Magnetotelluric investigation of lithospheric electrical structure beneath the Dharwar Craton in south India:Evidence for mantle suture and plume-continental interaction

Broad-band and long period magnetotelluric measurements made at 63 locations along -500 km long Chikmagalur-kavali profile,that cut across the Dharwar craton (DC) and Eastern Ghat Mobile Belt (EGMB) in south India,is modelled to examine the lithosphere architecture of the cratonic domain and define tectonic *** 2-D resistivity model shows moderately conductive features that intersperse a highly resistive background of crystalline rocks and spatially connect to the exposed schist belts or granitic intrusions in the *** features are therefore interpreted as images of fossil pathways of the volcanic emplacements associated with the greenstone belt and granite suite formation exposed in the region.A near vertical conductive feature in the upper mantle under the Chitradurga Shear Zone represents the Archean suture between the western and eastern blocks of *** thick (-200 km) cratonic (highly resistive) lithosphere is preserved,significant part of the cratonic lithosphere below the western DC is modified due to plume-continental lithosphere interactions during the CretaceouseTertiary period.A west-verging moderately conductive feature imaged beneath EGMB lithosphere is interpreted as the remnant of the Proterozoic collision process between the Indian land mass and East *** (-120 km) lithosphere is seen below the EGMB,which form the exterior margin of the India shield subsequent to its separation from East Antarctica through rifting and opening of the Indian Ocean in the Cretaceous.

Polynomial friction pendulum isolators(PFPIs)for seismic performance control of benchmark highway bridge

The seismic response of a benchmark highway bridge isolated with passive polynomial friction pendulum isolators （PFPIs） is investigated and subjected to six bidirectional ground motion records. The benchmark study is based on a lumped mass finite-element model of the 91/5 highway overcrossing located in Southern California. The PFPI system possesses two important parameters; one is horizontal flexibility and the other is energy absorbing capacity through friction. The evaluation criteria of the benchmark bridge arc analyzed considering two parameters, time period of the isolator and coefficient of friction of the isolation surface. The results of the numerical study are compared with those obtained from the traditional friction pendulum system （FPS）. Dual design performance of the PFPI system suppressed the displacement and acceleration response of the benchmark highway bridge. The dual design hysteresis loop of the PFPI system is the main advantage over the linear hysteresis loop of the FPS. The numerical result indicates that the seismic performance of the PFPI system is better than that of the traditional FPS isolated system. Further, it is observed that variations of the isolation time period and coefficient of friction of the FPS and PFPI systems have a significant effect on the peak responses of the benchmark highway bridge.

Development and validation of a stability-indicating RP–HPLC method for estimation of atazanavir sulfate in bulk

A stability-indicating reverse phase–high performance liquid chromatography（RP–HPLC） method was developed and validated for the determination of atazanavir sulfate in tablet dosage forms using C_（18） column Phenomenix（250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm） with a mobile phase consisting of 900 mL of HPLC grade methanol and100 mL of water of HPLC grade. The pH was adjusted to 3.55 with acetic acid. The mobile phase was sonicated for 10 min and filtered through a 0.45 μm membrane filter at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min. The detection was carried out at 249 nm and retention time of atazanavir sulfate was found to be 8.323 min. Linearity was observed from 10 to 90 μg/mL（coefficient of determination R^2 was 0.999） with equation, y=23.427x＋*** sulfate was subjected to stress conditions including acidic, alkaline, oxidation, photolysis and thermal degradation, and the results showed that it was more sensitive towards acidic degradation. The method was validated as per ICH guidelines.

Node Coverage Algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Mobile Agents

This paper proposes fault tolerant algorithms for routing mobile agents in a single channel wireless sensor network which cover every node in the network. These algorithms use local knowledge (assume no knowledge of global deployment or topology, etc). We propose the algorithms and show mathematical analysis to support our claims. The paper ends with simulation studies and discussion of results.

Fused deposition modeling （FDM） is an additive manufacturing technique used to fabricate intricate parts in 3D, within the shortest possible time without using tools, dies, fixtures, or human intervention. This article empiri- cally reports the effects of the process parameters, i.e., the layer thickness, raster angle, raster width, air gap, part orientation, and their interactions on the accuracy of the length, width, and thicknes, of acrylonitrile-butadiene- styrene （ABSP 400） parts fabricated using the FDM tech- nique. It was found that contraction prevailed along the directions of the length and width, whereas the thickness increased from the desired value of the fabricated part. Optimum parameter settings to minimize the responses, such as the change in length, width, and thickness of the test specimen, have been determined using Taguchi＇s parameter design. Because Taguchi＇s philosophy fails to obtain uniform optimal factor settings for each response, in this study, a fuzzy inference system combined with the Taguchi philosophy has been adopted to generate a single response from three responses, to reach the specific target values with the overall optimum factor level settings. Further, Taguchi and artificial neural network predictive models are also presented in this study for an accuracy evaluation within the dimensions of the FDM fabricated parts, subjected to various operating conditions. The pre- dicted values obtained from both models are in good agreement with the values from the experiment data, with mean absolute percentage errors of 3.16 and 0.15, respectively. Finally, the confirmatory test results showed an improvement in the multi-response performance index of 0.454 when using the optimal FDM parameters over the initial values.

Dear Editor, The structure of eukaryotic promoter is modular, consisting of different sub-domains （Benfey et al., 1990）. Cross-talk among these sub-domains and effective combinatorial interac- tions between the specific cis-element/s with respective trans- factor/s usually control the strength and tissue specificity of the promoter. Further, specificity/inducibility of promoter can be modified by altering its genetic architecture through ＇cis-rearrangement＇（Rushton et al., 2002） and ＇swapping of sub-domains＇（Bhullar et al., 2003）. Is Earnings Management a Technique to Reduce Cost of Capital？ Exploratory Study on Indian Companies

Earnings management has attracted lots of academicians towards the research due to the emerging frauds and downfall of great corporate giants of the world. Mainly earnings measurement is based on the accounting estimates which managers can easily manipulate for their self-interest. The study investigates the relationship between cost of capital and the earnings measurement for the Indian firms. Measurement of earnings is mostly computed by taking either discretionary accruals （DAC） or non-discretionary accruals （NDAC）. Present study has used Dechow, Sloan, and Sweeney （1995） model for earnings measurement and for analyzing the results. Panel data regression has also been used. Findings of the study conclude that DAC has a significant influence on cost of capital, but NDAC has no influence.

Ultraviolet-B Radiation Alters Soybean Growth and Seed Quality

Research on the effects of ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation on soybean seed quality is limited. The objective of this study was to quantify UV-B doses, 0, 5, 10 & 15 kJ•m–2•d–1, on soybean growth and seed quality. The experiment was conducted in the Soil-Plant-Atmosphere-Research (SPAR) facility. Chambers located at the R.R. Foil Plant Science Research Facility of Mississippi State University, Mississippi, USA, were used. Each SPAR chamber consists of a steel soil bin to accommodate the root system, a Plexiglas chamber to accommodate plant canopy and a heating, and cooling system connected to air ducts that pass conditioned air to cause leaf flutter through the plant canopy. The SPAR units, supported by an environmental monitoring and control systems, are networked to provide automatic acquisition and storage of the data, monitored every 10 seconds throughout the day and night. Soybean cultivar Pioneer 93Y92 (maturity group IV, Roundup Ready) was used in the study. The desired UV-B radiation was supplied by square-wave UV-B supplementation systems under near ambient PAR and delivered to plants for eight hours, each day, from 08:00 to 16:00 h by eight fluorescent UV-313 lamps. The results showed that increased UV-B did not influence many of the growth parameters because the treatments were imposed at mid-fruiting period. Seed quality parameters that are important for seed industry and human and animal nutrition were all affected by UV-B. Protein and palmitic and oleic acids declined linearly, while oil and linoleic and linolenic acid contents increased with increased UV-B. Sucrose, stachyose, and stearic acid contents showed quadratic trends, increased to about 4 - 5 kJ of UV-B and declined at higher doses. Thus, both current and projected UV-B radiation levels can modify soybean growth and seed quality. Seismic Performance of Dry-Friction Devices in Shear-Frame Buildings

In recent years the application of friction-based passive energy dissipation devices have been proven very effective in reducing structural response to earthquake excitations and also implemented for a large number of buildings. Their design heavily relies on numerical simulations to model the influence of the energy dissipation devices. The modeling of friction forces must be accurate for realistic simulation of the influence of these devices. In state-of-the-practice, the hysteretic behavior of friction devices has been typically modeled with Coulomb friction having a constant coefficient of friction. However, the basic laws for typical sliding materials and experimental investigations show non-linear relationship between friction and sliding velocity, which includes stiction and Stribeck effect. The influence of stiction and Stribeck effect may be significant and can not be ignored in simulating the dynamic responses of structures with friction-based energy dissipation devices. In this paper the optimal performance of dry friction device in shear-frame buildings when subjected to earthquake ground motions has been investigated. The focus of this paper is on the optimal minimization of response of the shear-frame building. Since buildings with friction devices behave in a highly nonlinear manner, nonlinear response-history analysis considering comprehensive sliding friction models has been carried out. The performance has also been evaluated using the various response measures： the maximum absolute acceleration, the maximum base shear, and the maximum inter-story drift. Different performance indices have been used to quantify the influence of the device properties.

Epithelial-Myoepithelial Carcinoma of Parotid Gland—A Surprising Clinical Entity

Objective: Objective of this study is to highlight the importance of considering clinical and radiological findings in parotid tumors before operating tumors with high suspicion of malignancy though reported as benign on histopathology. Material and Methods: 20 years old female patient underwent radical parotidectomy for epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the left parotid gland which was diagnosed on FNAC. Contrast CT and contrast MRI also showed a tumor involving left parotid gland with destruction of ramus of mandible and loss of tissue planes medially & laterally. Facial nerve was infiltrated by tumor, thus sacrificed. Post operatively, patient had left facial palsy and was discharged after 7 days without any other sequelae. Postoperative histopathology showed pleomorphic adenoma with positive resection margins medially, superiorly & posteriorly. No further treatment was given in view of the benign nature of the tumor. Results: Patient was kept on monthly follow up and was disease free at one year follow up. Conclusion: Aggressive surgical treatment should be planned for malignant parotid tumors to give a better tumor free survival. Misdiagnosis can occur on FNAC as it can hit only one part of the tumor thus missing a malignant tumor or can interpret pleomorphic adenoma as epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma.
