Electrochemical water splitting to produce hydrogen fuel is a promising renewable energy-conversion ***-scale electrolysis of freshwater may deplete water resources and cause water scarcity ***,seawater electrolysis is a potential solution to the future energy and water *** seawater electrolysis,it is critical to develop cost-effective electrocatalysts to split seawater without chloride ***,we present zinc-doped nickel iron(oxy)hydroxide nanocubes passivated by negatively charged polyanions(NFZ-PBA-S)that exhibits outstanding catalytic activity,stability,and selectivity for seawater *** dopants and polyanion-rich passivated surface layers in NFZ-PBA-S could effectively repel chlorine ions and enhance corrosion resistance,enabling its excellent catalytic activity and stability for seawater oxidation.

Incidence of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococci in Fresh Seafood

The occurrence of methicillin-resistant staphylococci was investigated in fresh seafood, seafood products and related samples. Staphylococci were isolated from 13 (68.42%) fresh seafood samples, while 3 (15.78%) samples harbored coagulase-positive S. aureus. Resistance to methicillin was observed in 16 isolates of Staphylococcus spp., 15 of which were coagulase-negative S. aureus (MR-CoNS) and one was a coagulase-positive S. aureus (MRSA). The mecA gene is detected by PCR in 10 MR-CoNS and one MRSA strain. The lmrS gene, which codes for a multidrug efflux pump LmrS, is detected only in coagulase-positive isolates.

Hyptis suaveolens （L.） Poit. is an invasive alien weed commonly known as ＂Bana tulst＂ in Odisha belonging to the family Lamiaceae and widely distributed in different parts of India. The leaves of the plant have been reported to be used as stimulant, carminative, sudorific and also as a cure for parasitic cutaneous diseases besides the crude leaf extract is reported to be used against colic and stomach-ache. The leaves are the source of different alkaloids, terpenes and volatile oils having allelopathic effect. In view of this the present work was carried out with an aim to investigate the allelopathic effect upon germination of rice （Oryza sativa L.）. The result indicated that the higher concentration of the leaf leachate could decrease the percentage of germination besides identified as a potential bio-herbicide.

Contamination of Heavy Metals and Nutrients in Sediment, Sludge and Sewage of India

The stagnant water bodies in India are sink for contaminant i.e. detergent, fertilizer, nutrients, heavy metal, pesticide, microbe, etc. The contamination and sources of elements i.e. Al, K, P, S, Cl, As, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb in the sediment, sludge and sewage materials of the most industrialized cities of central India i.e. Raipur, Bhilai and Korba is described. The dominated metals i.e. Al, K, Ca, Ti, Fe and Mn in the geowaste materials (n = 20) contributed in the range of 4.8% - 36.3% with mean value of 10.2% ± 2.9%. The ∑4 concentration of nutrients i.e. P, K, S and Cl ranged from 1.2 - 12.5 g/kg with mean value of 7.9 ± 1.3 g/kg. The concentration of other heavy metals (HMs) i.e. As, V, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb ranged from 12 - 105, 35 - 175, 88 - 392, 14 - 77, 32 - 185, 38 - 626 and 18 - 228 mg/kg with mean value of 644 ± 78, 83 ± 15, 182 ± 41, 44 ± 7, 68 ± 18, 199 ± 71 and 85 ± 25 mg/kg, respectively. The spatial and vertical distribution, enrichment and sources of the elements in the sediments are discussed.

Long-Term Conservation Agriculture and Intensified Cropping Systems:Effects on Growth,Yield,Water,and Energy-use Efficiency of Maize in Northwestern India

Conservation agriculture(CA)-based best-bet crop management practices may increase crop and water productivity, while conserving and sustaining natural resources. We evaluated the performance of rainy season maize during 2014 under an ongoing long-term trial(established in 2008) with three tillage practices, i.e., permanent bed(PB), zero tillage(ZT), and conventional tillage(CT) as main plots, and four intensified maize-based cropping systems, i.e., maize-wheat-mungbean, maize-chickpea-Sesbania(MCS), maizemustard-mungbean, and maize-maize-Sesbania) as subplot treatments. In the seventh rainy season of the experiment, maize growth parameters, yield attributes, yield, and water-and energy-use efficiency were highest at fixed plots under ZT. Maize growth parameters were significantly(P < 0.05) superior under ZT and PB compared with CT. Maize yield attributes, including cobs per m^2(7.8), cob length(0.183 m), grain rows per cob(13.8), and grains per row(35.6), were significantly higher under ZT than CT; however, no significant effect of cropping systems was found on maize growth and yield attributes. Zero tillage exhibited the highest maize productivity(4 589 kg ha^(-1)). However, among the cropping systems, MCS exhibited the highest maize productivity(4 582 kg ha^(-1)). In maize, water use was reduced by 80.2–120.9 mm ha-1under ZT and PB compared with CT, which ultimately enhanced the economic water-use efficiency by 42.0% and 36.6%, respectively. The ZT and PB showed a 3.5%–31.8% increase in soil organic carbon(SOC) at different soil depths(0–0.45 m), and a 32.3%–39.9% increase in energy productivity compared with CT. Overall, our results showed that CA-based ZT and PB practices coupled with diversified maize-based cropping systems effectively enhanced maize yield and SOC,as well as water-and energy-use efficiency, in northwestern India.

Multiple tendons of the additional belly of flexor pollicis longus in the carpal tunnel: Embryological perspective and their clinical significance

Although the flexor pollicis longus is known to show the additional head of the origin, the occurrence of its additional tendons in the carpal tunnel are seldom reported. The presence of such additional tendons in the carpal tunnel cannot be overlooked during the radiological and surgical procedures in this region. Herein, we report a rare case of additional muscle belly of flexor pollicis longus. The additional muscle belly after a short course divided into three tendons. All three tendons entered the carpal tunnel along with flexor pollicis longus, passing deep to the flexor retinaculum. Within the carpal tunnel, two of these tendons fused and terminated by merging with the undersurface of the flexor retinaculum. The third tendon terminated by joining the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon for the index finger, in the palm. An additional slip of the first lumbrical muscle took origin from the third tendon of the additional muscle belly of flexor pollicis longus. Further, the embryological basis and clinical significance of current case is discussed.

Emergence of non-albicans Candida species and antifungal resistance in intensive care unit patients

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiology of candidiasis and the antifungal susceptibility profile of Candida species isolated from the intensive care unit(ICU) ***: The study used a qualitative descriptive design. Relevant samples depending on organ system involvement from 100 ICU patients were collected and *** and speciation of the isolates was conducted by the biochemical *** susceptibility testing was carried out as per CLSI-M27-A3 ***: Ninety Candida isolates were isolated from the different clinical samples: urine(43.3%), tracheal aspirate(31.1%), urinary catheter(12.2%), endotracheal tube(7.8%),abdominal drains(3.3%), sputum(2.2%). The incidence of candidiasis caused by nonalbicans Candida(NAC) species(63.3%) was higher than Candida albicans(36.7%).The various NAC species were isolated as: Candida tropicalis(41.1%), Candida glabrata(10%), Candida parapsilosis(6.7%), Candida krusei(3.3%) and Candida kefyr(2.2%). The overall isolation rate of Candida species from samples was 53.3%. Antifungal susceptibility indicated that 37.8% and 7.8% of the Candida isolates were resistant to fluconazole and amphotericin B, ***: Predominance of NAC species in ICU patients along with the increasing resistance being recorded to fluconazole which has a major bearing on the morbidity and management of these patients and needs to be further worked upon.

Subcutaneous and breast metastasis from asymptomatic gallbladder carcinoma

BACKGROUND:Though gallbladder carcinoma is asso- ciated with early lymphatic and hematogenous spread, the only common extra-abdominal site of metastasis is *** carcinoma metastasizing to breast and subcutaneous tissue is not known. METHOD:This report describes an interesting and unusual case of asymptomatic gallbladder carcinoma presenting with subcutaneous and breast metastasis. RESULTS:A 42-year-old woman presented with multiple subcutaneous nodules over the abdominal wall,anterior chest wall,back and in bilateral *** needle aspiration cytology(FNAC)of these nodules revealed metastatic *** patient was investigated for a primary *** ultrasound of the abdomen followed by a contrast-enhanced CT scan showed a growth in gallbladder,infiltrating the liver with multiple hepatic ***-guided FNAC from the growth in the gallbladder revealed *** was diagnosed as a case of metastatic adenocarcinoma of the gallbladder and palliative combination chemotherapy with gemcitabine and carboplatin was *** she developed jaundice and deteriorated dramatically in a short span of *** specific therapy could be started and she was given supportive *** died within three weeks of diagnosis due to hepatic encephalopathy. CONCLUSIONS:This report highlights an unusual metastasis of gallbladder carcinoma to the breast and subcutaneous tissue presenting as multiple lesions,which has never been reported in the English *** were unknown sites of metastasis for carcinoma of the ***,bilateral multiple metastatic lesions to breast are also very rare.
