Influence of ionic radius of rare-earths on the structural and electrical properties of Ba_5RTi_3Nb_7O_(30)(R=rare-earth) ferroelectric ceramics

In the present report, BasRTi3Nb7030 （R=La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Dy） compounds were synthesized by solid-state reaction method in order to know the effect of ionic radius of rare-earths on their structural, dielectric, ferroelectric, pyroelectric, piezoelectric and con- ductive properties. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the formation of the compounds having orthorhombic structure. Scanning elec- tron micrographs showed the formation of fine granular microstructure in all the compounds with a decrease in the average grain size with increasing ionic radius of the substituted rare-earths. Detailed dielectric studies showed that the dielectric constant （er） increased while Curie temperature （To） decreased as the ionic radius of the rare-earths increased. With the decrease in the ionic radius of the rare-earths, remanent polarization （2Pr）, piezoelectric （d33） and pyroelectric coefficients were observed to increase in BasRTi3Nb7030 compounds. The temperature variation of dc conductivity suggested that the compounds had negative temperature coefficient of re- sistance （NTCR） behaviour.

The present study area involves part of a deformed coalesced fan located along the Himalayan Frontal Thrust(HFT)on the east of river Tista near the India-Bhutan *** area is marked by two spectacular E-W trending south-sloping scarps namely the Matiali(ca.60 m)and Chalsa(ca.90 m)Scarps and a north-sloping E-W trending Thaljhora(ca.80 m)*** work comprises of a comparative study of geomorphology and geologic history in the adjacent interfluves of Jaldhaka-Gathia and Neora-Murti rivers to understand the tectonic history of the *** mapped the Jaldhaka-Gathia river interfluve at a 1:25,000 scale and report a hitherto unidentified northerly sloping small scarp of ca.5 m height named the Nagrakata *** scarp was identified using satellite images,DEMs,and total station *** interpret that the two northsloping,E-W trending scarps(Thaljhora and Nagrakata Scarps)are manifestations of steep limbs of anticlines over blind south-dipping back *** they form a wrinkle-ridge pair behind the north-dipping HFT,which is manifested by south-sloping Chalsa *** propose a plausible geomorphic model interpreting that deformation along the small fan in the Jaldhaka-Gathia interfluves is younger compared to fan deposition and deformation in the adjacent Mal-Murti *** most recent geomorphology of the Jaldhaka-Gathia interfluve is controlled by tectonism associated with the thrust below the Nagrakata Scarp where the youngest deformation episode is recorded to at around^6 ka and is likely related to motion on a splay off of the thrust beneath the Thaljhora Scarp.

Granitoids between the central and western arm of Ramagiri schist belt in its central part, are broadly classified into the migmatite gneiss, grey granodiorite and pink monzogranite, based on field characteristics and petrographic features. These granitoids belong to the Tonalite-Granodiorite-Monzogranite (TGM) suite of PGC-II. All the samples are fresh as per the CIA values, PC1-PC2 binary plot and MFW ternary plot. The granodiorites occupy the expected field in the normative IUGS, TAS, and R1-R2 classification diagrams, but the monzogranites occupy the monzogranite field in the normative IUGS classification diagram and granite to alkali granite field in the rest. The granodiorites exhibit both ferroan to magnesian, alkali-calcic nature with metaluminous I type features and falls in the calc-alkaline to high K calc-alkaline series. They have high ΣREE (an average 327.905 ppm) content, and show LREE enrichment ((La/Sm)N = 3.1 - 6.8) with enriched but relatively flat HREE ((Gd/Yb)N = 1.75 - 5.26) patterns and weak negative to positive Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu* = 0.62 - 1.18). The monzogranites, on the other hand, are peraluminous, alkalic, ferroan, high K calc-alkaline, S-type granites, exhibiting relatively low ΣREE (an average 118.693 ppm) contents, strongly fractionated REE patterns with highly enriched LREE ((La/Sm)N =1.74 - 9.76), depleted HREE ((Gd/Yb)N = 0.43 - 2.21) patterns having concave upward shape, and strong negative Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu* = 0.23 - 0.89). Geothermobarometry revealed the average emplacement temperature and pressure of the granodiorites and monzogranites as 812.5℃, 8.14 ± 0.6 kbar and 775℃, 3.14 kbar, respectively. Significant increase in HBV, HCV, HIV and syphilis infections among blood donors in West Bengal, Eastern India 2004-2005: Exploratory screening reveals high frequency of occult HBV infection

AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of markers of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among blood donors in Kolkata, Eastern India for two consecutive years and to conduct a pilot study to explore the presence of HBV DNA among hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative but anti-HBc positive blood donors. METHODS: Seroprevalence of HBsAg, anti-HCV and anti-HIV was studied among 113 051 and 106 695 voluntary blood donors screened in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Moreover, a pilot study on 1027 HBsAg negative donors was carried out for evaluating the presence of HBV DNA by PCR on HBsAg negative/anti- HBc positive donors. RESULTS: A statistically significant increase in the prevalence of HBV (1448 vs 1768, P < 0.001), HIV (262 vs 374, P < 0.001), HCV (314 vs 372, P = 0.003) and syphilis (772 vs 853, P = 0.001) infections was noted among blood donors of Kolkata West Bengal in 2005 as compared to 2004. Moreover, the exploratory study on 1027 HBsAg negative donors revealed that 188 (18.3%)of them were anti-HBc positive out of which 21% were positive for HBV DNA. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study underscore the significantly increasing endemicity of hepatitis viruses, syphilis and HIV among the voluntary blood donors of our community. The pilot study indicates a high rate of prevalence of HBV DNA among HBsAg negative/anti-HBc positive donors and thus emphasizes the need for a more sensitive and stringent screening algorithm for blood donations.

Using score function in a matrix game is very rare. In the proposed paper we have considered a matrix game with pay-off as triangular intuitionistic fuzzy number and a new ranking order has been proposed using value judgement index, available definitions and operations. A new concept of score function has been developed to defuzzify the pay-off matrix and solution of the matrix game has been obtained. A numerical example has been given in support of the proposed method.

Under non-random uncertainty, a new idea of finding a possibly optimal solution for linear programming problem is examined in this paper. It is an application of the intuitionistic fuzzy set concept within scope of the existing fuzzy optimization. Here, we solve a linear programming problem (LPP) in an intuitionistic fuzzy environment and compare the result with the solution obtained from other existing techniques. In the process, the result of associated fuzzy LPP is also considered for a better understanding.

Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set (IFS) can be used as a general tool for modeling problems of decision making under uncertainty where, the degree of rejection is defined simultaneously with the degree of acceptance of a piece of information in such a way that these degrees are not complement to each other. Accordingly, an attempt is made to solve intuitionistic fuzzy linear programming problems using a technique based on an earlier technique proposed by Zimmermann to solve fuzzy linear programming problem. Our proposed technique does not require the existing ranking of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. This method is also different from the existing weight assignment method or the Angelov’s method. A comparative study is undertaken and interesting results have been presented.
