Nanopar.icles of Fe3O4 and Fe ar. chemically synthesized by r.duction of Fe(acac)3 using ascor.ic acid in contr.lled condition. It was obser.ed that addition of water.dur.ng the chemical synthesis pr.cess yields Fe3O4 nanopar.icles, wher.as if the r.action is car.ied out in absence of water.yields Fe nanopar.icles—which get oxidized upon exposur. to air.atmospher.. Fe3O4 (15 ± 5 nm) and Fe/ir.n oxide nanopar.icles (7 ± 1 nm) wer. successfully synthesized in the compar.tive study r.por.ed her.with. Mechanism for.for.ation/synthesis of Fe3O4 and Fe/ir.n oxide nanopar.icles is pr.posed her.with in which added water.acts as an oxygen supplier. Physico-chemical char.cter.zation done by SEM, TEM, EDAX, and XPS suppor.s the pr.posed mechanism.

It is inter.sting and impor.ant to know that complete degr.dation of the dye occur. within 2 hour. and does not adver.ely affect the seed ger.ination pr.cess. It is concluded that waste water.pur.fication by photocatalysis and seed ger.ination (agr.cultur.) can be car.ied out simultaneously, opening a way for.advanced agr.cultur..
