Objective:To evaluate inhouse developed SEVA TB peroxidase enzyme immunoassay using cocktail of mycobacterial excretory-secretory antigens(ES-31,ES-43 & EST-6) for antibody detection and their affinity purified antibodies for antigen detection in tuberculosis suspected ***:Inhouse developed SEVA TB peroxidase enzyme immunoassay was evaluated prospectively in 73 suspected pulmonary and 46 extra-pulmonary tuberculosis patients during November 2008~March 2009 in a tertiary hospital located in rural ***:Assay on prospective analysis showed 100% correlation of pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis(EPTB) acid fast bacilli positivity and antitubercular treatment in 11 *** nine PTB and 12 EPTB cases showed negative for EUSA test and were also not given antitubercular *** 30 PTB and 27 EPTB cases showing ELISA positivity were neither acid fast bacilli positive nor antitubercular therapy *** cases may possibly have dormant infection and need further *** EPTB cases ELISA was observed to be more useful than AFB smear ***:This inhouse developed user-friendly peroxidase ELISA can be used as an adjunct test of smear microscopy or culture techniques for routine screening of patients suspected of PTB or EPTB.

Co-gasification of coal and biomass an emerging clean energy technology: Status and prospects of development in Indian context

Co-gasification of coal and biomass is emerging as potential clean fuel technology to achieve high thermodynamic efficiency with relatively low CO2 emission. The coal and biomass have been exclusively gasified more than a century to obtain gas–liquid fuels and the production of chemicals. Co-gasification has higher efficiency than the solitary coal gasification because the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content of biomass help to ignite and enhance the rate of gasification. It is suggested that the extensive research on carbon reactivity pattern, heat release, reaction kinetics, etc. may support to reduce the uncertainties in the co-gasification performance of coal and biomass blends, particularly in India. The prospects of co-gasification technology in Indian context have been discussed considering the abundance of varieties of coal and biomass. The suitability of existing gasifier procedures and their limitations with operating parameters like temperature, residence time, density optimisation, feed rate, agglomeration intensity, the tar formation and techno-economics involved are described. Also, this paper reviews the research highlights of the history of co-gasification and the advancement in upcoming challenges like a design of gasifier, access and preparation of biomass, disposal of residue, environmental concerns and reassurance to the operators for execution of large and small-scale projects.

Microbial growth in soil is mostly limited by lack of carbon (C). However, adding fresh, C-rich litter can induce nitrogen (N) limitation. We studied the effect of alleviating C and N limitation in high-pH (> 8) soils, soils expected to favor bacterial over fungal growth. Nitrogen limitation was induced by incubating soils amended with C-rich substrate (starch or straw) for 4 weeks. Limiting nutrients and the effects of alleviating limitation were then studied by adding C (as glucose) or N (as NH_4NO_3) and measuring microbial growth and respiration after 4 d. In non-amended, C-limited soils, adding C but not N increased both microbial respiration and bacterial growth. In N-limited, substrate-amended soils, adding C increased respiration, whereas adding N increased both microbial respiration and growth. Inducing N limitation by amending with straw was most easily detected in increased fungal growth after the addition of N, whereas with starch, only bacterial growth responded to alleviating N limitation. Compared to earlier results using a low-pH soil, the effect of substrate used to induce N limitation was more important than pH for inducing bacterial or fungal growth after alleviating N limitation. Furthermore, we found no evidence that alleviating N limitation resulted in decreased respiration concomitant with increased microbial growth in soil, suggesting no drastic changes in C use efficiency.

The increasing demand for the development of unprecedented routes to access fluorinated molecules hasled researchers to perform intriguing research around the world. In this context, fluorinating reagents andfluorinated building blocks have been the two pillars for the generation of diverse organic ***, synthetic approaches involving transition-metal catalyzed C–H functionalization have tremendously evolved in the past two decades. Looking towards the great potential of the C–H functionalizationstrategy to maximize atom- and step-economy, the approach has been utilized for the synthesis of fluorinated molecules. Moreover, Fluorinated building blocks have been used in organic synthesis over the pastseveral decades;however newer strategies to use these building blocks have recently been explored. In thisreview, we have presented the advances made in the recent past in transition-metal catalyzed directed C–Hfunctionalization with various fluorinated building blocks. The understanding of the mechanistic aspects ofdirected C–H activation has led to efficient design of newer protocols for cross-couplings involving fluorinated building blocks as one of the coupling partners. Furthermore, it has been observed that in almost allcases the outcome of the reaction is greatly influenced by the effect of fluorine.

Owing to platinum's nobility,catalytic potential and vast range of possible biomedical applications,synthesis of platinum nanoparticles is attracting the attention of scientists *** the plant mediated methods are simple and easy,they require fine tuning of reaction parameters so as to synthesize nanoparticles of desired *** present study aimed to optimize the food waste almond skin extract mediated synthesis of biocompatible platinum nanoparticles with catalytic,enzyme-mimicking,and antioxidant *** optimization of reaction parameters indicated that 10 mM of precursor in 2:1 ratio with extract,pH 9,and incubation at 90°C for 14 min were the optimum *** characterization using various spectroscopic and imaging techniques indicated that platinum nanoparticles were 6–8 nm in size,face centered cubic,irregularly shaped,and negatively *** tested for catalytic activity,platinum nanoparticles catalyzed highest of 90.39%reduction of 4-nitrophenol in 16 *** reaction containing 30 ppm of 4-nitrophenol,catalyst dosage of 0.6 mg/mL,and pH 10 followed pseudo-first order ***,platinum nanoparticles were found to possess amylase-mimicking activity of 3.83μg/mL/*** addition,platinum nanoparticles showed strong antioxidant activities in a dose-dependent manner signifying them as potentially good antioxidant *** tested for cytotoxicity,peripheral blood mononuclear cells were found unaffected when treated with relatively high concentrations(100μg/mL)of PtNP demonstrating good ***,the present study successfully demonstrated the use of almond skin extract as food waste for the biogenic synthesis of biocompatible platinum nanoparticles with biological activities.

Photovoltaic solar thin films zinc telluride studies on chemically deposited have been carried out to assess its suitability for use in the conversion of solar energy to electrical energy. The configuration of fabricated cell is n-ZnTe| NaOH (0.1M) + S (0.1M) + Na2S (0.1M)|C(graphite). The study shows that ZnTe thin films are n-type conductivity. The junction ideality factor was found to be 2.87. The flat band potential is found to be -0.652 V. The barrier height value was found to be 0.583 eV. The study of the power output characteristic shows open circuit voltage, short circuit current, fill factor and efficiency were found to be 150 mV, 25.6 μA, 24.86% and 0.49%, respectively. The photovoltaic cell characterization of the thin films is carried out by studying current-voltage characteristics in dark, capacitance-voltage in dark, barrier height measurements, power output characteristics.

Solar cell technology comes with unique temperature coefficients. These temperature coefficients are important and temperature of the solar cell has direct influence on the power output of a photovoltaic cells. CdTe is a very robust and chemically stable material and for this reason its related solar cell. Thin film photovoltaic technology is now the only thin film technology in the first top 10 producers in the world. The strong improvement in efficiency in the last 7 years was obtained by a new redesign of the CdTe solar cell device reaching a single solar cell. In this paper, we describe the fabrication process following the history of the solar cell as it was developed in the early years up to the latest development and changes. The configuration of fabricated cell is n-CdTe/NaOH (0.15 M) + S (0.15 M) + Na2S (0.15 M)/C(graphite). The junction ideality factor was found to be 2.63, 2.13, and 1.89. The flat band potential is found to be -0.400, -0.450, -0.501 V. The barrier height value was found to be 0.523, 0.487, and 0.436 eV. The study of power output characteristic shows open circuit voltage, short circuit current, fill factor and efficiency were found to be 120 mV, 24.2 μA, 32.68%, 26.18%, and 19.73% and 0.63%, 0.37%, and 0.23%, respectively. The lighted ideality factor was calculated and found to be 3.26, 1.87, and 1.17. Spectra attain maximum value of current at λ = 580 nm and decrease with increase in wavelength. The photovoltaic cell characterization of the thin films is carried out by studying current-voltage characteristics in dark, capacitance-voltage in dark, barrier height measurements, power output characteristics.
