The pancreas of Eutropis carinata was studied immunocytochemically for the presence and topographic distribution of glucagon and insulin cells during annual reproductive cycles. The study revealed paracrine arrangement of the two types of ceils. The immunolocalized pancreatic cells revealed significant differences in mean numbers during different periods of reproduction. The numbers of glucagon-immunoreactive （GIr） and insulin-immunoreactive （IIr） cells were highest during the recrudesceut period which corresponded with low serum glucose level. Between the two immunoreactive cells, the GIr cells were predominant. Morphological differences between the two cells were observed by electron microscopy after staining with uranyl acetate and lead citrate. Serum glucose showed that cyclic change was highest during the reproductive period.

The distribution and verticals variation of geochemical components in the Kasnau-Matasukh lignites of Nagaur Basin, rajasthan, were investigated using microscopy, proximate and ultimate analyses, rock–Eval Pyrolysis, X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared analyses, and major/minor/trace element determination. The relationship of elements with ash content and with macerals have also been discussed. These lignites are stratified, black, dominantly composed of huminite group macerals with subordinated amounts of liptinite and inertinite groups. They are classified as type-III kerogen and are mainly gas prone in nature. The concentration (in vol%) of mineral matter is seen to increase towards upper part of seam and so is the concentration (in wt%) of the volatile matter, elemental carbon and sulphur. The common minerals present in these lignitesare mixed clay layer, chlorite, and quartz as identified by X-ray diffraction study. Compared with world average in brown coal, the bulk concentration of Cu is anomalously high in most of the samples while Cd is 2–3 times high and Zn is high in one band. Based on interrelationship, different pyrite forms are noticed to have different preferential enrichment of various elements. The concentration of disseminated pyrite is more than the other pyrite forms and is followed by discrete pyrite grains and massive pyrite.

In the present investigation an attempt has been made to demineralize the Gondwana coal of Gopinathpur top and bottom seams of Mugma mine, raniganj coalfield, Dhanbad with the help of Pseudomonas mendocina strain B6-1. The change in the amount of ash yield and decrease in the concentration of selected minor elements like Na, K, Mn and Ca and environmentally sensitive selected trace elements such as Cd, Pb, Se, Ni, Mn, and Zn have been studied as a function of time of bacterial treatment as well as with variation in the bacterial biomass. After 28 days of bacterial treatment there was variable amount of decrease observed in ash yield as well as in the concentration of minor and trace elements. The removal of the elements was further enhanced with the increase in the bacterial biomass from 10 to 25 mg/mL. Due to over exploitation of superior grade coals in the country, the remaining coal resources, available for current use, are inferior in grade and contain high level of impurities and there is ample scope of bio-beneficiation of these coals using bacterial biomass.

The lignite samples collected from Giral lignite field of Barmer basin have been subjected to petrological investigation. The data generated has been discussed to understand the evolution of the paleomires of these lignites. The present study reveals that these low rank C coals are chiefly composed of huminite group macerals, mainly telohuminite and detrohuminite, while liptinite and inertinite group macerals occur in subordinate amounts. Not much variation in the maceral composition from Seam-I to Seam-VIII has been observed. Barmer lignites are characterized by a very high GI (>10) and moderate TPI indicating topogenous mire in the basin which was permanently flooded. The GI and TPI values and the petrography-based facies critical models indicate that these lignites originated mostly under wet forest swamp to clastic marsh having telmatic to limno-telmatic conditions with a moderate rate of subsidence and a very slow fall in ground water table. Further, the GWI and VI values are suggestive of mesotrophic to rheotrophic hydrological conditions having the dominance of herbaceous to marginal aquatic vegetation. There were spells of periodic drowning of peat especially during the formation of Seam-VII. Moderately high concentration of calcium in these lignites along with the presence of framboidal pyrite indicate enhanced sulphate-reducing bacterial activity present in carbonate and sulphate-rich waters in the basin during peat formation.

Efficacy Study of Metronomic Chemotherapy in Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer and Correlation with VEGF, TSP Levels

Background: Treatment refractory metastatic breast cancer patients are at best treated palliatively. We evaluated the effects of metronomic chemotherapy on survival outcomes in this population. Methods: Twenty eight subjects with treatment refractory (n = 21) and treatment naive (n = 7) MBC were included in an open label single arm efficacy study of metronomic chemotherapy. Patients were given a chemotherapy regimen of Tab. Cyclophosphamide 50 mg once daily and Tab. Methotrexate 2.5 mg twice in a week over a minimum period of 3 months or until the progression of their disease whichever was earlier. Monitoring of serum VEGF and Thrombospondin levels were done to correlate the response rates. Data were analysed using chi square test for proportions and Kaplan Meir Survival analysis. results: The mean age of the study population was 51.5 ± 14.2 years. The mean duration of metronomic chemotherapy was 123.89 ± 97.6 days. Overall 71.4% had progressive disease and 28.6% had stable disease. 55.6% with treatment naive metastatic breast cancer had stable disease compared to 15.8% of treatment refractory metastatic breast cancer. There was also a significant improvement in progression free survival in those with tumor load less than 5 cms compared to >5 cms and in grade 2 compared to grade 3 disease. There was no correlation of serum VEGF levels before and after chemotherapy. There is no significant decrease in TSP levels. Conclusion: The results suggest stable response in one third of study patients. Performance status and tumor load are important predictors in this category of population. There is no significant correlation of serum VEGF and TSP levels before and after chemotherapy. Also, there was no significant correlation of biomarker levels in responding and non-responding patients.

Clinical Profile and results in Cancers Treated with Nivolumab: A Single Centre Study

Introduction: Immunotherapy is also called as biologic therapy or bio-therapy. Immunotherapy is quickly becoming an important component in the multipronged approaches being developed to treat certain forms of cancer. The goal of immunotherapy is to strengthen the body’s own natu-ral ability to combat cancer by enhancing the effectiveness of the immune system. This study tries to compile response rates and side effect profile of Nivolumab. Methods: Patients with performance status of 3 or less than 3, who failed on 2 or more lines of therapy except melanoma and have received minimum 3 cycles of Nivolumab were taken in to this study. Study subjects followed for minimum of 3 cycles for assessment. Each patient received 240 mg of Nivolumab once in 15 days for 3 - 6 cycles. results: The median age of 20 patients was 53 years (26 - 79 yrs). 18 patients were male and 2 patients were female. Progressive disease (PD) was observed in 12 patients with immunotherapy treatment and partial response (Pr) was observed in 3 patients, and stable disease (SD) in 5 patients. Conclusion: This is one of the Indian study mainly reporting experiences with Nivolumab. Large sample size is required to conclude about the efficacy of the study. Nivolumab is more tolerated in Indian patients compared to other reported studies.

According to GLOBOCAN 2018: breast cancer incidence is increased to 162,468 in 2018 compared to 144,937 in 2012. Biosimilar drugs allow expanding access to the therapies in the form of cost savings and leading to better overall health outcomes. Our study evaluates the efficacy and safety of Trastuzumab biosimilars and assesses overall survival in the study population. Materials & Methods: This prospective study was conducted in Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd., Bengaluru, India, and all female patients diagnosed with Her2 positive, metastatic (mBC) and Locally advanced breast cancer (LABC), between March 2013 and November 2014, with at least 4 years of post-treatment follow up. Results: A total of 65 patients diagnosed with Her2 positive breast cancer and satisfied the selection criteria were included for the study. Partial Response (PR) was observed in 42 (64.6%) patients, Stable Disease (SD) in 11 (16.9%) patients and Progressive Disease (PD) in 12 (18.5%) patients. The overall response rates were 46.1% PR, 30% SD, 23.8% PD in metastatic population and 76% PR, 7.2% SD, 15% PD observed in locally advanced disease.
