies with advanced mesh algorithms which generate fewer mesh elements and maintain good mesh quality.A field study was carried out to collect the actual data and to validate the model which was further used to evaluate the thermal comfort range based on the ASHRAE-55 *** design strategies have been applied to enhance thermal *** was found that an increase in air velocity up to 0.5 m/s was achieved by Cross Ventilation while a drop of 2.0-2.5℃in the air temperature was found using Night *** can be stated that cross ventilation increases the air movement while night ventilation gives comparatively higher comfort regarding air temperature and relative humidity.

We report a rapid method of green chemistry approach for synthesis of gold nanoparticles（AuNPs）using Lagerstroemia speciosa leaf extract（LSE）. L. speciosa plant extract is known for its effective treatment of diabetes and kidney related problems. The green synthesis of Au NPs was complete within 30 min at 25°C. The same could also be achieved within 2 min at a higher reaction temperature（80°C）. Both UV–visible spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy results suggest that the morphology and size distribution of Au NPs are dependent on the pH of gold solution,gold concentration,volume of LSE,and reaction time and temperature. Comparison between Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FT-IR）spectra of LSE and the synthesized Au NPs indicate an active role of polyphenolic functional groups（from gallotannins,lagerstroemin,and corosolic acid）in the green synthesis and capping of Au NPs. The green route synthesized Au NPs show strong photocatalytic activity in the reduction of dyes viz.,methylene blue,methyl orange,bromophenol blue and bromocresol green,and 4-nitrophenol under visible light in the presence of Na BH4. The non-toxic and cost effective LSE mediated Au NPs synthesis proposed in this study is extremely rapid compared to the other reported methods that require hours to days for complete synthesis of Au NPs using various plant extracts. Strong and stable photocatalytic behavior makes Au NPs attractive in environmental applications,particularly in the reduction of organic pollutants in wastewater.

The use of outcome feedback by emergency medicine physicians: Results of a physician survey

BACKGROUND: Feedback on patient outcomes is invaluable to the practice of emergency medicine but examples of effective forms of feedback have not been well characterized in the literature. We describe one system of emergency department(ED) outcome feedback called the return visit report(RVR) and present the results of a survey assessing physicians' perceptions of this novel form of feedback. METHODS: An Opinio web-based survey was conducted in 81 emergency physicians(EPs) at three ***: Of the 81 physicians surveyed, 40(49%) responded. Most participants indicated that they frequently review their RVRs(83%), that RVRs are valuable to their practice of medicine(80%), and that RVRs alter their practice in future encounters(57%). Respondents reported seeking other forms of outcome feedback including speaking with other EPs(83%) and reviewing discharge summaries of admitted patients(87%). There was no correlation between demographic data and use of ***: EPs value RVRs as a form of feedback. RVRs could be improved by reducing the observational interval and optimizing report relevance and differential weighting.

An internal failure mode for a soil-nailed system consists of failure at nail heads,slope facing,nail strength,along groutesoil interface and pullout failure.A better understanding of pullout of soil nail thus becomes important to assess the stability of a soil-nailed *** the present study,an investigation into the pullout behaviour of soil nail with circular discs along the shaft has been carried out by a threedimensional finite element analysis using Abaqus/Explicit routine.A total of 67 simulations have been performed to accurately predict the pullout behaviour of soil *** soil nail under study has circular discs along its shaft varying in numbers from 1 to *** pullout of this soil nail in a pullout test box has been simulated with a constant overburden pressure of 20 kPa acting on the *** pullout load edisplacement characteristics,stresses around soil nail and failure mechanism during pullout are *** of dimensionless factors such as normalised pullout load factor and bearing capacity factor have been obtained with different combinations of parameters in terms of relative disc spacing ratio,anchorage length ratio,embedment ratio,diameter ratio and displacement *** the results of analyses,it is found that nail with more circular discs requires higher pullout *** are critical relative disc spacing ratio and diameter ratio which significantly affect the pullout behaviour of nail.
