Predicting suitability of different scale-dependent dispersivities for reactive solute transport through stratified porous media

In this paper,the behavior of breakthrough curves(BTCs) for reactive solute transport through stratified porous media is investigated.A physical laboratory model for layered porous media was constructed,in which thin layer of gravel was sandwiched in between two thick layers of natural *** layer and natural soil layers were hydraulically connected as single porous continuum.A constant source of tracer was connected through gravel layer and elucidated at different sampling points in the direction of *** multiprocess non-equilibrium(MPNE) transport equation with scale-dependent dispersivity function was used to simulate experimental BTCs of reactive solute transport through layered porous *** values of equilibrium sorption coefficient and other input parameters were obtained *** simulation of BTC was performed using MPNE model with scale-dependent *** simulation of different scale-dependent dispersivities was then compared and it was found that for field scale of estimation of dispersivity,asymptotic and exponential dispersivity functions performed *** continuation to the comparison of simulated BTCs obtained using different models,spatial moment analysis of each aforesaid scale-dependent dispersivity model was also *** moment analysis provides the information related to mean solute mass,rate of mass travel,and mean plume *** and constant dispersivities showed higher variance as compared to asymptotic and exponential dispersion *** supports the field applicability of asymptotic and exponential dispersivity *** BTCs were also found to elucidate a nonzero concentration with time,which was clearly affected by physical *** natural condition,such information is required in effective aquifer remediation process.

Evaluation of anti-inflammatory potential of Nardostachys jatamansi rhizome in experimental rodents

Objective:To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of Nardostachys jatamansi(***)rhizome against acute,subacute and chronic models of inflammation in experimental ***:*** rhizome extract(150 and 300 mg/kg,p.o.)and the reference drugs phenylbutazone(100 mg/kg,p.o.)and acetylsalicylic acid(300 mg/kg,p.o.)were evaluated using models for inflammation(autacoids induced hind paw oedema,formaldehyde induced hind paw oedema,carrageenin-induced paw oedema,cotton pellet granuloma and subcutaneous air pouch model).Results:In acute inflammation as produced by carrageenin 29.06%and 55.81%,by histamine 25.0%and 39.28%,by 5-hydroxytryptamine 21.37%and 36.95%and by prostaglandin E2-induced hind paw oedema 31.03%and 44.82%protection was *** in subacute anti-inflammatory models using formaldehyde-induced hind paw oedema(after 1.5 h)13.88%and 33.33%and in chronic anti-inflammatory model using cotton pellet granuloma 7.4%and 17.58%protection from inflammation was *** rhizome extract also inhibited the inflammatory mediators(nitric oxide by 12.81%and 38.41%,by prostaglandin E212.58%and 47.82%while by TNF-α13.51%and 41.89%)produced in the ***:The results of this study strongly indicate the protective effect of *** rhizome extract against acute,subacute and chronic models of inflammation,which may be attributed to its anti-inflammatory potential.

In this paper, we present classical molecular dynamics （MD） simulations of model polymer/CNT composites constructed by embedding a single wall （10,10） CNT into two different amorphous polymer matrices： poly（methyl methacrylate） and poly{（m-phenylene-vinylene）-co- [（2,5-dioctoxy-p-phenylene） vinylene]}, respectively, with different volume fractions. The simulation results support the idea that it is possible to use CNTs to mechanically reinforce an appropri- ate polymer matrix, especially in the longitudinal direction of the nanotube. The comparison of the simulation results with the macroscopic rule-of-mixtures for composite systems showed that for strong interfacial interactions, there can be large deviations of the results from the rule-of- mixtures. In order to verify this study, results obtained have been compared with those given by Elliott and Han （2007）.

Effect of Semecarpus anacardium fruits on reproductive function of male albino rats

Aim: To evaluate the effect of an ethanolic extract of Semecarpus anacardium fruits on spermatogenesis in albino rats. Methods: Male albino rats were fed with a 50 % ethanolic extract of Semecarpus anacardium fruit at 100 mg·***-1, 200 mg·kg-1·day-1 and 300 mg·kg-1·day-1 for 60 days. Fertility test was performed after 60 days of treatment. Sperm motility and density were observed in the cauda epididymis. Biochemical and histological analyses of the blood and reproductive organs were done. Recovery of fertility was followed to evaluate the reversibility of drug action. Results: S. anacardium fruit extract administration resulted in spermatogenic arrest in albino rats. The sperm motility and density was reduced significantly. The RBC and WBC counts, haemoglobin, haematocrit, blood sugar and urea were found to be within the normal range in the whole blood. The protein, cholesterol and glycogen in the testes and the fructose in the seminal vesicle were significantly decreased after the treatment. The fruit extract feeding caused marked reduction in the number of primary spermatocytes, secondary spermatocytes and spermatids. The number of mature Leydig cells was also decreased and degenerating cells increased proportionately. Conclusion: 5. anacardium fruit extract causes spermatogenic arrest in albino rats.

A Hybrid Deep Learning Model for COVID-19 Prediction and Current Status of Clinical Trials Worldwide

Infections or virus-based diseases are a significant threat to human societies and could affect the whole world within a very short *** Virus Disease-2019(COVID-19),also known as novel coronavirus or SARSCoV-2(Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2),is a respiratory based touch contiguous *** catastrophic situation resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic posed a serious threat to societies *** whole world is making tremendous efforts to combat this life-threatening *** taking remedial action and planning preventive measures on time,there is an urgent need for efficient prediction models to confront the COVID-19 outbreak.A deep learning-based ARIMA-LSTM hybrid model is proposed in this article for predicting the COVID-19 outbreak by utilizing real-time information from the WHO’s daily bulletin report as well as provides information regarding clinical trials across the *** evaluate the suitability and performance of our proposed model compared to other well-established prediction models,an experimental study has been *** estimate the prediction results,the three performance measures,i.e.,Root Mean Square Error(RMSE),Coefficient of determination(R2 Score),and Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE)have been *** prediction results of fifty countries substantiated the fact that the proposed ARIMA-LSTM hybrid model performs very well as compared to other *** proposed model archives the lowest RMSE,lowest MAPE,and highest R2 Score throughout the testing,under varied selection criteria(country-wise).This article aims to contribute a deep learning-based solution for the wellbeing of livings and to provide the current status of clinical trials across the globe.

Management of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction

BACKGROUND: Splenic artery aneurysms although rare are clinically significant in view of their propensity for spontaneous rupture and life-threatening bleeding. While portal hypertension is an important etiological factor, the majority of reported cases are secondary to cirrhosis of the liver. We report three cases of splenic artery aneurysms associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction and discuss their management. METHODS: The records of three patients of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction managed from 2003 to 2010 were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical presentation, surgical treatment and outcome were analyzed. RESULTS: The aneurysm was >3 cm in all patients. The clinical symptoms were secondary to extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (hematemesis in two, portal biliopathy in two) while the aneurysm was asymptomatic. Doppler ultrasound demonstrated aneurysms in all patients. A proximal splenorenal shunt was performed in two patients with excision of the aneurysm in one patient and ligation of the aneurysm in another one. The third patient had the splenic vein replaced by collaterals and hence underwent splenectomy with aneurysmectomy. All patients had an uneventful post-operative course. CONCLUSIONS: Splenic artery aneurysms are associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Although technically difficult, it can be safely performed in an experienced center with minimal morbidity and good outcome.

Habitat Range of two Alpine Medicinal Plants in a Trans-Himalayan Dry Valley,Central Nepal

Understanding of the habitat range of threatened Himalayan medicinal plants which are declining in their abundance due to high anthropogenic disturbances is essential for developing conservation strategies and agrotechnologies for cultivation. In this communication, we have discussed the habitat range of two alpine medicinal plants, Aconitum naviculare （Bruehl） Stapf and Neopicrorhiza scrophulariiflora （Pennel） Hong in a trans-Himalayan dry valley of central Nepal, Manang district. They are the most prioritized medicinal plants of the study area in terms of ethnomedicinal uses. A. naviculare occurs on warm and dry south facing slopes between 4090-4650 m asl along with sclerophyllous and thorny alpine scrubs, while N. scrophulariiflora is exclusively found on cool and moist north facing slope between 4000 and 4400 m asl where adequate water is available from snow melt to create a suitable habitat for this wetland dependent species. The soil in rooting zone of the two plants differs significantly in organic carbon （OC）, organic matter （OM）, total nitrogen （N） and carbon to nitrogen （C/N） ratio. Due to cool and moist condition of N. scrophulariiflora habitat, accumulation of soil OC is higher, but soil N content is lower probably due to slow release from litter, higher leaching loss and greater retention in perennial live biomass of the plant. The C/N ratio of soil is more suitable in A. navuculare habitat than that of N scrophulariiflora for N supply. Warm and sunny site with N rich soil can be suitable for cultivation ofA. naviculare, while moist and cool site with organic soil for N. scrophulariiflora. The populations of both the plants are fragmented and small. Due to collection by human and trampling damage by livestock, the population of A. naviculare was found absent in open areas in five of the six sampling sites and it was confined only within the bushes of alpine scrubs. Drugs for Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH): Quest for the Holy Grail

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global epidemic that is likely to become the most common cause of chronic liver disease in the next decade, worldwide. Though numerous drugs have been evaluated in clinical trials, most of them have returned inconclusive results and shown poorly-tolerated adverse effects. None of the drugs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating biopsy-proven non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Vitamin E and pioglitazone have been extensively used in treatment of biopsy-proven nondiabetic NASH patients. Although some amelioration of inflammation has been seen, these drugs did not improve the fibrosis component of NASH. Therefore, dietary modification and weight reduction have remained the cornerstone of treatment of NASH;moreover, they have shown to improve histological activity as well as fibrosis. The search for an ideal drug or ‘Holy Grail’ within this landscape of possible agents continues, as weight reduction is achieved only in less than 10% of patients. In this current review, we summarize the drugs for NASH which are under investigation, and we provide a critical analysis of their up-to-date results and outcomes.
