Relationship between species richness,taxonomic distinctness, functional diversity,and local contribution to β diversity and effects of habitat disturbance in the riparian spider community of the Ganga River, India

Background In the riverine riparian ecosystem, particularly in India, the knowledge of the effects of habitat disturbance on taxonomic distinctness, functional diversity, and local contribution to β diversity（LCBD） of spider community is elusive. The present study examined the relationships between the index of taxonomic distinctness（Δ+）,index of variation in taxonomic distinctness（λ+）, functional evenness（FEve）, functional divergence（FDiv）, functional dispersion（FDis）, and LCBD of spider community of the Ganga River and the effects of habitat disturbance on these indices. A total of 27 sampling sites were selected along the bank of the Ganga River. Based on the rating of the disturbance scores, the sites were classified into lowly, moderately, and highly disturbed sites. To understand the relationships between species richness, Δ+, λ+, FDis, FDiv, FEve, LCBD, and habitat disturbance score, Pearson's correlation was calculated, followed by the linear regression model. The one-way multivariate analysis of variance was used to find differences in taxonomic distinctness and functional diversity in the different disturbed *** Significant relationships were found between λ+and Δ+, FDis and Δ+, FDis and λ+, FDiv and species richness, FEve and species richness, FEve and λ+, FEve and habitat disturbance, LCBD and FEve, and LCBD and habitat disturbance. A significant difference was present in the indices of functional diversity between the lowly, moderately,and highly disturbed sites. Structural and Dielectric Properties of ZnO Added (Na_(1/2)Bi_(1/2))TiO_3 Ceramics

Structural and dielectric properties of polycrystalline samples of lead-free （l-x）（Nal/2Bil/2）TiO3-xZnO, prepared using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method, were investigated in the composition range of 0≤x≤0.10. Rietveld analyses of X-ray diffraction data indicated the formation of a single-phase hexagonal structure with R3c symmetry. Williamson-Hall approach was applied to estimate the apparent particle size and lattice strain of the compounds. Temperature dependence of dielectric constant showed that the addition of ZnO to （Na1/2Bi1/2）TiO3 shifted the phase transition temperature towards higher side, a property favourable for practical applications of these ceramics. Further, temperature dependent permittivity data provided low temperature coefficient of capacitance （TCC〈8%） up to 100℃. Furthermore, a decrease in the value of dielectric loss with an increase in ZnO content was observed.

Hydro-elastic computational analysis of a marine propeller using two-way fluid structure interaction

Feasibility of telemedicine program using a hand-held nonmydriatic retinal camera in Panama

AIM: To evaluate the image quality of a telemedicine screening program for retinal disease using a nonmydriatic camera among rural island communities in Bocas del Toro, ***: In June 2018, a group of three medical students volunteered at clinics operated by the Floating Doctors in the province of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Nonmydriatic images of the retina were obtained using the Pictor Plus(Volk Optical, Mentor OH), randomized, and sent to two board-certified ophthalmologists at the University of California, Irvine for analysis using a modified version of the FOTO-ED scale. Inter-rater reliability was calculated using the kappa ***: Seventy patients provided a total of 127 images. Average image quality was 3.31, and most frequent image quality was 4/5 on the FOTO-ED scale. Thirty patients had at least one eye image with ideal quality(42.86%), while only one patient had no adequate photos taken(1.43%). However, high quality images were obtained in both eyes in only 12 patients(17.14%). The inter-rater reliability between the two ophthalmologists was ***: Further improvements are necessary to acquire higher quality images more reliably. Role of schorl’s electrostatic field in discoloration of methyl orange wastewater using schorl as catalyst in the presence of H_2O_2

Dyeing wastewater containing methyl orange (MO) could be effectively discolored by schorl-catalyzed Fenton-like system. Experimental results indicated that the MO discoloration ratios could be increased by increasing schorl dosage, temperature, initial H2O2 concentration, and by decreasing solution pH. When the raw schorl and the schorl samples sintered at 750°C, 850°C, 950°C and 1050°C were used as catalyst in Fenton-like system, the MO discoloration ratios obtained were 82%, 31%, 30%, 31% and 7%, respectively. XRD results showed that samples sintered at 750°C, 850°C and 950°C had no change in structure and still held the crystal structure of schorl and quartz, but, the content of schorl crystal decreased. Whereas, schorl crystal completely disappeared in the sample sintered at 1050°C and two new crystal phases of hematite and spinel were formed, which resulted in disappearance of the spontaneous ‘electrostatic poles’. Hence, it was inferred that the electrostatic field of schorl crystal could enhance the MO discoloration by schorl-catalyzed Fenton-like reaction.

Application of Corona Charge Deposition Technique in Thin Film Industry

With the advent of new materials, microchip industry is investigating new architecture to further scale down the device size. New technologies are on the way to achieving this goal without compromising with the device’s performance and benefits. In this new scenario, corona charge deposition technique (CCDT) has become an indispensable part of the thin film industry. Due to the non-invasive and non-destructive nature of corona charge ions, they are effectively being used to improve the device properties. They are also useful to understand the electrical properties of insulators and other materials. Corona-Kelvin non-contact metrology or the C-KM is the most recent development in this field. In this review, the applications of corona charge deposition technique in the semiconductor industry have been reviewed. Further, the methodology involved is described. The advances as well as challenges and improvements including the future research are also discussed.

Discoloration of Rhodamine B dyeing wastewater by schorl-catalyzed Fenton-like reaction

As other natural iron-bearing minerals, schorl could be taken as an effective iron source for degradation of organic pollutants by mineral-catalyzed Fenton-like system. In our present study, the schorl-catalyzed Fenton-like system has been successfully developed for discoloration of an active commercial dye, Rhodamine B (RhB), in an aqueous solution. Through a number of batch discoloration experiments under various conditions, it was found that the reactivity of the system increased by, respectively, increasing schorl dosage, temperature, hydrogen peroxide starting concentration and by decreasing the pH. Over 90% of discoloration ratio could be gained in less than 30 min, and nearly 70% of total organic carbon (TOC) could be removed in less than 200 min. And, the schorl catalyst could be repeatedly used at least ten times, still with high catalytic activity. Comparative studies indicated that the RhB discoloration ratios were much higher in presence of schorl and H2O2 than those in presence of schorl or H2O2 only, which suggested that the schorl-catalyzed Fenton-like reaction governed the RhB discoloration process. The content of Fe ion leaching in the solution was also measured using inductively coupling plasma-atomic emission spectra (ICP-AES). A mechanism proposed herein suggested that adsorption and Fenton-like reaction (heterogeneous and homogeneous) were responsible for the discoloration of RhB.
