Spatio-temporal assessment of soil salinization utilizing remote sensing derivatives,and prediction modeling:Implications for sustainable development

This study aims to investigate the combined use of multi-sensor datasets(Landsat 4–5&8 OLI satellite imagery,spatial resolution=30 m)coupled with field studies to evaluate spatio-temporal dynamics of soil salinization along the coastal belt in West Bengal,*** study assesses soil salinization by mapping the salinity and electrical conductivity of saturation extract(ECe)and utilizing spectral signatures for estimating soil *** SI change(%)was analyzed(2021–1995),categorizing increases in salinity levels into 5%,10%,and 50%changes possibly due to salt encrustation on the soil *** land use land cover(LULC)change map(2021–1995)demonstrates that the study area is continuously evolving in terms of ***,in the study area,soil salinity ranges from 0.03 ppt to 3.87 ppt,and ECe varies from 0.35 dSm^(-1)to 52.85 dSm^(-1).Additionally,vulnerable saline soil locations were further *** of soil salinity based on ECe reveals that 26%of samples fall into the nonsaline category,while the rest belong to the saline *** Spectral signatures of the soil samples(n=19)acquired from FieldSpec hand spectrometer show significant absorption features around 1400,1900,and 2250 nm and indicate salt *** results of reflectance spectroscopy were crossvalidated using X-ray fluorescence and scanning electron *** study also employed partial least square regression(PLSR)approach to predict ECe(r^(2)=0.79,RMSE=3.29)and salinity parameters(r^(2)=0.75,RMSE=0.51),suggesting PLSR applicability in monitoring salt-affected soils *** study’s conclusion emphasizes that remote sensing data and multivariate analysis can be crucial tools for mapping spatial variations and predicting soil *** has also been concluded that saline groundwater used for irrigation and aqua-cultural activities exacerbates soil *** study will help policymakers/farmers identify the salt degradation problem more effectivel

Mathematical Modeling of Moored Ship Motion in Arbitrary Harbor utilizing the Porous Breakwater

The motion of the moored ship in the harbor is a classical hydrodynamics problem that still faces many challenges in naval operations,such as cargo transfer and ship pairings between a big transport ship and some small ships.A mathematical model is presented based on the Laplace equation utilizing the porous breakwater to investigate the moored ship motion in a partially absorbing/reflecting *** motion of the moored ship is described with the hydrodynamic forces along the rotational motion(roll,pitch,and yaw)and translational motion(surge,sway,and heave).The efficiency of the numerical method is verified by comparing it with the analytical study of Yu and Chwang(1994)for the porous breakwater,and the moored ship motion is compared with the theoretical and experimental data obtained by Yoo(1998)and Takagi et al.(1993).Further,the current numerical scheme is implemented on the realistic Visakhapatnam Fishing port,India,in order to analyze the hydrodynamic forces on moored ship motion under resonance *** model incorporates some essential strategies such as adding a porous breakwater and utilizing the wave absorber to reduce the port’s *** has been observed that these tactics have a significant impact on the resonance inside the port for safe maritime ***,the current numerical model provides an efficient tool to reduce the resonance within the arbitrarily shaped ports for secure anchoring.

Coalescence of traditional medicine Ayurveda and in silico technology is a rigor for supplementary development of future-ready effective traditional medicine. Ayurveda is a popular traditional medicine in South Asia, emanating worldwide for the treatment of metabolic disorders and chronic illness. Techniques of in silico biology are not much explored for the investigation of a variety of bioactive phytochemicals of Ayurvedic herbs. Drug repurposing, reverse pharmacology, and polypharmacology in Ayurveda are areas in silico explorations that are needed to understand the rich repertoire of herbs, minerals, herbo-minerals, and assorted Ayurvedic formulations. This review emphasizes exploring the concept of Ayurveda with in silico approaches and the need for Ayurinformatics studies. It also provides an overview of in silico studies done on phytoconstituents of some important Ayurvedic plants, the utility of in silico studies in Ayurvedic phytoconstituents/formulations, limitations/challenges, and prospects of in silico studies in Ayurveda. This article discusses the convergence of in silico work, especially in the least explored field of Ayurveda. The focused coalesce of these two domains could present a predictive combinatorial platform to enhance translational research magnitude. In nutshell, it could provide new insight into an Ayurvedic drug discovery involving an in silico approach that could not only alleviate the process of traditional medicine research but also enhance its effectiveness in addressing health care.

Recent Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicle emission standards are the first ever initiative to control particles on a number basis at the source. Related standards are also desirable for ambient nanoparticles （taken in this article to be those below 300 rim） to protect against possible adverse effects on public health and the environment. However, there are a number of technical challenges that need to be tackled before developing a regulatory framework for atmospheric nanoparticles. Some of the challenges derive from a lack of standardisation of the key measurement parameters, including sampling, necessary for robust evaluation of particle number concentrations, especially in the context of insufficient knowledge of the physicochemical characteristics of emerging sources （i.e. bio-fuel derived and manufactured nanoparti- cles）. Ideally, ambient concentrations of primary particles could be linked to primary particle emissions by use of nanoparticle dispersion models, and secondary nanoparticles using photochemical modeling tools. The limitations in these areas are discussed. Although there is inadequate information on the exact biological mechanism through which these particles cause harm, it is argued that this should not in itself delay the introduction of regulation. This article reviews the missing links between the existing knowledge of nanoparticle number concentrations and the advances required to tackle the technical challenges implied in developing regulations.

Background:This study aimed to assess trends in gender differentials in child immunization beyond the conventional male-female dichotomy,by considering gender,surviving siblings,birth order and different compositions of older siblings in tandem,during 1990-2007 in India and ***:Using different rounds of Demographic and Health Survey datasets,we adopted the World Health Organization guidelines for appraising full immunization among *** composition of surviving older siblings was ***-Armitage and the Chisquare tests were used to test linear and nonlinear trends,***:Although child immunization has increased during the period of 1990-2007 in both India and Pakistan,results showed that more than 50%of the eligible children did not receive the recommended *** results also showed that boys and girls with no older surviving siblings and those with only surviving siblings of the opposite sex appeared to have fully immunized proportionally compared with the children with other sibling ***:The findings confirmed that girls and boys were not always treated equally,and that there was a clear pattern of selective neglect in child immunization in both countries during the period of 1990-2007.

Energy Management Strategies for Modern Electric Vehicles Using MATLAB/Simulink

The paper describes the various energy management techniques that can be implemented for a modern electric vehicle by using MATLAB/SimuUnk. The Renault Twizy vehicle is considered for MATLAB simulation. Regenerative braking technique is discussed, in which the kinetic energy is converted to electricity to charge the battery of the vehicle when the brakes are applied or when the vehicle is moving down the hill. A solar photovoltaic （PV） on the roof-top of the vehicle is implemented to charge the battery used in the vehicle. The simulation results are highlighted and energy management strategies are presented. The results showed that the speed control of direct current （DC） motor during the motoring mode and regenerative braking mode was successfully achieved by using a bi-directional DC-DC converter and a proportional-integral （PI） controller at various reference speeds set by the user by applying a variable load torques to the motor. The size of solar PV on roof-top of the vehicle was found to be 280 W that charged the 48 V battery of the vehicle by using a bi-directional DC-DC converter, which was evaluated by using MATLAB/Simulink.

Infectious diseases(e.g.,coronavirus disease 2019)dramatically impact human life,economy and social *** the low-cost and energy-saving approaches is essential in removing infectious virus particles from indoors,such as in *** application of air purification devices,such as negative ion generators(ionizers),gains popularity because of the favorable removal capacity for particles and the low operation ***,small and portable ionizers have potential disadvantages in the removal efficiency owing to the limited horizontal diffusion of negative *** study aims to investigate the layout strategy(number and location)of ionizers based on the energy-efficient natural ventilation in the classroom to improve removal efficiency(negative ions to particles)and decrease infection *** infected students were considered in the *** simulations of negative ion and particle concentrations were performed and validated by the *** showed that as the number of ionizers was 4 and 5,the removal performance was largely improved by combining ionizer with natural *** with the scenario without an ionizer,the scenario with 5 ionizers largely increased the average removal efficiency from around 20%to 85%and decreased the average infection risk by 23%.The setup with 5 ionizers placed upstream of the classroom was determined as the optimal layout strategy,particularly when the location and number of the infected students were *** work can provide a guideline for applying ionizers to public buildings when natural ventilation is used.

Glacier-Glacial Lake Interactions and Glacial Lake Development in the Central Himalaya,India(1994–2017)

Despite several regional glacier and glacier lake inventories, the relationship between receding glacier, glacial lake evolution(glacial-lake interactions) and their sensitivity to different forcing factors have not been properly understood yet. To better understand these processes, we used satellite images collected in 1994, 2015 and 2017 to monitor the spatially-explicit evolution of glacial lakes and glacier changes. The results show a total of 1 353 glacial lakes covering an area of 7.96 km;in the year 2015. Out of these, a total of 137 glacial lakes having an area of >0.01 km;and located within 2 km periphery of mother glacier have been selected for the monitoring of spatial development between 1994 and 2017. We found an increase in the total lake area from ~4.9 to ~7.73 km;between 1994 and 2017,corresponding to an overall expansion of ~57%. The total area covered by the glaciers associated with these lakes reduced from ~365 km;in 1994 to ~358 km^(2) in 2017, accounting for a glacier loss of ~7 km^(2) and corresponding to ~1.92% reduction. Our study results are in agreement with global glacier behavior, revealing a rapid glacier recession and accelerated glacial lake expansion under an unprecedented climate change scenario. In addition, the results suggest a significant reduction in the glacier area and a close relationship between the glacier melting and lake changes.

This paper reports a wind-powered water pumping system implemented in rural side of Pakistan. The design methodology presented in this paper shah enhance the efficiency of the existing Savonius turbine＇s performance by modifying it aerodynamically. Blades with different twist angles are designed in Solid Edge and analyzed using computational fluid dynamics （CFD） with ANSYS FLUENT software. Static and rotational analyses are performed to get optimized twist angle and results are highlighted. The performances of the turbine in both static and rotational analyses are compared.
