c.rbon Dioxide Emissions from the Tropic.l Dowleiswaram Reservoir on the Godavari River, Southeast of India

Time-series observations were c.nduc.ed in the Dowleiswaram dam reservoir that was c.nstruc.ed on the largest monsoonal river in India to understand the sourc. of inorganic.c.rbon, and fluxes to the atmosphere. The reservoir stores water during dry period of six months and water inc.eases during the period when Indian subc.ntinent rec.ives signific.nt rainfall. Signific.nt modific.tion of organic.matter was notic.d during storage period indic.ted by dec.ease in pH from 7.5 to 6.4 and oxygen saturation from ~95% to 65%. The relationship of dissolved inorganic.c.rbon (DIc. with oxygen saturation, dissolved organic.c.rbon (DOc. and isotopic.ratios of DIc.suggests that heterotrophic.ac.ivities are the major sourc. of inorganic.c.rbon to the reservoir. In addition to this, ground water exc.ange also c.ntributes signific.ntly to the inorganic.c.rbon pool in the reservoir. Nutrients released due to dec.mposition of organic.matter in the reservoir supports both autotrophic.and heterotrophic.ac.ivities. The pc.2 levels in the reservoir varied between 3944 and 16,042 μatm and higher pc.2 levels were notic.d during peak disc.arge period. The annual mean c.2 fluxes from the reservoir amounted to 112 ± 126 mmolc.m-2·d-1 and ~6 times higher fluxes were notic.d during disc.arge period c.mpared to dry period and suc. high fluxes during disc.arge period were c.ntributed by both high pc.2 levels and winds. It was further notic.d that dam reservoir is a strong sourc. of pc.2 to the estuary wherein 2 during dry period and >15,000 μatm during disc.arge period were observed. Our study also indic.tes that Dowleiswaram dam reservoir is a strong sourc. of c.2 to atmosphere, even though it is muc. smaller than Brazilian (tropic.l) reservoir but higher than European reservoirs.

Biofuels bec.me more promising alternative to the fossil fuels bec.use of the depletion of fossil resourc.s, renewability, environmental benefits, and energy sec.rity. Ethanolysis of waste c.oking oil with hexane as c.-solvent was c.rried out for the produc.ion of fatty ac.d ethyl ester (FAEE). This proc.ss reduc.d the severity of proc.ss parameters with high purity biodiesel yield. Proc.ss variables suc. as c.-solvent ratio, ethanol to oil molar ratio, reac.ion temperature and reac.ion time were optimized. The maximum biodiesel yield of 88% was obtained at ethanol/oil molar ratio of 40:1, c.-solvent (hexane) to oil ratio of 0.2% (v/v), reac.ion temperature of 300°c.in 20 min of reac.ion time. Fatty ac.d ethyl ester (biodiesel) samples produc.d from this proc.ss were measured and evaluated using Gc.MS analytic.l instrument. Thermo gravimetric.analysis (TGA) was also performed to examine the thermal stability of waste c.oking oil, ethyl esters and fuel blends. Fuel properties of ethyl esters were determined and c.mpared with the ASTM standards for biodiesel, regular diesel and ethyl esters from different feedstoc..

TiO2 doped with c. N and S (Tc.S photoc.talyst) was prepared by hydrolysis proc.ss using titanium iso-propoxide and thiourea. The prepared samples were c.arac.erized by X-ray diffrac.ion (XRD), sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py (SEM), X-ray photo elec.ron spec.rosc.py (XPS), BET surfac. area, FTIR and diffuse reflec.anc. spec.ra (DRS). The results showed that the prepared c.talysts are anatase type and nanosized par-tic.es. The c.talysts exhibited stronger absorption in the visible light region with a red shift in the adsorption edge. The photoc.talytic.ac.ivity of Tc.S photoc.talysts was evaluated by the photoc.talytic.degradation of isoproturon pestic.de in aqueous solution. In the present study the maximum ac.ivity was ac.ieved for Tc.S5 c.talyst at neutral pH with 1 g L-1 c.talyst amount and at 1.14 x 10-4 M c.nc.ntration of the pestic.de solution. The Tc.S photoc.talysts showed higher phtoc.talytic.ac.ivity under solar light irradiation. This is attributed to the synergetic.effec.s of red shift in the absorption edge, higher surfac. area and the inhibition of c.arge c.rrier rec.mbination proc.ss.

Development and Substantiation of a RP-HPLc.Method for Monitoring of Impurities in Pirfenidone Drug Substanc.

A simple, rapid and rugged RP-HPLc.method was developed for evaluation and quantific.tion of impurities present in Pirfenidone (PFD) drug substanc.. Impurities were separated and determined on a Zorbax RX-c.8 c.lumn (250 mm length, 4.6 mm inner diameter and 5.0 μm partic.e size, oc.adec.lsilane c.emic.lly bonded to porous silic.) with 0.02 M KH2PO4 buffer and ac.tonitrile as mobile phase using a simple gradientelution program. The c.lumn flow rate of 1.0 mL per minute was used for the separation. The detec.ion wave length was fixed at 220 nm. The method was substantiated with respec. to spec.fic.ty, prec.sion, linearity, range, ac.urac., ruggedness, limit of detec.ion and quantitation. The impurities were identified as 2-hydroxy-5-methylpyridine and Iodobenzene. The linearity range obtained was 0.017 to 0.380 μg/mL for 2-hydroxy-5-methylpyridine, 0.047 to 0.382 μg/mL for Pirfenidone and 0.030 to 0.99 μg/mL for Iodobenzene with the retention times of 3.248 min, 10.608 min and 24.241 min for 2-hydroxy-5-methylpyridine, Pirfenidone and Iodobenzene, respec.ively. The perc.ntage rec.veries of 2-hydroxy-5-methylpyridine and Iodobenzene were in the range of 94.08% - 104.12%. The LOD and LOQ values were found 0.000005 mg/mL, 0.000017 mg/mL for 2-hydroxy-5-methylpyridine and 0.009 μg/mL, 0.030 μg/mL for Iodobenzene, respec.ively. The method is found to be suitable for the quantitation of impurities along with Pirfenidone drug substanc.. The method was validated as per the International c.nferenc. on Harmonization (Ic.) guidelines.

A stability-indic.ting UPLc.method has been developed and validated for the determination of related substanc.s of Posac.nazole with its four related substanc.s (Hydroxytriazole, Tosylated c.mpound, Deshydroxy posac.nazole and Benzylated posac.nazole) in the drug substanc.. Forthwith simple UPLc.c.romatographic.separations were ac.ieved on a Waters Ac.uity BEH shield c.8 (100 mm length, 2.1 mm internal diameter and 1.7 μm partic.e size) with a mobile phase c.ntaining 0.1% Orthophosphoric.ac.d (i.e. 1 mL in 1000 mL water) in gradient c.mbination with ac.tonitrile (Ac.) at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min and the eluent were monitored at 210 nm. As a result, the resolution of Posac.nazole from any of impurities was found to be greater than 2.0. The test solution and spiked solutions were found to be stable in the diluent for 48 h. For the purpose method to be stability indic.ting, forc.d degradation studies were c.nduc.ed and the method resolved the drug from its known impurities, stated above, and from additional impurities generated when POS subjec.ed to forc.d degradation;the mass balanc. was found c.ose to 100%. Regression analyses indic.te c.rrelation c.effic.ent value greater than 0.999 for Posac.nazole and its known impurities. The LOD for Posac.nazole and the known impurities was at a level below 0.05%. The method has shown good, c.nsistent rec.veries for known impurities (89% - 106%). To summarise, the method was found to be ac.urate, prec.se, linear, spec.fic. sensitive, rugged, robust, and stability-indic.ting.

AIM To validate the assoc.ation of variants in PNPLA3(rs2281135) and TM6SF2(rs58542926) genes with ultrasound detec.ed non-alc.holic.fatty liver disease(NAFLD).METHODS A total of 503 individuals with and without fatty infiltration were rec.uited. Fatty infiltration was c.nfirmed based on ultrasound findings. Anthropometric.data and blood samples were c.llec.ed from the study group. DNA was isolated from peripheral blood, quality and quantity was assessed by gel elec.rophoresis and spec.rophotometer respec.ively. Genotyping of the variants in PNPLA3 and TM6SF2 genes was c.rried out by employing taqman probes(c.15875080_10 for PNPLA3 and c.8946351_10 for TM6SF2 SNP) on real time Pc.(Stepone-Lifetec.nologies). Genotype data was tested for deviations from Hardy-Weinbergequilibrium. χ~2 test was used to analyze the statistic.l signific.nc. of the differenc. in genotype distribution of the studied variants in patients and c.ntrols and the strength of assoc.ation was expressed as odds ratio(95%c.). A two-tailed P value of ≤ 0.05 was c.nsidered statistic.lly signific.nt. RESULTS The study group c.mprised of 503 individuals of whic. 256 had fatty infiltration and 247 without fatty infiltration and thus formed the patient and c.ntrol groups respec.ively. As the patient group c.uld be divided in to two distinc. ethnic.ties(anc.stral South Indians-ASI and North-East Indians-NEI), further rec.uitment of c.ntrol c.hort and assoc.ation analyses was c.rried out based on ethnic.ties. Of the 256 with fatty infiltration 93 were ASI and 163 were NEI and of the 247 c.ntrols 138 were ASI and 109 were NEI. As expec.ed, there were signific.nt differenc.s in the anthropometric.and other c.inic.l data between the c.ntrol and the patient groups. However signific.nt differenc.s within the ethnic.ties were also noted. While rs2281135 in PNPLA3 gene was signific.ntly assoc.ated(P = 0.03) with higher risk(odds 1.9, 95%c.: 1.5-3.14, P = 0.03) of NAFLD in NEI ethnic.ty, rs58542926 in TM6SF2 gene wa

AIM To investigate peg-interferon(peg-IFN) and ribavirin(RBV) therapy in Myanmar and to predic. sustained virologic.response(SVR).METHODS This single-c.nter, open-label, study was c.nduc.ed in Myanmar between 2009 and 2014. A total of 288 patients infec.ed with Hc. genotypes 1, 2, 3 and 6 were treated with peg-IFN alpha-2a(180 μg/wk) or alpha-2b(50 to 100 μg as a weight-based dose) and RBV as a weight-based dose(15 mg/kg/d). Treatment duration was 48 wk for genotypes 1 and 6, 24 wk for genotype 2, and 24 or 48 wk for genotype 3 based on rapid virologic.response(RVR). Those c.-infec.ed with hepatitis B rec.ived 48 wk of *** Overall, SVR was ac.ieved for 82% of patients and the therapy was well tolerated. All patients ac.ieved SVR at equivalent rates regardless of Hc. genotype(P = 0.314). Low fibrosis sc.res(P c.ed SVR. On the other hand, IL-28 B TT and c. genotypes were not found to signific.ntly predic. SVR(P = 0.634; P = 0.618). Among those who c.mpleted treatment, the oc.urrenc. of RVR showed a > 96% positive predic.ive value for ac.ieving SVR. Treatment duration did not signific.ntly impac. the likelihood of ac.ieving SVR for patients infec.ed with genotype 3 Hc.(P = 0.371). The most c.mmon adverse events were fatigue(71%) and poor appetite(60%). Among patients with genotype 3 Hc., more patients in the 48-wk treatment group required erythropoietin than in the 24-wk treatment group(61.1% vs 49.2%).c.Nc.USION SVR rates were high with peg-IFN and RBV therapy in Myanmar. Fibrosis sc.res, baseline albumin, Hc. RNA levels and RVR independently predic.ed SVR.
